Strange GPS behavior with tomtom - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I noticed that when I run tomtom the gps looses the signal continously, even if I'm in openair and with no construction around, like there is some issue with the receiver.. BUT when I download the satellite position with quick gps, everything is fine... why??

Maybe you wanna try another Radio ROM. I made the best experiences with the one in my sig. I also tried 1.09.XX.XX but had bad GPS signal reception.

Actually I have 1.09.25.23

Yes that was exactly the one I had with bad GPS signal. Maybe you wanna give 1.00.25.05 a try. After changing the radio ROM, my signal became perfectly stable even within a belt bag and fixes within 15-30s.

The more stable RADIO ROM

Hi,
I've installed the lastest ROM RADIO v1.46.00.11
My GPS take 5 to 15 min to fix I don't know if is due to the RADIO ROM but I've read somewhere that this version is not the best for France (Europe)
Can someone told me wich one is the more stable for GSM and GPS
thanks
the radiorom is only for the phone not
for gps, wifi or bluetooth

Are you sure.... I've read in a thread in XDA that the GPS depend on the ROM but not the WIFI
i'm curious too.. i thought radio ROM affects gps and bluetooth as well as phone
i'm not 100% but under the impression as there are plenty of pda's around which dont have phone but have gps, wifi and bluetooth

I think that Radio Rom affect GPS too because when I bought my P3600, GPS wasn't enable and I had to upgrade Radio version in order to active the GPS.

Radio is different to ROM.
Anyways, not sure if this would help, but I'm using Radio version 1.46.30.11, I really don't know if Radio has anything to do with GPS reception, but you can try upgrading it to that.
There's also a program out there that's meant to help GPS fix. It's called GPSTest that was posted a few days back. Might want to look that up.
Will post again if i can find it and test it.
And here it is, but not sure if it's a myth or reliable

Now im curious to now what the different Radions do with the phone??
never seen a change log / release note for any radiostack to any device
guess htc dont release them externaly
and a user based opinion vs. writing would
be so individual and biased it would be pointless

GPSTest doesn't help GPS fix. GPS fix is dependant on GPS hardware. The only benefit of GPSTest is that it is a small program, thus it loads faster therefore initialising GPS faster. That's all it does.
That being said. Radio Rom absolutely has an effect on GPS receiver. Do you remember when the Trinity first came out with GPS disabled? Was it not disabled because of conflicts with the 3G radio? So you'll have to find a radio version that works right for you. Personally, the 1.46xxx radios suck ass for me in Canada, so I'm trying out different ones to see which works best.

GPS Signal Never Saves????

Okay, Ive been using gps on my tilt for a while. When I was running WM6.0 on a 1.27 radio, my gps was perfect. Never ran GPS tool once, tom tom would aquire a signal within 20seconds of boot and it would be great from there....until i flashed to 6.1.
After flashing to 6.1, i went with 1.64.06.04 radio, and now using 1.58.21.23 radio. It seems that every time I use gps after a period of a day or so, I have to reaquire a GPS sat signal. This process always involves me running GPS tool for about 2min before satellites could be aquired. After that, would Tom Tom pick up a signal at its normal time.
I feel like my Tilt isnt saving the GPS info...
And yes, I have run quickGPS many times, and my region is correct in registry.
THanks for any help!!
my thoughts exactly
same here there is no sub for a good radio
i dont like wm6.1 just for not beeing able to use wm6 radios
no one can do anything
That's strange
I have the same duddy's rom but 1.64.08.21 radio .
I just keep Quickgps updated .
I never use GPStools , i use my navigator destinator7 and it takes around 1-2 minute to fix.

any other thoughts on this? is there anybody that has exprenced this problem or knows a solution? ive been trying different radios, and none got a fix as good as the 1.27 radios...

I agree, don’t like the wm6.1 radios gps preformance. It takes forever to get a fix. With 6.0 and the 1.27 radios I got a fix in 15-20 secs. Don’t know what the issue is but don’t like it being so damn slow.

What roms do WM6.1 and GPS best?

Hi, I'm running Duttys Hybrid v2 with radio 1.58.16.27 and get excellent GPS performance. Acquisition in 5 seconds, most of the time.
Are there any other WM6.1 ROMs that perform as well? I've used a few 6.1s that are really fast, but have terrible GPS performance (I think it is because you really need one of the NIKI radios, but most aren't supporting them)
Just curious....
If you are having problems getting a gps fix with any rom, try gpsgate. I've used it and can get a fix on any rom within a few seconds.
I know this doesn't answer your question but if your only problem with a rom is the gps acquisition, this is your solution.
The gps signal is more radio related then rom related.

True, but a lot of roms only work with very specific radios.

Untrue, many roms are just packed with a certain radio, and only a few require a certain one.
I had been getting 20 second cold-start acquisitions back on winmo6.0. On 6.1, I'm lucky to get it in under a minute.
GPSGate does help, but it runs the GPS nonstop and drains the battery in short order.
Anyone find a radio that works better? Using GPSGate, or GPSTest isn't a good option for me. I may need to go hunting for good winmo6.0 cooked roms.

GPS Problem

Hello,
REALLY enjoying my new Tilt. Currently using my second ROM from the fine chefs here. Started off with Dutty's V1 19588, GPS worked fine. Now I have been using Garmin's DK2.1 Final Cleartype, but cannot get the GPS to connect to the satellites.
Currently when I run GPS Tool, the program loads and I select open to start the connection. Data starts coming in and I switch to the satellite page. After a minute or 2 a few satellites appear on the screen (3-4 red circles, along with the corresponding bars at the bottom, which I assume indicates signal strength). The signal strength bars never get above about half and none of the satellites ever connect to give my location.
What am I doing wrong? What settings do I need to check?
Thanks for your time.
Zack
similar problem here too.
I cant make to work garmin mobile XT after I updated to dutty's WM6.1 it cant find internal GPS it just keeps scanning blue tooth.
it was working great on WM6. is there something different on WM6.1? do I need to install something els to make internal GPS working?

Since the GPS is firing up and you're seeing satellites it sounds like your settings are correct. GPS performance can vary greatly among different radios. What radio were you running with Duttys? WHat radio do you have now? If the Dutty radio is compatible with Garmin DK2.1 try flashing it and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise check the radio thread in the ROM board and see which ones get mentioned for good GPS performance.

Did you make any changes to the settings under "External GPS"? You don't want to touch that at all. The last info I knew (almost a year ago) was that if you changed those settings the only way to get the internal GPS recognized again was to do a hard reset. Hopefully there's an easier solution.
Will have to check which radio came with duttys, but the Radio I am using with Garmin DK2.1 is Neon 1.65.24.36, which was supposed to provided better overall GPS and phone performance. *shrug* Think I am going to give Garmin's new DKv31 a try then start playing with the radio.
Also do you recommend any specific GPS management program? Garmin comes with GPS Tools and Duttys came with GPS Test. I preferred the look of GPS test, but GPS Tools seems to provide more information.
Thanks again for the helpful reply!
This has been discussed several times.
I think one of the longuest thread on the subject can be found here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397728
Mainly, people think it is due to Radio version.
For me it started working again after urgrading the HardSPL.
You can see my config in my signature.
Good luck
These posts belong in the ROM thread, not here.

No GPS after Radio installation...

... so guys i need your help with this...
I installed the newest HTC-Rom onto my XDA Diamond and the: 1.11.25.01 Radio. everything works fine instead of the GPS.
I tried with iGO Navigator 8 and TomTom Navigator 7 both programs recognize the included GPS but both don't get any Signal through it...
I dont know what to do know please help me... and is it possible to fix that WITHOUT any hardresets because i want to keep my configuration...
Are u sure there is no signal ? What I'm saying is that...even though you don't see signal (especially happens to me with SU Radio's) it still works. At least for me it does. Even when I don't see a signal what eventually happens is that it give me the coordinates from the satellite side and if you start to move you will hopefully your map will show this too.
If this doesn't work get Config. 3.3 and make sure that GPS is disabled.
Or
Just change your radio........doesn't hard reset your phone and non required after you flash. Hope you hard reset your ROM after the flash though!
when i try to use TomTom Navigator...
it hungs at: Waiting for GPS Signal, so i think there is noch signal at all..
which radio version should i try ??
Currently I'm back with 1.09.25.23 but all the Security Unlocked radio's had this symptom of not displaying the signal but it was there.
First time use of an app using gps takes a long time to get a gps fix.
It can take up to 20 min.
And make sure you're outside AAAHAHAHAHA
Try running quick GPS
