hey i don't know if i am posting this in the right section or not, but here it goes:
ok, i got a g1 and there is a problem with the screen. When i press the power button to power it on, nothing shows up I even tried going into the bootloader screen and everything else like the reset to factory default and everything, i tried everything. it is rooted with one of cyanogens previous roms, it was like 3. something. nothing shows up on the screen, it lights up though, u can see the screen light up and the keyboard also. I thought it was the ribbon connecting the phone to the screen but i ordered a new one and that didnt seem to fix it. I cant send it in to T-mobile because the warranty is void and i bought it from a private seller. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated. Any help is welcome. I will try whatever, Thank You!

Why is the warranty void? Is there water damage? If not, then HTC should still honor the warranty, all you need to do is call them for an RMA number and ship it to them. However, you'll need to flash the stock ROM on first...
the warranty is void because i opened it up to replace the ribbon. I dont really have that much to spend on repairing this phone. I heard HTC charges like 150 to repair? with like 50 bucks more i could just get a new phone from t-mobile..

Ouch... so you broke a seal then, so you could have sent the phone off prior to replacing the ribbon...
Anyway, hopefully someone will be able to help you with this... I don't know much on the hardware side.
Just to clarify, you can get into the bootloader and the recovery screen? It just goes blank after it tried to boot? If so, have you tried to unroot and go back to the stock firmware?
Anyway, even if you have opened it, HTC may help. I had one that had been opened (not by me) with the viod sticker removed and plastics broken that I bought off CL. They gave me an RMA and I sent it in, a week later they called and said it was being mailed back..fixed...free under warranty.
Now, you will need to pay shipping one way, plus you MAY get a triage fee of "$39 or less" if it is not covered and you choose to not repair it. Depends on what they find. Make sure all the water dots are white! I say send it in. They took care of me! Tell them the truth (ok, maybe not about the ribbon replacement), I am sure they will work with you.

hey im interested if all they charge me is 39 plus shipping.. can u give me more info about it? also u know the front face plate thats on the screen, the black part surrounding the screen? that is also cracked but i can put everything back together, as far as getting it back to stock rom, i dont think i can do it because nothing comes up on the screen, its just blank. How do i know if my phone is still under warranty? I bought it used off of craigslist about 7 months ago..

Ok, wasnt sure about the blank screen..I thought you said it would go into the tri color screen. Was hoping maybe it was more software than hardware.
The $39 is for them to look at it if they deem it is NOT under warranty and you decide not to pay to have it fixed (this could get expensive) and also covers mailing it back to you. If it IS covered, it is free. If they see physical damage, it is hard to say what they will do. But the removal of the void sticker and some cracked plastics on mine still was warranted.

so sending it back wouldnt really do me any good if i have a blank screen?
oh I am sure they will look at it, and let you know if it is covered and if not, how much it will cost. But you just need to keep in mind that if they deem it not covered, it will cost you $39 "or less" to get it mailed back. You will get a diagnosis, but no repair. You can choose to fix it if it is not covered, but that is likely where you heard the $150 quote. I rolled the dice on mine and was very pleasantly surprised they covered it since it was obliviously opened and tweaked with. You may not be as lucky, or they may take care of you...hard to say. I fear with a cracked bezel they may replace the lcd, which is not cheap.
I have 2 parts only phones right now, one is just a digitizer away from being complete. If you decide not to send it to them for repair, I would take a look at it for you and swap out some components to determine what is bad. PM for more info if you want. Here is my "junkyard" along with my personal G1 on the far left

Hey all,
I just received a new headphone jack flap (The one my XZ keeps opening due to a rip in the plastic).
Only problem is, I have no idea how to install it... I don't know how to remove the old one (No, cutting it with scissors or pulling it until it rips doesn't count) - And after that how to install the new flap.

I hope I don't need to actually open the Phone for this, as it might beat the point of getting a new flap for water resistance, and then screwing it permanently myself.
I *think* you have to open the phone.
I took my Xperia S to the official repair service in order to have one of the flaps replaced. They charged me 3€ total and they did it in 15 min. So it was in and out.
Probably it is te same for the Z. If I were you I'd take it to the official repair service if you don't want to lose the warranty.
Sigh... Figured as much. Thing is I'm already on 4.2.2 (unlocked BL of course). I'll have to flash 307 and relock bootloader to use official service... That's what I'm trying to avoid.
I don't know, man, broken flaps are not covered by warranty anyway.
Funny thing is that when I bought my 2nd Xperia S (first one was under an operator contract so no unlockable bootloader), the first thing I did was to unlock the bootloader, install a rom etc, and after a few hours of use, I saw dead pixels in a row on the screen. I took the phone to the repair service and since I bought the phone there just the day before and they remembered my face and everything, no paperwork was needed, the guy told me yeah no worries, I'ma install a new screen wait a bit. 20 min later the guy came at me yelling, literally yelling, what did you do to the phone?!!! the system doesn't even recognizes it!!! You know how much this is gonna cost to you??!!! 150€!!!! This is not covered by warranty!!!! But come on, I just payed 450€ for it just yesterday, are you kidding me? - I replied, and we had a little confrontation over the warranty claims.
Of course, I forgot to relock the bootloader before having it sent for repairs, thus causing me to lose any warranty claim I could have. He called his manager, he somewhat understood the situation and spared me those 150€, warning me that next time they would not repair it. Don't worry I know how to lock it back I said. And so did I this time my device needed service, I sent the phone to have the main mic and one flap replaced. They just charged me 3€ for the flap, as the mic was covered by warranty.
So what I mean with all of this is that even if you had the bootloader locked, they would charge you X amount of money for replacing the flap. Just tell them my bootloader is unlocked, just replace the flap and charge whatever you need to charge.
Ouch... Inconsiderate morons, it's not like you defaced the phone or anything....
Will try what you suggested, worst case scenario? Time to learn how to open the phone myself. :banghead:

I heard the Xperia Z had the back cover glued instead of using screws to close the back in order to be more water resistant. If that's the case, I don't think the Z is user repairable.
That's a problem. You see, there might not be an actual lab for the repair service where I am. That means you submit your phone through the store where you bought the phone and they send it to the importer for the warranty. Which is a big hassle for something like a flap - I wouldn't like to be without a phone for a couple of days just for that. Let's just hope it's not the case.
Well, that went horribly. I told them at the repair center my BL is unlocked. The receptionist had no idea what I was talking about and kept saying they'll flash stock firmware despite my objections and only needing a flap replacement.
Eventually they charged me for 30€, claiming not only BL unlock is a void of warranty, but also that the flaps are not covered under warranty at all (so they'd charge people 30€ even if their BL is unlocked and they just need a flap replaced).
They refused to use the replacement flap I brought with me, claiming they can't validate its quality.
Moreover, they claimed the 30€ are for opening and sealing the device (technician work time) - something that should take mere minutes for a train professional.
Next time I'm going to a private lab or trying myself, screw warranty.
At least I have a backup flap...
Replacing a flap is easy, well at least if you have the proper tools needed to do it. It requires opening the device, which is as simple as pulling the back side, then loose the flap, place the new one, remove the sticky seal, apply a new one, and put again the back cover. A 15 minutes job.
30€ is a standard price for this kind of job, pretty cheap, less would have been a surprise. And it is obvious why they didn't accepted the spare flap you tried to give to them, they guarantee all repairs, obviously they don't want to guarantee a repair done using low quality eBay replacements and you should prefer the official replacement also.
The next time, before buying parts, see if you will be able to install it for yourself or not.

Nope, when they noticed the BL was open they claimed warranty is void (regardless of the flap not being covered by warranty). They didn't touch it - still on 4.2.2 leak rooted.
Although a physical fault can't be related to the blog being unlocked it does state when getting the code to unlock it that the warranty is void.
Tough one that as it's two different issues :s I guess it's there if people unlock then root/over clock and kill the phone and claim it's a fault.
The decent thing would be to log it as a physical fault for the casing but log against the imei no software/internal faults will be fixed.

So I just got another xperia Z, used, from ebay, and there is 2 issues that i think could be warranty issues.
1) the tape under the seals is red, not white, showing water leakage? I saw reports of this from poeple on the forum, do sony cover repairing seals? This was the special launch bundle with headphones etc. so it is one of the first off the line
2) there is a blemish on the right hand corner, which lines up with where the dock clips in, could this have been caused by the dock? if so is this covered by warranty. See the images below

I guess sony wont cover those small damages, I even got a small dot on a gorilla glass, I peeled of the screen protector but when I cleaned it with soft cloth I discovered very tiny dot (scratch) and I got very pissed, it is almost invisible but I hate to know that my phone has a scratch because I always take care of my phone and I'm very careful! I also was interested if the could polish the screen or something but they said it's not a factory damage and would not repair it. I had Xperia S and I promised myself not to buy SONY products because of build quality and again I did it! I'm very disappointed Hope Honami will be better

Upon closer inspection, the issue with the screen is more because it has been replaced badly (didnt know this before), the corner is not stuck down properly, so sticks up and makes it easier to damage, all that has happened is the black bezel has come off a small chunk in the corner, meaning it is just clear, as it lights up when you turn the screen on. Also pushing on the sides of the screen presses on the actual LCD, just a really poor repair!
Still wondering about the pinkish tabs under the flaps though
:X I cant imagine how you feel :X Take my deepest condolences

I read somewhere that Sony service center refusing warranty(hardware related) if those indicators go pink.I don't really know if they are going to treat initial batches any differently.

They can easily be returned back to white using chlorine/bleach. I'm in no WAY saying the OP should do that, but i was wanted to leave this here.

Well..that's a great idea(if it works!) for those who want to claim warranty for hardware related problems. One could carefully rub some on it using an ear-bud or something.

If you break your own device man up and pay up. The only reason i left this here was because it wasn't due to hardware.
Just to update people on this, the phone is going back, the screen was poorly replaced and is loose on 2 corners, the back is also loose from where it has been dropped, so a combination of not well looked after and poor build quality really. Not going to stop me buying the honami on launch day though. I'm hoping for a Honami and Smartwatch 2 bundle

Send this destroyed phone him back. He lied to you about phone. He must give your money back.
Hey,
i want to share with you my recent experience with the german and probably also austrian repair shop for Motorola phones, called datrepair. They're also partners with Samsung, Sony, and Apple. The reason i had to send my phone in was because of a broken audio jack since day 1, which i didn't notice at first (i thought of my headphones) and then waited for a replacement phone.
First of all, if it comes to the point you have to send in your phone for repairment, everything is really professional, you can even look up the current status of the repair. Also it really didn't take long to repair.
The one and only thing that's shocking is how lousy they seem to care about the phones. Here's what fell right out of the package i received when i was happy to finally get it back and proceed to root it:

I want to remark that my phone was in a condition i'd best describe as "like brand new", apart from a small part of silver shining through the lower edge of the display border and some little marks near the USB port. Not a scratch, the display has the same film since day 1 - not a single fingerprint was ever on this display.
Damages:
- obviously, Motorola logo not sticking to the phone anymore, i can see the glue pad
- left side of the R in the logo damaged, you can see it if you look closely
- all six torx screws scratched, that's probably not avoidable but they could've at least changed them after disassembly - massive resell value lost
- the display film is damaged / dirt under it but that's not that big of a deal as this was the first one of my 6 i used. Anyway this probably could have been avoided, not even the film had a single scratch..
I'll keep you updated. I instantly sent an email to their support hotline as they're only taking calls till 17.00 and i was home shortly after this. Also, i didn't want to pay 14ct/minute as i will pay another 5€ to ship it back to them again. If they were within 100km range from me, i would jump into my car tomorrow and throw this excellent example of astonishing quality control and professional labor right into the guy's face that "repaired" it. Even i can solder a audio jack, but i would have lost my guarantee if i did so. It's really shocking how people in shops handle your personal stuff, i recently experienced the third damage done to my car in my official dealership within 1.5 years, this time they damaged a rim that's worth 450€ (a single one, not four!) and made by the official tuner of the car company. Everybody in this place knows how much they're worth, .. wait, i am slowly drifting away from the topic.
What do you think of this? I think i'll also contact Motorola themselves, just to be sure something WILL happen if the shop damages it again.

Well, I'm happy that I've seen your post. I own a rooted Razr i so i don't have any guarantee and that's why I'm very carefull with it. But my sister owns also a Razr i (not rooted) and she still has a guarantee. The problem is, her phone fell down on the street and the aluminum part is little bit scratched and bent. Also there are very thin black stripes on her display now, but her display works perfectly. Now I thought about sending it to the same repair service you did and even asked them about it. They said it will be about 150€! That's when I thought to leave it be. But after I saw your post, I decide to NEVER send it to them.
After 20 mins of phone ringing, they picked up at excactly 17pm. I'll get a free postage stamp, so i won't pay for the shipment back to them. So far, service or at least "customer care" seems to be good, but i'm still interested in how i'll get the phone back. I'd bet they just glue the logo with the little dent in it.
Don't pay 150€ to repair it! Think of how much you'd still get for it in ebay. Sell it and buy another one, it's only 280€ now. I think it's realistic that you'd get 120€ for your phone, so for another 150 you could get a brand new one. Or, better option, try to fix it yourself.. Where excactly from germany are you?

I'm from Herborn which is in Hessen.
Ok, if you were from berlin or close to it i would have offered you that we'll take a look inside it together. I'd go not as far and consider myself an expert but i repaired a few electric devices and i'm studying electronic engineering, so i know quite a bit about that ..
MAJOR UPDATE!
Got an email today, phone can't be repaired. I'm offered to get full refund for the price i bought it. As i got it in a contract, i hope i'll receive the 360-385€ it was worth when i got it. If this will happen, i'll let go of my razr i experiment and switch back to HTC with their One. I guess, looking back the razr i was a bad chose for me - i like the look, love the size, battery life was great but i'm missing developers. I already found myself looking jelly across the pond to some One users and the astonishing software that comes with the marvellous looks.
However, it's a real shame for the shop and i will definitely contact motorola after i'm finally done with this s***. What do they think of themselves? I can get torx screws to replace the now scratched ones in every hardware story myself. Also i don't think that the 50ct motorola logo is so unique and can't be glued back into place again that it'll make the phone irreparable.
I'll be so relieved if this works out, i'm just afraid for the next bad thing to happen..
Hey guys,
My phone is Xperia V as many of you might know.. It fell out of my pocket last night.
The upper screen above the Sony logo got a little crack, but that's not the thing i'm worried about..
The bottom of the screen became unresponsive :/
Bad luck i guess. The screen displays perfect, it is just unresponsive to touch inputs.
Also, i'm out of warranty. Not only cause my bootloader is unlocked, the warranty period ended 4 months ago.
(relocked bootloader and reverted to stock, still nothing)

I honestly don't think there's an easy solution myself, but just thought of creating a thread anyway who knows..
What to do?
3 months ago, my xv fell out of my pocket too and upper screen above the Sony logo got cracked and my screens upper part became unresponsive I took it to repair center, and the found out that the touch input was broked. Because xv uses sensor on lens, I had to replace both screen & touch input together. It cost me about 100 dollars.

Looks like i have a similar problem then I'm taking it to the service center asap, let's see what they'll say.
Were you under warranty when yours stopped working?
And thanks for the response mate

Yep, cracked mine a while ago, and it renders whole touch screen useless unlike some other phones. Managed to replace it myself, fiddley but do-able if you have some experience in taking phones apart.
really seems to be a hardware problem....maybe the colonel can give a little hint on how to repair it.
i think this is the part u need http://www.amazon.de/OnceAll-Digitizer-Screen-Display-XPERIA/dp/B00FHIO6C8
could u plz make us a 4.3 custom kernel if we help u resolve the issue?

C'mon!!! this guy already made an awesome kernel for 4.1 without asking anything!
It's not fair to ask something from him before helping. Help him for God's sake if u can!

U can operate your phone with mouse over OTG cable. Using a mouse, go to developer options and enable show touches. I saw some touch points upper of my screen around the cracked area. Btw, I was not under warranty.
Thanks for the help y all, i am taking it to the service center today, let's see what they have to say. In case repairing is too expensive, i will do it manually.

Yeah, this is what i need.. but do i need to choose a specific one? I don't know much about screens, but do i take the risk of getting a cheap TMD panel? Or does LCD screens have nothing to do panels? @colonel_lp

The digitizer and LCD are one, so yes you do take the risk of getting a cheap panel. There are many on ebay, i looked for one that had a similar code on the back to mine, which was a Sharp panel. I don't remember the code now...
The phone comes apart really easily, apart from the hardest part of getting the old screen off, (a real PITA). I used a hairdryer and much patience and shattering of glass (wear safety goggles). Clean it up really well, and you will also need to get some 3M double sided adhesive tape to stick the new one back on(really really thin strips). I would suggest assembling the phone and trying to see if the screen works before sticking it in place..
Let me know if you need any more advice.

Just want to be sure i do everything right

Just take it really slowly and lots of repeated heat with a hairdryer, and something really thin to pry it off that wont damage the plastic parts.
Good Luck.

I got it off at last.. the screen is now completely unusable though.
I've looked for the adhesive tape and found two. When you say "really thin strips" do you mean 1mm or 3mm?

It depends on which part, you need different for different places. you can see what fits. I think i bought a sheet and cut pieces from it with a very sharp knife and put them in place. But strips will work also.
@NuriJ
Have you solve this? My dropped today and my upper part of screen became irresponsible.
Did you buy the new LCD and digitizer or only the digitizer? I thought, that in this phone it is only one part, but I saw some offers on ebay where were only digitizers.
Can you please tell where did you bought it?
Thanks

First do this - Take the phone apart, then disconnect the digitizer (you don't need to take the screen off to do this).
The digitizer has a small connector on it - Disconnect that too. Now reconnect both. Then power on your phone.
screen works > good for you
screen still dead > bad luck
I would highly recommend getting the LCD and digitizer in one. HOWEVER getting the screen + front cover is much easier as you don't need to take the old screen off and stick the new one back on (not that easy). And + you would only need to move the hardware.
FYI; If you have the 'sharp' type of display now, i recommend getting the 'sony' display (much better colors and contrast).
Sony displays have a somewhat similar code to this on the back: Z181FF0013

I have(had) the display from sony, this is why I was thinking about the digitizer only. So the display and the digitizer can split up? But I guess that I will need both parts because of the crack on the glass.
I can not find any offers where the code can be seen on the internet. But I will try to look closer.
Anyway, thanks for the tip with disconnecting and connecting the digitizer, I will definitely try it.
EDIT: Did you find any good disassembling guide?
EDIT2: Bad luck
This is the desired code? http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sony-Xp...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2c7cc7b012

Yes, that's it. The display and digitizer can be split up, but i don't think i would mess with that..
Keep in mind that some uses pictures from sharp panels even though it's sony. Better ask for the code to be sure.
And also someone from another thread said that the phone most likely would not be waterproof after replacing the screen. . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169802
There's most likely disassembling guides on youtube, have a look at them
****! Just dropped my new sony display, which I had been waiting for weeks
Opened the box, took it out of the plastic and after a few minutes - dropped it and the digitizer died.
I wonder how tf that happened. Totally unbelievable and i just bought the tape some days ago. Also i won't know if it broke during shipping or after i dropped it

Got no warranty / return shipment for replacement?
Sent from my SGP311 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have LETV X800 US version. Drop from 1.5 cracked the glass really nice (see attachment). I am thinking to order screen replacement from here: http://www.vopmart.com/pa1013251.html or here: http://s.aliexpress.com/iemyi2Yz
Do you think it is compatible with my US version of the phone.
I guess it should work on both CN & US but I need to ask before ordering.

I also have the same problem.
Hi
Did you find a solution to your problem ? I also have the same and I do not find the necessary help.
Thank you for your answer
In my reading the screen replacement should work on both US and CN versions....
The screen of this phone is subpar to current phone standards. Mine cracked when dropped at 30 cm from tiled floor after 3 months of use! The phone was house into its original silicone transparent protection, with a glass protection on top! The glass protection didn't brake, only the screen underneath did. I had it replaced for the equivalent of 30 euros in China in a general phone fixing shop, and made clear I did not want an original replacement. They guy came up with a good quality screen, slightly thicker than the original. I have used it without problems for 8 months now. It withstood about 4 falls from 1 meter each, but I keep the phone housed in a metal frame protection since then. The original case is bad since it doesn't protect the phone all around as it should.
I bought the screen from vopmart.
Price is ok, delivery was fast (less than a week to Germany).
Disassembly of screen was actually easier than in the videos, works pretty well.
The BIG problem was (which I did not really realize or ignore until then)...the vopmart screen replacement did NOT come with the adhesive to glue the screen to the phone.
Since I was impatient and wanted to use the phone right away, I used some own tape and glue and damaged the screen in the process.
Bottom line:
- Screen replacement is relatively simple and screen is not too expensive
- make sure you double check that the adhesive is included in the screen you order or order separately, otherwise you will not be able to replace the screen
- I second what the previous poster said....my phone fell from about 70cm and the screen was cracked pretty badly, previous phones did survive this
I bought a Xiaomi phone now. I hope/think build quality is a bit better and, more importantly, you are not stuck with Android 5...
I'm planning to order screen on Aliexpress. I want to ask you that, is your screen's colors or quality worse than original? I'm not asking for durability, just asking for quality.

I think it is about the same as the original. I am not 100% sure though since I destroyed it a little during the replacement. And I believe the color quality from the original one is not great to start with anyway.

I ordered the screen which comes with the digitiser and lcd screen but no sticker so I ordered the sticker, however some people in this thread said glue, so I am confused. What more the replacement videos don't show people putting in glue.
And originally did the phone have a sticker I think not?

So I have ordered both and have the heat gun, and the pry tools, so technically if I am not a gimp I should be able to complete this successfully.
I am just again slightly confused because some videos recommend removing the back cover and the getting to the front by doing a full disassembly whilst others recommend removing the glass directly.
Has anyone tried both methods? I would understand if you were replacing the battery also but...
Thank you in advance.
I have only tried the "front" method, so just removed the glass from the front. I found this to be pretty easy. I did this with a Sony Xperia phone before and I must say the letv was much easier.
I can recommend removing the glass from the front.
Which one is the front method? What and where did you buy to repair it?

I think you use a heat gun to warm it up and then use a suction cup to loosen it then use a razor blade to cut away the glue/sticker and slowly pry it apart.
Then you detach it, attach the new one apply the sticker and then reseal.
Sticker
Hello everybody,
The son of my friend break his screen (LeTV one Pro = LeEco x800 Pro).
He bought a replacement screen, but there is no sticker to fix the screen. It's hard to find this part alone.
Can you give me an idea to solve this problem?
Regards.
