Unbranded Kaiser Tethering

If you have an unlimited PDA connect plan, how would AT&T know if you were tethering? Is there a way to prevent them from detecting this? Sorry for the noob question... Thanks!
If they see large amounts of data transfers, like you downloading stuff, they could slam ya for tethering. I've been using my Tilt to tether my laptop when I wanna stream my webcam from where ever I'm at, and so far I haven't been charged extra. They know you're not gonna be downloading loads of stuff to your Tilt, so that could be something that tips them off. Ya know?
Yeah, but if you have a video program that will play mpeg, or if you live on the road, you will have a lot of data going through... Is there no way for them to tell you are tethered when you use an unbranded tilt?
Doesn't matter if it's branded or not, they still see your data usage. If your usage spikes all of a sudden, they're gonna know something's up. But let's also remember it's quite hard to get the same amount of usage from your phone than your computer. Think about all the processes that use the internet on your computer, compared to your phone.
Ok, so other than usage spikes there is no way for them to detect the fact that I am tethering my unbranded Kaiser to my laptop every once in a great while? If so, that is fantastic...

Opera Mini 4.1...Full Broadband speeds over wifi!!

Hi all. sorry if this is old news, but for years my internet speeds over wifi have rarely exceeded 1.2 mbps. Since using Opera mini, I am able to get FULL BROADBAND speed (only 2 mbps in my case) and upload speeds of 236 kbps (that's faster than on my desktopPC!!)
I'm baffled. Has anyone else noticed this or as the start of my thread questions, is this old news?
I have verified that the speeds achieved are REAL, as I can browse and download faster on my PPC than I can on my desktop PC.
how are you verifying these speed? are u doing a speedtest on opera mini?
Of course you get as you're practically measuring the opera server - taget server speed, NOT that of the client.
Down/Uploading to/from the client itself is 3-5 times slower than for example from IEM because it's Java. See my latest benchmark results in the General forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386682

doesnt opera compress pictures so they download to your phone fast? If thats the case most speed tests will use a picture file for testing bandwidth. If this is the case then your tests are incorrect. please let us know what speedtest site you are using.

Either way, these fiugures ARE incorrect because the Opera server does compress both pages and images, unlike most other, direct browsers. Check out my benchmarks - they clearly show this.

sorry about the delayed response guys. thanks for the heads up Menneisyys. If you say so, it must be so, but it sure feels as fast as the speedtest implies.

O2's Diamond slow ?

Hi all,
I've just got my grubby hands on one of our staff members Diamond (they were having mail problems) and found the UI (of the phone generally, not just the TouchFlo) rather sluggish.
The TouchFlo part doesn't seem very smooth at times, and the general browsing of the phone such as Programs etc is sometimes slow to respond.
Are the Diamond's usually like this? I was thinking of getting one as my next phone (couldnt belive the size of the Diamond compared to my TYTN-II, I just love the look of the Diamond ). I remember my XDA II was kinda slow, but it was due to the programs etc that O2 pre-load onto it.
I know this particular phone is pretty much straigh out the box as it comes ... if it were my phone I would of customised the hell out of it already

The iPhone is an entertainment device that makes phone calls. It is designed for music, videos and games. So of course it does all those extremely well. The Kaiser is an all around phone, that is a compromise between entertainment and productivity. My Tilt does not play games and video extremely well, but my iPhone does not run Opera, Office or roms customized to my specific needs.
Chose what is the most important to you, and buy a phone that suits those needs.
it just seems unusable on wifi .i know what you mean with the iphone i loved my n85 because i could use it in bed lol but i feel i could fall asleep waiting for google with this
I use wifi home network & work network with my Kaiser wifi & it seems very usable to me.
I often check mail, check eBay,check EX rates & XDA forum ect if the laptop or desktop is not booted up.
Not the fastest but certainly usable & I find Opera 9.5 very good (many ****e builds so need to test a few)
do you find IE is slow ? i really want to keep the phone "i like it" maybe hard reset or updated rom is what i need
when i change a page it says at the bottom 8kb then give it a minute 10kb then pauses time passes and the bar will fill up and 14kb . i don't have the fastest bb (512KBS) but i drove to a friends house that has 8mb to test and its just the same
I doubt the device is faulty. like you say, a ROM & Radio change plus using Opera browser could see improvements. A fresh flash & being choosy with installed apps normally makes drastic improvements.
IE is slow, have not used it for over a year so can't remember how bad it was.

Why is Opera Mini slow?

Opera used to be the fastest browser on my windows phone and I expect it to be just as fast on Android. Recently I tried it for android and it's slower than the default browser most of the time. Pages can take up to 30-40 seconds to load where as the default browser will do it in 10-15. I asked my friend to try my WM phone again since I gave it to him and he says that it is also slow.
Are the Opera servers being overloaded or something? I'm about to sadly uninstall it and use skyfire. Does anyone else have this problem?
I for one sure don't have that problem..... OM has always been lightning fast for me, which is why I use it as the default browser. Only "gripe" I have with it is that sometimes it won't pinch to zoom in, and sometimes it does. There was one time I about said to hell with OM because of it, but I can't think of anything faster that would be a decent enough replacement! Skyfire sure isn't it for me, and I used to use it all the time on WinMo until I realized how terribly slow it was to load
