Ok, so i was on the latest firmware and recently downgraded to RC29. I'm on the 5.99 data plan and on the latest firmware it worked fine, but now on RC29, the EDGE is not working, i ccan't even activate the phone. Could it be a difference of the settings on the two firmwares?
I did get it to activate on wifi, however, edge is not working no more as it was before downgrading to RC29.
Second question, I have downgraded to RC29 and was asked to activate the phone again. Will this happen again in the process of rooting? because its reallly frustrating to activate over wifi. it took me like 5 hours
Yes "signing in" what you call activating is a normal process every time you load a new rom. And as for "edge" not working. Its possible you had a bad download. Just redownload the rom and reflash it. Don't forget to wipe = ]
The signing in step will come up every time you wipe your phone. It shouldn't take 5 hours though. thats weird.
Anyone else care to comment. I'm always open to learn more = ]
well it took me 5 hours cuz i had never done it before and had trouble installing the drivers. maybe edge will work if i upgrade to a newer version
anyway, how do i go about installing one of these "roms" you speak of?
oh, and whats wiping?

all of your questions can be answered in here
you install a new by flashing it through the recovery image you installed on your phone during the process of rooting it.
you wipe your phone from the recovery image. it, as the name implies, wipes the phone of all personal things. it clears data and cache and resets them to factory standard.

Ok so I got my hero about a month ago and upgraded to 2.1 last week. Terrible decision...wish I could take it back...but I hear that if you root your phone and use a custom ROM you can actually have a pretty decent experience with your phone using 2.1 I can't even list how many problems and how slow 2.1 is.
I do not know a lot at all about rooting a phone, I never have before, and the tutorials on unlocker seem to be out-dated with the 1.5 software so nothing is working for me. I have the ADP setup on my computer, I'm just wondering what's the easiest and most up to date way to root my Sprint HTC Hero so I can use a custom ROM. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
**If your software/build number (2.27.651.X) ends in 6, you must download and run this RUU first to be able to use the root exploit on your phone. If it ends in .5, skip this and click the link in the next sentence.**
Try this and if you follow it correctly, you'll be able to root your phone and be able to nandroid, and flash custom roms and what not.
Final note, all of the user data/settings on your phone will be reset, so it will be like having a brand new phone out of the box. Just an FYI.
Thank you I have successfully rooted my phone...but I'm having trouble connecting to the internet now. I cannot receive any weather data and have no internet connection at all.
I"m having the same problem, even after I set back to factory default. Not sure what I did wrong.

What problem(s) are you having in particular? Not being able to root?
I recently received a Nexus One from a friend. The bootloader is unlocked and I believe it is rooted. When I got it it kept generating some sort of process error and the phone randomly rebooted. I tried reinstalling a ROM and then the phone just sat with the "X" boot screen. 3 days later and I managed to find a ROM that makes the phone usable (22607-ERD79-update-nexusone-stock-signed). The phone ran fine with that but it is now 2 generations old and I want to update to Gingerbread. Every attempt I have made has ended with the phone just sitting there with the "X" screen after 20 mins. Clearly the updates aren't working. I'm completely confused by all of this.
I'm coming from an iPhone that I was able to jailbreak and hack with no problems. I also have experience with WinMo phones. Never had these issues.
Most of the updates seemed to install correctly. The log screen completes all the steps and ends with "Install from sdcard complete."
Running RA-nexus-v1.5.3
Please help me with this. I want Gingerbread!
First, what versions of Radio and HBoot you use?
How would I tell? Where would I find this info?
Sounds like you are not wiping data.
Whenever you change to a different rom (other than upgrading the same rom) you need to wipe the data partition, otherwise you could get bootloops, stuck at X, unstable systems, etc.
Sometimes not wiping works out okay, but in this case it sounds like it didn't.
I have tried the wiping. As I understand it, I should wipe before flashing the new ROM?
THe baseband is 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Found them!
HBOOT = 0.35.0017
radio = 5.08.00.04
so I've now upgrade to recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img
supersonic is the wrong phone.....
OK. What is the correct one?
So apparently I was provided the wrong recovery. I did a little research and believe I have the correct one now. recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img
Now should it work...
Still not working. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. This is really getting under my skin.
Can anyone offer any more info on this? Maybe walk me through it. I have to believe that I am doing something wrong as the phone seems to work otherwise.
Return to a completely stock image. Follow the unroot/restore method from the wiki, using passimg and the FRG33 image...

OP I had a similar issue. Wiped, installed, wiped, installed. No ROM was stable. It constantly rebooted.
Luckily it was under warranty and HTC replaced it. The new device is rock solid but has burn-in (Pandora buttons always visible and I don't even have Pandora installed).
They are replacing this one as well.
Hope it's under warranty. If so, HTC is great, even with an unlocked bootloader.
Good afternoon all,
I have an HTC One PN072. I've flashed the phone from Sprint to Cricket. They were very adamant about me not "resetting" the phone as it will remove the information, or flash they've added.
I've done several searches and can't seem to find a thread indicating 1) if this is possible and 2) a guide to doing so. The phone already is rooted and has TWRP on it as well.
If anyone knows of a thread I would love a link to a guide.

I have a Sprint One fully flashed to Verizon and I flash custom ROMs all the time without any problems. I have never lost any settings and I don't even have to re-activate my phone. I would think that as long as you dont use Bootloader to flash a complete RUU image you should be fine. Goin s-off if your not already might cause issues here as well. (If someone knows for sure please correct me) I would say just download a ROM and install it with TWRP. I have updated firmware as well with no issues as well, however the firmware I upgraded with did not contain a radio update, which I am hesitant to do since I imagine that will effect my flash. I did my flash myself but it seems like a headache re-doing it.

The wipes in TWRP usually recommended before flashing a custom rom don't remove their flashed data?

Not that I have ever experienced. That was true on my EVO LTE and has so far been true on my One. I have the newest TWRP and in the past two days I have flashed EclipticOne, Elegencia and Insert Coin. On my old Droids Clockwork recoveries reset worked fine as well. DONT do a factory reset from inside the ROM. I have not tried it on my One, but on my EVO and my Droid 1/2/3 phones that would undo parts of a flash and I would have to reactivate. If I were you I would just work within my current firmware and flash what was available.
It is possible for you to flash your phone back to Cricket for free but its requires a lot of setup and can be a real pain in the ass. Getting 3G on Verizon was particularly painful and I have many screen shots and pages of notes on the actual procedure. When I upgraded from my EVO to the One I managed to get it right the first time by following my notes but it was still a serious hassle.

i was thinking about getting my one flashed to verizon but how does it work?? say i get my phone flashed.. is it verizon pre paid?? does that come with unlimited data?? text & talk?? how much would my bill be a month? sorry for all the questions
I apologize, so just to be as clear as possible, if you follow all of the wipes that roms usually ask you to perform in TWRP then you should be fine? However, do not perform a factory reset in the rom itself once loaded?
Doing a wipe through TWRP's wipe feature is fine as long as you dont go into 'Advanced' and mess with settings. Do not do the factory reset within the ROM once the ROM is loaded. If, while installing a ROM, the installer wants to do a wipe, that is fine as well.
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T. Ive rooted and installed some mods and before I go further I'd really like to start from a completely clean slate just to rule out any conflicts. That said, what wipe options in TWRP do I want to use, or is reflashing the stock firmware good enough? I downloaded and reflashed the stock firmware from sammobile and it went well, but I noticed that I still have all my applications installed and everything looks the same. So, what did reflashing actually do? Did it overwrite my system files? I know I had to re-root after the flash.
Anyways, the whole point is that I'm trying to get jimmydene's unlocked wifi tether mod to work and it's still counting against my tether cap. He said it's best to start from a "clean install" and I'm not really sure what this means. Plus, I may need a stock "deodexed" ROM and I'm also not clear as to what this means even after attempting to do some research.
If someone could guide me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. First and foremost I'd like to restore my phone to complete stock like it just came out of the box, just to make sure I don't have any weird files laying around somewhere from the mods I've tried. And secondly, I'd really like to get unlocked wifi tethering to work. Thanks in advance for any help offered.
Long story shorter. Phone stolen. Phone had nandroid stored on my computer. Phone replaced by another Note 4 (PS, thief go pound sand). Didn't mess around, stock rom to Note 4 (ANK). Root. Recovery. Old image from lost phone used as recovery. (Yeah I didn't make a backup of original from new phone). Flashed over. Everything works fine. Now ready to put finger prints in. Error page pops up saying fingerprint scanner error. 72 hours of scouring this forum, internet, MULTIPLE stock rom flashes from the oldest to NJK to ANK and COG6. Clean flash, dirty flash NOTHING works. Makes no difference what I do, cannot get the fingerprint scanner to perform. Common problem, complaints all over the internet about it but NO SOLUTIONS. I have tried everything down to deleting directories and I cannot get the damn thing to work. Seriously doubt hardware issue. *#0*# sensor heading shows finger print scanner as Null and 0.0.0.0. Deleted cache. Deleted data from TIBU and now after three days I give up. Seems everyone has the problem but nobody knows why and when they do you get a half assed or worse answer as to how to fix it. Does anybody know how to get this thing working again. Do I need to flash an apk. Where can I find it. Do I need to rebuild. ? Can anyone flash that section fingerprint free and send it to me. I am just guessing. I know crap about how stuff works, I just know how to follow directions but this one has got me stumped.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You need to flash stock firmware and verify that all is stock, sometimes after returning to stock you may have a miss matching error like bootloader or modem.
After running stock run smartswitch.

Ok forgive me for my ignorance but if I run a stock firmware straight from Sammy shouldn't the bootloader and modem be part of the rom? It seems to me that doing a wipe should be like reinstalling windows, you format the drive and install the OS. There is nothing left and a complete rebuild of the file system occurs. Is this not what happens when you do a wipe in the recovery and then Odin the stock firmware? How can I be sure that when I install a stock rom everything is wiped and there is no hangers and the OS on the phone is rebuilt completely? When you say smartswitch I assume you mean the Sammy program.

Ok, I think I have found it but now I need to know how to fix it. Currently I have as follows in the about device screen:
Model SN-N910T
AHHA ------!!!!! - ANDROID VERSION 5.0
Baseband - N910TU1ANK4
Kernal version - 3.10.0-2796035 [email protected] #1 Thu Nov 13 18:01:07 KST 2014
Build number - KTU84P.N910TUVU1ANK4
So it seems the android version is wrong. Again forgive my stupidity but what exactly IS the android version. Meaning is that the baseband, the modem, what part of the stock rom is flashed wrong and where do I find that part to flash it correctly. I think I am making some progress just need input. Thanks Pp for getting me on track, now I just need a little shove to get this train rolling and maybe learn something in the process. If I fix it I then intend to write a proper write up for those lost souls out there who don't have to spend days....
So why does it say my android version is 5.0 when it should say 4.4.4?
Thank,
Freddy is getting nervous
First verify what version of the note 4 you have, Sm-N910T or Sm-N910T3 and flash proper firmware. Look under your battery.
Once you root you jumble up the phones ability to install firmware properly, and flashing stock firmware once with odin does not always secure components thus leaving you with unofficial status, "custom" and you think you went back to stock with no root but not official yet.
You need to make sure everything flashes and sticks, Model nunber, Android version, Basedand version, Kernel version, Build number.
Any of the modified components can stick and not be overwritten by stock odin flash.
Sometimes multiple flashes, or individual component flashes are required to go back to "official" stock form.
At this point you can verify that your fingerprint scanner works properly and leave it alone or proceed cautiously if root is really required ??? .
I only run stock and save myself all the headaches, I used to root back when Samsung phones where simple and less complicated without kernel security from Samsung.
I suggest latest 5.1.1 lollipop update, kitkat is primitive and outdated, you will be amazed at how well your note will run with latest firmware (with junk apps disabled).
Pp.
Here's a sample of my stock Note 4 running latest update.

Nope, I have wiped this phone a million times, reinstalled factory rom over the top of itself a dozen times, installed the baseband and bootloader separately after that and NOTHING changes it still will not work. I have read the complete internet from front to back and it seems nobody knows but the shadow.....Thanks for taking the time for trying to help me out though...
When you say wipe, do you mean factory reset?
Several resets in a row should wipe it clean. Something is stuck, could be the kernel, that will prevent a clean install.
You need to find a way to wipe partitions individually using ADB on the PC, that should allow for a clean install.

try doing this...
1st - run chainfire triangle away v3.26
2nd - boot into recovery and wipe everything 3 times except external sdcard.. especially data...
3rd - boot in download mode and ODIN whatever firmware u wanna use... 2 times...
happened to me when the note 4 first came out... I had to exchange to a new note 4...
also whenever u do a nandroid.. U MUST REMOVE ANY SAVED FINGERPRINTS... so u can use that backup again..
if u restore a nandroid with a saved frintprints, it won't work, u must delete data and start fresh..
I don't know if u messed it up by restoring a nandroid from a previous phone and with saved fingerprints stored...
will do thanks for the advice will advise
Nope, nothing I do including stock or otherwise works. When you hit +#0*# it says null and 0.0.0.0 unless someone knows something I don't, it's borked. The thing is even if I used a nandroid and it overwrote my fingerprints where the ones in the nandroid so you would think it would work. Chalk it up to who knows....thanks anyway. Still looking if anyone finds solution....
