How to get out of TRICOLOR screen. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Little help here. Phone is stuck on TRICOLOR screen. I was down grading to RC29. Update goes 100% and failed.
Now everytime phone reboots goes straight to TRICOLOR screen.
I have downloaded 10 Different DREAMIMG.nbh files but none of them are working.
Also try to Extract it NBHextractor and it tells me that file is not valid.
Any help will be appreciated.

what part of the world are you living in?

Is that really answer to my question?

Yes so we can tell you which SPL verson you need to flash.

I have a T-Mobile G1 (US).

depending on where you live there are different DREAIMG.nbh that you have to use. did you get the RC-29 file from this thread.
also it has to be named DREAIMG.nbh not DREAMIMG.nbh, and since it keeps booting into that screen is your camera button stuck

I have tried that already and as i mentioned that i have tried 10 Different files from 10 different threads and locations but same thing.
Update goes 100% and then it came up DREAIMG.nbh --- failed in red.
and it says Update failed.
Everytime i turn on the phone and it goes straight to TRICOLOR screen.
I was hoping someone can help to get out os this TRICOLOR screen.
I have tried all combinations Camera+POWER. HOME+POWER no matter what it goes to the same damn screen.

2 other things i can think of.
1. check the md5sum of the download
2. try booting without the sdcard in. also you could take off the battery cover and see if the camera is really stuck or not

I can check md5sum on the files which i have not tried it yet.
As far as the camera button concerned i have checked it couple of times and it's working fine.
One other i noticed the Board Revision is EVT. would that makes any difference ?

Not unless you are trying the danger spl, but you didn't brick it because you can get into bootloader. But you still need a flashboot spl to push the update as a last resort. You say 10 different spl files, but you never said where you got it so we can verify they are the correct files.
This all will go a lot smoother if you you would calm down and explain everything.

Most of the NBH files i have downloaded the link posted in the forums.
How can you push spl while the phone is not going into recovery mode?

did you get it wet?
my 8 month old had my phone in his mouth for about 30 seconds. It was long enough till fill the back with slobber and short out the phone. It took over an hour for the phone to even turn back on. And after it did I would keep getting stuck at the SPL screen. BUT, 1 out of say 30 or so tries to restart the phone it actually boots. So my guess is that there is something shorting out the contacts under the camera button unless you can't get into recovery either. I can get into recovery which is why I know there is a short of some sort.

Trying to Root

I have followed the steps in the guide and I have searched but have not found the same issue. On the first step where I flash RC29 it goes through and says that it completes successfully but then when it reboots it sits on the G1 screen. I let it sit like that all night and still will not start up. I have tried reflashing RC29 and different downloads of RC29 but still can not get it to load.
Reload the dream file and start from scratch. Check the forum for the unrooting thread if you don't know where to get it or how to flash it.
This also assumes you can get to a recovery screen........
Unfortunately, I have tried that and I have tried several different dream files. Every time it says that the flashing was successful. It just wont reboot.
Can you list the exact steps you took?
What region is your phone from? RC29 is US, RC7 is UK.
Hah, 1024 posts! *nerd-gasm* Continue...
I formatted the class 6 4gb sd card to fat 32, copied on RC29 image.
I turned off the phone. Holding in on the camera button hit power the rainbow screen came up it then flashed, it came back and said successful. I hit the action button, it started to reboot and just stayed on the G1 Screen.
It is a US phone. I tried doing the European build but it said it was not a match and would not flash.
It is the PVT board as well.

Phone stuck at startup (T-Mobile G1) Screen

Help me please.
I had a HTC Dream I guess, flashed it with wrong ROM, which was made for HTC Hero.
From then on, the phone just doesn't work
1. I tried the recovery mode and reboot mode (Home + Power), (Home + Back) as well as Home + Camera. Nothing Works. It's still stuck at the startup screen <Black background shows white text says G1 T-Mobile.>
2. I tried pulling out the battery and put it back and tried to power it up. I retried the above step. Still the same.
3. I tried pulling out the SD Card as well and tried to power it up and retried the step # 1. Still the same.
I did try searching for similar posts but there are way too many and I have been digging them for the past 4 hours but couldn't find anything useful
Guys, Please share if anyone has any idea.
Thanks in advance
Steven
If home+power and camera+power don't work your phone is bricked.
also, post this in Q&A. this is either gonna get locked or moved.
and yes you are bricked.
You may not be bricked if you did not flash special spl or new radio, however, you will probably need fastboot/adb method.
Try searching, this has been addressed many times. Also try posting in right place next time too, although it will be a while since you've been a member since 2006 but this is your first post.

What he said, but flashing a theme shouldnt brick your phone, only flashing an SPL or radio or something along those lines typically.

Stuck on bootloader screen.

So I had root access. (i.e. when I first booted my G1 up it said something about a developer phone) and I tried flashing the dreaimg.nbh file to go back down to RC29. It fails every time won't let me do anything else. It just stays srtuck on the bootloader screen when I try to reboot. I've tried about everything I could think of and I'm at wits end. I really hope this problem can be fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions or know what went wrong? Thanks.
Re-download dreaimg.nbh file again. The one you're using may be corrupted.
Why do you want to go RC29 if you have root access? You should be able to flash anything on your phone as is, RC29 is only needed to gain the root.
It won't let me do anything. I'm unable to do anything to the SD card. Although, while typing this I just thought of something. If I got a card reader I could erase the file from my card since I can't do anything to the phone. Maybe that would work. But who knows because I've tried removing the card and booting up and it remains stuck on the bootloader screen. I literally can not do anything else, it's just permanently stuck like that. So I can't mess with anything. And the reason I was trying to downgrade is because I was trying to start all over again but I think I might have ended up screwing myself instead...
I am may be wrong, and please forgive me if I am, but from your post count I am getting the picture that you're pretty new to this.
Tell me if what you did is any different from these steps
You booted phone into h-boot mode holding power and camera buttons
Your phone found dreaimg.nbh and ran it on it's own.
You restarted the phone and got stuck in the boot loop.
Confirm that this is what happened
No, your assumption is not wrong at all. I am pretty new to this.
Yes, I did reboot my phone while holding down the camera button.
It found dreaimg.nbh and ran it but it failed so now I'm stuck in the boot loop with it constantly trying, and failing, to load dreaimg.
Thanks so much for your quick responses.
When it says "failed to load dreaimg.nbh" it means that it does not see it. I have a feeling that a file that you had was zipped.
Let's do this
Boot into recovery by holding power and home buttons
select wipe/factory reset or something along those lines and try booting up a your phone again. I'll be lurking around so just post what you find.
Take a note of which recovery you're running while you're at it too.
No, the file I had was not zipped I don't think cause it sees it and tries to update. It says update in progress then I get the progress bar but when it's finished it tells me: Update Terminate. Update Fail. Then it just goes back to the multi-colored bootloader screen and won't shut off. I can reset it by pressing call+menu+end but then it just starts all over again. So, I can't boot into recovery mode. Matter of fact, the only way to turn the phone off is to remove the battery. Otherwise, it just starts in bootloader mode and continues this viscous cycle.
At this point I don't even care about installing a ROM or anything, I just want a working phone.
I see. Yep.. you're S.O.L.
Just to make sure... when your phone is off and you hold power and home buttons it just goes to h-boot screen, right if so then unfortunately there's only one thing to do: get a card reader, re-download .nbh file and start over. At this point you have no working recovery or rom on your phone. Once you get that going you should be on your way to secure a root and flash whatever rom you need to.
Is it even fat32?
Damn. That's what I thought. I should have just left well enough alone until I did more research and knew exactly what I was doing but I get ADD when I'm hungover. Oh well. Thanks for your help.
This will happen from time to time.. it's always desirable to have a card reader handy. Also.. since you have nothing to loose, this would be a great time to re-format and re-partition your sdcard so you can start squiky clean.
Good luck.... let us know when this is worked out by adding [SOLVED] to the title of this thread.

Can't flash, hard reset, boot screen, anything!

Earlier this evening I decided to try to get Android working on my Tilt. Through several series of failure to get everything working properly I decided, screw it, I'll go back to WinMo for now.
However, Custom_RUU doesn't work when Windows doesn't recognize a phone...
Oh well. No big deal. I'll flash from my microSD.
Except that I can't get my phone to go to the bootloader.
When I try (holding the camera button) it just stay on the splash-screen indefinitely.
Otherwise, it proceeds to enter Android as per the usual.
This is very frustrating as it renders my phone useless until this is resolved.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
60 views and nobody has any ideas?
Pleeeeeeaaase???
Bootloader is press and hold camera and power buttons while doing a soft reset.
I have tried that. I have tried every combination of buttons whilst reseting possible and it either hangs on the bootsplash or proceeds to boot a non-working Android.
Time to recheck everything's by the book for microSD flashing

So if it's proceding to boot a non-working andriod installation on occasion, then the bootloader is still working (at least some of the time). On those occasions, if you've set up the microSD flash card correctly, it should grab the files off of there and procede to flash itself. You'll need to recheck that everything is correctly setup for microSD flashing. What does the 'splashscreen' as you call it read?
Bootloader for kaiser is camera + power or camera + soft reset holes. The camera button sometime have to be press accurately to get bootloader. It happen to me as well when I bricked my kaiser flashing a full cooked ROM without flashing stock first.

It shows the custom splash screen. No radio info or anything like it used to. It shows the splash screen and then boots. It used to show radio info and version, etc.

I guess that means for those who do want to go the Android way, they need to do so from default HTC provided ROMs (or at least bootloaders/SPLs). You need to try to get into the Bootloader as already explained in this thread (which is the 4 coloured screen and NOT a customised splash screen) before you have any hope of rectifying things. There are good threads about how to recover from being stuck at the Bootloader so you'll need to do some searching and wiki reading.
As Flying Kiwi states, you should look here stuck in bootloader

G1 Worked... Now it doesnt.

So I have this g1 sitting here for a few months- great looking phone, not a scratch on it...total virgin- no water damage or anything... a true spectacle compared to me daily driver (water damaged g1 with cm 5.07 on it... broken camera, broken wifi module <or so i am guessing since its been that way through all of the different roms ive tried... just shuts off> )
Back to the point-
This spectacle of a g1 - has but one issue... the digitizer doesn't work. No clue why- just wont respond... the g1 has been wiped so I have been stuck @ a "touch the android in its naught spot to continue" screen for a while...
Just decided today that I would try and get cm 5.07 on it... I was remembering (correct me if I am wrong) that android 2.1 didnt bother you with that "touch me" screen when you first booted it up.
So I began with a wipe through recovery- ... formated my sd to fat 32, and threw my DREAIMG.NBH (RC29) on it.
hit the boot loader (camera + power) - boots up as normal- grey screen for the update, and continued with it. Got an OK on each item down the list...looking good.
Update done- hit the power button to finish it- goes back to boot loader displaying the rainbow screen with:
DREAM100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
Sep 2 2008
Serial 0

So at this point its all looking great to me- I hit call + menu + power and phone begins to reboot.
But gets stuck @ the freaking tMobile G1 Screen...
I can still access the boot loader... but Ive tried 6 different downloads, re formatted the sd card 3 times, tried a second sd card... tried a copy of RC30 ... nothing works... I get stuck at the G1 screen every time.
I cannot access recovery! Just sticks at G1 screen.
What now? Is this G1 a paper weight?
THANKS!
I don't know if this works with a stock rom, but did you try to get a logcat while it hangs at the g1 screen? Might be useful...
Logcat
I cant do anything :/ Only ability I currently have is to boot the phone via fast boot with a DREAIMG.NBH or sit at a boot screen.
Is there a modified DREAIMG.NBH I should try and run?
Thread moved to Q&A.

I had a G1 refurb from HTC on which the digitizer did not work properly. No matter what ROM I installed, same problem, no accurate touch response. It was a hardware issue with the phone. I know it doesnt help with the phone hanging on boot. As far as that, it's a tough one. If you only have the stock SPL (rainbow screen) and no modded recovery, you can't do much other than use a .nbh (release key signed ROM/stock ROM) to flash a ROM. Unless there another backdoor I'm unaware of. Good luck!
CM roms need danger SPL, if you're on the "rainbow" screen - you don't have it. You shou've not run NBH because that takes away the root and brings you back to RC29. Sound's like you're out of luck on this one. However, now would be a good time to swap out that digitizer for the one out of "mother-of-all-problems" phone.
Good luck.
danger
I know CM roms need Danger- but at the point I was at I had no way of flashing danger, I needed to first root the phone... the way I have rooted all my G1's was using RC29 first (DREAIMG.NBH) and then using the "type anywhere" exploit to give the phone root administrative rights.
After that i load up a good recovery image, do a nandroid back up etc etc...
Im just not sure why it just died half way through the process- its strange that I can still access the stock boot loader and flash an image but yet nothing happens.
Is it possible for me to flash an image OTHER than RC29- and where could I access that image download?

That all sounds like it should be working but I would try one more thing. You say you have a second G1. I would try formating the sd card in that phone. It may make a difference. If that does not work you may want to search this forum for "gold card" instructions.
Good luck.
