1) You posted in the wrong forum. How is this post in way Android Development?
2) Learn to use periods. It's hard to understand what you are trying to say.

Shaji... 1st off how is your little brother using a "bricked" phone? If it is bricked it can't be used let alone have the ROM updated to the Hero ROM's. Also there are several threads over in the " Dream android development " that should provide you with PLENTY of information that you seek... good luck with T-Mobile...
peace
...tell T-Mobile you got an OTA update and phone never booted past the first screen after. You're phone is bricked ,get a new one.

I did the same thing the night Haykuro came out with all his new stuff for that. I flashed SPL before radio, but I was able to fix it. I'll pull up the email I worked out with him, PM me for it.
Disconnect usb, take out the battery and plug it back it, connect usb, boot the phone into the recovery mode, go to the console.
Enter then type this: echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
You now can access to ur sdcard from your computer, download a rom, change it to "update". Reboot the phone again, now try to wipe and install the update. After you install the update, flash the radio first, then the SPL. Let me know how it works out for you.
thanks for all the information people
@shaji007 Your post is quite confusing, can you tell us what you did in order? Can the phone get in to recovery (power+home) or the bootloader (power+camera)?
@phuthanvinh If you brick you can't get in to recovery.
@lukekirstein You know how to bring bricked G1's back to life? This I gotta see...
right basiclly
i followed the guide how to downgrade root n hack etc
did all that
then upgraded to one of JF builds
then i was going to install the hero ports that have been flying around
however this is my fault i wasnt really concentrating and i upgraded the spl before the radio
so yea its bricked on there
i just thought xda might have a way of fixing it back up
getting it replaced with t-mobile is of course no problem but i dont want to go through the hassle

Right, yeah, you're screwed. Just tell tmo that the update bricked it, but don't say bricked, just act dumb
I wouldn't hold out much hope for lukekirstein's unbrick method that no one has over heard about before...
Hi
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod says
DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS unless you've followed the previous steps on this page (or if you manually flashed your radio with the LATEST version). Otherwise, you WILL brick your phone.

So does brick really mean brick? It cannot be repaired? I once heard only DangerSPL can do that.
Tell us more.
Thanks,

That's exactly what it means. If you don't know what you're doing, you will brick your phone. Completely. Especially if you don't update your radio. Just like you can brick your phone if you put in a wrong radio for your device, or a wrong spl for that matter.
Any time you flash the radio or SPL there is the potential for something to go wrong and possibly cause a brick, even if you meet all the requirements, buuuut as long as the SPL requires the radio you're on and you don't play hot potato while it's flashing you should be fine. Brick means it's dead, the nand needs to be reflashed at the factory or you can replace the motherboard yourself (containing the nand).
Yep, I've bricked a G1 before. I don't remember exactaly what I did, I think I flashed the same Hard SPL twice, and bam. Brick. Luckily enough it as within the 14 days return period of buying it, and I was able to get my money back and buy another.

This is what NOT to do
I already installed HardSPL once. Now I am going to from CM back to original Firmware and back since I made some mistakes with apps2sdcard. Will my HardSPL remain? If not that would mean that the orinigal SPL would be reinstalled does it not? In that case the chance of bricking would be there again?

SPL and radio are independant of the ROM. So, no.
So my HardSPL could remain forever and I will always get the joy of backing up my phone and will never have to fear a brick because of a new SPL?
Im just a user no developer. I just want to do regular stuff with my phone and use CM. Are there any situations where I still have to change the SPL?

You will have to change if you want a Hero ROM. There should be no reason to update the SPL
Just be careful upgrading either SPL or Radio. Read up to make sure it wont cause a brick for sure.
i was rooting a friends g1, i missed a step n tried flashing a rom without having the danger spl installed first, i cant get into my spl menu by holding camera and power nor can i get into my recovery nor can i get into adb... my phone turns on and stays at the g1 logo... any advice?
bricked.. look in the development section for un-bricking guides... although it'll cost some money i think.. i'll look for one myself and post back with a link

Just because the phone is rooted doesn't mean it is magical and can't be bricked. You have to have the latest radio before you can flash the danger SPL. Depending on which method you used(likely RC29 method) that radio would not be anywhere close to what is needed. And, yes, once you flash the danger SPL without the newest radio, you have a brick and no way getting back from it.
Hopefully your friend is understanding and it isn't a major disaster getting a replacement G1 for him.
Flash Danger SPL without Latest Radio = Bricked.
I hope that your friend can get a replacement without much complications, because that one is screwed.
You could give him your phone...
the phone already had the newest radio installed... it was a brand new G1.. =X did i still have to flash it with the radio on this forums?

Most likely yes usually when something is brand new it was manufactured months ago. Its unlikely that it included the proper radio. try blaming your friend lol good luck!

Brand new or not, most every root method has you downgrade to RC29, which takes you back to a radio that is about a year old now.
I just got a new phone because my old one's touchscreen broke, I tried to root it and it wasn't working...so i installed the danger spl cause i figured it'd let me install fasttest3.0. Now...I'm stuck at the g1 screen and I can't get to recovery by home and power nor fastboot from power and camera...This phone is bricked and there's nothing I can do right?

Look on the bright side, with 2 bricks you have the beginnings of a nice wall.
Presumably, the one with the broken touchscreen has a good mainboard, right?
I think you can guess where I'm going with this, right?
If you didn't turn the old one in, that is. Swap boards and you should be good.
Ha, I raped t-mobile for a free replacement. Hoooooly that was a joke. Too bad I have to wait 4 days for a new one.
Do you know what board is your phone? PVT or DVT?
What radio were you on when you flashed the Danger SPL?
What steps did you take when you flashed the Danger SPL?
You said you tried to root your phone and it didn't work. What exactly did you do to root your phone?
lbcoder and I were having a discussion in another thread whether the Danger SPL is safe to flash and you could possibly be our answer.

I'm thinking since he got the phone from T-Mo that it was a refurb and I'm assuming when they refurb phones they set them back to stock and when you boot it you receive the latest updates. Im going to guess that he did not update the radio before flashing but how could he even flash the SPL with out having root in the first place? Hopefully he answers your question.

Hi everyone really sorry for opening a new thread for a G1 brick.
My G1 has stuck at the T-Mobile screen and on pressing Camera+Power i cant get into fastboot to restore using the .nbh file.
I am not able to get into recovery using power+home key also.
There has to be a way to get my dream back....
please please please help
JTAG or go for a replacement. I'm guessing it's a DangerSPL brick, right?
Danger SPL
Yes dude....
i have done this so many time.....
this time i forgot to update the radio first and this is stuck....
Someone should have a solution for this....
I read many thread which say use it as a paperweight...
I am not loosing hope....
XDA Member will have some solution.....
Maybe you should try to keep current on developments.
There is NOT A SINGLE REASON to use the deathspl.
As for your "poll"... what do you expect to learn from something like this? Do you realize that any numbers you get will be completely MEANINGLESS?

Sure there is as its one if the few full engineering spls. And I don't think your latest development will ever be quite as user friendly (however some more configuration it will be very close)
The real user friendly fix/patch for 1.33.2005 (those that know what they are doing can decide if any benifit of the spl exists) is an assertion statement in the recovery script to check the radio version is not one of the two common 1.x ones.
(the evil patch is to make the assertion somehow also autoinstall the lattest Rogers e911 patched rom if the user has the 1.x radio. Because atm the rogers rom appears to be very safe from the user messing up the boot chain.. actually we may need to "perfect" the spl a bit more I think it will let us erase hboot)
I am still a newb to the android scene - and do believe I as well made the same mistake - and have bricked my G1.
If eveything I've read is accurate, I can purchase a donor phone - broken screen, or other issues - so long as the mother board is still good.
Swap out the new mother board for the bricked one, and have a working phone again - right ?
Have an opportunity on a donor phone - have no issues pulling phones apart, and putting them back together
But just want to make sure I understand the basics
Thanks in advance for any replies
Motherboard only option ?
Is replacing the motherboard the only option left ?
I am not sure i would be able to do that
Worst day of my life i screwed up big time
Any help is appreciated.
Some tool to recover back to original.
I can understand there is no way to repair as I am not able to get into recovery nor fastboot so cant adb also...
youtube
i checked the below video bt this is kinda a complicated and nt a solution for me

There is no tool to get it back except by the options listed above. If you are not going to switch the mobos in the G1 then you won't be able to do the other option either. There is no software that can bring your G1 back after a deathspl.

hey,
i had the same prob.
only thing,
mine bricke in cause of a radio update,
i tried all which was in my head,
and all i can do
but after some nights spending to my phone i found this:
i copied my nand backup to root of sd,
and connected it to pc
first he told me, device not known
so i tried to boot the modified recovery,
and *tada* i was in recovery mode,
plz try and tell me if it fix your problem,
for mine it did
best regards,
psycho
Mine is also due to radio update dude, before flashing spl the radio has to be flashed i and forgot to do that.
Will try out your suggestion, just hoping that it work and my g1 is back to life.
Ne ways appreciate your suggestion.
Please let me know if you were able to get into recovery mode prior to putting the files on the sd card.
And if you could tell me the list of files (if u had nething other then the nand update) which you put on the sd card, i can replicate the exact process.
Thanks,
Chinmay
Hope
Is there any hope to get the G1 back to life from the Death SPL Brick ?
You should read instructions carefully man. Its not that hard. You should always verify that you have a compatible radio before flashing DangerSPL.
There is a method to recover your device and it involves a lot of time and patience. Google "JTAG".
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
"JTAG".
me too, my G1 Bricked (Not able to fastboot). but i wanna know if the JTAG method work 100%.please.
