Does your SD have a linux swap partition? If it does, that's the problem. I use to have live chat, but I started having that same problem after I partitioned my SD. LC isn't really compatible with the newer ROM's
i have linux swap and NEVER have problems like that....
possibly format your card a redo EVERYTHING (fat32,ext2/3/4,Swap)
sometimes (not saying you did =] ) stuff just gets screwed up. making partitions, using parted to linux-swap-itize(yes i just made that word up.... it'll catch, believe me lol)
and your sd card really isnt built for this type of abuse.
I also have the same problem with Hello IM when i go to change my avatar is says "SD Card is not mounted properly.", This is only started happening after the 2nd to last update i received. I always have to go into Hi AIM, change my icon through there then sign off and log back into Hello AIM.

32MB is a good size. Larger, and you'll get instability. Yes, it is safe to make your ext3 with Paragon. And yeah, you can upgrade an ext2 to ext3 using Cyanogen's Recovery Image if you don't make it ext3 in Paragon.

I've heard a random report or two of people using big swaps, but general experience (personal, plus other users chiming in here) is that as the swap gets bigger, the stability goes down. The system may be fast in the beginning, but as junk collects in your swap it will get laggy.
Honestly, I'm still on 24MB.. Left 32MB of space but only started with 24MB, and it runs fine for me. Keeps my browser in memory when I go reply to a text, that's what I worry about.
I followed the exact steps from this forum and everything went smooth, but why is it that i only have 20 mb of free phone memory left after doing a new hero rom flash using jachero 2.7.4, is the apps automatically save to sd, cause if they are i dont think they are saving to the sd card, also do i have to do a linux swap or something like that to make this phone run faster, please help me people.

hero rom is much bigger then the normal G1 rom that is why you are seeing the lag. What is the size of your linux swap and what is your swappiness set to?

well the little room after flash is probably due to the sdcard NOT setup right... I had that build before and the before and so on and the space I had every time was 84mb free after boot and YES the appstosd on this build is automatic. The sdcard should have the fat32 partition first and then the ext2 partition 2nd. To setup the partitions I would NOT use ubuntu .. I ran into mounting issues with gparted .. I have had NO issues with the sdsplit found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3582509&postcount=52
set the 2 partitions first and then setup the linux-swap partition using ubuntu .. I had mine inbetween the fat32 and the ext2 .. and YES you NEED the swap partition in the 2.7.4 build as it no longer uses swapper.

Goodbye to 80% of the members then lol. just keeding. I think people just need to learn how to read the first post of each thread they read. I recommend setting min/max cpu freq to 528, and having linux-swap of 32MB at 20 swappiness. @ demoyo, make sure you have your partitions at the least in this order:
FAT32/EXT3
or if you want a linux-swap:
FAT32/EXT3 (1.5GB or less) /Linux-Swap (32 to 64MB)
The 20MB free internal memory is signaling that your apps to sd isn't working properly, which probably mean you didn't partition your sdcard correctly.

You don't use the Swapper app anymore. As long as you have a linux-swap partition done correctly it is automatic. You can however change the swappiness settings in /system/bin/a2sd (it is the number in echo 30 > ...)

Ideally you need an ext and linux-swap partitions, but if you don't want to for whatever reason you can just install the "Swapper" app from the market. A linux-swap partition is much better but this is the next best thing.

Well said. ANother note is that if you are using the stock 1gb card then you will not notice much speed improvement no matter what you do because of having such a slow SD card. I would not recommend and thing less than a class 4 (Class 6 is the fastest).
If you plan on staying with the stock card you should probably look into another ROM.
I'm coming from JACHero and I want to install Cyanogen's 3.6.8.1. I wiped and then flashed the update, and than when my phone rebooted it showed JACHero's ROM there still. What's the problem?

Never heard of that before, try wiping, rebooting and see if it hangs at the G1 screen. If it does, then pull the battery, boot into recovery, then flash the update.

Yeah hmm lemme try to connect it to my computer and put the update on it again.
Ah I figured out why, my computer isn't actually putting the update on my phone even though it says it is copied to my phone. I know this because when I plugged my phone back up it shows the original JACHero update.zip and not the one I just downloaded. Anyone know how to fix this? I am running Windows Vista and I installed the USB Drivers.

Format the card in Vista (back up your stuff first!) and just copy over the Cyanongen update.zip then wipe 'n flash
Also format your Ext is you have one..
Thanks I'll try that. And my card won't format for some reason, I always get too many primary partitions or something along those lines.
EDIT
Whenever I press format, it says there is no removable disk and I have to keep mounting my phone even though it was mounted >_>..

Nah it will format to FAT32, but not ext2. And for some reason Vista won't format the card it keeps saying it was removed.

Easier but not as beneficial for someone who doesn't even know how to partition a card. Trust me I don't sit there and do everything in terminal neither... but... I know how if I had to and I think it's the right way. Also... I was not about to instruct someone to install a recovery just to partition a card.

Good to know you got it done.
I didnt get it done. Apps are still taking up memory from both the phone and sd..????
My sd memory from the partitioned portion has only gone down From 447MB to 352 MB
And my phone memory is at 281MB
I deleted some things already, correct me if Im rong, but there should be no internal storage being used right?
Have you dumped your caches? That is the main culprit for me when my internal phone memory gets low...
yes I did...but like I said if apps are going to sd then they should not be taking internalk memory
I guess I see what you are saying... I have the same issue... I just thought it was the name of the game...
do you have adb? if not, you should set it up. you can view the directories on your phone and see where apps really are for sure. i think root explorer in the market will allow you to see it to, but it's a paid app. adb is something you should have either way.
I had 55MB / 89MB left on my g1 running the newest cm.
went into the application settings, then manage applications. Went down to GMAIL and Browser and cleared cache and data.
Now my memory is:78MB / 89MB
Okay, it's irritating. try googling but it is not even a search result or probably I'm a dumb.
I got pissed right now. After try an android on X1 and feel I like it, it's stucked at somewhat. So I soft reset it and now when log in to WinMo it asked me to format the SD Card, after i try it. the SD is till not detected.
Then plug USB Cable but still the computer just sound beep twice and show none in my Computer.

"Please" would have been a nice addition here
Not sure what you might have messed up with Android, but to check the SD there's only two options:
get a new one and try again or
get yourself a µSD reader of any kind, shouldn't be too expensive
BTW: You say you installed Android and after soft reset you are in WinMo again? That doesn't sound like really having "installed" Android to me - might be an idea to post your question where you got whatever you installed on your phone to get the Android feeling.....

I'm sorry 'please' has several meaning in my culture. My culture prohibit a girl to ask 'please' to anonymous. If that word helpful, okay, please help me.
English isn't my language so you might interpret what I want to say wrongly.
Android is installed and I had run it for days. Once upon time, in the middle of proccessing something, it stuck so I did a soft reset. Then I boot into Windows Mobile (not Android) -DualBOOT- and Windows Mobile ask me to format microSD Card but after it is formatted, the card is invisible. update: I borrow my friend's an imported SD Card, microSD is detected but the computer ask to insert in it.

dualBoot was the missing detail for me.....
Purely guessing as I am not an Android expert:
Were you able to boot into WinMo before that "crash"?
Were you able to boot into Android after the crash?
Can Android handle FAT32 formatted cards?

Yes no problem before. I'm not sure how my card formatted but it's original coming from the package.
Try to format SD card in computer with FAT32.
For dual boot you have make partition formated with Ext2 right? What prograd did you use for partitioning of SD? Minitool partition? Try to delete partitions used for Android.

You should know that in X1 port Android, There are two types of releases: ones with ext2 partition and ones without. And I think this girl have android without EXT2 partition. Anyway question if Android can detect is is pretty lame, no offense, I think if the Storage Card isn't working how can you run the Android...
Don't you read that the card isn't detected. It's pretty clear, our problem that the card isn't even detected from OS File Explorer. How can that ur suggested software can detect it?
Hi VSJ, I want to update you. I've asked my friend w/o lucky and bring the card to SESC, I can assure you that SE won't guaranty SD Card.
Thank you for trying to help me.
Since the problem is occurred to many people, I dunno think that the Android only killed mine. I'm giving up. I think it's over a hardware issue.
The developer of the android also has no idea why the problem can be occurred.
