I'm using the HTC Diamond.
Today I received an sms and I couldn't get into the message to read it, so I decided to turn off my phone, and turn it back on again – I did the soft reset (pressing the power button on the top of the phone and not the instant soft reset button). I have done this before and it worked after that.
However, after I turned on the phone again today, the smses I received and sent since 23/07/2009 have disappeared.
I also checked the most recent call history and it's there – so it's not as if the phone decided to backdate itself.
Has this happened to anyone else? I would like to retrieve those missing smses (at least the ones I received) if I could. Is there a particular directory that the phone stores these smses?
Help would be much appreciated!
If you receive an SMS and soft reset the phone, the new SMS gets lost. You have to wait a few minutes (or hours?) to get it actually saved to the device. I believe it is due to some caching mechanism that the new mesages are not written to storage immediately. This is a poor design decision but we have to live with it.
As for losing older sms' I don't know what could be the problem. Maybe you restarted the device just in the instant it was flushing the cache to the storage and the data got corrupted?

Hi guys,
New here as I just got a Diamond this week. All good until last night/today where all of a sudden I can no longer use the SMS function.
I think it all started last night. Strange thing happened when I got home from work and I plugged it into my PC to sync. At first it said it was unable to connect, so I tried disconnecting and reconnecting a couple times, still no connection. So I tried turning the phone off and back on, then reconnecting and this time it connected ok and synched up.
However, when I checked my phone after synching, it had somehow lost all of my favourite contacts list (although all my contacts were still there, thankfully) and even more worryingly, had deleted all of my SMS messages. Luckily I've only had the phone a few days so didn't lose any important messages.
At first I thought it had somehow hard reset itself because it has already done this once before, but all the other settings were still in place. Just my SMS messages and favourite contacts lise were lost.
That in itself wasn't too big a deal, but today it seems to have got worse. I recieved an SMS this morning, but I'm unable to open it (can read it in the preview), nor can I open the 'all messages' option. Even worse I can't write new messages. When I press on any of the options on the SMS front screen, nothing happens.
Also, several of the apps I've installed no longer run, they display the error "The file 'AdvancedConfig' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file". That example is for Advanced Config. I also have Diamond Tweak and Diamond TF3D Config installed and they have the same problem now, too.
Up unil last night, everything was fine, I had turned on some of the tweaks within the above config tools (the battery life and performance tweaks mainly), but last night it all seems to have fallen apart.
I've tried soft resetting, uninstalling and reinstalling the Tweak apps above, all to no avail, so before I do a hard reset, I thought I'd see if any of you guys had any suggestions (as you seem to be a knowledgable lot ).
Thanks in advance.
About a week ago I hit delete and let it do its work over night since it was going to take forever.
First off, my Tilt only deleted the messages in the inbox, not the outbox. Then a few days later I reset my phone to check something, then ALL my text messages were back, and all of the texts that I've sent/gotten in between were gone.
Is there a certain way I'm suppose to delete this stuff?
I don't know how that happened, and I cannot think of any kind of special procedure to deleting SMS messages. What happens if you just delete like 10 at a time? Does that work?
Dave
Well the thing about that, I have over 20,000 text messages stored on my phone hah.. So doing 10 at a time would just take wayyy too long.
Whenever I hit my soft reset button, all my text messages from that day to a couple days before are gone. It's kinda weird and I don't quite understand it. But yeah, I'm just trying to figure out a way where I can delete them all to where they won't come back hah. Who ever thought it'd be so hard.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?
I can't view MMS messages now because it tells me to clear more space. I've deleted several large size mms messages off of my phone, on top of a grip of text messages to clear space, but it hasn't cleared anything. How can I fix this?
Hard-Reset
I had the same problem on my T-Mobile MDA...never did figure it out. But whenever I deleted them, they always came back. I haven't tried deleting all my texts on the Tilt yet.

I think unpredictable things start to happen when you have upwards of 20000 messages.
The other week my phone crashed and i had to hard reset it because it was carrying 47000 SMS messages, i think the problem i had was the SMS datbase corrupted when i as attempting to delete my biggest thread, with well over 6 months of messages in it.
So yeah, backup your messages if you want them and hard reset, and id try to not let messages get higer than 15000, just so the phone has space to breathe
I have the same problem with msgs that return mysteriously on my ATT tilt running the factory (att) default rom. The first time I tried it I had around 5000 msgs and I ended up having to hard reset. Right now I have around 15,000 msgs and still have the same problem (obviously haha). I'm probably gonna upgrade my rom anyway, but I just figured I'd let you know you're not the only one (and not crazy haha).

Hello, over the last few days, my Diamond's being doing something very strange and seriously annoying:
All of a sudden, my handset began to perform sluggishly, and eventually hanging, meaning I had to reset.
After this, the handset had returned to factory settings (apart from the internal storage card) and required setting up as new.
Once I'd set the phone up again, re-installing all my usual programs, the phone worked as normal for around 6 hours, then the same thing happened.
I've installed a new ROM, and had the same trouble. The phone isn't completely unusable when symptoms start (I can still send and receive texts and make calls) but I can't use any installed programs such as Opera etc.
The way the phone acts feels similar to when a PS harddrive begins to develop bad sectors etc.
Anyone had similar problems and been able to fix without having to send the phone away? Somehow I don't think my operator would repair it!
Thanks for any help.

Guys, I have searched and searched for the answer to this question and I've gotten close, but haven't found an answer. There has to be a way, I just know it.
So, I know that this phone (HTC Touch Diamond) has the ability to save SMS messages, because there are still some there when I turn on the phone. Great! BUT, sometimes when I reboot the phone (either just turning it on and off or having to do a soft reset after a freeze) recent messages (both SMS and Email) are missing. The span of time often varies.
WHY? And how can I prevent this?
I've seen several solutions that mention saving them to my PC, but I'm so often away from it when this happens. And I can't predict when it's going to freeze.
Is there any way to increase the time interval for when it "permanently" saves/commits these messages to memory? I feel certain from what I read that it has to do with RAM and ROM but I'm just so tired from searching that I can't even see straight anymore...
PLEASE HELP! It frustrates me to no end...
Thanks!
Bump? Bueller? Bueller?
Nothin? Has no one else had this problem? Should I just get a new phone?
Hi, I don't know if we have the same problem, but I recently am also losing my text messages after soft resetting my diamond. I tried backing up to my PC and also Microsoft My phone, but I still want to find out what's wrong with my device... I thought it's supposed to be virtually unlimited memory for SMS
It's not a problem of memory, WM doesn't save the messages instantly when you receive, the only trick i can provide to you it's to open your inbox (SMS Tab > All messages), and wait a few seconds (5-10), and Soft-reset.
Only do it if you have received a SMS 5min ago max, of course.
i had the same problem, deleted all my messages (also concepts) and this solved the problem
I have had my Galaxy S for almost 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it until yesterday. The phone ran out of battery and turned off. When i came to charge it and reboot lots of things had changed and it had gone all funny
All of the aps have been reordered and moved although they seem to have kept their data.
I also noticed that all of my sms messages and contacts had been deleted except a few that were saved to my sim. I also lost all of the details from my calender,.
I have also discovered that whilst i can make calls, send and recieve SMS messages i am unable to recieve any calls with most of them being diverted to answer phone or being met with an engaged tone even when i'm not using the phone. I have checked all the call settings/network settings etc.... But having looked in the settings, about phone, status view, it is no longer picking up the phone number, and the mobile network state is – disconnected, not sure if that has something to do with it.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?! Would a factory reset fix it?
I should also add that when you press the power button, there is now only one option, to turn the phone off, whereas before there were options for flight mode, sound etc., also, the main middle button no longer takes you out of aps without closing them, which is also a real pain!
Thanks in advance.
