Hi
I recently got my Topaz and tried to use setup my proxy (forced onto me by my ISP) to use wifi, but I seem to be unable to access any website.... I am quite confident that the settings are fine and am able to ping to my proxy server and can ping any other website...
But if I try to reach any website (using either Opera or IE) I get a 'cannot connect to remote server error or dns error' after some time. I've been able to successfully use wifi at the local Starbucks(no proxy needed). I also know that my wifi connection is fine as I have several laptops and an iphone using it w/o any issues...
Has anyone else had proxy issues with winmobile? Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can try?
I had problems with wifi not opening web pages and although unrelated to proxy, the solution was the wifi power saving settings. I changed it from 'best battery' to 'best performance' and it solved it instantly:
settings/all settings/connections/wi-fi/advanced/power mode
good luck
yes, that should solve the problem. Go to maximum performance ...
Thanks for the suggestions, but I already have wifi set to best performace, but to no avail

Hello all.
I just got my Kaiser last week with the Official HTC ROM and I am have noticed that it's struggling to retain proxy settings for my work network.
when setting my work network connection to private network and then then My Isp to connect to the internet I set proxy settings to point to our proxy server, but once I exit from the connections settings it changes the settings to only be Socks settings, it will not retain the http settings and thus I cannot connnect to the external web, only if I leave the connections open will it retain those settings it seems.
I also find that it seems to be a bit flaky in that combined scenario, it doesnt switch properly between work network and ISP as it is supposed to. Is anyone else seeing this behaviour, is there any reg tweaks that can solve this problem?
A couple of my colleagues have the HTC Touch and they seem to have similar problems.
Cheers
LBN
Am I the only one to experience this issue, is the issue covered somewhere else anyone?
No, you're not the only one to experience this. That just happened to me also. My phone was working fine for the last week and a half and then all of the sudden I couldn't get weather panel to update over GPRS and when I checked my connection settings the HTTP proxy had disappeared. I put it back in and it hasn't disappeared again as of yet though.
Well, I figured out what's causing the problem, but not sure how to fix it. Activesync seems to be disabling the HTTP proxy whenever you're connected and try to connect to the net.
I tried to contact HTC Technical support too to get some more information on this, but surprise surprise they haven't gotten back to me except with a canned reply of being in contact soon. I just to own an ETEN M600 and Eten was horrific in customer support, guess HTC is not far off that
I still haven't figured out why it's doing this, hopefully HTC will shed some light on the problem though. I'm not sure how you have yours set up, but the way I have mine set up is that I have 2 connections set up, 1 with the proxy and one without and switch between the 2 when I need one or the other, that way I don't have to re-enter the proxy each time. There seems to be another problem connected to this that I'm not sure if you've noticed or not and that is if it removes the proxy like it's been doing it also disables any other connections you have set up, meaning that if I accidentally leave it on the proxy connection and WM removes the proxy and then I switch back to the other connection without the proxy it won't work until I reset the phone.
So any response from HTC yet LBN?
losing proxy settings
try to control the settings on the internet explorer of your desktop, on my phone activesync sincronize the proxy settings of IE to the mobile network settings.
Bye
Manux
The HTC crowd are a <censored swearwords>, not one word despite contacting them twice, very annoying....
I'm guessing that what ManuX said is probably what it's doing, although I haven't tried it yet to see for sure. The thing is to try and figure out how to stop it from doing that. I never use IE on my computer, but there are apps that I have that do so adding the proxy to IE is pretty much out of the question since all my compter apps would stop working then.
The same is happening with me. I add the proxy settings and re-enter the "Connection" panel, and poof! No more proxy. The SOCKS is kept but the HTTP is gone. Even when I remove the SOCKS, it comes back!
I've got the same problem with my Kaiser...Moreover when directpush is active, PDA make a soft reset and a lot of people have this problem. Have you solutions?
Excuse me for the bad English but I'm french.
Sitting in the same boot, but no idea either on how to solve this problem
anyone have any updates on this?
Same problem!!!!!
I have the same issue also. Is there a third party application that could be used?
I've seen similar, but slightly different behavior. Everytime I connect to activesync (via bluetooth or usb) the 'proxy' setting was being set. This caused an issue for my 3G connections and I had to clear the incorrect proxy setting after each activesync connect.
I tracked this down to the 'proxy' setting in internet explorer 7. If a proxy is set in ie7 (tools->internet options->connections->LAN Settings) the value is pushed to the device. As soon as I cleared the setting in ie7, the problem stopped occuring.
ive just updated to windows 6.1 and still the same problem
[SOLUTION]
The problem of losing the proxy settings after connecting to ActiveSync can be resolved as follow:
Connect your PPC to ActiveSync and let it snychronize.
After synching open the connection settings on your device and re-enter all your proxy settings.
If ActiveSync wants to synchronize after that again, just let it continue.
After the last sync you can disconnect your PPC from the cable
You should now be able to connect to ActiveSync without setting loss
I found the solution some time ago, but forgot to post it.
Anyway it works fine for me and should for all of you, too.
Cheers!
I dont lose proxy setting when connecting to active sync. I lose them when open interent exploror.
Hi all, I have a weird problem.
I have a tilt and am using the HTC rom, I connect to wifi in my apartment and 3G or HSDPA when I leave the apartment.
When I'm connected through wifi, my Slingplayer works flawlessly, finds my slingbox, and plays the video. When I try to connect outside using 3G/HSDPA, I get "Cannot connect with current connection settings"
I know the Slingbox is working correctly because I can connect to it through a desktop PC without a problem, and I know that the 3G works fine on my tilt because I have no problem loading websites, using mundi, etc.
Any ideas? I've seen a couple other posts on other forums with the same problem but there were no responses on them.
Thanks!
Can you connect to anything else when on 3G?
Try your proxy settings
Did you change the default ports on the SlingBox config?
Are those ports (default or modified) open from the outside of your firewall/router?
If you have the ability to monitor inbound connections try monitoring while you connect through 3G and see if your device attempts on the correct port and that it is NATed to the correct IP and port.

I had exactly the same problem with my Belkin router. You need to set up a port on your router in order for it to work. I know on mine it involved setting up a virtual server.
I am using the TyTN II and I am having the same exact problems. I think AT&T killed access to slingbox somehow. I can surf the internet just fine, and then as soon as I start the slingplayer, my connection gets lost and my phone says "cannot sonnect with current connection settings." Any help would be appreciated, especially with the World Series coming up this week.

Possibly a silly point but can you definitely connect over the internet to it? Or just over your LAN?
There's a wizard that enables the port forwarding for you - (called Remote Viewing or something?) should be with the software for the slingbox.
Could be that your desktop is just going direct over the LAN?
Also, I had problems when I was just using the automatic settings to configure the box - in the end it works far better if you ignore the UPnP stuff, and use the manual setup process (or so I found). Again, the desktop software wizard steps you through this.
If you can connect over wifi at home, but not over wifi or 3g when away, then unless AT&T are blocking the ports, its more likely your router settings, as at home you are inside your LAN but elsewhere you have to go through your routers hardware firewall.
Just have a look at slingbox's help files.
SlingBox works fine on AT&T. Check your proxy settings on the phone. Try the "remove hidden proxy" cab. The home router also needs an outgoing port defined as well. Good Luck, I know it can work.
I will bet that it's your router/firewall blocking the incoming net traffic. Try connecting to it from a Friend's internet connection or a public computer at the library or something.
Had a similar problem with slingplayer mobile on my new HTC TouchPro- phone from Vodafone but I put in my T-mobile SIM as I wanted to keep the Web and walk.
Slingplayer worked fine from Vario3 with same sim but not from TouchPro. Eventually unticked the use proxy server in the connection settings and it started to work. Weird, as on the Vario the proxy box is ticked and it works.
Anyway, worth trying if anyone else is having problems.
One of two things, either you have not port fowarded your router to allow the Slingbox to be remotly viewed, go to portfoward.com for exact instructions for your specific router, or your hidden proxy is messing with it. More than likley its not port fowarded correctly. BTW...when your in your home network, i.e... using WiFi, it will work without the router being fwded because your slingbox is already inside your home network. When coming from the outside of your home network through 3g or whatever your router has to allow access to the slingbox.
I am trying to hook to a public WIFI at work. The only issue is it requires a specific proxy.
So here is what I do and see happening:
Before attaching to network, I go into Connections and set up the proxy server for 'My Work Network'.
Then I go in and set up the Wireless Settings, and for Connects to I select Work. It connects to the wireless, but when I go into IE it will not connect to anything.
So with the connection up, I go back Settings/Connections, and My Work Network has nothing in it for a proxy for HTTP. I add it and save it. But I still do not connect to anything in IE.
Oh, and one other thing: I don't see how to tell if I am getting DNS server settigns. I can see what my IP and Default router are, but not DNS. I doubt this is my problem, but would be nice to see if I have a DNS server.
Any ideas?
Well, it seems to have resolved. Not sure why.
I do still interest in knowing how to determine the DNS settings.
I spoke too soon.
It has disappeared again. I am finding it inconsistent. Will soft resets affect this?
I still interest in feedback on this.
Another bit of information I just thought of, in case anyone has any ideas...
The time it worked, it had the pop-up acking which network to hook to, and I just ignored it, and it hooked to the public one, and it worked. The times it doesn't work, it hooks to the public network, but the pop-up doesn't come up.
Hoping for some ideas here...
This is a problem with WM 6.0. It's has been fixed a little bit in 6.1, but instead of the settings disappearing IE doesn't use the proxy settings.
My suggestion for now, GIVE up trying to use the proxy settings.

I guess this means I cannot use WIFI if a Proxy is required, which on anything other than strictly public, it ususally is.
This is a nasty bug in WM6. You could "temporarily" resolve this by doing the following reg hack. (After set the Proxy in control panel/Connections)
HKLM\Comm\Connmgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4C98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{18AD9FBD-F716-ACB6-FD8A-1965DB98B814}
Set key "Type" as 1 (DWORD)
After doing the above hack, enter the Connections then exist without doing anything. (To refresh the system, I suppose.)
After the refresh, you should be able to have PIE access outside network.
However, as soon as your ActiveSync works (via Wifi or USB) or you sometimes you enter the Connections again, the setting will be gone (not stick) and you need to reapply.
Hope this works
Thanks. I guess I'll suffer w/o it at work. That's too much of a pain in the butt. I synch a lot all day long.
I appreciate the input.
I supposed I'll be in for a hard reset/new rom one of these days on a MS update. Sounds like 6.1 is still not solid for this either.
For the proxy and ip settings, please try to use use my wifi profiles.
Your wlan network must connect to work.

Cool. I'll give them a try, and post back how it goes. Thanks!

I've installed the WiFi Profiles and have posted my status in your thread here at post 54.
For anyone following this, I have not been successful. The proxy disappers even with the profiles mentioned above.
He had not heard of the bug that makes them disapper, and has not had such complaints before with his software. Interesting.
He is on a 6.1 rom, and I'm on 6.0.
At any rate...still suffering no proxy.
FYI...here is another thread on this topic. It has helped some it seems, but not me.
I cannot access any webpages using my tilt I only get the message "cannot connect with current connection settings" no matter what webpage. What exactly am I to change the settings to? I'm using a Linksys Speedboost with WPA2 security. The Tilt is picking up my network so I hit connect. When I look under Settings/Connection/Wifi I see my network but its just says "connecting" all the time. Shouldn't it say "connected"? Then I checked the Wireless LAN I see me network and the signal strength is full. What gives? I've disabled all the ATT data connections with the NoData program. I've also cleared all history and done a soft reset. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I presume you have tried removing from and adding the network to your Kaiser. And I presume you have rebooted your Kaiser and router without any effect?
Were you able to connect to other networks in the past? Have you changed any settings recently that might have caused the problem (by accident)? Have you tried the different power modes?
The problem might not be your Kaiser; it wouldn't be the first time it had something to do with the router itself.
Have you upgraded your router with the latest firmware? Is MAC-filter security enabled?
Just thinking...
Yes I've tried removing and letting the phone find the network again to no avail. I'll try again when I get home. The phone and router have both been rebooted also to no avail. I've never been able to connect. Just got the phone late last week. Not familiar with changing power modes so I haven't tried that. The router does have the latest firmware. I've see a few other networks besides mine listed. Several of them said unavailable and I'm not sure what that means.
Well deleted all the networks to let the phone fin them again. Now it says connected but still will not bring up any web pages.
Sorry to say, but I have no direct solution to your problem. So let's troubleshoot your problem.
Download and run VxUtil. The tool can be found here:
ftp://ftp.cam.com/cambridge/win/vxUtil.zip
Open the .zip file and install "vxUtil.ppc3_arm.CAB" to your Kaiser. Leave the rest of the cabs.
Try to ping your router, other computers on the network and internet sites. See what the results are and if there is a difference between LAN and WAN adresses.
If you own a Tilt, you could also try to remove the hidden proxy. Fix it by installing the folowing .cab found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=71206&d=1203325282
If it wouldn't help, you can restore the proxy here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=71207&d=1203325282
Have you already tried another brower? Like Opera mini? Find it here:
http://www.operamini.com/
Or you could try the 'full' version found here:
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/
Let's hope you find the solution or at least a lead.
Dear friends,
I'm experiencing problems connecting to secured WiFi spots.
The device sees and connects to secured WiFi points correctly, the connection is good and stable. However it seems that nothing works through them - I cannot open any website. Honestly, I didn't try to connect to unsecured networks (I had no chance to find such).
Does anybody have the same problem? Is it solvable? Should I change something in WLAN configuration?
Please help.
Thanks.
Hello,
Try to change your wifi "Power mode" to "Best performance".

Alex
Did you looked up if your HD has a IP, and is listed in the list of dhcp clients (if you are using dhcp). For me it seems that the connection isn't set up correctly, but with the information given above its just a guess.
Same problem here. After two months of great operation and no changes, suddenly this.
This and similar problems are all over the threads.
Ditto, exactly the same probs, cannot acquire an ip address via dhcp from my home router.
Set one up manually and the HD connects to the network but cannot open up any sites, cannot connect to email and cannot download any rss feeds. It seems that any prog that needs to connect to the web cannot.
Same problems trying to connect using the mobile network. Tried a hard reset with no joy. Am going to try flashing a new rom.
