Hi there does anyone know how I can remove the headset icon on the top menu, since I cannot hear the other person while in a call, but they can hear me well. But if i use my headset that came with the phone, then i can hear the other person, how would i disable or turn this off? or does anyone know if that is the reason why I cannot hear the other person.

You need to give some info on your phone so we can help. Are you rooted? What rom are you using? What radio version do you have?
These are all the information i got from my phone.
Carrier: Rogers
Device: Dream (G1)
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Thanks for your help so far. I don't know alot of phones. i dunno what rooted mean?
I basically want to remove that headset icons shown above. I think that is what making my phone unable to hear the other person during a call.
Can you explain what your trying to accomplish. I keep reading your post but it's confusing. And I assume your on a stock build (no root) since I see your info posted.
Doesn't that headset mean you have bluetooth headset on?
Maybe turn it off?
So you're saying you see the headset icon even when you aren't using a headset?
Also, what kind of headset?
yes that is exactly what's i'm trying to say, sorry if it sound so confusing. How would i remove it. I'm not using any headset at the moment.
Is your bluetooth turned on
everything is off, i even remove my sim card, and still show the icon. Not using any bluetooth headset or any headset device. just want to remove it, could i flash anything or do anything to restore it to it factory setting.

Reboot into recovery (Power off, and then hold Home + Power when turning it on)
Hit ALT+L to see options, ALT+W to wipe
Did the wipe of everything, but still show the headset icon. What can I do next? it is a hardware issue?
If you wiped it and its still there its very possible it might be your phone. When you wipe it resets it to the factory settings. I would say root it and load a custom rom but I forgot you said you are on rogers and I don't think there are any roms for your phone yet (I could be wrong tho).
When you wiped it did you have to login into google like you did the very first time you got the phone.
Does the headset icon remain when you plug the phone in to charge? Try both USB-to-PC as well as to wall.
Could be a hardware issue where the phone always think a headset is plugged in. Is your headset a plugged-in one or a bluetooth one?
Yes i did have to log on the google, but i chose not to, since i still see the headset icons. Thanks for all your help though, really appreciated
I never used any bluetooth headset, yesterday night i try to use the original headset that came with the phone, and I can hear the other party, but when i take it out then i no longer hear the other party, nor any rings when people call me. Also when i charge the phone I still see the icon there
Hmm, there was a thread about a headset widget, let me see if I can dig that up. I can't remember if that widget requires root or not though.
Give this a shot:
Info: http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/
Download: http://toggleheadset.googlecode.com/files/ToggleHeadset.apk
i will give it a try tonight and will let you guys know. thanks once again.
Thank You everyone, everything is working properly now, i did the restore factory setting, and now inserting my sim it the headset icon disappeared and I can make call and hear the other party now. Thanks again for all your helps. God Bless.

Hello,
Recently I started using windows media player in my diamond and it was working really good. But for about a week now my phone have been starting to call up random people in my phonebook, several times in a row. I always put the phone in lock mode and put the phone to sleep. But still it continues to call up people and it's kinda annoying when your friends get pissed because your phone accidentely called them up at 6am in the morning haha.
Anyone else have the same problem?
I am pretty sure that you are using some extUSB adapter ( 3in1 ) and that is the reason. If it is poor quality the cables very often loose the isolation and in result occasionaly connect causing effect like with normal headset and double click of active button which is normally redial.
I hope I helped
Awesome reply
I checked my headset and you were right. I pushed the headset button and it automatically redialed. Can I configure this setting so it won't happen again?
Best Regards
i also having this problem....anyone help?
Same here.
There are other threads about this problem.
Still looking for a solution like, let's say a registry hack that disables the headset button...
HELP
i have the same problem and i have nothing connected with the device locked so it couldn't be me.
can someone make some software to stop all calls unless code is entered.
I just upgraded to 2.2 for the Captivate using the ODIN3, and everything is working great except sound through the headphone jack.
Music, navigation plays through the headset, but phone calls and notifications don't.
How am I supposed to hear them with music blearing over it?
Anyone know of a fix? I checked the settings and I don't see an option for it.

Search would have told you that this is a known issue - 2.2 is Beta.
There is no known fix.

You are lucky, mine doesnt let me even hear media or music thru the 3.5 mm!
???
I have 2.2 installed and don't have any issue with the headset.
Both music and phone calls work great.
BTW I'm using the stock hands free, the one that came with the phone.
My bluetooth works fine, it's the headphone jack I'm talking about.
i am having the same issue after upgrading via odin3. I also have to click the home button to clear a read text message or else it reminds me again.

No voice out of the "3.5 mm"?
Yeah that was a LOLWUT post. And that's been on the phone since I've had it, it's intentional, I think. Because you have to press the back button to clear the notification, because when you click on messages again, it stays at the same spot and the notification stays in the title bar because you didn't clear it.
i hear sound but i dont hear voicalls or notifications. if im listening to music with my sony headphones and someone calls i dont the ring through the headphones or the voice. i have to use the handset

when i was on 2.1, if i clicked a message from the notifiaction bar it would bring to the thread and mark it as read. froyo is not doing that. is there a way to fix it
IDK what 2.1 you had.
The one I had, I had to press back to clear the notification. It still does the same thing on 2.2.
It could be a bug, it is a beta.

I missed reading that in the notes.
I've searched quite a bit and never ran accross anyone mentioning it.
My headphones play music, notifications, everything just great, but in call volume is terribly low (NOT on headphones, but when I route the aux cable to my stereo in my car)
I had the issue initially in 2.1 from stock ROM, but managed to fix it somehow, and I can't figure out how. I tried all the evice level fixes, eve 6 different audio control apps off the market.
My typical setup is that I never use earbuds or headphones. I plug the aux cable into my headphone jack and run it sraight into my car CD player in aux mode. It plays everything at normal levels EXCEPT in call volume. If this is a bug, I'll just have to deal with it then.
Hi!
Everytime i get or make a call i cant hear my "call-partner"...when i turn speaker on i can hear him perfect! He can hear me also perfect the whole time! When i click on Volume up it shows "Headphone volume" and the over the headphone i can my call-partner. So i guess my phone thinks the headphones are connected?! But... my media player works normally over my speakers and my phone rings, also....
pls help me out...its now almost 3 weeks, that i always have to make calls over the speaker and i flashed every possible firmware...from stock ginger to cyano to miui back to a ginger-rom and and and ....

Maybe there is some trouble with your Headphone input detection. Have you tried to use a headphone with it? Do you have sound then?
Thanks for the answer!
Yes, when i put my headphones in, i can hear the voice of the "caller" and i can hear music....but when i put the headphones out again, i cant hear him.
So i thought, perhaps my phone thinks that there are always my headphones plugged in.... but my music player plays sound through the speakers....strange?!
whats going on?! is there a different phone.apk i could try? but i flashed many FW and nothing solved the problem...
or does an app exist here i can test my external ear speaker?!
I vaguely remember a CM7 issue wherein you had to toggle mute to trigger the voice to work on calls. I'm sure your problem is different, since it's happening across multitple firmwares, but it's food for thought.
I would have also assumed your phone was thinking headphones were plugged in when they weren't. But if music plays through the rear speaker just fine, this must not be the case.
Whatever it is, good luck!
Does nobody know a method or a app with what i can test my "Earspeaker" ?
I have the same issue with my i9000M and have been unable to determine the cause. There must be a way to completely wipe the phone and restore a stock ROM in order to reset whatever setting controls handset speaker volume.
psss... noone is looking??? it is top secter Samsung's procedure, do not share:
1. factory wipe
2. flash stock firmware
3. factory wipe
I've got this exact issue.. proximity sensor is also broken and locks up the phone. I disabled it with a patch - but my earpiece is non-functional on stock.
Ideas? Hardware defect?
[Sorry to bump.]
Got Note 3 on launch day. Worked well until a few days ago when all attempts to use my Bluetooth speakers (Jambox and Big Jambox) began to result in the sound coming nearly inaudibly from the phone speaker. Additionally, when I attempt to use the auxillary jack in my car through the headphone port on the phone to listen to audio, the sound now comes out the car's speaker phone unless I turn off Bluetooth (on the phone). Even worse, after I attempt to use Bluetooth, the volume on the phone is stuck at approximately 25% of normal even with the all the volume sliders at maximum until I restart the phone. I have performed a factory reset without any change. I have unpaired and re-paired all three Bluetooth devices I use. Any ideas on how to fix this or do I have a faulty unit? Any help would be appreciated.

Finally...found someone who is having the same problem as mine.
yes.. im getting pissed off because of this to. Had to do a factory reset for nothing. Didnt fix it at all.
when i get into my car and turn the bluetooth on ... open the stock music app...it says "unable to play during call". Using another music app will result in the sound coming from the phone speaker (the one to use for calling)... reseting the phone makes no difference....
this is really annoying..

I did not have this kinda issue with the old version that came with the phone. After the newest update, it's kept on happening. So I guess its because of the update....
"the volume on the phone is stuck at approximately 25% of normal" => This actually is the reason why we can't play music. The phone thinks that we are on a call.
Your point about the volume rocker showing the call symbol is exactly what was happening in retrospect. And the phone, while it wouldn't play media files, would still connect for a phone call. This is all past tense because I swapped that phone out tonight and am really hoping that will do the trick. One would think that if this was due to an update, a whole lot more people would be having trouble.

Unfortunately, the new phone is acting like almost exactly like the old one now so software it is. I have found a couple of work arounds but hope they will be only needed temporarily.

Found an idea on another forum that seems (so far) to have solved my problem. One of the folks on the Android Central forum noted that when the text+ app was set to take incoming calls, the Bluetooth got wonky in exactly the same way mine did. When I unchecked "Enable incoming calls" in the settings of the text+ app, my phone started working correctly again (so far).

Had the same issue, using a galaxy s3 took the 4.3 update and the problem started.
turns out it was text plus, I had to log off of text plus , all good once again. I'm going to uninstall text plus and re install, see if it helps, if not, I don't need that app that bad.

hey guys, I've got a problem with my xperia sp
I was on vanir 5.1.1 aosp when my phone went to bootloop so I restored back to stock 4.1 firmware(.254)
but I realized that my speaker does not work with musics but it does sound in some places like setting
and also my primary mic and earphone does not work during call
I typed *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer and tried testing speaker-earphone-mic and there was no response
So I installed the app soundabout like it was said in another topic and it shows that bluetooth(MONO) is being used for calls and I dont know what that means!
I tried changing setting through app and now i get sound from speaker and mic is working but whatever i do earphone wont work, and there is another issue, the phone wont recognize my handsfree anymore(stock one and other ones) is continues playing through speaker even when i plug in my handsfree!!
and after changing soundabout settings the sensor which turns sceen off when its close to ear is always on and when my finger is close to it, screen goes off!!!
help me out guys I dont know what happened!!!!

Recently I had a similar issue. My SP always thought headphones are plugged in but actually they are not.
Reflash stock wiping everything.
About that SoundAbout app you better learn how to use it before you modify any setting. For now only check the notification bar whether headphone or loudspeker is used for media output.
Set phone call audio to "Let App Decide"

Dont try graphite method right now. First we need to confirm its a hardware or software issue.
Uninstall and install SoundAbout app and dont make any changes. Then u hit SoundAbout Service and choose ON-With Status and then tell me what u see in the notification panel(in use for media).
P.S. Use thanks button instead of saying thanks.

well I flashed the rom all over again and installed soundabout, there isnt a ON-with status option instead there is on-forground so i chose that the moment the notification came, touch sounds started to work(and walkman plays now through speaker) but handsfree is not detected - mic and earphone still not working
in status it says: Bluetooth (mono) in use for phone call
I actually did the graphite thing! but no luck and also i think it's not even a method cause graphite can even cause damage!

Now i got your problem. It has nothing to do with graphite thing. Graphite method is used for stuck in headset mode.
Some sort of bluetooth device is connected with your phone and ur phone is transferring the mic and earphone control over to that bluetooth device. U turn off bluetooth and check if mic and earphone work. Also check soundabout status and if possible upload the screenshot of notification panel showing the current media status.

Okay...... Okay ur device reporting false positive that Bluetooth device is connected but in reality its not. My version is the latest one v2.6.4. I recommend u to update it.
But anyways u try this.
1.Bluetooth behavious->tick (Mono) microphone override
Probably ur mic will start working.
2.Phone call audio->Earpiece
This would be an universal override to force audio from earpiece.
If possible update ur app coz the setting i said may or may not be available.

Please refer to the other thread by me in Q&A section.

Actually it should work. Dont give up.
The actual description of the problem is phone is stuck in headset mode.
Here is how to get graphite from pencil.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AFYtNMweyM
Put the graphite powder in the headphone jack and plug in & out headphones 10x times. Try to put more graphite powder and repeat until your notification panel shows "Phone speaker in use for media" (check attachment).
At last if it didnt work then the only solution left will be replacing the headphone socket.
Good Luck!
Just a little Addition, replacing the headphone socket would be cheap and easy. I had opened my phone yesterday to clean it and this socket was easy to take out.
By the way: There can be a LOT of dust under the protector of your front speaker. Cleaning this has improved the sound while calling quite much!
