Updating failures are almost 99% problems with your ROM or whatever you're updating with. Try re-downloading and using MD5 if possible. See how that goes
thank you soo much. that was the problem. i downloaded a different rom and checked it with md5 and it worked on my phone first try. i guess the alll the other ones went bad somewhere

Ok well first of all let me start out by saying that i'm fairly new to rooting and stuff like that. I first bricked my phone trying to install the JAChero build lol. So after getting the replacement phone and learning from my mistake, I finally got it installed and love it. My question is how do I upgrade it from the 2.63 that I have to the 2.7 that is out now? Do I just upload the update file to my sd card and reflash? Or is there an easier way of doing it?
Thanks

Yep - download, rename to update.zip, reboot & flash. Need to check the JACHero thread to see if a wipe is needed, but probably not for a simple upgrade.
Just recieved my replacement G1 and it had the 1.5 update already on the phone,I have been trying to root the phone and it will not take it. I tried to load the 1.0 software and it won't take it eaither.

http://theunlockr.com/2009/06/21/how-to-save-apps-to-your-sd-card-on-the-g1/
after going through the process of rooting and loading a new rom from the above link , my last step to was to save the apps to my sd card, followed steps and set the part to 297.3 and then my phone stays on the G1 bootup screen does not want to boot up, has this step claimed another phone? a little annoyed at the moment
Could we get a developer's take on this issue?
ok followed steps to reload JF update on phone and its back to its normal state. I wont be follwoing the above links anymore...
Can someone point me to a better apps to sd link?
Hey guys im looking to root my G1 (UK) am i safe to do it even though ive recently updated and my build number is CRC1? im really wanting my phone to appear to have the hero interface so am i correct in thinking that i just need to root it, apply Cyanogen's Recovery and then run the latest JAChero ROM? thanks - Adam
You'll have to downgrade to RC7, then root, then update your radio, then update your SPL, then update your ROM.

heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 thats what im going to be using, ill let you know how i get on..... if i dare to do it.
If you follow that guide you won't have any issues. Just take your time to read it all first while you download the required files. Familiarise yourself with the steps then just take your time with it.
Quick update, everything went well and im more that happy its like having a new phone - Thanks guys
- just wondering can i now format my memory stick to get rid of all the files i put on it or are there things on it that will stop my phone from running root and roms? - Thanks - Adam

You can go ahead and format your SD card, there is nothing on there that gives root "permissions". Make sure you only format the FAT32 partition though and not the EXT partition because you will lose Apps 2 SD if you did that step already. If you didn't partition your SD card yet in preparation for your Hero build, and have no idea what I'm talking about, you can still format it and not lose root or ROMS lol
I have a crc1 version, but i don't know which version if UE or US. Immagine US because is from there. The procedure is the normal one, installing the RC29 or RC7? Which one of thos i have to install, the RC29 or the RC7?
Thanks a lot in advance.

hey guys i'm trying to root my phone first time
i've moved DREAIMG.NBH, recovery.img and update.zip to sd card and then turn off my phone. Then i hold camera button and press power button to entry bootloader mode and i got the message checking.......and then "not allowed"
where's the problem,
i have CRC1 firmware 1.5, Germany T-mobile
^ try doing the .nbh file by itself first, on your SD card that is formatted to Fat32. Then reboot, delete this file from your SD, then add the other files to the SD card. Follow the guide, it will not fail you.
with that said, you should find cyanogens image file... it is pretty awesome. ver 1.4.
nothing again,
i did as you said and again i've got messag. when reboot "not allow"
here is spec:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.96.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
whats the next, can u help me?
did you get the correct .nbh file (RC29 is for the US only, RC7 is for the UK)
Did you format your SD card using your computer to FAT32?
Did you copy the correct .nbh file to the SD card (that was blank... no folders, nothing on it)?
:edit added:
Just saw the other info you posted... have you already installed the new radio and SPL? I do not know if the order of things matter.... but it does not follow the instructions for rooting. If you have already done that, you may need to look for the more experienced people on here to chime in.

RC8 or RC9 are just updated RC7 w/ the root exploit fixed ( its like RC30 for the US)
You may have to try the GoldCard Method
Heres a tut

you can stop before you get to where it says
FOR THE HERO ROMS
because you don't need to take that risk unless you want hero
thx for that link, that is really what i need, but that's confusing me for understand
im having a heck of a time getting my phone rooted again. i was running CM6.1 when i wanted to apply the repartition mods. well, i did something wrong a few times, and it broke. i have no clue what has happened, but i need help. yesterday, i was able to root and install CM6.1, but it has RA recovery, which i dont like, and no data connection without wifi. today, i ran the .7 ruu, followed the easy root method, but it seems that root manager isnt able to install clockwork recovery properly! i can get su with QtADB, so i know its there, but it simply isnt working. any suggestions or questions that i havent clarified, please ask, becuase im kinda desperate.
I went through some of these problems some time back.
I would recommend you to run .5 RUU, root using regaw's method, install ROM manager to get recovery and go from there.

is it possible to drop back down to .5 from .7? becuase the tool just hangs on "sending..." and it hasnt worked for me. otherwise, i would have run unrevoked a long time ago.
Just run the .5 RUU from your computer, it should do it... worked for me.

but it isnt working! its stuck on the "sending......" piece. see, heres how i do it. i run the .5 ruu. it sends the phone to bootloader, i get error 171, i rerun the ruu while the phone is still on bootlader. last time i did that, it worked just fine. now, it gets stuck at "sending........" and i have to stop the whole thing and do a battery pull. im really lost here, i really need to get this working too.
EDIT: i downloaded the .6 ruu and tried that out, and this time, i let it run. i didnt stop it. i got error 150, wrong bootloader version. how can i fix that?
I am sorry man... . I am not sure how to resolve that. Maybe someone around can...
BTW, were you able to run any other RUU?

i think im able to run .7 all the time, but the .7 root method doesnt seem to be complete or im doing something wrong. i just want to get back to .5, thats where i know how to do things.
EDIT: i did some more reading, and i found on android central that you cant use an ruu to flash a phone with a higher hboot than what the ruu updates to. so since .7 seems to use a different hboot then all the rest, i have to keep resetting to .7 until i can get the root to finally work for sure. there seems to be a little trial and error involved with the easy root method.
EDIT2: I FIXED IT! WOOT! i have absolutely no clue what happened there. im so paranoid now that ill probably do nandroid backups daily lol ...whew, that was tough...

Glad that it worked out.
However, about your comment of going back from .7 to .5, not sure how the hboot thing works, but I have downgraded from .7 to .5. I was having trouble with my .7 rooting and then had to RUU .5, root, recover and go that way...
Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I followed the directions in the email that she got about copying the file. to the root directory of the Nook. It was supposed to update itself but never did. Any ideas?
Did you block the ota update? Rooted?
Fwiw. Mine would not manually update. I restored to 1.0.1 and it took the Ota to 1.2 in a few minutes
Sent from my NOOKcolor using Tapatalk
Its a stock nook..... so I'm not sure why it wont update.....
Try rebooting with the power cable plugged in.

Perhaps the download is bad. Try downloading it again and placing in the root. It took a few minutes after booting to flash on my backup NC (stock).

You could restore to stock and then let it take the OTA update. As I mentioned that is what I did.
Here are a couple of "official" ways to restore to stock.
http://www.nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
If the 8 reset way does not work you can replace the ROM the CWM method described here. This is what finally worked for me.

Here is my thread requesting help with restoring to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057482
Not sure if it's relevant but when I restored to stock to try the official 1.2 update, I had to clear /cache before it would take the update. Maybe you can make a bootable microsd card and just do that?
Ok thanks. guys, I finally got it to install. Its a pretty dissapointing actually LOL.
