New Poll: Your experience about best Xperia radio - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Hi Guys,
On previous Poll :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3765226
Radio 1.14.25.55 get 91 votes over 141 and poll finished biggest lead on all all other old radios now as we all know new radio is extracted "1.16.25.48" from new Korean R3BA015 Rom (Credits : nik40) , its rilphone.dll is not compatible as i read people experience on his thread but people live this radio , as they claim it is battery friendly...
but i think voice quality depend in real rilphone.dll
Well i am starting new Poll between these two radios let`s see now
either 1.14.25.55 is best
or
1.16.25.48 is best
Very Fine Regards

62% Guys satisfied with new radio with out rilphone.dll?

I used this radio with the supplied rilphone, however it did not automatically store the sms messages anymore. Therefor I removed the updated rilphone and went back to the rilphone of 1.14, this combination works perfect . Not much battery use, good signal reciept and still able to receive sms messages.

What is this "rilphone.dll" exactly? Can someone explain what it does?

I tried 1.16 for a while but went back to 1.14 - damn can't remember why now
I know I never tried it with the 1.14 rilphone -- it's worth a shot for a few days.

i prefer my v1.14. i can see that my gps is more sensitive on v1.14 . n as well as more stable data connection.
v1.16 got better reception, but then it keep on switch between HSDPA ./ 3G even EDGE. make it less stable.
so i stick to v1.14. oh yeah, battery is clearly show longer battery life.

so thats likely to be the jataayu messaging app in leo sets up the drm security permissions differently.. it maybe that the leo based roms use discretix rather than lockstream drm so it doesnt interfere as much..
nice find, ive not tried the 1.16rilphone yet,
so i guess it would be possible to work backwards to work out which reg is interfering with the none leo roms..

Been using it on my wizard. good battery, great signal... don't seem to have any missed calls with Octavio's 6.0
It really is a much improved radio! Before, when I was out and about, somewhere between 10 and 20 feet inside the doors of Walmart and Costco, I would lose signal. Now I can go anywhere within those two metal-clad warehouses and never lose signal...even receiving and making calls within!
Needless to say, I'm very pleased.
missed calls have shown up...
Hi,
After installing the radio rom 2.71.11 on my phone (K-Jam with TNT 1921 rom) missed calls have shown up In one day I missed 3 (out of 8) calls. Additionally my phone locked up (just freezed!) while I was trying to make a call.. So, I switched back to 2.69.11
Cheers,
Orhan
I have been using it from the last two days and no missed calls and great signal.
Same here...no missed calls...been using it over a week now.
works great so far, no miss calls.
Been on my phone for weeks and I have better signal, About the same battery life.
Works Great
I had microphone and speaker voice scrambling and noise issues with older Radios apart 2.19 and 2.25 but this is even better
Thanks
testing it now...I'll let ya know...
*edit* I'm not finding any better reception...will continue to test though...
I had this for weeks now and I have no problems at all too.
The signal icon doesn't update
I have the Black Diamond 3.1 rom on my T-mobile MDA, updated from
a 2.25.xx radio verison to 2.71.11 and now my signal icon doesn't update. its stuck on whatever signal i have upon startup. I thought at first i was getting great signal everywhere, then my calls started dropping with 5 bars and i restarted and it showed 1 bar instead.
Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else using the 2.71.11 radio with the Black Diamond 3.1 rom?
Hi,
That is a nice version.
How can I install this ROM and do I loose all my settings when installing it?
Many Thanks
been using it for a week.... upgraded from 2.69.11.
seems stable and has better strength, but cannot confirm if it has absolute improvement over 2.69.11 until further testing.

Just flash previous version of only Radio ROM. If this does not work for any reason, flash your stock ROM.

Hi,
Do I have to put ActiveSync in Guest Mode before running the Radio ROM reflash or can I leave the ActiveSync Partnership intact?
Thanks.
Everyone is hoping and praying that there is a new radio that combines the stability and great battery life of radio 2.19 with better reception like 2.61. 2.71.11 might be it, but its soo new its hard to tell right now.

Vikasmestry, but since it doesn't work out for you here's a good alternative:
http://rapidshare.com/files/84722422/T-Mobile-UK_2.19.11_Radio_Only.zip.html
Its the T-Mobile UK 2.19 Radio I spoke about. This is considered one of the most stable (no missed calls) with great battery life and a good signal. Its being used by all versions of the Wizard and in nearly all countries by someone. So don't let the T-Mobile and UK description bother you.
Download, unzip and run the ROMUpdateUtility.
I've been using this radio for a week now, seems OK. I think the signal strength is a little better then 2.69 and the power consumption is about the same. No missed calls, but the missed call radio tweak is still installed in my wizard.

What radio works for you on the diamond?

I have just finished trying five after it was suggested and it was a terrible experience for me.. how about you? what radio is best.
I've tried ALL radios here around, and for me the best is .07, GSM signal is perfect, GPS fix very quick, battery life almost the same compared to .05, but I don't use 3G so I can't say for that.
bye,
davide
I use the 1.03.25.18
and it's fast like Hell, fast GPS fix (10 sec.), signal the best of all.(for me it is)

6 months!? You've had the diamond since april? and i thought I was early..
Hi,
Can i just ask, can people please state what country they are in when recommending radio roms as some of the available radios are designed for europe.
My second question is, can i flash a new radio without damaging my current rom configuration? (i.e. if i install a new radio will i need to reinstall all of my apps to my rom?)
thanks for your help
No, you are quite safe to flash a radio rom - it won't harm your installed items.
However, you do need Hard-SPL and that will hard reset your device

thanks for the info, i already have hard spl, i put that on the first time i booted my diamond!
i am uk voda user i use radio .07 and have found it far better than 05. gps fix is quicker but more importantly the wifi connection is more stable for me. i am using swiftbl rom 6.2 hope this helps
Started with .03, tried .07 and .08, currently use .05, but I'll try .07 again as it 'felt' like it had the best combination of reception, GPS lock and battery life for me.
.05 here, only one ive flashed myself (default came with .03) and its so much better that i haven't wanted to change or try any others

I have read the forum.. extensively..
For me .05 was not the best (with Duttys v2 rom) .. so that's the question.. what do you use.. whats best for you and your current setup.
one thing i am confused with is the fact that there are alot more radios than in the pole, see below:
Radio v1.00.25.03
Radio v1.00.25.05 (Quad Band,Save Power and have better Network Connection!) "Highly Recommended"
Radio v1.00.25.06 (Quad Band)
Radio v1.00.25.07 (Provided by duttythroy )
Radio v1.02.25.11 (Provided from Bepe )
Radio v1.03.25.18 (Provided from Bepe )
If your going to pole this thread, include all radios!!
Another thing i would like to bring your attention to, in your pole there is this radio: 1.00.25.08 Where is this available? i cannot find it anywhere!
Also maybe someone can explain this to me, i was under the impression that as new radios were developed/released they would be improvements based on the most current radio.
Using this thought process surely that would mean that Radio v1.03.25.18 would be the most up-to-date radio? (or does it not work like that?)
bennec83 dutty has a 08 radio on his download page..
the reason for not listing those others was because I expected 07 and 05 to be the only real contenders (and the others are ones I have tried)..
This seems to be born out by the current results..
Also I left the 'other' selection for the remainder

I'm on 2nd day of .08 (from dutty) radio and this one perform well such as .07 but I suppose something has improved .07 + .01 = .08
gps fix is really quick (at least from warm start) and the signal strength is really good (in open space always 7/8 sat)
just for note I use tomtom v7 and rom + radio in my signature

Currently using the 05.. But I agree with you Ghostrider. The 1.03.25.18 is fast as a lightning and battery time is jus wonderful, but I experiencing the hang problem, I think it might be connected to the Hard-SPL im using, it's 1.3(x)
.18 gave problems here too... now I'm running .08 (from dutty) and ALL is working very well, for what I've understood .08 ver comes from diamond 3G (us ver)

How to tweak to the maximum the Kaiser GPS?

Hello there,
I bought a week ago a second hand kaiser, and i noticed that it already had the hyper dragon IV lite rom flashed, so i told myself, all the hard work is done, go try some custom roms.
And I did, there was some lite ones, some plenty of softwares, some 6.5, but the thing i want from this phone is: THE GPS and the MP3 player, thos are the most important things for me, since i am all the time moving here and there, i really need them.
So, in order to be a more independant guy, i searched, and i searched again, i found some useful threads that made my gps work (because it almost wasn't working i bought it), and some others that made GPSTest display high bars on gps detecting but no fix at all (it also screwed my signal, and fu**** up my camera, and that's bad), all that by changing radio roms and trying.
And well i am very tired of trying again and again, feel just like if i was stuck in the middle of nowhere.
So, my questions:
Does the gps really work better on 6.0wm than the 6.1 and 6.5?
Does the gps really work better on stock roms than cooked ones?
Does the quickgps software really improve the speed to get a FIX?
How long are the bars your devices display when you activate your GPSTest soft? (i'm having a quarter max, and when i say a quarter, it is really the down limit of the quarter, it rarely go upper)
I have a tomtom 7.450 soft, and this thing is all the time saying bad gps reception (sometimes it even end up screaming no gps harware), is it normal?
So what software do you use for navigation?
I really don't care about cooked roms optimisations, fast and everything and all that, i want to be able to answer and emit calls, receive and send SMS, write some notes from time to time, and make GPS working great, wanna have a super fast fix.
I'm living at Brussel in belgium, living in the 5th floor, and testing my gps close to window, or i go to a parc 10 minutes away from home.
I am ready to try almost everything that can guis ALL of US to have a better GPS!
This works for me.

As I charge my TyTN II by putting it to bed in its cradle every night (which is connected via USB to my PC on the internet), it automatically updates its QuickGPS data so it's hardly ever more than a day old any way. Often times during a day while I've got an active data connection I'll also manually initiate a QuickGPS download. Interestingly, the HTC Official WM 6.1 'update' for my TyTN II broke this feature and QuickGPS wouldn't automatically update when plugged into its cradle - even manual updates didn't make a difference though as far as WM 6.1 was concerned.

I have version 6.032 which came with my HTC Branded TyTN II on an accompanying CDROM. It's still avail for purchase although for some crazy reason TomTom wont sell version 7 or even an upgrade to it so there's no official way to buy it except for on the devices it comes with. If you get hold of version 6 from TomTom on a device kitted out as per mine, it will work and work well - unless you have lead lined walls and heat reflective film on your windows in which case you'll only get good performance outside.

Similar priorities to me, the only true speed/performance related area I find important is GPS, reliability is the next preference and thats where the Radio version I'm using comes into things. I found that although 1.27.12.11 gave quick GPS fixes, sometimes when Pocket Media Player was playing a music or video file, it'd stall its playback while waiting for TomTom to get a fix. Radio version 1.27.12.32 fixes this and also gives quick GPS fixes. I have tried even newer radios (2 versions of 1.27.15.32) but alas as is with the case of many of the newer offerings, that was a step backwards in terms of GPS performance (at least here in the UK (/Europe?).
There is a section in the xda-dev wiki all about improving GPS performance if you haven't already found it.
I had tomtom 7 and the gps fix in that software was horrible for me. Even when google maps and gpstest had a good fix, tomtom would say "bad signal" or "no signal. I switched to igo which locks in after a minute and works perfectly. The other problem that could be affecting you might be the radio version. I had one radio that would make my GPS useless; it would never connect. Try changing your radios and see if that helps.

I don't understand what you're getting at. The precise setup in my signature works really well for GPS. If you flash all those components and aren't to far away from the UK, I imagine it'll work well for you - there's no harm in trying.

Thats because you've not read the relevant ROM Flashing wiki's and stickies enough to know that you must use a WM 6.0 Radio with a WM 6.0 ROM. I suggest you spend more time revising things in this area as it WILL be time well spent and you'll learn more about your device.

You did read the part in the wiki about making sure you have a WM 6.0 compatible SPL version didn't you (SPL questions? section covers it well). Again, you need ALL the bits in my sig (note that I don't need or use GPStest under this WM 6.0 setup). I cant say how it'll go with other than TomTom 6 as thats all I've used apart from Google Maps which also works very well on this setup - you might want to try the free Google Maps for testing purposes if you have a data package from your network provider.
I got my current setup by flashing hardSPL 1 then the complete ROM shown in my sig (which came with 1.27.12.11 Radio originally) then upgrading the radio to 1.27.12.32, then flashing the HTC 1.93 spl (this last step shouldn't be necessary though if you think you'll be doing more flashing).
I'm using the official WM6.1 and the GPS lock is horrible. I can see it getting signal from a number of sats but it can take 10minutes to lock in sometimes. I've read some threads on the subject, and have tried Quick GPS and have aGPS off, but neither guarantees a quick lock.
I seem to recall WM6.0 was better but it was also using a different radio then as well.
Anyway, sorry nothing I can offer to help.

You mean like the setup in my signature? You do realise it's possible to go back to this if you read up here on xda-dev about how to do so?

I agree, short of trying a custom WM 6.1 ROM, with no guarantee of success or installing third party apps to 'help' the GPS work properly, IMO WM 6.1 is a lost cause as far as GPS is concerned.
I had the same problems with the GPS, what I've found to work is using a program called GPSToday. there are 2 programs, one is a today plugin, and the other is a program. I use the program, and it really makes a difference for me. If you do a search in the Kaiser software forum, you will find more information about it. I use it with TomTom software, i start GPS today a min or 2 before i start tomtom and i get a fix right away.

Great News from Here
I Managed to get my phone configured exactly like yours, and god! It is damnly fast, i got my first fix within seconds, its almost unbelievable !
I had it configured like that when you first advised, but i forgot to downgrade spl, i suppose that was the cause of the malfunctioning.
I really recommend to everyone who have the same priorities, to flash back to Flying Kiwi settings:
ROM Version: 1.56.405.5
ROM Date: 08/28/07
Radio: 1.27.12.32 (better than 1.27.12.11 with WMP)
Protocol: 22.45.88.07H
SPL: 1.93

Here is the threads that can help you :
For the SPL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
For downloading the 1.56.405.5 rom: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
For the 1.27.12.32 radio: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Radio
Man, you really were very helpful, thank you very very very much, and my kaiser is even faster with this settings.
If i can help by anyway send a pm please
This post should be made sticky for future information!
EDIT:
I have to Warn you Guys: In order to have the GPS working you have to follow this procedure:
Flash the 1.56.405.5 rom and then flash the 1.27.12.32 radio rom, and finally flash the SPL, otherwise GPS will not work, i just tested that
Did the Wm6.0 up/downgrade also resolve the precission of the GPS?
Iam now on WM6.1 WWE with radio 1.70.19.09 and hardSPL 3.56 with a realy fast GPS fix within 30 secs. no problems with that
But the problem is that I mention a little lag kind of thing when navigation with TT7 in my car. The Tomtom arrow is little bit behind with the reality it is usable though but if i connect it to an external sirfIII gps mouse it is more accurate.
So I wonder if you guys also have a slight GPS lag with WM6.0...

6.5 Roms heating device

sorry if someone already discuss this before, searched and not found. Mod please feel free to close it if it is irrelevant.
Question is on average every ROM 6.5 (dutty, miri, energy) with manilla and no other progs installed heats up the device more on average than the 6.1 based roms (dutty, topix, etc)
This is happening with same radio version - also noted that with 6.5 the battery is lower than with 6.1 based roms.
anyone has this expericence also ?

I noticed the same too... The battery issue I was already aware of (especially with the Energy ROM).

Guys ,i have tryed many things for the battery and the best result for me is working with the new radio from Xperia 1.16!
battery not heating anymore ...
definitely. you r right, winmo 6.5 heating device after using 1-2 mins. and leo roms heating even more. btw, topix's rom smoother than onkolog's, even onkologs roms more lightweight than topix. best battery saving is onkolog. - personal experience.

that you are using onkolog, dutty, energy or any other rom,i think with radio 1.14 your device is always heating a lot,if he is asking from battery heating, change your rom is NOT the solution!
Try another radio and the difference is there.

nope. changing only the rom is fixing that. its not about radio (i didnt try .16 btw), but rom either affect this much.

if you change your rom and there is a rillphone inside the rom that works fine with your installed radio then your battery is not heating so much anymore thats right!
changing a rom without rillphone inside will change nothing on heating battery.
when i was working with radio 1.14 my device was heating a lot, then i installed the rillphone and battery was not heating so much anymore...now with changing the radio 1.16 my device is not heating anymore,go to the hex edited radios thread and read the comments...
having the same problem
i'm having the same problem
I guess.. the problem has strated when I started using 6.5 roms
if changing the radio could help, can anyone explain how to do it please

read this :

I've changed radio and roms with several combinations, this was just to get some feedback from community to understand if the problem was general.
With GPS or 3G enabled any rom/radio will heat the device (6.5 or 6.1), but on a daily usage, replicating mail, answering call, etc with a 6.1 rom (topix in this case) and 1.16 xperia radio I did notice that the device heats sometimes. but with all 6.5 roms I've tested (Miri, Energy) the device is allways hot - even on standby - getting hotter when I start using it.
as stated I was not really looking for a solution, but rather trying to understand if this was a common behavior and if it is, there should be some processes on 6.5 roms that are pushing more for the processor comparing with 6.1 roms
txs all for your feedback
PS: is there any ril cab for 1.16 radio ?

im using energyrom with radio 1.16 and my device is not heating!before when i was on 1.14 and i was using gps or looking at movies my device heating a lot!much more as with radio 1.16 now.the difference is the radio.
no there is no rillphone 1.16 but 1.14 works fine with 1.16 radio.
Guys, you have to understand that 6.5 is ported over blackstone with 6.1 drivers. 6.5 is not supported by htc on blackstone, thus no 6.5 compatible drivers ar being written, this of course will resullt in more battery consumption than 6.1.
And anyone considering changing radios to 1.16, PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS CAREFULLY. YOU NEED TO SECURITY UNLOCK YOUR PHONE. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE
thanks

will try it as soon as possible
Im using Energy 6.5 latest room and i can say that my battery life is over 5 days sometimes i forget when exactly i recharge my battery for last and also my phone didn`t heat when i play alot with the phone...
I also noticed that having WiFi on even if the screen is off, is heating the battery.
Once WiFi is turned off, the phone battery does not heat so much.
If wifi is configured for performance, try configuring for battery. usually makes a big difference to me.
Flashing 6.1 roms don't seem to change this setting (stored somewhere in radio nvram?), but i've seen flashing 6.5 reset it to performance at least once.

GPS reception

What is the best configuration for optimal GPS reception ?
I have a Touch HD with Miri's 7.1 version (23017 build) with Manila 2.5.
Radio 1.09.25.14
My GPS reception lowered considerable since upgrading from original WM6.1 rom.
I have less satellites and it takes much longer to connect to them.
Anyone else have similar issues ?
thanks,
jabax

I dont know if mirri have included a difrent RADIO in hes ROM. But try a diffrent RADIO, it might help. And check youre GPS settings as this might changed when you flashed to a new ROM.
And another thing... This question should be in mirris ROM thread. Mod is gonna lock this tread any time now..
