Hi people,
I've seen that many people had problems with TomTom voices which won't work after installing TomTom. There came a work around on this forum with a cap file and everything but because it's a work around i think i found the way to solve this problem.
1. Make a map called "VOICES" on the root of your SSD card.
2. Put there all of your TomTom voices and that should solve the problem.
This solved the problem for me and several other people in my neighbourhood which had the same problem.
ps.. If anyone needs the VOICES map with the the voice content i'll post it here.
Greets and i hope it will work for you all as it helped me,

That just enables the voices matey. You will still need the audio fix so that you can hear full instructions without the voice cutting off early.
The "Voices" folder has been the default configuration for Tomtom for as long as I can remember (I started with Tomtom 4 for PalmOS).
There was one version I recall that couldn't see the 'Voices' folder and instead required the voice files to be put in the 'Tomtom' folder instead, but other than that I have always had a 'Voices' folder.
The issue here seems to be something to do with the TD2 configuration causing voices to be cut off early, NOT the accessibility of the voice files. Try it for a while, and wait for the inevitable "After..." instruction.
the problem disapeared with 6.5 tom codon 2.03 rom and latest radio

i can't find it, and i've been searching for well over a week on the forum. a little help, please?

the voice files come in three parts the .vif the .chk and .bmp you need all 3 of the files of the corisponding voice to put into the voice folder thats in your root directory on you sd card
as said above make sure you have all 3 files, create a directory in the root of your microsd card called voices and then paste the 3 files into it. Open TomTom and go to the change voices under the settings and then scroll right until you find the voice you added.
I use version 6.010 because it allows me to have the changed data.chk file in the main tomtom dir which then has the speed camera warning voice of liz whitaker rather than the bell chime moo etc.

I need some more help here. I have spent hours fighting with this.
I installed TomTom from my MicroSD card and told it to install to device. Which it did. I have tried putting the voice files in the root of the SD card, tried putting them in a folder called voices in the root, I think I have tried them in every conceivable place on the device itself and can't get it to work. I accidentally got a Yoda voice to work but now can't figure out where I put the voice file to make it work. I had to flash my rom and now that voice is gone too. Is there a TomTom FAQ someplace on the net that people can go over.
Does this help?:

Hi there,
I also had the same problem, when I first bought my kaiser. There was a thread here in this forum telling how to rectify it. I vaguely remember going to the start>settings>connections>bluetooth. Then enabling the blue tooth explorer before installing the voices did the trick. But Now I did a hard reset and the problem is back again. So if u could find the solution please post it here...I couldnt find the orginal post.
Please check this thread..

Download it directly from kaiser by clicking on the tomtom plus services.
It you have a problem with TomTom seeing new voices you added, then you have to delete the reference file in the voice directory TomTom uses to organize the different voices. Once you delete this file (sorry I forget what it is called), then on the next launch, TomTom should see all of your new voices.
All I had to do was put the 3 files for each voice I wanted into the voice folder. This folder is located in the "my device" > "program files" > "navigator" > "voices". Then when you start the program, go to the voice preference settings. It will ask you if you want to use voices in your language or all languages. Choose "all languages". Scroll backwards through the voices and before long you should see the voices that you added to the folder.
I'm not taking credit for this, as it was other people on this board that showed me the right direction. I'm just making a post with a working version as I have yet to see one yet.
I have an AT&T tilt. This is with the ROM that comes with it. not cooked.
Make sure that you have deleted any other version of TomTom from your Tilt. Make sure you have deleted any old maps and map directories "\Storage Card\My Documents\"
1) Copy the cab over to your card
2) Run the cab
3) Copy your maps over to "\Storage Card\My Documents\". Mine were saved on my computer and called USA_and_Canada_v.675.1409.zip , make sure you are paying Tomtom because stealing is wrong.
4) Run TomTom
5) Go to Change Preferences|Show GPS status|Configure
6) Make sure the selected GPS receiver is "Built-in GPS receiver"
that's it. It should work from then on.

If you are using a non tilt rom, i'd try the cab install that comes with the htc. this one is for the tilt ROM
what version of tomtom is this?
The version number is 6
Can you download the maps?
I don't mind paying for the activation code, I just want to able to download and pay whatever it costs to avtivate the service from TomTom.
Buy Maps online?
Yes! Download and install Tomtom Home to your PC, then click on the link "buy the latest maps" It will show you all the maps available. Note: the price is in Euro and a single, cheapest map is 39.95 Euro. They have USA regional maps (New England_Mid Atlantics, Plains, etc) each cost 59.95 Euro. Hence, it is expensive to buy map online.
Kireol,
Thank you very much! I've been trying to move my maps out of the root of my 4G card for weeks!
I just wanted to say thanks for helping me finally get tomtom on to my tilt. I had been trying for three days and couldnt get it to work. Finally got it to work. Dont know what I was doing wrong but it work. Just followed the instructions and it went like a charm. Maybe I was tired. Thanks a bunch
If you want to add the standard TomTom Voices to your Kaiser after installing this all you need to do is Download & install TomTomHOME from TomTom's website. It will allow you to download and install all of the standard voices.
yup Kyphur is right. also, if you download some free ones, you can just copy them to your \Storage Card\Voices directory.
Here's a site with a bunch of free TomTom voices (I'm using John Kleese):
http://gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/links/index.php
Follow the free voices sticky.
Also:
The cab from page 1 on this thread works just perfectly on my Tilt flashed with the TyTN II ROM. As part of the installation, you can also download a free city map to play with. It automatically detects the Kaiser builtin GPS.
Very cool software.
I have the AT&T Tilt (Kaiser). When I select the GPS, it does not show the built in GPS. How do I get it to show the built in GPS. I have the TT MKii external one, but if I could use the built in one, it would be even better. Thanks!
I just set it up before seeing this thread and mine didnt say "internal GPS" but only one of the options was not for a bluetooth gps, so I choose that, and it asked me what com port to use, I said Com 4, and it worked fine. I am using AT&T Rom.
But, I would really like to clean up my Memory Card also, so now I gotta see if I can get all the tomtom files into a folder instead of the root of the memory card.
That worked! Thanks! Now I don't have to carry my external TT GPS around...
U R the man!!!!!!

kireol,
You are the man!!! I've been fooling with this #@%# thing off and on all day. I've been through countless threads and numerus cab files with all negative results.
After reading your post I tried that cab and it worked fantastic. I picked up 4 satellites sitting in the house and 7 when I went outdoors. I had already tried 6.01 with the US maps to no avail. I just installed your cab without uninstalling and everything worked great.
Thank you so much!!!!! Just wish I'd found your post this morning.
Wow! Very nice!
Thanks Man...
I'm going to get me some maps now...
no problem guys
sometimes I think this post should be stickied heh. even i forget about it
I am a newbie & am having problems with TomTom Nav 6.
I have installed it onto my memory card & it open correctly, but I cannot select any voices. I have a voices folder with all the voice files in it but when I try to select a voice on the tomtom it just says 'you have not selected a useable voice'.
Can anyone help please?
Hi Madharm,
Try here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304276
Good luck
Look for a file called collected.ini (can't remember if it's on the device or sd) and delete it. It should make tomtom rescan for voices.
I've also found the same issue of disappearing voices when the bluetooth folder is exposed. Try going into settings>connections>bluetooth>FTP and make sure 'enable bluetooth explorer is unchecked.
Then fire up tomtom and see if the voices come back.
Can have the same issue with the maps as well.
Voices
When I installed the TT taster I didn't have any voices either. Did a search on google for free TT voices and found lots. Then justed added the to the voices folder and it works like a charm.

This was the fix for me - thank you! I turned off the bluetooth explorer setting, and both my voices and my postcode file became available in TT
Thanks for everyones help on this.
i have now got the voices working fine.
I had to delete the collected.ini file & it all worked ok.
Thanks
Does anyone know what files like "cspeech_NLD.dat" are for?
There are with the 7.20 maps of Western & Central Europe.
Is it perhaps part of the TomTom text-to-speech? Does that work with Navigator when you use one of Loquendo computer voices from e.g. the GO 910?
These files are for the text-to-speech (TTS) part indeed. However, it doesn't seem to work in TT7 for PDA. I would like it to too...
About the cspeech File in TomTom maps
I have searched the Internet quite a bit because I thought about the very same question, but certain information about this topic is very rare - few people know it exactly.
But since this has been always a splinter in my mind I searched for it and found out the following:
the cspeech files are for a text-to-speech feature, which reads street names for example. You can watch a demo at YouTube here.
However, despite some assumptions it works definitely NOT with TomTom Navigator 7, which is the latest Software for PDA (Smartphone, Windows Mobile, etc.). Probably TomTom 8 will do it when it is available for PDAs.
So you might think about deleting these files to safe the ~250 MB (For Western- & Central Europe map) of space.
However many users report crashs without the files so I suggest you to replace them with 0 kB dummy files instead of just deleting them. This seems to work very good.
I uploaded a pack below which contains dummies for all countries. Just pick the ones for the files you have and override your originals. (However you also could make dummies on your own)
Happy navigating!
I hope you don't mind me to dig out this topic again, because I thought it would be very valuable information which is not easy to find in the internet.

Hello, I use IGO for my GPS software. Recently I was browsing over in the ROMS section, and one of the members posted how to download the voices that correspond with the software. However, he did not mention where to place the files, or how to actually use the voices on the IGO app itself. Does anyone know how to activate the voices on IGO?
I think you just have to place the .zip files in \Storage Card\iGO8\content\voice and then iGO should detect them next time you start. You can select which one to use once you start iGO and go into the options/settings.
Remember NOT to unzip the files. Just drop them into igo8/content/voices
thanks, ill try it this evening
Thanks, it worked!
