Themes? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was just wondering on if i get around to installing a theme what if i don't like the theme after while how do i get back to the stock one?
and just to clarify this is how i install a theme right?
put theme zip in sim root
boot in recovery and push Alt+s

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519924
Some themes have a template, which to my understanding is the stock theme, could be wrong. Or just reflash and don't wipe.

to put a theme on your phone, put on the root of your sdcard (not in a folder) if you do not have cyanogen's 1.4 recovery, then rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery, then select update.zip:sdcard (something like that) or install any .zip (if you have the 1.4 recovery image), then once it finishes flashing and tells you to reboot. either select rebooot now or hold home and back.
to wipe a theme just reflash the version of the rom you are using.

Black/red theme help!

Hey everyone! So I have a rooted G1 that I bought off Craigslist a couple months ago and through the help this website found out how to update my phone to the new 1.6 firmware. But I won't lie...I have NO IDEA what any of this information about my phone means.
Firmware version
1.6
Baseband version
62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version
[email protected]#2
Build number
DRC83
So then after I updated the phone to the 1.6 firmware, I wanted to download a theme to the phone. I downloaded TheOfficialHERO Theme (v2) and I really like the theme a lot but I don't like the black/green color combo. So I wanted to know if there were any themes out there in black/red that would work with my phone? ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
firmware is obvious, baseband is radio version, kernel/build is what rom/mod.
try whichever roms you like, but cyanogen's version has the most themes available.
my personal favorite theme atm is minus by david1171. he did a great job making it all black and white but very clean, so you could add a red background if you wanted and it would look pretty sweet. also, check out community hero mix or dark dream. both should be pretty easily customized.
or you could do it the hard way and edit TheOfficial yourself by extracting files from the zip.
upgrade yourself to cyanogen 4.1.999 (i recommend using the single flash one), and then check out sir mez's 5 themes + 1 animation- it's a red and black theme.
Okay cool. Thank you for responding! How do I upgrade my phone to Cyanogen 4.1.999? Is there a link on here? Would I still have the new 1.6 firmware?
search for appropiate firmware.
put update.zip image in SD Card. then apply s card image from recovery menu.
So it's the same way I installed the other firmware I have now. Does Cyanogen 4.1.999 have a lot of issues? I've read mixed reviews about using it.

Cyanogen in my opinion has the best rom out. If there's an issue, then he will fix it. Plus he adds more and more features. Yes my M_Blend theme is black and red. Take a look at my signature and click on the link to see a preview. I also have prodigal_sun red and black but that's for cyanogens stable build.
Which version of Cyanogen do I have to run in order to have the M_Blend theme? Which by the way is AMAZING! I love it!
This is all new to me...sorry for all the questions.

If you want a red/black theme, check out Armyrangers theme. All red/black and a ton of really nice artwork included. I havent ran it myself, but I am pretty sure I read it has been ported for the official 1.6 build.
I can't seem to figure out how to download Cyanogen 4.1.999 (to even get all the good red/black themes you guys are telling me about)
I tried to install the Cyanogen recovery image, flash android 1.6 and then the actual ROM 4.1.999 and when I hold the camera/power button the rainbow looking screen comes up saying:
Drea110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Nothing loads or anything like that. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a 2GB SanDisk SD card. Is there a certain way I have to install everything since I currently have the HTC ADP 1.6 DR83 on my phone?
Thanks again for all the help!
You have to flash in reocvery with home and power
Before you do all the steps, download these three files and place them on your sd card. Make sure you remove any other files with similar names so you do not get confused (i.e.- remove the previous cyanogen and recovery image that you downloaded)
You need:
1) amon_ra's 1.2.3 recovery image -this one has many features and you do not need to rename anything to "update.zip"- it reads any .zip file
2) [ROM] Cyanogen's 4.1.999 - Update 10-12 (Full Update REV.2 - Single Flash)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569825
3) Sir Mez's 5 themes, 1 animation M_Blend theme
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569160
Steps to Install:
1) get amon_ra's recovery image and follow directions that say via console
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
2) after you have the recovery image installed. press GREEN (TALK) BUTTON + MENU BUTTON + RED (END) BUTTON together to reboot your phone and then quickly let go once it reboots and hold the HOME button until you get to the recovery screen.
3) From here you just scroll and select your options using your trackball and push down to select. First select NANDROID BACKUP- you need this in case anything goes wrong so later you can just NANDROID RESTORE. Now "go to console" and press "enter" and then type "utility"- this will give you options. If you have apps already installed that you do no want to lose, choose COPY APPS to FAT32 (this copies the apps from your ext to your sdcard). Then after that is done, go back to recovery typing whatever options allows you to do so- i believe it is "r" and then enter.
4) Select wipe data
5) Select wipe ext
6) There are two update.zip options, you need to choose the second one which allows you to install any .zip file.
7) Find the cyanogen 4.1.999 file you placed on your sd card and select it to install it
8) You will return to the recovery screen, do not reboot. Now again select the update any .zip file and select Sir Mez's M_Blend theme. Install that.
9) Now reboot
MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS WORD FOR WORD! if you need help further, just PM me.
This is what I was following, but none of this works when I try it.
Cyanogen Recovery Image
1. Download this file: http://cyanogenmod.com/download/recovery/cm-recovery-1.4.img
2. Move that file to your SD card (you may need to unplug your phone now so the computer unmounts the SD card, or unmount manually).
3. Back in your Telnet Client, type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img" and press Enter
File Download
1. Go to http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3 and download Android 1.6 Recovery Image.
2. Download CyanogenMod 4.1.999 at http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/experimental/update-cm-4.1.999-signed.zip
3. For Magic32A users only: Download the 32A kernel at http://fdsfiles.com/temp/rad-4.1.99-32a-bfs303.zip
4. Now put all of those files on your SD card.
5. Turn your phone off.
Flash Android 1.6 & CyanogenMod 4.1.999
1. Turn your phone off.
2. Hold the Home and Power buttons to get to Recovery mode.
3. Press Alt-W on the G1 Keyboard or select the wipe option and confirm.
4. Press Alt-A on the G1 Keyboard or select the 3rd option.
5. Select "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip", and then press the Home button to confirm.
Do not reboot your phone yet!
6. Once installation is complete, Press Alt-A on the G1 Keyboard or select the 3rd option again.
7. This time, select "update-cm-4.1.999-signed.zip", and then press the Home button to confirm.
8. For Magic32A users only: Again press Alt-A or choose the 3rd option.
9. For Magic32A users only: Select rad-4.xxxx.zip, then press the Home button to confirm.
10. When this is complete, reboot your phone by pressing Home & Back. This will take a couple of minutes.
If that's all you wanted to do, you're done!
But I will try what you said right now Opasha and see if that works!
If you still have a backup of enomther's 1.6, flash it, as it takes about 10 minutes to set up a red and black theme. Just flash the minus theme (looks great), then use Sir*mez's excellent red & black icons from prodigal sun red (or his new, extremely nice theme), and a red/black wallpaper, and you are set. I did it with my phone, and it looks great.
Thanks for all the responses! But BIG thanks to Opasha! He's knows his stuff, spent a good amount of time with me on gtalk yesterday fixing my phone! Now I have Cyanogen 4.1.999 (with not a single problem) and Sir*mez's amazing M_Blend theme! I LOVE IT!
Saved for future references.

[Q] guide needed to install theme on Darky's rom

Hello All,
I tried to install the “(VALLE-MOD)HoneyComb theme v.1.1!! MAJOR UPDATE with some minor fixes!”
From: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958788
And the “[THEME]Generation X - V2.0 CYAN&HARD-BLUE ADDED - JPU/X/Y/JS3 - 4LOCK [04-02-11]________________________________________
From: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898892
I start the phone in the recovery mode (CWR) and tried to apply the “Install from zip file”
I receive notification that the THEME was installed successfully but when I reboot the phone it stuck with the Galaxy icon.
And I have to apply the rom again.
I saw the application Z4control that can install theme with this app but I couldn’t find where to download or how to install it.
Can any one send me detailed guide how to install theme or how to install the z4control
Thanks in advance
Shlomi
I have the Generation X - V2.0 RED installed on my galaxy S using Darky's ROM and itt works fine.
This is how I install mine:
1. Install Darky's config app from the market and set your preferences. I use voodoo kernel + no modem install + all the other options.
2. Reboot in recovery and install the room from the zip
3. Reboot the phone and let it do it's thing to configure the room.
4. Unlock your SIM and make sure the phone works with the ROM
5. If all is well reboot in recovery and install the theme from the zip
6. Reboot and enjoy.
Now some questions, based on your symptoms sounds like a ROM issue and not a theme issue. Did your phone boot OK after you installed darky's ?
Also what model do you have I9000, I9000-M, T959, T959-D, etc .. ?
Hi Rebbinio,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I ibstall the rom, boot the phone, use darky's configuration tool, every things works.
Now i boot to cwr and applied the theme, everything goes fine but the phone won't boot.
I think i did everything you did except from uninstallung the modem and my phone was unlocked so....
I don't know, someone told me i should delete the framework.jar from the thene????,
Why did you click on "Update from zip"? ...
if you are on Darky´s ROM you just put the Theme on the INTERNAL SD Card... Reboot to recovery and flash it
HowTo:
Reboot to recovery
choose "Install zip from sdcard"
choose "zip from sdcard"
Look for the theme and click on it
Then scroll down to YES
Go back
REBOOT
The theme should now be installed and everything should be working

Maybe you can try backup and then delete "bootanimation.zip" from system/menu using root explorer first. Then try flash the theme again. If after the flash you got stock bootanimation galaxy s, don't worry just paste back the bootanimation.zip or you can flash other bootanimation.zip thru CWM. That is what I did when I flash Honeycom theme on Darky 9.3 beta3 ROM. And of course give them sometime to reboot. Hope you make it.
the same probleme please help
darky's rom 9.2 extremeafter download most of themes
1. boot into CWR
2. select install from zip - and I choose the theme.

I wrote by mistake "update from sip"
actually i choose "install from zip"
the installation completed successfully but still the phone stuck showin the Galaxy icon
any advise?

[STOCK ROM] MotoBlur 6.13.215 for Safestrap (SAFE MODE)

* WARNING: WE DO NOT HAVE A FASTBOOT TO FIX YOUR PHONE SHOULD YOU BOOTLOOP AND BE UNABLE TO ENTER RECOVERY **
** YOU INSTALL AND USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK **
Want to freeze some bloatware or make changes to your System but are nervous because we don't have a fastboot restore?
Interested in a stock ROM to safely deodex and test?
Safestrap *MAY* be the answer you're looking for. Read more about it here:
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/how-to-safestrap_24.html
Here is a link to a *SAFESTRAP ONLY* Stock ROM for the Droid 4: 6.13.215:
http://bit.ly/y6FEjv
md5sum: c19d09fe0db646a8916985c1e672eee5
Install this in Safestrap after ENABLING Safe Mode, and as long as you keep it enabled while running your phone, if you make a mistake by freezing too much or if you're deodexing and hit a bootloop, you won't be screwed.
Because Safe Mode is enabled, you should be able to get back into recovery to restore a backup or reflash this ROM so that you can boot back up.
What it contains:
- MotoBlur for Droid 4 (6.13.215)
- A few of the obvious bloatware have been removed: Netflix, NFL TV, Slacker Radio, etc.
- Pre-rooted with Superuser
To Install:
1. Be rooted
2. Install the APK for Droid 4 Safestrap found here (BE SURE YOU'RE GETTING THE DROID 4 VERSION):
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/android-downloads_24.html
3. Once installed open up the application and use "Install Recovery"
4. Make sure you have this .zip on your SD card
5. Reboot the phone and enter Safestrap Recovery by pressing the [menu] button while the Safestrap boot screen is displayed
6. - MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR NON-SAFE SYSTEM FOR DISASTER RECOVERY BY CHOOSING (FUNCTIONS SIMILAR TO CWRecovery)
- Controls in recovery are: scroll up = volume up button, scroll down = volume down button, select = power button
- Scroll down and select "backup and restore"
- in the "Nandroid" menu choose "Backup"
- Optionally include webtop in the backup (probably want a 1 for the full backup)
- Confirm
This will take a while ... so be patient.
- Once that's done you can use the [back] soft key on the front of the phone or scroll down to "+++++Go Back+++++" and use that to go back to the main menu
7. Now that we made a full backup, we can turn on Safe System, scroll down to "safe boot menu" and select
8. Select "Toggle Safe System"
This will also take a few moments while your main /data was stashed away.
9. Now that we have Safe System "Currently: ENABLED" (should see this at the top of the screen), we can flash a ROM
10. Make sure you're on the main menu, and scroll to "install zip from sdcard" and select
11. select "choose zip from sdcard"
12. choose whether you have the file on your internal or external SD card
13. now using the scroll and select buttons, navigate to your .zip file and select it
13. confirm that you want to install the ROM.
This will take another little bit.
Now exit Safestrap by going back to the main menu and select "reboot system now".
The phone should reboot right back into your 2nd version of the Stock MotoBlur system.
Enjoy.
Reserved for future use
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I almost gave up on the D4!! wooooOOOOOoooo
Hash,
I can flash this with no problem, but just like everything else i try to flash when safe mode is enabled, it hangs on the off black screen after booting. Any other ways I can try this?
**Edit** Got it working. I was actually trying to deodex a few files and add afew touches to your base, so I guess I did not recompile it correctly. Gonna try again.

Keep at it, we'll need deodexed files.
Also, I updated the ROM tonight. I had left some cheesecake files in which were pointing users to a motoblur-dev OTA server.
Please re-download when you can, so we don't distribute a deodexed ROM with that info in it.
Does anybody have a .219 safestrap ROM?
[edit]
Never mind. I just tar'd over the .219 files from /system onto /preinstall, to overwrite my "safe" install.
I've attached the list of files the 219 update replaced. To use it:
Install the 215 ROM into your safe system, then toggle back to Unsafe mode.
Then in a root shell:
Code:
cd /system; tar cf - `cat 219.txt` | (cd /preinstall; tar xf - )
Then when you toggle back to your Safe system it will be running the identical 219 software as your original system.
One for ICS
Im looking for a stock ICS rom that I can flash to safestrap. I did a search, but I'm leary of flashing anything that im not 100% sure is the right one.

Help, please: Boot loop during Cyanogenmod zip install

Hello,
I'm not gonna panic, as I think Ive not bricked my phone YET.
Here is what I have done, I have a GALAXY S I9000.
Have been using it for quite some time now. 2 years ago, I have flashed it with - hardcore's kernel with the ClockworkMod Recovery - using Odin.
Today I decided to give Cyanogenmod a go, followed the steps here. - http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
Since I have the hardoce's kernel, I skipped this Installing the ClockworkMod Recovery - and moved on to - Flashing CyanogenMod.
I will go step by step from here.
Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the internal memory.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the internal memory also.
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
done these, no problem so far.
[*]Select Choose zip from sdcard.
when I chose this, phone rebooted, it was so fast something may have come up and I didnt see.
Now I am stuck in a boot loop:
- Galaxy S I9000 samsung screen comes up, goes away for a second, comes up again.
- A page with code appearing from the bottom comes up really fast ( logo in the middle changes quickly) then it disappears.
- whole thing starts again.
UPDATE: I got a picture of the fast screen that comes up. : http://localhostr.com/files/b5NzFRy/2012-08-27 05.07.32.jpg
Some observations.
- I can go into download mode when opening it with the key combo.
- loop only stops when I unplug the battery
I need advice on what caused this and how to fix this, please help me.

are you not able to get into recovery? If only download than you need to get back to GB and than do a progressive update from GB to ICS to JB
Flash it again. From what I've heard, it only flashes the kernel the first time.
I had the same problem today with CM7 today. Just reboot in recovery and flash again cm zip, form there on everything is gonna run smooth!

You will get boot loop
Again boot into recovery
Install the same zip file one more time

Hi,
I had the same pb coming from a GB
I think this pb is very common
1) DON'T WORRY !
2) Unplug the battery when bootlooping
3) Put the SGS in Recovery Mode (the CWM's version has changed)
4) Select the CM .zip and flash it AGAIN
5) When it's done, reboot system
This time, everything shoot be OK
Just be carefull with your IMEI (always have a backup of EFS folder !)

Thanks!, this method worked a treat :highfive:
Anyone have a trick yet for CM 10.1 v.22 Nightly, I keep getting a bootloop on all their versions except the original one. This is so frustrating because I have to keep going back to stock and then update to ICS.

Same here, after the Samsung and CM logos, and splash animation, it says :
"Encryption unsuccessful.
Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result, the data on your phone is no longer accessible.
To resume using your phone, you must perform a factory reset...."
After I tap Reset phone, it goes to CWM recovery.
Do the factory reset and the same thing occured in loop.
I came from JVU and CF root.

Installation Procedure for CM9
If you have CWM Recovery
Copy both zip files int internal SDCARD
Boot into recovery
Do a full wipe (data/factory,cache, dalvik)
Install zip from sdcard
Choose zip from sdcard
Select the ROM
You will get boot loop
Again boot into recovery
Install the same zip file one more time
Install google app
Do a full wipe again (data/factory,cache,dalvik)
Reboot your phone
Enjoy...

How long should the first boot take after following these steps? And does it have to be from SDCARD, because I can't get the rom onto my sd card, I can only do it via usb otg cable

Hi,
I had the same pb coming from a GB
I think this pb is very common
1) DON'T WORRY !
2) Unplug the battery when bootlooping
3) Put the SGS in Recovery Mode (the CWM's version has changed)
4) Select the CM .zip and flash it AGAIN
5) When it's done, reboot system
This time, everything shoot be OK
Just be carefull with your IMEI (always have a backup of EFS folder !)

Just plug out the battery and flash again on cwm recovery.

Please Help! Trying to flash Jellybean rom.

I have a rooted 2.2 Captivate with Clockwork mod version 2.5.1.2 installed. Rom manger acts as though everything is working but when I go to reboot into CWM recovery I get the stock 3e. I go to reinstall packages. I end up with "E:failed to verify whole-file signature" "E:signature varification failed" My intentions were to follow the instructions I found on Android Authority.
they are:
1. Copy the Devil RC3 kernel and the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM files to your Captivate’s internal SD Card.
2. Turn off your Captivate.
3. Boot into Recovery Mode. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons. When the screen turns on, let go of all three buttons.
*I'm stuck at this point because it won't load CWM
4. In recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select.
5. Make a NANDroid Backup of your current ROM. Select Backup and Restore and select Backup.
6. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Confirm the action on the next page.
7. Select Install ZIP from SD Card.
8. Select Choose ZIP from SD Card and locate the Devil RC3 kernel.
9. After the Devil RC3 kernel has finished flashing, choose Install ZIP from SD Card again.
10. Select Choose ZIP from SD Card and locate the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM file.
11. After the CyanogenMod 10 V2 ROM file has finished flashing, select Go Back.
12. Select Advanced > Fix Permissions.
Return to main recovery menu and select Reboot System Now.
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this link. Hopefully it will help you get to where you want to be. Also remember over-reading about what you are wanting to do is better than trying to find a solution to something because you missed a step.

Thank you.
I have a question. Do I need to flash the Devil RC3 kernel or should I just install the CyanogenMod 10 V2 rom from zip? Or should I flash the speedmod kernel on odin, then from CWM install the Devil RC3 kerenel, Then install CyanogenMod 10 V2. I just wondered if the two kerenels would conflict or if I would even need Devil RC3?

First of all you're getting a little ahead of yourself in trying to get to CM10 from where you are. Being on 2.2 you will need to get to a gingerbread ROM first as the bootloaders are different and will cause issues trying to go to CM10 if you don't go to gingerbread first.
The following link will take you to some one-click utilities that will update you to gingerbread along with the needed bootloaders. Also I suggest picking one from the list that says it has a CWM kernel injected so that you can save a step after the flash and have a CWM recovery kernel already installed.
Once you've used the one-click you shouldn't need to flash either of the kernels you've mentioned you should technically be able to just flash the CM10 and be good. Although when it comes to flashing the CM10 I suggest you go to the creaters thread or site and follow their exact directions for installing!

I highly recommend you install official cm instead. They are updated and will be more stable.
