hey everybody:
Does anyone know where I can donwload OZ'maps for TOMTOM?
Cheers
Yeah. Off the CD you bought.
I'll help you.
Either go here:
http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php?Language=8&D=23
Or you can install Tomtom HOME on your PC and download and Sync from there.
I even think you may be able to download from within Tomtom navigator.
So many options, BUT surely you knew that right?
I don't think he has a legal copy of TT, cause if he did he'd know where to dl maps from.
Hello! I purchased a 6 GB card for my AT&T Tilt as I wanted to keep both CNNANT 2K8 and CNEurNT v9 readily at hand (as well as music, etc.) I travel to Europe regularly and didn't want to have to juggle data on a 2 GB card. Anyway, I installed Mobile XT on the card successfully and I'm using the latest versions of MapInstall and MapSource on my laptop running Vista. I have the map files unlocked and can display them on my laptop. I have keys generated for both map sets and pasted into both the .UNL files in the Garmin folder on the card. It appears as one continuous 75-character key in each file. However...when I attempt to install both map sets to the card, although the install appears to go normally, I can display only one or the other map set. I can see through Windows Explorer that the available space on the card is down to what it would be with both map sets installed. I go to 'Manage My Data' in XT and all I can see is one of the map sets -- Europe or North America. I have tried every trick I can think of to get both sets to install properly but there's no difference. I do notice that when both have been installed, Mobile XT takes an inordinately long time to initialize on my Tilt. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Warez discussion is not allowed on this board.
Anyway, contact Garmin if you want http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/support/supportcontact
Wasn't discussing "warez," there...
Thanks for the reply. All I'm attempting to do is combine both map sets on one card. If Garmin tech support was worth contacting, I would have done it. I'm not pirating and not condoning those who do. The "keys" in question are only to facilitate letting me combine what's already mine in a format useful to me. These issues have been sufficiently beaten to death on other threads so let's not belabor the issue.
Sorry for the rant...
changing maps with mortscript
I was asking myself too if it's possible to use two different maps the same time.
But i don't think it's possible with the pda version from Garmin. Correct me if I'm wrong....
My workaround is a little mortscript i made to choose which map i want to use....
If you're interested i can send it to you, you only have to change the values etc...
It's quite possible to have more than 1 map in a card, but it's required some key generate to make it work because of the Garmin's brilliant ideal (locked map to its specified tiny 1GB-2GB card.)
if you want to have multiple maps for different areas on one card, you should use "gmaptool" to combine them and load the resulting .img file on your device.
You have to have the maps unlocked BEFORE combining them, everything als wont work.
Sadly you can`t use mapsource with the combined file without buying the programm "img2mapsource" wich could do the job.
I dont really need mapsource though.
You can even combine to maps of the smae area, for example to get autorouting in a topo map.
To do so, you have to unlock both maps, set the map prioority with gmaptool to show the topo map over the auto.routing map and combine them afterwards.
The program is used in the command line. Read the readme for further instructions.
There is another way... still manual though.
I use MapSource to transfer only the maps I need to my Tilt. Unfortunately, as you all probably know by now, Garmin Mobile XT does not allow more than one map on the card simultaneously. If you try to do it from MapSource, the new map overwrites the old map.
So what I do is create mapsets in MapSource and save them for quick recall.
I created a mapset for all of North America using City Navigator 8 maps. Then I transferred that to my Tilt. Next I went onto my Tilt's SD card and renamed the mapset with a "CN-" prefix.
Now, I went back into MapSource and created a mapset for the NW states of the US using my Topographic 2008 maps. Then I transferred that to my Tilt. Next, I went onto my Tilt's SD card and renamed the mapset with a "Topo-" prefix.
Depending upon which mapset I want to use (on road or off road), I just remove the prefix and launch Garmin Mobile XT.
It's a manual process to switch maps, but it's minimal work and they're always on the card where ever I go. I'm sure you could do the same with EU maps or other maps.
i think that's exactly what i am doing with my mortscript

I'm not sure if you're still looking for an answer on this or if you already figured out how to do this yet but I figured its worth a shot. I'm currently running Mobile XT on my Moto Q9h (WM6 device). The problem I was having was that if I loaded the detail maps for all of North America on to my 8gb sd card and then tried launching XT it would just hang on the splash screen at the beginning. After a bunch of reading and research I found a website that talked about loading different mapsets to XT (unfortunately I cant remember the website otherwise I'd give them the credit...). So what I ended up doing was breaking down my NA maps into 1 mapset for Canada and 1 for the US then I loaded both to my sd card and it worked like a charm. Here's what I did:
Install the first mapset to your device using Mapsource, so in your case I would imagine it would be the NA set but it can be either or. Once this is installed on your card, using active sync go to the Garmin folder on the storage card and rename the .img file from GMAPSUPP.img to GMAPSUP2.img. ** Notice that the name is still only 8 characters long **
Now that you've renamed that file, then go ahead and load the other mapset to ur device. Assuming that your maps are unlocked and good to go, you should see 2 img files on ur Garmin folder GMAPSUPP and GMAPSUP2. This should allow you to display both maps at the same time. You can verify the maps are installed by going to Tools--> Manage my data ---> Maps, it should display both sets plus ur base map.
Hope this helps.
This will work only if you copy two different maps, witch were unlocked with one and same map unlock code! If you have two different maps with two unlock codes - you should rename also GMAPSUP2.UNL file to have two working maps.

I tried this with North America and Europe maps (saved to 8Gb card) and it seems to work...I did verify that the maps are installed by going to Tools--> Manage my data ---> Maps, and it displays both sets plus the world-wide base map.
My question is how do I get it to display the second map...
I'm in the US, and I can zoom out and see the North America overall map, but I can't do see the Europe maps at all. I've selected both, and then tried just selecting Europe in the Mapsource menu, but I haven't been able to get the Europe map to display.
Any advice on what I'm missing?
TIA,
Chris
EDIT:: After a restart I was able to get all the maps to display...this is a great trick!!
Thank you.
Glad you got it to work, I havent loaded anything other than the NA maps but now I know that I can load other maps if need be.
not trying to dig up old threads but i'm using tomtom since the start and now want to try garmin
do i purchase mobile xt or city navigator north.america if i want to use it in canada?
and whats the difference between mobile xt vs c.navigator
Mobile xt is the "engine" to run the map. You have to pick North America map. Read more.
so basically city navigator is just the map...and mobile xt is the gps program that will find routes and current location n such. am i correct?
Correct!

Actually, you do not need mapsource for this. All what you need is rename GMAPSUPP.img and GMAPSUPP.UNL to GMAPSUP2.img and GMAPSUP2.unl with active sync and you are good to go.
i've been successfully install 2 different map..and registered in mapset..but it views only the basemap...how can i show the other maps?
I already do what you said..but what comes on the display is only the base map...(GMAPBMAP.IMG)..and i can not see the others i've already loaded on my garmin xt
In your SD card you would have gmapbmap.img as your global base map. For GMXT you can also have gmapsupp.img and gmapprom.img with the corresponding gmapsupp.unl and gmapprom.unl files as necessary. This works for me. I tried gmapsup1.img gmapsup2.img that other boards said would work but my GMXT doesn't load this filename. However, mine can have the global base map plus 2 other maps simultaneously.
Does anyone know what files like "cspeech_NLD.dat" are for?
There are with the 7.20 maps of Western & Central Europe.
Is it perhaps part of the TomTom text-to-speech? Does that work with Navigator when you use one of Loquendo computer voices from e.g. the GO 910?
These files are for the text-to-speech (TTS) part indeed. However, it doesn't seem to work in TT7 for PDA. I would like it to too...
About the cspeech File in TomTom maps
I have searched the Internet quite a bit because I thought about the very same question, but certain information about this topic is very rare - few people know it exactly.
But since this has been always a splinter in my mind I searched for it and found out the following:
the cspeech files are for a text-to-speech feature, which reads street names for example. You can watch a demo at YouTube here.
However, despite some assumptions it works definitely NOT with TomTom Navigator 7, which is the latest Software for PDA (Smartphone, Windows Mobile, etc.). Probably TomTom 8 will do it when it is available for PDAs.
So you might think about deleting these files to safe the ~250 MB (For Western- & Central Europe map) of space.
However many users report crashs without the files so I suggest you to replace them with 0 kB dummy files instead of just deleting them. This seems to work very good.
I uploaded a pack below which contains dummies for all countries. Just pick the ones for the files you have and override your originals. (However you also could make dummies on your own)
Happy navigating!
I hope you don't mind me to dig out this topic again, because I thought it would be very valuable information which is not easy to find in the internet.

thanks man, that is useful
Having found and read the threads I can on the subject, I want to install Tomtom 7 (tt7) on my Diamond (I purchased the phone whilst on a trip to HK and it didn't have it installed), and to hook it up to Tomtom Home on my pc to purchase maps over and above the taster maps.
I've loaded the application cab from a thread on the Kaiser forum (which most people seem to agree is not Warez), and downloaded TT home 2.3 from the tomtom website. Have got the free taster map, but now want to buy more maps. However, I don't seem to be able to get Home to talk to my device.
From reading the threads, it's suggested to move the application from "Intern Gegeugen" (where it installs), to the Program Files folder. However, doing this breaks all the shortcuts.
Can anyone either provide a cab for the application that installs to the right place, or give me some step by step pointers how to get it all working? Would really appreciate the help!
Oh - and should anyone from Tomtom chance upon this post, the sooner you get your website and Home explicitly working for TT7, the faster I'm sure people like me would actually be buying your products- seems you've done the hard part of actually developing the software, just not making it easy for people to buy it right now!
That's interesting about moving the install folder... I haven't tried that. What I did do though was to uninstall Home 2.3 as I encountered the same problem and install Home Navigator 1.5. From there, you can just purchase maps of your choice. You need to link the device to a 'GO' device as they are the only models using version 7 software.
Hope this helps

Place the contents of "Intern Gegeugen" into My Device/Program Files/Navigator on the Diamond. Connect via Activeynch and finf TomTom Navigator.exe in the above folder. Right click, choose create shortcut and paste that shortcut in My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and rename it accordingly.
And after that you can connect with tomtom home 2.3 (for PDA). First you choose your memory location, get an error, go back and your device is connect.
I've just given that a go and moved the install onto the internal storage. It all still seems to work ok. One question though, other than free up the main memory are there any advantages/disadvantages to running the app from internal storage? (i.e. does it run slower from internal storage etc)
I find if you install TomTom 7 on the internal storage, TomTom home 2.3 comes up with an error, installing it the the internal memory TomTom home picks it up fine.
I have tried the above, but still cannot purchase any maps. when I Click on the maps i just get the message 'No Items Available'

same for me! tomtom home recognices my device but can't really communicate with it.
i use the maps i get with me touchcruise/xda orbit2, they are version 6.75.
connected with tomtom home 1, device can get connect. i used the maps from cdrom and could install them. afterwards i activated the map on my device using my product code card, no problem :-D
Only TT home 1.5 is compatible with Navigator.
What I did was upgrade my TT6 maps to the latest then using TT home transfered the maps to the device and installed TT 7 after. works well
I changed TT6 into TT7 and I could use the same maps. All is working fine.
One question:
TT7 does not get a fix, when phone is not on. I found it today, when I use Tomtom in a car about 10 minutes. I stopped and turned phone on, so Navigator 7 got the fix easily.
I have not agps on.
In Artemis I did not find this kind of symtom with Navigator 6.
i have also tomtom 6 with maps from my o2xda2. i've installed the maps from cd over tomtom home 1.5. it installed successfully. but in tomtom 7 on my diamond i can't still use the maps.. they aren't listed in manage maps?! what do i wtong?!
please help
i don't know, i just installed tt7, not 6, then connected it with tomtom 1.5.
put the cd in and i was capable to install the maps.
yeah... i did the same! all fine! but when i start tomtom on diamond i can't change the maps. i only see the demo-map. you can?
yes, i can. i even never installed the demo map. you know that you have to choose/change map in order to see the right one?
yes i know... but there who i can change the map i see only bern (demo-city-map)!!!
Not being a SatNav user I did this
I am not really a big user of SatNav as I read the signs on the road.
However, I am a lover of toys and have always kept a copy of tomtom nearby for fun.
I installed the XDA linked TT7.cab file (11.9mb) and directed it to Internal Storage.
Then I went online and created myself a tomtom account. I went through the maps purchase wizard stating my device was a GO 720 model.
I then purchased the 7.2 Great Britain and NI Map. £29.95 - even by my standards a bargain.
I then downloaded Home 2.3 and connected my Diamond as a disk system.
When the Diamond came up it challenged me to select the location of my product and I chose Internal Storage. It then promptly through up an error message.
I did a back and continued. When I went to MAPS etc it didn't find my map. So I clicked on the Update Pocket PC icon and there was my map.
It didn't take long to download and install (161 MB ish) and now I have a working TT7 with the 7.2 map.
I could also update the Pocket PC with free voices and POI's too from the TomTom website (although I have forgotten the steps just now).
The advantage is that I have a working, reliable, sexy, copy of Tomtom 7.
The negative is that I don't seem to be able to use MAP share. This is not a big deal for me (as I never actually use Sat Nav anyway!). It didn't seem to matter once I had bought the map what I set the device to be - PDA or GO 720.
I hope that this is useful as a legitimate way of getting Tomtom 7 onto your Diamonds...and all for £29.95.
I have done this twice - once for me to play and once for the missus to actually use.
Not a bit of Warez anywhere - for 30 quid why bother with Warez?
All the best,
Sam.
I tried the above method and HOME 2.3 just said that the map i purchased was not an available device for these maps so the checkbox was greyed out...any ideas...maybe they caught on?
need a response please!

No it's not a case of have they caught on. TomTom 7 the application on a PDA is not supported on TOMTOM Home 2.3. You need to use 1.5 . This is beacause at the moment only PNA devices are supported on 2.3
The Maps which you purchace to activate with your device to make the application work have not been released yet for PDA so you have to use backwardly compatible maps . 6.75 etc until you can purchase ver 7 maps
As for Warez the licenceing is with the maps only and not the application which is available to download from TomTom . If you was to load hacked Maps then this is WAREZ as the Licence is with the maps. You can only use your brought maps with one device and that is the device you purchaced it for. Hence you get the activation number from your device as it is device specific.
You cannot if you purchased maps already from a different device use them on another device . This is the License law and you need to purchase new maps every time you cahnge device . You can email TomTom support but they will tell you the same thing.
All maps are 30% cheaper at the moment, because they'll release the new version in the beginning of August.
The 30 price reduction is not for Navigator user as I found out last month.
As for only using the Maps for one device (true in a sense) though I managed to activate via TT home my maps twice on my Trintiy (as the Device ID changed once when I flashed an early ROM and activiate the same product code again for my Diamond - which is indicated on the TTcode website as three activations.
I have purchase new 6.75 maps for my Navigator 6 and know these will work on version 7 once on general release.
I have managed to import the poi's I want but am having to use the default icon's as I can't work out where to put the bmp or png files so that they appear for me to pick. Anyone know?
Are you using Copilot Central to install the POI's, that should let you install the png's as well.
Is your Copilot fully up to date as they broke the import POI's a while ago but have recently fixed it again.
Simpleast way is to
1] Install Copilot
2] Put maps >>> creat a new folder named copilot and within it creat a folder named save , in it put all your unzipped maps.
3]Have wifi or 3G internet connection.
4] Run your installed Copilot on handset and wait and watch screen
No need to perform anything else.
