If you swap over the SD card from your old phone to your new phone, all yours Apps will be there if you're using a ROM with automatic Apps2SD (such as Cyan's). They should come up in the market too if I'm not mistaken.

I'm getting a new g1 to replace my beater g1, I plan on using the same cyanogen rom and sd for the new phone. Will the apps show up on the phone like before or should I delete them all off the card and redownload them again?

If you use Cyan's recovery on both G1's, you can do that by making a Nandroid back up, taking it off the first G1's SD card and put it on the other one. But make sure EVERYTHING is the same beforehand, such as same apps installed, Apps2SD, etc. Settings, configurations, layouts, ROM type will be restored with the transfer.
Any questions, let me know :]
thanx. but, when u say "make sure everything is the same beforehand", what does that mean? i'm thinking about buying a white g1, get a nandroid backup copy of my current black g1, and restore on the new white g1. does that work? i guess what i wanna know is whether a nandroid backup will be extracted and restored on another g1 and make it a clone of the original one.
if it's possible, do i need to format the new sd with ext2 beforehand?
You don't need to format your ext2 because nandroid doesn't back that up. I think that luke means that you should have the gmail accounts the same and other stock data that you have to input.
i'm using jf 1.51 with cyanogenmod, which is supposed to format the new sd with ext2
my question is: can i just put a copy of my nandroid backup on the new sd, put it in the new phone and restore it so the new phone will be a clone of the current one? (of course, using the same gmail account)

Yes but the new phone must have root And the same radio, spl, etc..
Just set the new G1 up the same. The same way and you should have no problems.

Gmail accounts don't necessarily have to be the same (although I could be wrong, I think nandroid automatically includes the Gmail with all the sync info), but the most important is to just have all your apps the same. Reason being, when you pull the nandroid backup onto the new phone and install, it'll be looking for apps that aren't there anymore and cause massive anarchy.
Make sure all your core root features are the same as well, same radio, same SPL, same recovery, etc. That's key too and may brick a phone if you don't have that set up right.
Otherwise, it should work splendidly :]
i see. so basically, i have to root the new phone first.right?
1. root the new phone.
2. install the same radio, SPL, and ROM you have on the old phone on the new one.
3. install cyanogen's recovery image on the new phone.
4. nandroid backup your old phone.
5. put your old sd card in your new phone.
6. nandroid restore your new phone.
after that, its just a matter of setting up apps2sd and transferring the contents of your old SD card to your new one. however, keep in mind that only the phone with your sim card in it will work. afaik, you cant dupe sim cards and you cant register two to the same phone line.

Yup, you'll have to root both phones and makes sure they're set up the same with the same radio and SPL. (ROM isn't necessary, as that will be transferred with the Nandroid backup).
You can check Radio/SPL by holding the camera button when starting up your phone. You can also do this by looking in Settings>About Phone and scrolling to the bottom.
Let me know how it goes!

SD Card F******D Help

Hello one and all, please dont flame me for this post but my SD Card is bolloxed and i need to get all my apps onto a new one.
I have new a 8 GIG Class 6 to transfer to i have already partitioned with Ubuntu but i dont know how to copy my apps off the old card to the new
one and for those loaded apps on my phone to stay working.
I have used the search on this forum but there is so many different ones i have read i am now totally confused.
I did root my phone myself and put on a Cyanogen rom so i am fairly ok with
certain stuff but this has me proper confused is there just one one click method, i read something about "SwitchRom"
i dont want to lose all my apps but this is getting a bit desperate now
Thanks
Your apps are never lost even if you use a new sdcard and use Ubuntu to copy and paste the apps to the new card, you still have to reinstall alll the protected apps. So depending on how many apps you have installed , I would do a wipe and reinstall them all.
Or do a nandroid backup, don't forget you might have to run fix_permissions if you get any errors.

does anyone know how to plz i have the same problem wit the sd card reader i wipped my phone and its not allowing me to flash anything from the zip card and its ot the card its the reader so does anyone know how to fix??
First, both of you need to rule out SD card falilure/user error. Does your card work in your computer? Can you format it to FAT32? If you can and your phones can't see it or any other cards.... you might as well get a new phone. As far as LatinIME FCs, go download any VK from the market or install HTC IME (which is way nicer anyway), go into settings-locale&text and uncheck stock VK, check whatever new VK of your choice is. That will stop FCs

but is their no way that i can install a rom or anything thru adb or sumthing cuz like my phone doesnt have any rom on it right now so yeaa i havent used my g1 in like maybe 2 weeks=( so like i just wana load a rom and be able 2 use my phone i really dont care for da sdcard
If your SD card is broken, get a new one.
How can you logically expect to use the phone without one? I'm aware you CAN, but I mean there are so few ROM's out there that don't use A2SD, let alone you can't make nandroid backups, and some apps can't store data. Maybe I missed something, but is there a reason you can't just use a different SD card? You can buy an 8gb class 6 MicroSD for under $20. If you can afford the $200-500 phone....

It is possible if you unpack the update.zip and manually copy everything over to the right place, then flash the boot.img with fastboot.
Surely it's simpler to just buy a cheap card though? Without a2sd your choice of what to flash is going to be severely limited.
the sd slot does not work at all. i have 2 sd cards a 1gig and a 4 gig(class6), the problem is the rom is acting up and i cant correct the phone without reverting back to stock, but in order to do that i need the sd card slot to be working. thats why i want to know if you can push the file to the phones ram and try booting it from there or even do it from the computer. and i also wanted to see if bringing the phone back to stock would probably fix the sd slot. so if someone has an idea im open to trying it out

Why in the world does my phone do this?

Im certainly not new by any means to changing roms, or the whole flashing process, but lately my phone has been doing something... odd.
When switching from one rom to another (in this case zen's MT3G slide rom to freshes newest) i did the normal backup nandroid, wipe data/cache/dalvik, then flash the new rom. Everything goes smooth, the rom works, but my app drawer is populated with all the apps from the previous roms. And the funky part is, some of them work?? A lot of them do not, and will just FC when trying to be opened.
I dont use app2sd or even have the ext setup for that, however i do keep a folder on my SD card called apks where i store certain apps.
Any ideas??
part of the changes google has put in place recently, probably. They are linking your market-installed apps to your google account so when you go through setup on a rom it reinstalls your previously installed apps.

See, i thought this as well, but these are apps that were not installed through the market (i mean, some are, but definitely not all). And also, like i said, a lot of them do not even work. Its like theres some residual app list thats not getting cleared when going from Rom to rom. This happened a few months ago too, but i havnt changed rom in so long i didnt think about it till i tried to the new fresh one.
Then yes, that is weird and I have no idea.
this happens to me. its your ext. when switching to a rom that has a2sd enabled it automatically installs the apps that were on ext. and yeah sometimes a few of them FC but just reinstall them and they will be fine
See if it happens after wiping ext then flashing.
Sent from my Hero CDMA using XDA App
Wipe ext then see if they are there.

i did read that, however, he may ended up with an ext partition following instructions from somewhere else. It's the most logical explanation for his description.

[Q] Need Serious help !!!

hello everyone
i got the incredible S 3 weeks ago and all was gr8
a day ago something happened while it was connected to my comp and my
phone SD card was formatted, now the SD has no files and no folders - its completly blank - and back on my phone maps and stuff tells me "files are missing" blah blah you got the point. seems like neccery files came ON SD card now its now finding it - and its not apps i installed - its things came with the phone. also HTC sync install files are gone and basically every thing that was originally on the SD card as i got it from HTC factory is gone.
now i know HTC sync is downloadble but you get the point of me wanting everything back as it was right of the box.
so i did factory reset but still files are missing cuz it cleand my phone bun didn put the originally SD stuff back, its still empty.
so
1.how do i get all the FACTORY DEFAULT files as i got them before they were deleted ?
2. what does it really do if you format your SD Card? aside to delete pics and video i made? does it really a problem or im just going crazy for nothing?
3. how do i get my phone to be as just the way i took it out of the box, inside and out, phone and SD card...all..?
tnx!!!
Are you looking for some specific things on sd card?
For maps, go to locations and download the map of your country.
For htc sync, download on your pc and copy to sd card.
I dnt think any other files would be missing
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
thats the problem - i donk know what have been gone...
for example the LOCATIONS App is asking me to download files that are missing on the SD card, but it wont work...dk why
so thats why im asking :
1.how do i get all the FACTORY DEFAULT files as i got them before they were deleted ?
2. what does it really do if you format your SD Card? aside to delete pics and video i made? does it really a problem or im just going crazy for nothing?

1. and 3. Install an RUU file. These are Rom Update Utilities files. They will flash your phone to untouched stock files. It depend on where you are from, but get one from there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066949 (If you are in Europe, the first one should work fine)
2. To me, if you format your sd card, you only lose your media files (pics, videos, mp3s) and also the data files from downloaded application that have been installed on it (the Apps to SD thingie introduced in Froyo). But your phone should still be working nonetheless. Though maybe Google Maps and stuff were installed on the SD out of the box by HTC.
Anyway the RUU should restore your phone to the state you need.
Good luck with that.

Maybe you did. But it's not the end of the world, even if some useless "HTC Locations" don't come back yet, you will find that, eventually
Try with an RUU as I said, and then you will see if more stuff is missing. This is the closest to the "Out Of Box experience" there is, anyway.. or so I think.
dont know whats RUU or what sould i do from now with the link
sorry, need help - im new to this
