if some one give me clear answer on the issue of using my xperia to connect to the internet by using the wifi application would i get charged by the network even if i have free data plan from them i am on voda uk

it should be transparent to them that it's your computer getting the data and not your phone unless they put efforts into trying to find out

Can't connect to internet via 3 mobile

Hi All,
I have an x1 and have just signed up with three due to the unlimited email available in the $8 classic internet pack. I use email a lot!
I have not been able to access the internet despite having the correct APN settings (3services). I've tried with another phone and did not have issues so its the phone rather than the sim.
I called 3 customer service and they werent able to assist - said that as its not a 3 phone that the services are not guaranteed.
Does any one have any ideas? I'm in Australia.

I'm having the same issue, I use internet on the phone over data in the 3.5G network. On other phones connection stays on 3.5 but on winmo the connectivity seem to drop all the time. It's pretty annoying having to reconnect ur data connection all the time. I had this problem on samsung i780, HTC Touch Pro and now i bought a xperia x1 cos i love it. Due to this i'm finding it difficult to use apps on my phone.
Any particular reason for this or bug we could fix. A tweak or reg edit we could try. Pls help

Mobile data permission request - help please!

Hi everyone. This is my first post in a long time. I just bought an SGT & I'm over the moon with it - what an incredible piece of tech!
However, I do have one problem/question that I need help with... Bear with me because although it's quite a simple problem, it's difficult to explain! When I configure my APN settings (Globe Philippines), it automatically connects & stays connected unless I lose signal (but then it reconnects automatically again). In almost every developed country in the world, this is not a problem because you would be on a data plan (post-paid) or you could buy a data allowance (pre-paid) so it doesn't matter that it automatically connects & stays connected... you wouldn't keep racking up the charges. But here it's different... The vast majority of people are on pre-paid (we can't qualify for post-paid contract) and the mobile networks charge per 15 minutes of data useage.
So, you see, if my Tab connects automatically without warning it can cost me a small fortune. I'm currently using an App called APNdroid to manually enable/disable my mobile data connection. Although this is better than nothing, it's not ideal. My other phones default to mobile data = off & pop up a warning when I'm about to connect to internet. They also allow me easily terminate the connection when I'm finished browsing.This is what I'm after for the Tab. Surely this is not too much to ask? Does anybody have any suggestions that may help me out?
It seems as though the SGT/Android has been designed with the assumption that everyone that wants to use mobile data will be on a post-paid data plan. I would if I could, but I (and millions of others in this backward country) can't.

This is a perfectly logical question. Its the same issue when you are roaming in a foreign country/network. Here is what I do Settings => Mobile Network Settings => Data Enabled == OFF when I don't want to use data.
@cnewsgrp... Thanks for the reply. What you are suggesting is pretty much what I'm doing except that instead of going into settings, I have an app on my home screen that does it for me in one click. However, this is not ideal. All I'm after is for my Galaxy Tab to ask me which of my configured APNs do I want to connect to when a data connection is needed (if not using wifi) & then automatically disconnect from it when it's not needed. I have this facility on my Nokia E71.

[SOLVED] Data connection not working properly

Hello, I got an xperia z three weeks ago and it has always worked perfectly until yesterday: I'm experiencing strange mobile data connection issues. I can surf the web but if I disconnect and connect again, the connection may freeze: the H icon (or g or e..) appears and phone seems to transmit data as it shows an up arrow but the down arrow never appears and I can't surf the web. Toggling data and airplane mode may allow me to connect successfully but it's always pretty random..
I started thinking it was a software issue.. So i flashed The phone with the utility twice.. No success. Carrier issue? Nope: it's all ok and apn settings are ok as I can use them. Hardware issue? Perhaps as I found out that removing the SIM card and inserting it back in a certain way could make the difference (higher rate of successful connections).. So what do you think? Could be the SIM card (I got a new one in December though), the phone or something I did not consider? Sadly I can't test a different SIM now but as soon as I can find one, I will try. Thank you!

Ok.. I found out the cause.. It is the carrier.. They said itwas all ok but many are reporting my same issues in my country.. So not fixed yet but I can stop flashing my phone twice a day.

At&t US mobile hotspot glitch

I just got a new SAMSUNG-SM-G935A
I've been looking for ways to get the mobile hotspot active due to me having unlimited data on AT&T ( US ). To no prevail just like everyone I realize that at&t has block almost every possible way to use the mobile hotspot with unlimited data and it looks like a decent reliable root is going to keep changing as exploits are closed.
But....
I stumbled on this glich so I had to share.
1. Turn your wifi on your S7 edge
2. Connect to a WiFi ( doesn't matter if it has Internet access or not )
3. Once connected Turn on your mobile hotspot
4. Now connect the device your wanting to use. ( I used my Xbox ) ( I had to go into my network setting on my Xbox and configure a new connection)
5. Let the device run what ever tests it needs to run. ( I got an error msg stating that I was connected to the internet but connectivity may be interrupted and that Xbox live services maybe slow on multiplayer games)
Just hit ok
6. Now once you've connected, go to " mobile hotspot and tethering " click on "Mobile Hotspot" then in the top right hand corner click on "more". In the pull down menu click WiFi sharing click " WiFi Sharing Off "
7. Don't clear any notifications, And don't click the set up device.
Just hit the home button and enjoy your device connected thru your At&t SAMSUNG-SM-G935A on unlimited data.
Hope this helps.
Just remember att has technologies to sense this. After a month or so, you will receive an email notifying you of violating your terms of agreement, effectively booting you off unlimited if you continue on. This happens because you violate that agreement and not you or them are bound.

Have you used PDAnet/Foxfi? They're a little expensive but worked on my S6, and they supposedly try to hide the fact that you're tethering.. at&t will always know based on deep packet inspection & TTL hops, but I have a feeling they stopped the 'tetherer witch hunt' now that so many people are on mobile share

Pretty much unless you've been cought before or after using an insane amount of data (like 100gb plus) a month they won't bother looking at you.

What does a VPN have to do with the amount of data your using? VPN will create a secure connection, but it won't make your data usage magically disappear.

Because the tech they use to tell you are tethering is packet sniffing. If you mask the data, you can tether until your heart is content or you run out of data. I said nothing about amount of data being used, only to mask that your computer is using it and not your phone. The concern was being booted off for tethering on an unlimited data plan. Using a VPN on each client machine will prevent them from knowing you are tethering. They will not boot you off the network for using lots of data.

I have an AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge. Once I turn on Wifi and connect to any network, as per your instructions, I go to mobile hotspot to turn it on but I get a message saying: "Mobile Hotspot will turn off Wifi, hit cancel or ok." Then after wifi turns off I get this other message: "Mobile hotspot is unavailable. To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dail 611."
And It won't let me continue.
Make sure you have mobile wifi sharing turned on before you connect to regular wifi, then go back in and turn wifi sharing off

Why does the we need to turn the sharing on, then off? Will it allow multiple devices to connect? Will it timeout and turn off?

I have the unlimited plan also, but I previously had a mobile share plan, which had a hotspot on the plan so I had to put it on a totally separate plan from my phones with unlimited data.
I remember years ago, AT&T required you to pay an additional fee in be able to use your phone as a hotspot. Since I wanted to use my phone as a hotspot, but didn't use it enough to justify an extra fee, I found an app called FoxFi, which allowed me to override AT&T's rules and turn my phone into a hotspot without having AT&T enable the hotspot feature and without having to pay an additional fee. I'm not sure if this app still works, but it might be worth looking into.

This trick worked for the past two months....alas, the June update changed it......doesn't work anymore.......

Now you can just load the 935U firmware on our phone and the wifi tethering isn't blocked for unlimited users.

My phone was an AT&T phone. I bought online unlocked. I have taken it to Nigera and lived there 6 months. Now my husband is here he has the same phone Samsung Note 4 and I connect to his hotspot since we have no internet. However my phone when I try to tun on mobile hotspot no can do.
I have taken to my carrier CRICKET they are at a loss. So is all lost I can't get mobile hotspot? I so can;t afford a new phone and need mobile botspot when hubby isn't home.

I have an att s7 edge on Cricket and it works but ur firmware has to be 935U

I am running U firmware and I didn't have a problem connecting . Saved up about 70gbs in my rollover 40gb plan and streamed Netflix on my friends TV for 3 days .

Losing mobile data connection

Hi everyone, for some reason my Z3 compact keeps losing it's mobile data connection. Restarting the phone doesn't bring it back on and the only way I can find to get connection again is to change preferred network type from 4g to 3g then back again but as soon as I use a wifi connection again I get the same problem. I'm running the official Sony concept for M rom. thanks for any help you can give me.
in developer options there is a setting for "Cellular data always active", it might help, but the root cause is just that cell signal is too poor in your home area.
