Maybe you can dump that ROM, and expect some supprise.

I got one on launch day. In short, by far the best WM phone ive ever owned... very nicely built, stable, lots of memory, bonus GPS (seems as good a SIRF3 chipset to me...), good reception. TMob obviously give the best tarifs for data, and their customer services are lovely and helpful.
Not sure if the TomTom demo came on the CD or on the rom - i suspect the CD, so im guessing no to the tomtom question
Go for it - you wont be disapointed

You don't get the full TomTom with the HTC version anyway - it's just a "tryout" I believe.
I love my Vario 3 - best WM phone I've owned. Enough memory to not have to worry about closing things down, (mostly) quick. Lovely bit of kit.

I have the T-Mobile Vario III and I flashed HTC rom. T Mobile rom doesn't have TomTom 6. Flashing back to HTC rom will not help since it's (TomTom 6) not a part of the official rom.
Search and Read the wiki for more details. Also Pof has given a very good step by step method to HardSPL your device. See his post and if possible read all before you flash new rom.
Good Luck

Vijeta
I believe the Tomtom App is full it is just the map that you will need to purchase as they only give you a demo of a map that you have to download when registering.
thanks
Thanks for the speedy reply guys. Will have the Vario III in the morning.
Will make sure i get the insurance just the case the cooking goes wrong.

What use is a wizard....

hi.
I have recently bought a kaiser (tmobile vario III). I have the original vario, fully working, but the screen is cracked in many places. i have used it like that for months without problems.
Should I throw it away, or do people buy such models for spare parts?

Well,if still under warranty, get replaced or repaired by the Manufacturer or vendor from whom you bought this phone.
Otherwise you can get a new screen from ebay, buy it,lol
If you read the sticky, folks do still want damaged ones...they can always Frankenstein a new one. For instance (too late now, as a new one is arriving)...last week, I would have killed for a spare, so I could fix my damaged usb port.
There is a sticky about saving our dying phones, you may want to check it out.
donate to one of the developers.. er.. I think vijay555 is looking for one.
I am always looking for broken PDA phones too. It's fun to fix them (yes, I am a nerd).

Debranding TMO Compact IV

Does anyone already thought about debranding his compact iv? I'm talking about debranding the case/shell. Not the software.
I had the compact III earlier and was able to get rid of the "MDA" and "T-Mobile" printing with a sugarcube. But using this method would surely mess up the shiny surface.
So, any ideas anyone?
yeah,
first flashing hardspl, then loading one of the many custom roms (or even the original htc one).
i wanted to do that tonight with my mda 4, but I don't know if or how I can flash back the original spl for warrenty reasons. (the original rom would be no problem). I'm waiting for an answer in an other thread, if there is something like a branded spl.
maybe some can help me out here ?
What is the SPL ver on the phone?
Hi,
you people aren't really reading before you post, hm?
The OP asked how to remove the branding on the casing, _not the (butt-ugly) software_
Please READ before you post.
AhNe: I'm sorry, I don't have a clue, I doubt it's possible, the silver coating for the logos is under the glass layer, so there's probably nothing you can do without taking apart the whole phone
sorry but didn't thought some one could mean the case, how would this be possible. my suggestion, if you like the case design, sell your mda on ebay and import an unbranded P3702 Victor from taiwan. they should be on regular sale there soon.
thx cptsunshine
Yeah, well I guess I gotta sell it and get a original HTC branded then.. or just live with the fugly MDA, T-Mobile stuff.
Thanks for the reply though!

tytn II vodafone 1615 uk on ebay uk

Hi guys, after reading so much on here about my new phone, I am selling it on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=330253816281&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=014
I looked at this phone as a replacement to my last phone, but I miss my last phone so intend to return to one. The Artemis or mda compact 3. I think it’s because I got so used to using a touch screen keyboard. And the tytn keyboard feels out of place for me.
If anyone has any advise to boost my listing I would be very thankful.

Confused - TyTN version

After months I decided again to go with a Windows Mobile based PDA as a primary phone. The N95 just did not do the job, so, I thought the TyTN II still might be the best choice for me. The old Hermes was the last PDA I owned.
I bought mine directly from NewEgg here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875502007
Surprisingly, I already had seen on the pictures that the item does not have a front camera for video phones. Well, this service is not yet supported in the US, so, it just was not important to me.
Now, after I received the item today, another strange thing:
The keyboard does not look like on the real TyTN II but it matches the keyboard of the AT&T Tilt.
The box and all accessoirs match the HTC version rather than the AT&T Tilt version. IMEI and Serial# of the device match the label on the box. It further says on the box HTC TyTN II P4551. ROM version is WM 6.1.
So, my question:
What version do I really have? What do I have to care about in case I want to flash it? Would I have to go with AT&T flashing guides rather than with guides for the Kaiser?
Just trying to sort out the differences - sorry in case this has been asked already before.

Enter your bootloader and read the top line "KAISXXX" (where XXX is 100,110,120 or 130), then look under "Specs of some Kaiser variants" on the HTC Kaiser wiki page.

Dave
Well,
I guess this is the AT&T variant then. It says clearly KAIS100 and the keyboard is definitely from an AT&T Tilt (blue FN key and silver number block).
I just wonder why HTC would change the front plate (AT&T Logo) back to HTC, then flashes it wit the generic HTC software and packs everything nicely in a HTC box?
see if you can register it at the htc e-club because the At&t branded device's can't.

Yeah,
I was thinking of that but I am planing to return / exchange for the MWg Zinc II. The lack of video drivers for the TyTN II is quite annoying already by just surfing the web! I am not sure if a downgrade to WM 6.0 would fix that?
However,
attached 2 pictures of my TyTN II Hybrid. Sorry for the bad quality but it is still clear enough. Strangely, even the box shows this device with the AT&T Keypad! It almost looks to me as if HTC had an over-production of AT&T Tilts and now they throw the left-overs on the market as P4551 (which really seems to be the AT&T with HTC Logo and box).

I just now checked and found that you can register for At&t tilt also in HTC club.
The tytyn has a slower processor and uses an inferior gps chipset.
It does have a little more memory but to date I have not had a prob with my 256/64 config. For some reason the data on my zinc is innacurate (pdadb). It says the zinc has a 2.5 mm audio jack (proprietary it is).
Video is easy with core player 1.2.5 b 4506.
