Hey guys, I'm currently running APNdroid AND Droidwall to prevent my phone from using any data, I dont want to be charged unexpectedly cause of my apps and whatnot. Anywho, so far its working, and I was just wondering, I like to flash my phone a lot (Drizzy's Touch Flo 3D and JACHero ect. [lots of updates]) and wanted to know, after I flash my phone, will my phone still be NOT connected to the internet? Or would I have to hold off on flashing my phone?
can anyone help me here? thanks.
If you use APNdroid the phone will not use any cellular data, no need for Droid Wall.
When you flash a new build, if you wipe then your APN settings will be lost (and thus you may revert to using data again). It's very easy to tell if your APNs have been blocked by APNdroid: if you see a G, E, 3G or H network connection icon, you are using cellular data. No icon, no data usage.
ok thanks for the heads-up

I currently have something on the phone not allowing 3g access. I can't seem to figure out what it is, but I believe I narrowed it down to an App. I did a wipe and clean rom install and 3g was working fine. I did a titanium backup restore of all apps with data and now 3g isn't working again. Anyone know of an easy way to pinpoint what is blocking my 3g? I tried ending all tasks in advanced task manager, but I'm guessing the phone would need a reboot to bring back 3g?
Have you check you settings-wireless & networks-mobile networks-use only 2g networks?
ya I tried using only 2g network, I even tried researching the network and it finds tmobile in the settings. I even went as far as getting a fresh sim card prior to wiping the phone. Somehow after an app/data restore from titanium back up, tmobile internet no longer works still. It's why I wiped in the first place.
1) Double check your APN settings in settings > networks > mobile networks
2) In dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* > choose phone info > scroll down > verify that 'set preferred network type' reads WCDMA preferred.
3) Also in settings, make sure you didnt set 'use 2g only'. Same location as #2 above
Thanks for your help. I actually just did a nandrestore from an image I had that was a week old and internet came back, so it has to of been something I done within a weeks time. I just hope I don't end up hitting the app that stopped it, if I think it was one, because thats the only thing that makes sense to me.
I have your same problem could you be so kind as to attach the img you put so I try too? thanks

Then you will have his phone.
you mean....?
i Think i have a similar problem... I turn 3g on and after half an hour i cannot access the internet anymore... The sign in the notification area shows the "sent arrow" blinking but the receive arrow does nothing... I have apndroid to control my 3g usage... I unistalled it, did a reboot but again the problem persists... Do you have anything in mind???
I forgot to mention that the exact same thing happens with 2g network as well

When someone does a nandroid backup, it backs up all the data on the phone. All of it, if you restore it to your phone, you will be logged into google as him, you will have all his contacts, messages, settings etc. If one of you downloads something, it may download on both machines. The only way to fix it would be to wipe both of them.
i have the same problem. two days ago its working fine. i just turn on turn off the wifi and it just works again.
Can also try turning the airplane mode on/off. This problem occurs if you use APNdroid or similar, or toggle mobile connection on the Desire ROM.
tired of trying and try to wipe, reset, several rom, so I decided to send it to HTC in England ... and the problem is which has the bootloader unlock my ...
so im leaving the country in a few hours and taking my G1 with me, been looking at solutions to effectively disable ALL mobile data, without affecting Voice. basically i'll be using a PPD SIM and dont want random data charges munching my minutes.... all sense roms have this option built in, but heres a few problems, 1.5 has no nav in maps, and i plan on using it over WIFI, 2.1 sense is just too batt hungry and unstable to possibly wind up lost in a foreign country where i speak 0 words of the native language.
from what ive read APNdroid doesn't quite do it.... is there any way as root i could effectively "break" the data connection?
or alternatively does anyone know of SoftBank in Japan offers ultd Data for PPD SIMs? if so how much? and any ideas weather i'll be able to get 3G or only EDGE with my T-mo Radio
try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
then "Phone information"
menu button
"More"
"Disable data connection"
Do the same to turn it back on.
id read about this fix as well, however it appears it doesnt hold across reboots, ima be here for a couple weeks, i need a more permanent solution...
is there no way to physically remove the drivers that control the mobile network via ADB or maybe pull it out of an update.zip before flashing?
I think the option below it is "disable on boot". You could try that.
change the APN settings, or get a program called quick settings from the market. either way is a quick fix.
the set on boot option will reset its self after the WiFi is cycled... and of course without data i'll be using wifi as much as possible.... so far APN droid has served me pretty well, however i've still cought glimpses of that 3G icon, so if anyone has any ideas im all ears
i remember some early Haykuro ports that had improper Radio drivers and had no data connection, so if anyone knows what files those would be thats really the key im looking for
bump/update
the only time i see it trying to pull data when the APN is disabled, auto sync is off, and bkgrnd data is off, is in one of 2 cases, immeadeatly after i cycle off wifi, i see the 3g icon for a split second, and sometimes when im in Market uninstalling something
ive come to the conclusion its probably easier to just leave WiFi on and not touch the market unless ive got a WiFi signal, but now its almost a matter of i know that theres got to be a way to do it (seeing as with Root, i should be able to "break" just about anything) and its eluding me....
if anyone has any clue as to what files control the data "drivers" or whatever, im sure i can take it from there, just need a push in the right direction (or directory, lol)
Go to APN under Networks and just delete all the APNs.
Alternatively you can make a new one with bogus information and select it.
... did you even read my post.... that was my first try, days ago...
There have been a few discussions about this, but I have yet to find a solution that works for me...
I flashed CM6 today and now I'm finding that when I enable wifi, my 3g data connection is lost. Not sure this is really a CM problem, I just want to find a fix.
My setup:
Nexus One - CM6.RC1 - FRF91

what do you mean it's lost.. when you're turning Wifi on, that's the whole point (that you want to use your Wifi connection for data, and not your mobile 3G data.) Maybe I'm not understanding you?

Even with wifi on you still need 3g data to send and receive MMS. I can't replicate this problem, though, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. All I can suggest is trying a full wipe of everything but battery and rotate stats and try to flash it again. See if that helps.
It works fine for me. Are you sure you are confussing not having both icons in the notification bar with 3g being off?
I answered this question a few months ago too.
Your 3g is not lost, it just hides the icon. Go into settings and look what network you are still connected to for yourself, it will still say 3g. If you were to send or receive an mms the 3g icon would briefly pop up, send the message, then disappear. Your phone is working just fine
thanks for the help... @roger, you are correct, i didn't realize that the icon was hidden vs. actually turned off, nor did i think to go check the actual service rather than rely on the icon
I just got off the phone with Verizon. My Rezound has 4G, but the Droid4 has no data (but does have voice, and Wifi works). They had me do the following:
- Reboot the phone (did that before calling)
- Pull and re-seat SIM card and SD card
- Clear Browser app data and cache (morons)
- Toggle airplane mode
- Toggle Data roaming
- Safe mode
I also tried toggling CDMA/LTE with CDMA-only on my own, and cleared the cache partition in Recovery.
Nothing I do can get data back. Also, after a reboot none of the text messages she received today are still in the app. Since my phone is working, a network outage doesn't seem likely. The D4 is rooted but no custom ROM.

Thanks, but it didn't change anything. VZW suggested I try a factory reset, will it mess up root? I don't mind rerunnung the script if necessary but I want to make sure it won't break the phone.
One other question is because I am new to SIM cards, could a bad SIM work with voice but not data?
EDIT: Doesn't the 3G still go over CDMA, so shouldn't I have 3g at least, even with a bad SIM?
I have very off and on data. I go to airplane mode and back and sometimes it fixes it. Could b circumstance..I am on my second d4 and it was so bad I had to get on wifi to setup and sync everything on this new replacement ...I'm rooted as well but obviously I wasn't when I did setup and it was bad. I don't think root is to blame. Could b the sim. We r in a good coverage area supposedly.

Voice is still over CDMA/3G, LTE is for data only, and is what the SIM is for.
On your phone do you have the lte logo pop up?
I have been having issues with my d4 which is rooted as well. I have figured out for some reason the APN that controls the internet keeps dropping out however the IMS APN stays connected. When that happens the lte logo stays up but turns white and when the internet APN is connected it turns blue.

There is no signal bar for 3g or LTE. unless you refer to a different symbol?
Some of the Razrs have the same problem. Probably you will need a phone swap, would try factory reset first.
Did you do a restore from titanium backup? If so was it a restore of EVERYTHING? Cause I did that when I got my droid 4 and I had no data or anything once the restore finished. I had to do a full blown factory reset then everything was good again.

I assume you've already tried settings->data manager->data enabled, checked?
My D4 decided to turn this feature off on its own yesterday. I use the Smart Actions app to disable cell data when using a wifi connection and this configuration might have caused some kind of hiccup and not allowed the cell data to come back on when a wifi connection was out of range. I had to hunt around a little after trying most of the stuff you mention above only to find the data enabled, not checked. Simply turned it on and LTE came back instantly.
Good luck.
Verizon tech support told me this is a known software issue with the Droid 4 and advised me to keep the WiFi turned off when I didn't need it. They also said a fix was on the way around the end of July. (This now appears to be ICS, which looks like it might be out very soon.)
From my own use, WiFi appears to be responsible. I can lose my data connection when WiFi is turned on even when I'm not connected just like I was told.
I can also lose data when Notify Me is enabled in settings. This will manifest as losing the data connection when opening an app that uses a data connection, such as the browser. I chalk this up to the phone refreshing the available AP list for which turns on the WiFi, even when it's disabled.
My suggestion is to turn off WiFi when you don't need it and disable anything else that can call it up like the Notify Me setting, Google and Verizon location services, and turn off settings in any apps that might enable it.

Hi all, thanks a lot to read the thread and try to help.
The thing is that even I haven't install anything nor updating any room, I have a real problem lately.
If I use WiFi my HTC works fine, but when I disconnect WiFi, even a data logo appears (H or 3G) nothing that uses data works.
I cannot use Whatsapp, Facebook even open Google on a new tab.
The arrows keep moving on my status bar, but I downloaded a data monitor and says that nothing is moving in data usage.
What can I do before I lose WiFi?
I have restored the mobile phone, a complete wipe, i'll write you soon.
Call your operator because it seems to be
A: a provider sided problem
B: a signal problem
C: hardware/software problem
If c: try to get a replacement.

Same problem, except it is intermittent. Have always had LTE service in my apartment until a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes the mobile data works, sometimes it doesn't. Full bars, shows data icon, but can NEVER download MMS, even when mobile data is working.
Any help other than call the provider?
