Hi guys,
I've just gone through a guide on how to unlock my phone, so awesome, Step 1 is done!
Now, with having currently an Orange (UK) based stock rom, I'm looking to get rid of it, and needing to know before I flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519715
What is a Stock Rom?
I'm sorry for the stupid question, and I did search quickly, but nobody has asked this, and all the queries come up are people talking about stock roms.
Thank you,
It's not a stupid question, a Stock ROM is a ROM that is provided by your telecom company or the manufacturer of your phone (Like HTC), so that means a standard ROM without any of the wonderful hacks and additions the guys on this site came up with .
So when you buy a brand new phone the ROM that is on there would be a stock ROM.
Wow, thanks Mad.
Now the problem I have now, is it says "flash stock rom before flashing this", so what should I flash it to first?
I like the look of that rom above you see, and just not sure what to flash it to first.
If you bought your phone from your provider and not
second hand, it will have the stock rom on it, so you would be good to go. Make sure you read the flashing guide, and check radio compatibility with the rom you would like to use.
My preference is to flash with the sd card, rather than a RUU from the desktop. I've had much more success that way.
Good luck and happy flashing!
Criss
Thanks Criss,
How would I backup my stock rom, and radio?
Because a few people who make the Rom's are abroad, I've no way of knowing if the radio's they've used are compatible with my network provider here in the UK.
Whats some things I should look out for?
Thank you,
the search area at the top right hand corner.. Then just type in "how to backup stock rom"
Thats what I would do.
rofl, thanks Chumley.
I've just been lazy and started flashing from my Stock ROM.
Balls to it, hopefully I won't ever need to go back, but nevermind. My mistake and downfall!
I would keep a copy of your providers shipped rom around

You'll need it in case you need to make a warranty claim. You can check with the support section of their website, or the Kaiser Wiki could point you in the right direction.
No warranty on the phone, its secondhand.
I'll have a look to see if there are stock roms available through Orange / HTC for it.
Thanks once again!
The rom loads and looks lovely, shame I cocked up the theme, but i'll sort that out later when I can be bothered!

i have been reading loads and loads on this excellent forum and i have learned so much about unlocking and flashing hard and soft for my kaiser and also about the radio and the problems i can run into and their fixes.
here is the silly question
what rom software should i flash to my phone?
i have read about some of the roms available but i cant see many differances between then because as i can see they are all debranded firmware roms and all that i can see is that some have different applications allready implimented in them, so does it really matter which rom i use or should i just use the newest?
thanks for any suggestions or help in reguards to this

It is very hard to tell someone to use a particular ROM, because each person expects different things out of their phone. The best thing to do is read about each ROM, read the ROM's thread to find out what the Chef has put into their ROM....then pick one and flash away....trying is the only way to find out what is best for you.
Hope that this helps..
i thaught that would be the answer i would get lol but thanks anyway.
does repeatedly reflashing the rom to try the software affect the phone in any bad way at all or is it safe to go ahead and try a few?

I currently have Stylez Black version 2. I just flashed Version 2 last Friday. It is working wonderfully. I had Version 1, since it's release.
Stylez is new to cooking for Kaiser, but he has cooked for Dash. He is also helped other Chefs with their builds.

I have flashed my phone hundreds of times in the last year and a half, with no ill effects. I personally think that all the hard resets associated with flashing have kept my phone clean and running at top form.
Since most roms are cooked using the same basic kitchens and from the same M$ builds, the basic structure is the same. Some cooks cook for stability, some for speed, some for super storage and some to just constantly push the limit of possibilities.
After a while, flashing will be like changing themes. Look at them all and find one that suits you needs and flash away, you can always change it if you want more or less in a rom.
hello i am sort of a noob on flashing phones, i just got my T-MOBILE Touch Pro 2, im very pleased with it, i downloaded the EURO WM 6.5 and..3G wouldnt work..and my keyboard mapping was wrong, i switched back to TMO Stock ROM, now i am look for the best stable fast running fun ROM,
ive seen many impressive ROMS outhere, but again im a noob, iam looking for a ROM that supports TMO 3G as in CoralSprings FL i have full 3G signal, please i would really appriciate your help, thanks in advance..
It all depends on what you install and what you use your phone way. Best way to find out is to read ROM threads, and flash and enjoy. Just make sure you have HardSPL before you flash custom ROM.
Mate I'm a complete noob as well.....
You just posted the same thread two days ago.
People posted help there.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572868&highlight=tmobile+keyboard
now go here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550559&highlight=tmobile+keyboard
It has all the T-mobile keyboard fixes.
Now you can use any ROM you like.
Don't ask people for the "best" or "most stable" ROM. Cause nobody knows what "the best" or "most stable ROM" is. It will depend on your own personal taste and situation. Give 'em a try and find something you like.
Oh and finally. I started on the Touch Pro 2 a couple of days ago. Had never used a WINMO phone before, never flashed, applied a cab, or anything. Although I've managed to do all of the above with a bit or "searching" and reading of this forum. Use the "Search" tool, it's excellent. And only ask a question if you've searched and searched and searched and still can't find the answer.
Best of luck
HDSPL then flash them all and you will find one that fits for you.
ikno guys, i already hardspl, but idont want to keep flashing and flashing, but yea isee what you guys mean, im downloading the energy rom, looks pretty cool, and alot support for TMO users,
thanks for ur response.

No problem, that's the way to start and that's how we all started.
ooo yeah i had 4gten bout that post, sorry,
so i also read that the 3G depends on ur radio, can u guys help with that? please,
I haven't heard about that because my 3G worked right out the box with stock radio.
But I have the latest HTC and it seems to be working real well. Also read positive posts about it so give it a try.

BTW, their is NO WAY to return back to the stock radio once you flashed a new radio. UNTIL someone finds a way to release it to us.
wel mine too, but when i had the custom rom, it didnt work.
Please find your own ROM, today's best might nott be tomorrows best, and you might not like what someone else likes.

Ok, i have rooted my nexus one and im really not feelin the whole sense UI rom. So i would like to go back to the stock Nexus one Rom it shipped with. I just need to know how to get back to the stock rom. I know i cant relock the bootloader im not worried about that. If i can get someone to explain how to do this i would greatly appreciate it.
wrong forum.
but, download the original shipping image. its on modaco and flash with amon_ra recovery.
You mean you didn't do a Nandroid backup after rooting and installing the recovery image? :O

If you don't like Sense UI, why not check out CyanogenMod. It's the same look and feel as the stock ROM, but with a bunch of extra tweaks and good stuff goin' on. Link here
Here are a few links that will lead you to some ROMs you can try out before deciding on going back to stock You'll be surprised how good they work. You just have to pick what works best for you... Good Luck and Enjoy!!!!

My favorite setup at the moment is BakedGoods with the UC/UV kernel. Definitely worth trying out.
Moved as not Android Development.
Hey!
Now I've finally gotten my Incredible S, and so far I'm happeh with it.
But, I like to try new things and Sense 3.0 looks way cooler, better, smarter and everything and I've searched the forums and google for some answers but seems like no one have asked before...
3; (this one has nothing to do with Sense, but I still want to know...) Which official ROM RUU's from the collection thread are the European version? All those numbers and **** makes absolutely no sense at all. On the ones from Asia it says (pretty clear...) "ASIA", but from Europe I can't find anything that says the ROM is from Europe...
And by my first question I mean if it's worth doing the precedure for S-off and flash new radio (seems like that's something you have to do...) and all that.
And before someone rages; YES, I'm a noob. This is my first HTC device, and my old phone didn't have a locked bootloader so everything was so much easier and therefore I had to think less.
Thanks in advance! Hopefully someone can make me a bit smarter.
(EDIT; changed topic name and my first and second question are kinda solved for my case, now I just need to know about those damn RUU's .___.)
Hi guy,
I flashed a sense 3.0 rom (Virtuous Unity) and now i'm really happy with it. I was really anoyed by the lockscreen not so locked when you keep your phone in your pocket.
For the alarm clock i don't know as I don't use it.
Finally for S-Off that was pretty easy using alpharevx.
Hope this help.

Thanks for your reply
Well, I've gotten an answer from a friend and there's two buttons now to press instead of sliding down for turning off the alarm, and press a mini-button to snooze.
About the alpharevx, it is nothing to be worried about?
I was looking forward to a way to S-OFF my phone since I got it.
When the first beta of alpharevx was out i stayed tune and until now i never read about a bricked phone. So i would say it's pretty safe.
The only thing you have to think about is warranty void.
PS: You're welcome for the answer
Well, flashing an official ROM makes the phone S-On again (if I understand everything correctly) so that would not be a problem, I have an SD-card somewhere here if I need to make a goldcard ^^
And you don't happen to know which RUU that I should flash if I want an European ROM?
Wouldn't be so funny for me if I find a ROM without English... :/
As soon as I can find out which ROM that's from Europe and which ROM that's from Austria, I'd be a little bit less nervous about this whole thing...
Anyway, thanks for your help! Seems like using alpharevx is pretty safe, so I think I might do this anyway
Nop, don't know anything about official ROM codification.
Also interested to know if someone can explain.
Hopefully someone might answer to that question!
But, thanks for your help! Now I'm gonna have an internal fight in my mind to see if I'm man enough or not...

WWE = World Wide English. As far as I know that's the edition used for Europe.

And that means that any official ROM with WWE in the name and it doesn't say "Asia", then it is an European?
Sorry for asking such a dumb question, but I just want to make sure
If someone's wondering; I finally got my finger out of my ass and S-Off'd successfully on my 3rd try.
took a couple of tries before I succeed to flash recovery (pretty different procedure from what I'm used to...) but now I'm backing up my current ROM and I'm going to flash virtuousomething like that, wish me luck!
Now, let this thread die in peace. I've gotten my answers (kinda, but good enough for me) so I'm happy.
Thanks all for your answers, and I've never been this nervous in my life...
Which operator
Ok, so we know what WWE means. How do you know what operator and specific country it is for.
I am looking for the original Vodafone UK ROM.

The WWE ROMs are not operator or country specific. As far as I am aware, no network in the UK ever released a branded ROM for this phone as it's only ever been sold by third parties (Carphone Warehouse being the main one) and never directly from the networks themselves.
I use the Virtuous Unity 1.29.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid and i'm satisfied.
Well, good for you...
I just have to ask you though... what, exactly, does that have to do with this topic?
Sent from a dumb phone
So I got my phone last December and within a month, had it rooted - mainly to get rid of bloatware. I was using Cognition ROM at first, but then a guy at an ATT authorized retailer showed me a different rom that unlocked HSPA. The ROM that he gave me, which I later installed using ROM manager has the filename: KILLER23D+XXJPUDoc_V4.0_wipe. Has there been an update to this ROM? I love everything about it and am also wondering if there are any ROMs that are any better than this? I'm still pretty new at using the xda website and forums...
I like to tinker around, but am still afraid of bricking my phone. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys for all the hard work you all do.
p.s. I noticed my phone now thinks it is the Galaxy S GT-I9000... so would I download new ROMs for that phone or the Captivate?
Killer23d's out off date. it hasn't been updated since 11th December 2010. Their are many great 2.2 and 2.3 roms in the development section. Take a look around , you should be able to find one that is to your pleasing. Read the authors instructions and be sure you understand them before you flash anything
Be sure to read the Stickies they tell you about installing rom and other good stuff that you should know. And search around if you have any questions before you post, cause it might have been already answered.
And if you have a captivate you download captivate roms
good luck
I guess I really want to know which ROM is most like official 2.2 or 2.3? I definitely want to make sure I can still install unknown apps, and have the stock alarm clock on the phone because I use the alarm all the time and I don't want to have to download another one from the market. Do you have any preferences on ROMs that would do all this?
I also am a little confused on the ODIN stuff. Since I'm already rooted and using ROM Manager to flash ROMs, do I always need to flash ODIN before installing a new ROM? I read on here somewhere that the author metioned something about that, but how it was worded was a little confusing
I don't refer roms to people it is all personal choice. All roms can install off market apps
for roms in general* http:////forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
*2.3 roms need gb bootloaders
