Read some guides and there is a big NO NO when it comes to changing Radio/SPL on a DVT boraded G1.
Is there any way to know before I purchase a G1 if it is has PVT or DVT board?
And is there anyway to get JAChero rom working if it is a DVT when I get it home?
/Andre'
Most common board is a pvt, when you do get your dream/g1, turn off the phone and hold the camera and power buttons to turn it on and enter the bootloader and the first thing it says is the board type, most likely will be a pvt 32b
thanks.
So if it is a DVT, just sell it and try another one
/Andre'
Yup you could do that, or ***** about something stupid like it won't stay connected to the data connection and demand a exchange

*EDIT IN BOLD* I let my phone "charge," (it has no LED signals now when it charges) then took the battery out, pressed and held the menu button and placed the battery back in. The phone is now working and has booted up. I hope that helps anyone else that encounters this problem.
---original post:
I've done a search for this topic on several forums and tried several things, but at this point nothing is helping. This is my last shot at fixing this phone or getting something else entirely. Tmobile recommends replacing the phone.
My phone has been running slow for a few days, but today it started freaking out and flipping between screens or opening apps all by it's self. It locked up and nothing worked, not even powering down, so I removed the battery. When placed back in, the phone goes to the bootloader screen without even being turned on. None of the buttons are sticking, either, and the camera button appears to be fine, even clicking when pressed.
I did a a reset on it, wiping it and rebooting, but the phone goes straight back to the bootloader screen. I tried to plug it in to charge and start over, but it's not even charging. In fact the phone won't do anything when it's plugged in and when I take the battery out the bootloader screen stays as long as it's plugged in.
The screen currently says:
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Sept 2 2008
If it's plugged in, it will sit at this screen and do nothing, but if it's not a white bar crosses the screen stating:
"Serial0"
When it turns back on, I press and hold the menu from the bootloader screen I see the words:
Loading
No image found
I'm not sure what to do with it at this point, other than a nice paperweight.
Well, I was completely wrong about the "fix." It seems the phone does indeed load, but the arrow key and power key do not work at all. I have to use the home button, the phone is slow, and it flips through different screens on it's own. When I finally do power down, it goes back to the bootloader.
Also, the phone is running hot and staying hot. It loses it charge super fast, maybe because it won't stay idle.
I'm thinking I'll have to contact tmo at this point. D:

If you do (which you should not), don't tell them you were rooting it. That's a get-out-of-warranty-free card.
Another one??
Seriously? Another junior member starting another question thread in the development section?
It sounds like hardware issue with your phone, to be honest. I mean, get to recovery (if you can) do a total wipe, and reformat your sdcard, then flash your rom again. (I'm guessing you ARE rooted and running a custom rom?) If that does nothing, yeah, see if you can send it back to tmo.
And.... dude? This forum is NOT for questions. It's for contributing to Android development on the HTC Dream. Hence... Dream Android Development. You're not doing any development, so don't start a thread here! Sorry to take it out on you, but there's been a flood of these lately. Questions go in the forum called Dream Q&A (HINT: The "Q" stands for Question), Android development goes in Dream Android development. See how nifty that is?
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A Forum
lol you should just have it replaced. this could mean more problems down the road
Actually, no, I never rooted and never planned on it. Because I don't know what to do, nor do I desire to mess up my phone by doing something I don't fully comprehend. Rooting serves no purpose for me, and I like how it looks so why go for a custom mod?
These problems just started up on there own, which I was told by tmo it was a hardware issue, but by a friend that it was software related. This is the 4th phone that has bugged out on me since I've had tmobile and honestly I'm disappointed with it and their service. I didn't want to wait for warranty AGAIN. But I guess I have to.
Nothing seems to fix the phone, it no longer charges or goes into safe mode, so it may just be dead.
As for posting it in the wrong place, that was my fault and I'm sorry, lol. No worries for the yelling, it got moved anyway, and thanks.
And I'm not a dude. I'm a chick.
Guess I should state, I was here to see if I could fix it before I go to tmo, because if I get another refurb that quits working after 2 months I'll be leaving them for good.
I guess we can consider this closed, because if my friend can't help me, I'll be in the stores checking out Sprint and Verizon's new androids. Or stick with tmo and check out the Cliq. I'm not happy with HTC or their products and I rushed into buying the g1 for the mytouch to come out 1 week later. So, lesson learned.
And thanks for the replies.
LOL! You phail... If you have an issue with HTC phones, perhaps this phone is more up your alley. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UWuhkLMS00k/SsTb87QXjKI/AAAAAAAAAdw/N9thWXu30nc/s320/phone.jpg
So, I have a T-Mobile G1, and lately, I was trying to install different custom ROMs to check out which one suits me.On the Android Spin site I noticed JesterBlur, and looked it up.It said in a thread that in order to install it I must have the Haykuro's SPL.I was previously using cyanogenmod with cm recovery 1.4, and when I installed the SPL the phone asked me to reboot.Ever since, when I press the power button to open it,it gets stuck on th T-mobile G1 screen. No combinations work, including Camera + Power.Any ideas anyone?
It's dead. 1.33.2005 SPL requires the 26i radio, which you should have had already.
if you bought the phone on a contract walk in to the store and say that after accepting an update the phone rebooted and will not turn on. Try so sound as un-techsavvy as possible. They should replace it.
Eitherwise you either need to buy a new one, or replace the motherboard (thus replacing the borked nand).
First of all thanks for replying so quickly.
And secondly.....The phone might not be exactly the T-mobile G1, but an Android Dev Phone 1......I just said T-mobile G1 because they're very similar...Oh and I also tried the conbination Trackball + Power and a blue led appers.Anyone knows what it means? And since I can't quite take it for a service, does anyone know ANY way to restore my phone?ANYTHING!Even if I have to do it manually.....It's useless in this condition anyway.......
Only thing you can do to getting working again is to replace the motherboard. Doesn't look too hard and I'm sure you can pick up G1's with cracked screens on ebay pretty cheap.
I tried installing Super D 1.11 and I think I may have bricked my phone..
When I start it up, the phone vibrates then shows the Rogers logo. The buttons also light up as well. But if I try holding home+power, or camera+power, nothing happens. No bootloader, no recovery, no nothing. Just the Rogers logo.
So did I brick my phone?
Is there any way to fix it?
That sure sounds like a brick. What did you do to cause it? (i.e. write down the exact steps you took...)
I could be wrong here, but isn't the rogers dream a 32a board, like the mytouch fender/headphone jack, while regular g1s are 32b boards? If that is the case then you can't flash regular g1 roms to your phone, you have to use rogers dream roms, or fender/headphone jack mytouches.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that though.

Hello,
Some time ago I flashed my HTC G1 on a new ROM - EzGingerbread.
(h t t p ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356)
All is correct except sound.
I noticed that my phone rings quietly.
After I noticed that I can't make sound quiet or laud by hardware button.
What is this? - and I listened to front and rear speaker.
I heard, that an any mode (rings, alarm, playing media files) sounds only front speaker.
What is wrong? I think, may be not correct radio? Or anything else?
Help, please!

nothing to do with radio/spl, you have the correct ones but even if you didn't it wouldn't affect the hardware volume buttons. it is quite unlikley it is fault of the rom but rather a coincidental hardware faliure, you can try flashing the rom again with a full wipe or even another rom to see if things change

Hello!
My phone switched off because it ran out of battery and when I tried to charge it it showed me a white screen with "active cmdline overflow (1613 bytes)" flashing at the bottom. I've Googled and read threads and they were all talking about flash kernels and all and I have absolutely no idea what any of that means. I've never downloaded or upgraded anything in my phone to alter the programming; I am a noob. The last Andriod system update was months ago. I have no idea what to do now. 'Recovery' brings me back to the same screen, as does 'Reboot'/'Fastboot'/'Reboot bootloader'. Now the screen is exactly the same except it no longer says "active cmdline overflow (1613 bytes)". I have yet to try factory reset as I just got back from an overseas exchange and I haven't downloaded all my photos to other devices. My laptop recognises that there is a HTC device connected to it, but it does not allow to do anything to the phone.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

In my opinion: send it off to repair now. don't try fixing it.
You don't seem to have unlocked or flashed anything, so you can safely assume it's a hardware problem, and if you try to mess with your phone now, you're just going down a deep hole.
@cschmitt just tagging you for info
Thank you!
I've sent it for repair. They say it's not in their policy to recover any data though. :/ I guess there's no other way...

I can imagine it's not what you were hoping for, but even had you tried, what we do here, the first thing would be to unlock your bootloader.... and that in itself would have wiped your phone completely, with zero chance of any recovery... AND you would have lost any kind of chance on warranty.
It's quite clear that it's a hardware defect, so they should repair it, but the loss of pictures (and any other data) is always a "not so nice" feeling (so i avoid using the other word )
Always, keep your "camera upload" to dropbox enabled, then you still have most/some of them somewhere in the "cloud".
Sorry

Whoa I have no idea what that means but the phone's with the repair centre now so all I can do is wait and pray. :/ I'm still under warranty so at least I don't have to pay for it. ^^ I never backup my data online because I don't like having so much personal stuff floating about in the net... But I guess I'm gonna have to start doing so. Thank you so much for your concern and advice though! I was siriusly crying at the shop when they said they were gonna delete all the data before they can start attempting any repairs; I think I scared the staff lol.

What I meant was, that if you had already unlocked your bootloader and "messed" with your phone, then fine, we could try fixing it (would have lost the information most likely anyway).
But you didn't "mess" with your phone, so the safest action is to send it to repair... and unless they put some serious (and probably futile) effort, into trying to recover the data, it's just not going to happen.
If it makes you feel any better, on my old Sensation, with MicroSD card which I can take out anytime I like, plug it into my PC, and have all kinds of software try to fix things.... I still lost most of the photos on it, that were never saved anywhere else
... i still keep them on my PC, though the files are nulls, not even a little thumbnail
