Hi everyone. I have a x1 xperia for almost a month now and found this great forum. I'm new here and I also tried the search function but didn't find the answers to what I was looking for so I thought I asked here.
Does installing certain programs void my warranty? (I have a 1 year warranty from Sony Ericsson)
To be more precise:
Does installing ROMs void my warranty?
-For example installing WM 6.5 (that's a ROM right?)
I figure this will definitely void my warranty but want confirmation
Does installing Tweaks void my warranty?
-I though probably some tweaks do REAL heavy tweaks that change the system (WM 6.1) or something thus void my warranty
Does installing Programs/Panels void my warranty?
-I actually thought no because there were programs and panels in there to begin with...but i don't know the exact rules of the warranty thing...i thought maybe if somehow we used an unofficial program and caused the phone to crash (super duper crash...like can't even hard reset...take of the battery and back on again and still wont come on) then if I came to the sony erricson centre to complain...they'll just blame me for putting some unofficial program
Also what about UIs? Does installing them void my warranty?
-for example the touch flo?
I'm not brave to install anything unless I'm sure it doesn't void my warranty =(
I am really confused right now.
I want to experiment installing a lot of stuff you guys have here but I'm also afraid if it voids my warranty. The reason I bought the x1 was because it was highly customizable (seeing so many programs, ROMS, tweaks in this XDA forum. Also because touch pro and touch pro2 was way more expensive then the x1 lol)
Meanwhile my x1 has battery problems and auto backlight adjust problems so I'm probably gonna go get it checked first.
But seeing how it has problems like this from the very beginning, I doubt there wont be other problems in the future. That's why I think I gonna really need the warranty if I'm gonna experiment installing stuff (if installing stuff doesnt void my warranty)
Anyway sorry probably bored you half to death from my long message.
Thanks in advance.
ok well installing anything thorugh cabs or changing/copying files will not void your warrenty. updating your phone with an official rom will not void your rom.
BUT the moment you Hard-SPL your phone and flash a custom ROM technically your warrenty is void, but you could always just flash the normal spl and rom back on and SE won't know the difference!

What if I don't have a warranty? Will it void it as well?
Word @above...
but be careful. Since you are very interested in your warranty you shoud know that if you have a brick (flashed custome ROM and phone died) your warranty definately voids and SE is able to detect that. Be careful but the chance is very small you get a brick
@oTToToTenTanz
yeah I am very worried about my warranty. Thanks for the advice =)
@Jonny4911
thank you very much for the info.
Unofficial ROMs not ok. check =(
(although your trick seems interesting I'll wait a couple of months before trying it lol)
So there are official ROMs besides the ones we're given? I can't seem to find anything on the SE site. I know you guys might think I sound silly, but I just thought it should have been there. Is it in an htc or microsoft website?
I've heard the term flashing and ROM over and over again, but I never heard hard-spl before.
What's hard-spl? normal spl?
Ok but cabs and files are definetly ok =)
Alright I'll be downloading all the cabs I can get my hands on lol.
Got any advice on the lastest good cabs? (some of the ones I read seem outdated, if i'm wrong just forget I even said this, maybe it's just not sleeping in a long time is effecting my memory I don't want you to think i'm a noob that doesn't even search before posting)
Anyways sorry for such noob questions but for answering.

Hello guys...need some advises here....
Just bought Dopod 810 with WM6 official....but can I use cooked WM6 that available here?
any risks doing it?
Some risks
Hi Wid -
You can use the ROMs posted here. They will work on any Trinity. Some things to watch out for:
- you can "brick" your phone, which means it stops responding to any inputs, becoming as useful as a brick.
- however you can fix "bricking"
- You can also avoid bricking by removing the Service Provider Lock (SPL) software and replacing it with a non-restictive SPL (see posts in this forum)
- if you remove or change your SPL, you technically have violated the terms of your contract with your telecom provider. This probably won't be a problem for day-to-day use, but if you ever need warranty service, or other service with the device, they can refuse to provide it because of your use of a non-offical ROM.
see here for more discussion of ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331429
Good luck!
Mike
Hi mike....thanks for the information...
I did read about "brick" my device & I have been suggested that I must do Hard SPL first prior flashing with cooked ROM.
FYI, my phone is not under contract with my service provider...just warranty by the manufacturer...so should I still need to remove SPL? or do HARD SPL 1st then star flashing my phone?
thanks
wid
anyone can help me?
If you install any cooked ROM or change SPL you run the risk of your manufacturer warranty been in-validated.
The question you should ask yourself, is it worth the possible trouble?
Changing WM6 for a cooked WM6, i'm not sure, but only you can answer that question.
Yes...I just wondering....because I'm type of person that like to try something new.
But after sometimes, search & read...I decided to keep with my original ROM.
Thank you for all advises here
Hello
Could someone please kindly explain what does SPL mean?
And why ROM is called ROM? Is it the firmware?
Doews HSPL void warranty and USPL not?
I searched at google for a while but didnt get a proper answer.
Sorry to ask this here. Anyway, I am sure there are a lots of people who would like this to know as well.
Thanks
no idea..
Check my post at the end of the "Dummys......" sticky post, Uspl Doesnt invalidadte as its a temporary change as far as I'm aware. Hspl however invalidates the Eula of windows I think.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone
Rom=Read Only Memory in this rom you find the firmware of your device.
thanks for all your replies..
now I understand why these are called ROMs..
but one thing that still haunts my mind..
what does SPL stand for? i am very curious in this..what is it for?
is it some securtiy protocol? or what?
thanks guys..
SPL - second program loader.
the SPL is the bootloader. on a pc, the equivalent is BIOS.
HSPL is what you use to edit the SPL in such a way that it would allow you to use custom ROMS. its a permanent change as you are flashing a new SPL. USPL works only whenever you use/run it, so the SPL remains unchanged. changes are only temporary and when the USPL application is closed (or the device rebooted), the device goes back to its previous SPL.
See the SPL Questions page on the wiki. It will tell you more than your ever want to know .
AFAIK, USPL void's the warranty just as much as Hard SPL, but does it in a way that no-one can detect.
It's like saying the warranty is void if used in the attic, taking your phone in the attic will void it, but it will take some proving that you took it into the attic
Dave
nice example with the attic
thanks guys for your replies...Now I finally now what SPL is thanks to ASK768.. thanks...
have a great one...
no problem.
but actually, while we're at it, why would one want to flash a new radio on their device? what kind of benefits does it give?

I suggest you read up on radio's. Generally speaking newer versions have better reception, GPS fixed, less battery drain. Obviously area/country you are in may effect reception so best to read up on which radio's work better in which areas!
Hello out there.....
First of all i have to say THX to all these people which are really willing to help every1 with their great tutorials. Ive used alot of them already. Thanks.
And i have to say sorry for my english language, due Im german and i left school behind long time ago. I'm really taken pains to write this comment.
Now, in my case ive tried to restore my device (Xperia X1i) to OEM status step by step as its shown in this thread.
My worst issue is that my touchscreen aint work anymore after i flashed a custom ROM and that i got stock at the point where the ROM wants to configure the OS like "Tap the screen to continue with configuration".
Ive tried to flash way too much ROMs using HardSPL but the touchscreen wont let me do anything - no reaction.
So how can I restore the bootloader (SPL) on my device, when my touchscreen aint work? How can I take the following step without any working ROM ?
sirsycho said:
12. Run SSPL.KAIS.exe from your phone (make sure you do this on your actual device and not your PC)

I do not know what I did wrong, that the screen wont react anymore, but im sure that the SPL is the cause for this disaster.
I'm really desperate couz i already have sent the device to the SE Support, where they told me that there is an "extraneous" on my device although ive flashed the Stock ROM firstly... there was still something that bothered them...
After i got the device back the touchscreen worked again as funny, allthough the support did nothing on the device as they said in the delivery.
A bit skeptical but with alot of happiness i kept on flashing some ROMs after that.
Now, after i found a good ROM and kept this one on my device for some days the screen doesnt work again.....
This is what my bootloader says right now
Code:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
....seems like the HardSPL is still there......
Honistly i had to apollogize (maybe too late) that this part of using a cellphone (flashing a ROM using HardSPL etc.) is a big fish and that ive underrated it. Now i have a 400$-Device which aint work anymore
Ive read like all Tutorials here at xda-devs containing something about flashing a ROM or informations about SPLs; tried everything
I feel like im lost and fu**ed right now....
Is there any1 can help me with my problem?
Hopefully there is.....i pray for him
first flash a stock rom
then just run the hard-spl exe, and replace the ruu_signed.nbh file
why are you trying to use kaiser spl?
use the things found in the hardspl sticky in the xperia section
Wrong Tutorial
You're using tutorial for wrong device (HTC Kaiser)
The correct tutorial is in first post (extra how to: how to restore Stock SPL for warranty reasons.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
But before restoring original hardspl you should flash with original rom found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
wow thanks for your answers !!
i never thought ill get response.
Its really weird that i havnt found that tut before bcuz i was looking through whole board.
I will try do that tomorrow.
I hope that it will work then. Don't wanna pay 300$ for a new device
Else there is mtty to restore the bootloader
Aight i have done the steps showing in the tutorial.
1. I have flashed teh Stock ROM (R2A german - Vodafone)
2. I've used the RUU with the stockSPL given in that post.
Now my tricolour screen shows the following
Code:
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.0000
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
This is what it shall looks like OliNex said.
I hope this is all i had to do, to make use of my device's guarantee, cuz the touchscreen still doesnt work
Seems like i really have to send my Xperia to the Support again (now hopefully with a ROM + SPL they wont reject)
But if i send my device with "extraneous" again i have to pay another 15€ just for let them do a costs estimate -.-
I would like to get a reply before i make use of the support again.
Thanks for all your help
Glad to hear recovering to stock rom + spl worked out.
Your touchscreen doesn't work when you have booted up windows?
If that's correct then I suggest to send in the device for service. Although
it might not help I suggest updating your device with SE updating service (SEUS) first.
After the flash remove the battery for 10 seconds, then turn it on.
Hope it helps and otherwise servicing the device is free of charges
Haha!
That's what im doing right now, using SEUS
Thanks for the tip with the battery but i already tried that way too often
Edit:
Ok, touchscreen still aint work....
Time to contact the support...at 11:45 PM **WOOT
nvm....Ill wait till tomorrow
gn8 and thanks for helping me with my issue ^^
a few days ago I returned my silver X1 for the same issue, my touch screen (digitizer) doesn't work. Then right in front of SE support person, he justed took out the battery and rebooted. Then it worked. The thing is, I did the same thing several times earlier that day and it did NOT worked. I am worrying of getting the same problem again and I only have until november 30th until my 1 year warranty expires. I haven't tried any cooked roms and it is because of warranty purpose. Altough I'm not new to custom roms since I own an Alpine and a Prophet. I've been here for some time now.
The thing that holds me back testing cooked roms on my Xperia is the aftermath if in case my device goes half-dead. I almost always read the restoring on to official roms everytime I get here, but still the thousand dollar spent on my phone's tag price comes with a fear of who's gonna rescue if my phone won't work. And to add that spare parts aren't available here as of the moment. And yes I'm eager and very curious about almost everyone saying cooked 6.5 is faster than stock roms but though I haven't tested it I have to disagree for now on my case basis.
First, my Xperia doesn't come with a carrier lock. It's locally called "open line" in my country I guess technically called debranding. Then my phone has the generic r3a rom via seus I think it's generic uk. Lastly, for some reasons, the touchflo 3d doesn't work with my device I've tried it since r1 firmware time. Some response told me to unlock-debrand my phone first but I dont have to since it isn't locked. Still installing tf3d makes my phone hang, doesn't uninstall, doesn't show in the themes list if installed as a theme, and doesn't let me have another panel since it always stay as tf3d whenever I choose another one. And it is very unstable in my device. These happened even if I install it as a panel.
I feel handsets here are faster than handsets that are locked by a carrier so I'm thinking again since for now, my Xperia works for me as stock as it is.
It seems that it is possible to flash the HD2 with with out HardSpl, Is it possible to do this with the Tilt2/TouchPro2's ?
Anyone interesting taking on this project ?
I will offer up a donation to those make this a realty..
This is worth reading, it is possible to flash without Hardspl, but it is on the HD2, Here is the thread discussing it, hopefully this will be possible on the tilt2 in the near future.

[SSPL] HowTo flash cooked ROM without HSPL

I don't know. HSPL is superbly easy, and if your device is too broken to see what the SPL is, you don't have to worry about the repair center seeing what SPL is loaded. If it's still a usable albeit somewhat borked device, just find the stock SPL/ROM/radio and flash that mofo befo' shippin' it off. Hell, you're in USA and on AT$T, too. Phone insurance for thew win, dude. Went from kaiser to rhodium for $125, and free after customer service fu*ked with the wrong mofo.
I never see the point of anything but Hard SPL. I like that I never have to worry about bricking my device, no matter what I flash.
Flashing ROMs via SSPL is has always been reported as unstable. For that reason no-one has created SSPL's that allow ROM flashing in the past. Cotulla must have found something new, or everyone got lucky.
A more practical approach might be the USPL aka SplXploit (assuming that's not what Cotulla did). stepw has plenty of information regarding it on this forum, as does itsme on his personal site.
It's not going to be easy, and will require a lot more hacking ability and time than I have.
Dave
Bumping causing solving this will making trying new roms a whole lot easier ....
BTT it seems that is a good bit of success of flashing without Hardspl, but it is on the HD2, if it can be done on the HD2 then is should possible on the Tilt2 / touch Pro or any other HTC phone..
I will offer up a donation to those make this a realty.

HardSPL takes about 3 minutes, and you only have to do it once. So I don't see how being able to skip it would make it "a whole lot easier".

If you had taken the time to read the link i provided, you would have seen this..
This is an easy way to flash unsigned OS images to the HD2. It should not void your warranty like HSPLs do, because it does not change your SPL. I know for a fact, that repair centers are advised to check the SPL version number on the device.

and it would be "free" except for all the Voluntary donations the chef would receive from this..

I don't see how that makes things a "whole lot easier". It looks to be about as complex a procedure as installing HardSPL, except it has to be done every time you flash, whereas once you have HardSPL:
1) Flashing via USB requires fewer steps
2) Flashing from MicroSD is possible
3) You can flash radios
So tell me how it is a "whole lot easier" when the initial step is approximately the same complexity, and subsequent ROM flashes do not have the reduction in complexity that HardSPL provides?
The problem with the HardSPL is that it many people are having problems and they do not respond to support requests anymore, even with donations. That is why were looking to do it without HardSPL.
sounds like a coup is about to happen!
I wonder if anyone has even though about doing a port of this for the Rhodium... It would be great because it wouldn't void warranty (as far as I can tell) and nobody and use HardSPL for crap anyone because the tick system isn't checked and donating doesn't work.

So long as the SPL you have (Hard or Stock) matches closely with the original one HTC intended for that ROM, you will be fine.

So you are saying that even if I donate for hardspl it won't work?
90% chance that if you're having problems installing HardSPL, this approach is as likely to (if not more likely to) fail for you.
The only issue I've seen with HardSPL is that on some phones (such as stock Tilt 2s), you can't install it without first installing enablerapinew.cab (or something like that, I forget the exact name). This is mentioned in the HOWTOs for HardSPL, and would likely affect this approach too.

Hi People
I am not sure whether this is the correct section, but it is still ROM related.
Recently, my phone does not want to wake up sometimes...I press the button and the screen remains black..after few minutes it goes back on but is unresponsive..I have to reset my phone...this is very annoying as for example my alarm also did not sound becuase of this - I was almost late for work...
In conclusion, my 560 EUR phone is not reliable anymore and is still under warranty - I want to have it replaced.
That is where my question comes - How can I completely virginize my phone?
I always used USPL while flashing...
I will perform Task29 and should I flash some stock ROM before I go to give it to service?
If so, what is the appropriate stock ROM for my phone?
What else should I be aware of when virginizing?
Please help me guys, I really want my phone fixed or replaced - it could be the motherboard causing this and I dont want my phone to die...
THANK YOU!!

Dear friend,
first let's know what ROM have you installed on your device? I'm sure the problems that you've mentioned are not hardware problems, and in fact they are related to the ROM, since I have the same problem sometimes with some ROMs and some application. I had problem with alarm clock several times, just after flashing Energy ROMs! I reported this matter, but nobody paid attention, so I downgrade my device to kwbr WM6.1+sense2.1, now I have no problem with alarm clock.
about the another problem, I still have this problem, but I think it is related to WKTask! sometimes when I turn my device off by WKTask shortcut, I encounter the problem that you pointed, but it's not the case if I turn it off by hardware key.
Same question
I have used HSPL
and have tried several roms
Few days back my touchscreen stops responding.
flashed differnet roms but no difference. so i think its a hardware problem
(kinda works sometimes so may be just a loose link)
I want to send it for repair under warranty.. so can someone tell me how to get back to factory settings of Touch HD (German)
Prajwal
Ah, now we have 2 different cases.
1. Flash with USPL
2. Flash with HSPL
I'm almost sure that "virginizing" is described on HD Wiki, but nevermind...
Case 1. is nice and easy...
Go to HTC site and try to find update for your device. Before that, write serial and IMEI (not sure which one is needed, both are under the battery).
If there is "No suitable update", then you are in big trouble... try to find what was original ROM which was on device when it was delivered.
Case 2. is bit difficult... you HAVE TO remove HSPL and restore original SPL, then proceed as described in case 1. I think for german ROM was SPL 1.54
However, I have bought my device recently (with German ROM), but maybe earlier devices had some other SPL...
Check HD Wiki anyway...

I guess the issue is not related..I flashed a new ROM from different cook and it happened.
Nevermind...I will virginize and then have it fixed or replaced...

From my experience, HTC is usually ok as long as the SPL is an official one. No matter the one came with your phone or other older/newer version.

since you just use USPL, you just need download the official ROM from HTC page by inserting your HD serial number under ROM download. then flashed it. it think this step will solve your warranty issue.
