Opera Mobile with Chinese - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have CE Star 2.8 installed on my device. It works really well accept in Opera Mobile. When the web page first loads, the Chinese characters will be displayed. However, when the whole web page has loaded, the Chinese characters will disappear and everything turns into square blocks
I've searched around on this forum and Google and there seems to be no easy solution. Is anyone having the same problems?

Anyone know an Internet browser for viewing Chinese Characters

I have tried using Opera mini to see Chinese characters on the Tilt, it does not work. I have a Chinese character font installed on my device that came with a Chinese dictionary. Does anyone know a browser that will enable me to see Chinese characters? How about Opera Mobile or Netfront, anyone know?
Thanks
Opera mini can show Chinese characters because it's server side rendering browser. Unless the server has chinese character plugin, it definately can't show chinese character.
Since you have chinese character font installed. Any local rendering browser should be able to show chinese characters.

If you can see Chinese characters with IE you can see them in Opera Mini, since all of Opera's fonts, except small, uses the system fonts.
Remember, you need something CE-Star installed that is a system wide for any character support to begin with.
You can do this in PIE

Its 9.5
.. and I am still not able to change its default browser status. Opera site informs that Activex and flashplayer is disabled in this version which may be the reason for some problems.

skyfire on diamond

today i read a news about a new upcoming browser named skyfire.
and what i am asking me: when the open beta comes to my country and i install it on my diamond... can i change the default browser für touchflo3d?
here is a version i tried using. only half the screen is skyfire and the other half is today screen. check it out. maybe it works for you.
Skyfire is a pretty good web browser for mobile phones. It was apparently found to be the fastest - mostly because it renders the pages from a central server.
I believe you have to register with them to fully use the software (you need a Skyfire account).
Also, there is a new release, but it still does not support VGA devices yet.

yes but can i change the default browser in touch flo 3d?
maybe in some time no one wants to use opera and all want to use skyfire.
seemts that its just a simple shortcut to change.
Skyfire is not compatible to VGA right now.
I tried out Skyfire on my diamond and there is a workaround the half screen problem. Other than the fact that flash works, i don't think it is better than Opera 9.5 at least not until a VGA version comes out.
I uninstalled Skyfire and now I have the problem where PIE is now my default browser instead of Opera. Whenever I tap on a link on my rss reader or email, it goes to PIE by default. Is there a way to change my default browser back to opera?
Just Re-run the WM_6_HTC_PPC_Opera9.cab in your windows directory, and it will re-install Opera and fix the link issues. Your bookmarks, history and other browsing data will not be harmed.
Skyfire 0.85 is out, with VGA support. Just tried it and it works like a dream on my Diamond, even able to watch top gear on iPlayer with it.
Hi,
Installed on my MDA Compact and it works well. However, it won't connect using wifi.
Any solutions?
Regards

I just downloaded it too and mananged to get a video playing from the iPlayer but I don't get any sound. Did you have any issues with sound at all?
(I'm on Dutty's V3.2 ROM)
To answer another question the latest version works on VGA but allegedly not on WVGA so Touch HD users may be disappointed. You can download it here http://get.skyfire.com/ and yes, Skyfire asks you if you want to make it the default browser.

Maybe... but uninstalling it even when it's not default resets your default browser to PIE. Which sucks.
i cannot download it,has anybody have vga cab?
Just open http://get.skyfire.com/ in your mobile browser, you'll get to download the cab directly from the phone!
i have opened it 100 times but i cant download,it always get me back to getskyfire.com.

This is because unlike PIE/Opera Mobile, skyfire downloads the webpage on a regular pc, then sends you "an image" of the website, in a low quality.
So it's not actually that fast, zooming and panning are weak on it.

You can get flash in opera mobile
Check the developments and hacking forum on XDA, it's near the top.
Look for Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 and a compatible Opera build =]

Viewing Internet Explorer

I have an AT&T Tilt and only used WIFI since i don't live in the U.S. I previously owned the Cingular 8125 and never had a problem surfing the web on it. Now that i have the TiLT i have serious issues surfing the web. The text is extremly small.
I changed the view to the largest but still no luck. Does anyone know if there's a specific setting i should be initiating? OR is there a cab out there to change the text size in internet explorer? The only websites that are showing normally is GOOGLE and EBAY. Anyone Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Scroll down to Windows Mobile 5/6 PPC, Professional, Classic 8.65 and download. Opera has a very handy zoom feature. Internet Explorer Mobile 6 does as well, but I think that only comes in Windows 6.5 ROMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507281
This is the ROM I'm running now, and I'm quite happy with it. Both IE and Opera come installed in the rom, both can zoom, both are fairly quick and stable, and features are easy to get to. Plus you can thumb-scroll the page. Can't do that with IE that came stock on the Kaiser series. If you decide to go with the ROM, read up carefully. It's not hard, just follow the instructions.
Most importantly, read this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Best advice I can give ya is the ROM I linked to., after reading Mskips tutorial thoroughly. Next best advice is to at least go with Opera. I don't even have PIE so I couldn't even play with it and see if I could figure something out for you.
Viewing Internet Pages
thankyou that worked perfectly! Now i can view internet pages clearly. I think Opera is the best browser for my Tilt!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Q] Opera Mobile 10 too wide display

I don't know why, but Opera mobile always tries to zoom any page (including mobile pages, like m.youtube.com or x.facebook.com) too much meaning that in all these pages I can scroll left and right- even in landscape. It looks quite ridiculous, and is very annoying. The text is wrapped correctly, but page elements like buttons are put too wide.
Is there a solution for this, or just opera mobile badly programmed?
Here is a video showing the problem on m.youtube.com. Any other browser fits the whole page to the screen..
Video HERE
Goto options and modify zoom settings?
Even on lowest zoom settings (60%) the page is still wider than the screen- yet the letters are so small they are almost impossible to read.
Am I the only one with this problem, or other ppl just don't care? It's very annoying on websites like google.com/reader/i , or any mobile website. Opera 9.7 shows everything correctly, but it's slower than (already slow) opera 10.
No, you're not the only one. I have the same problem. I use opera mini and in settings I have mobile view on. It's not a nice view with mobile view, but it solves the problem you mention.
i'm experiencing this problem too, but it's a big problem for me.
I think Opera Mobile layout rendering causes it.
nah, you're not the only one. opera 10 isn't really good with rendering. mem-management is lacking as well.
opera mini 5.1 is much better at it, although it happens as well with some pages. it's my default browser, combined with 9.7 as backup (slow, but shows most pages correct) i'm quite happy.
