Live Messenger missing icon in Win 7 notification area - Shift Development

Once I installed Win 7 on my Shift, I realized there was something wrong with Live Messenger, a sort of wierd windows where opened in the taskbar but no icon in the notification area, as in Win Vista, XP and others...
I searched the web and found this:
http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/...enger-icon-to-notification-area-in-windows-7/
In other words, by using Vista compatibility you get the icon back!!!

Diamond Vista sync problem

Hi there. Few days ago I changed my OS from XP to Vista. From that time I couldnt sync my Diamond. I have got SP1 and all updates. I wanted install Windows Mobile Device Center Update but when the instalattion was nearly at 99% it reversed at uninstall without any message. I havent any Windows Mobile Device Center icon between programs but I have this icon in Control Panel. I can connect my Diamond to laptop, I can transfer files for example but there is no tasks or contacts sync. Can anybody help me? I treid many thinks I found on the Internet but still no solution. I checked the Firewall as well and the related applications are allowed. I even tried to switch off the firewall but didnt help me.
So I found the solution by myself. Maybe it wil be useful for somebody. Before installing Windows Mobile Device Center Update you should do at least the following:
- update graphic driver at the newest one,
- update all Microsoft Windows Mobile Remore Adapter related things.
Important: the mobile must be conneected to the computer during searching for updates and installing them as well.
My computer is ASUS eeePC 1000H. Now it works like charm.
I have only one thing to say about Vista:
Its an amazing OS I love Vista.
Waiting patiently for Window 7.
Greets.

2. Many programs I bought for her with good money, could not
run on the Vista.
3. Vista it's like forest.. so many trees , so you could not see the forest

The recovery partition is hidden (HPA - Host Protected Area) and will not be affected if you install a different OS. You can still recover using Fn+F3
can it revert back after install another OS?

Dual Boot
Hi,
I have both XP and W7 installed.
Windows 7:
W7 runs just as smoothly as XP, so that is no isue.
W7 gives me half an hour more battery time!
But:
There are some programs that W7 doesnot run for me: My Musical Score program, and my network printer driver
Windows XP:
XP runs just as smoothly as W7.
Xp is known so very easy to work with, I know where everyting is...
XP Everything works with XP!
But: shorter battery time.
No right-click circle.
I like Windows 7 better.
It just looks better and the overall feel is smoother. I doesnot really run faster than XP it just feels that way
However I still have XP installed because I need my music program and I might want to print something....
Usualy, on the road, in the train etc. For browsing emailing etc. I use W7.
For productivity I still have to use XP.
I am working on gettin W7 to do it all...
greetz,
I hope I was helpfull,

HD2 Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 with Instant Messenger
My HD2 Windows Live has no "Instant Messenger" displayed
Tried your download and Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions
Help please
use marketplace to get the newest version of windows live messenger. i can't tell you anything about that system permissions error as i don't know the hd2 or the rom you are using, maybe the cab you downloaded is for qvga only, or for ARM cpus, maybe the rom you have has something like windows 7 UAC or maybe you don't have .net CF3.5 installed.

HD2 Does in deed have Windows Live Messenger which works via GPRS or WiFi connection.. It also has Instant messenger which works via SMS.
Edit: However, this isn't the right forum for HD2. Go to the HD2 Forum and you'll find more detailed info there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=531
Thanks for the cab.

Windows 7 RTM on HTC Shift?

Do any one tried windows 7 RTM on HTC Shift?
How you installed it and do all the drivers of windows vista work on Shift and do Shift perform faster in windows 7 instead of windows vista?
Thank you.
It works
It won't be much different from W7 RC, so you can install it and follow the guidelines on this forum for RC, RTM will behave the same.
It will be faster than vista, less memory consuming , and better suited
for mobile touch screens like our SHift.
Just do it
I do mention that it still have the specific Windows 7 on HTC Shift problems, as BSOD when AERO 1024x600, fullscreen Windows Media Center and all other problems. Control Center works well, touchscreen as well and all other chipsets.
PS: the sucks is however the "can't portrait, just landscape". No 3d party programs are working to change to portrait view...
I installed Windows 7 RTM without any problem and the BSOD in 1024x600 is solved disabling the Aero. (Using the Windows 7 Basic theme).
Nando
that's a work around

That's actually a workaround, we all want aero to work in 1024x
Let's hope some smart person writes something to help us out.
I have installed Windows 7 RTM on the Shift successfully.
After the installation of the drivers, i can't make WiFi and TouchScreen to work.
TouchScreen - i don't have DPinst.exe in the directory for EC Driver (as stated in the PDF file).
WiFi - i install the drivers, do a reset but still it doesnt recognize the WiFi adapter.
How did u manage to install them ?

Did you remember to turn on the Wifi and Bluetooth on the Vista side before installing Windows7?
The only problem is the touchscreen isn't working for me
Fresh install
For me everything is working, like the default shift install during the unpacking of the product. After Win7, most of the system is working already, only network (Lan and Wireless), Touchscreen, and the Shift control center needs installation. I have installed all the drivers (downloaded from the HTC site) that were still needed, as "administrator, and in compatibility mode for windows vista sp2. ( right click on the setup | properties | checkmark the option to run as administrator, and check the correct compatibility mode. Or use vista, or windows xp) First thing to install is the "Vista EC Driver ", after that the USB LAN driver. Than run the automatic update until you have installed all the windows 7 updates. You notice that the screen drivers are updated to the latest version. Than its time to install the rest of the drivers still needed: Touchscreen and the Marvall Wifi. (in compatibility mode installed...) The Control button on the shift is not working, but the Shift control program can be started via the programs button of windows 7, and all the options to start wireless and bleutooth are working.
My advise: Upgrade as soon as possible: Default Installation of WinVista gave me 720 MB memory in use after a fresh restart, the Windows7 uses 510 MB... so major performance boost !
Have fun,
Manus
