Free Exchange Mail Service W/ Push Email And Active Sync

Free exchange mail service for your pocket pc with Outlook Web Access
I run an exchange server and I am welcoming pocketpc users that are in need of an exchange account to activesync with. This service also offers Direct Push for those of you that have have this on your PocketPC.
Its totally free and has outlook web access, to sign-up simply visit http://www.port88.org/signup.php and I'll set you up.
If you are intrested in other services or want more information, check out http://www.port88.org
This is something I do in my spare time for fun, so it may take me 24 hours before I get you set up. But being a Wizard/MDA user myself, I have found this to be a great tool.
Obviously all this cost money, and lots of it. I have had a few people donate to the cause which has been a great help. But some users ask me for special features that I normally would not offer to a basic user. Well the solution is simple, if more people donate (even a small ammount) I will be able to upgrade the server with more space and better processing power, and in turn more services will be free for everyone to use.
So if you like the service and feel that you can contribute, please send paypal payments to [email protected]
If you think you can donate in other ways (I currently looking for a forum site to be set up), please send me an email!
Keep our community growing, join today!
Thank you for your patience.

i need someone to set up a form that takes the persons first and last name, origin (country and state) prefered username and dob and then a dropdown box with the type of service they want. then that would post to a DB (mysql) using PHP and also send me and email with the info as well as a confirmation email to the person sending the request.
so do you think you could help me out??
Thanks!

Seven (push email), Tilt and WM6.1

Anyone here using Seven on their Tilt with the new ATT Rom?
I've been using it for about 2 weeks just fine with no problems whats so ever. Now since flashing my ROM I started having issues.
The two main ones are that messages are not getting marked as read back on the server side and that composed messages are not being sent.
Anyone else here seeing this?
I am running the official ATT WM6.1 ROM.
Thanks
David
It's 6.1 that's screwed it up.....
Yeah...I had the same issue, back when I flashed my first wm 6.1 rom...I don't believe the latest version of seven's mail client is officially approved for 6.1. I ended up getting a free account on mail2web and using the aggregator service they offer to push mail from my other accounts to my Tilt by way of Active Sync. It's turned out to be a much better option, and you can't beat free. I do miss the seven client though, it's a nice peice of software.
you can get a free account with mail2web at

good luck.

I have access to an Exchange account but I use Gmail for my mail and like that Seven keeps it synced up where as Exchange doesn't.
I guess for now I am going to go back to Gmail/IMAP.
David
seven working fine for me, but i'm not using the latest at&t ROM (see my sig)
In the Seven forum they say that some of the 6.1 roms do not work properly and they hope the next version, due any time, will correct this.

I just reinstalled Seven after upgrading to 6.1 (AT&T rom) and Seven is working fine for me.
It's working fine for me on both 6.1 and 6.5 now.
However, I don't know if you all know that when you setup an email account to SEVEN, your phone automatically sends an sms to an England number +447624802625, which will charge you an international sms. This will happen when you add one and every email account. Here is the confirmation from SEVEN:
abackholm - SEVEN's Site Admin said:
First of all, thanks for everyone supporting SEVEN in participating the beta program. Your efforts have continued to help our software reach higher quality and become more reliable. Sincerely, being a non-commercial offering that does not earn SEVEN a dime, we sometimes put you in a difficult spot: the setup is not necessarily optimized for the end user, but rather to maximize feedback and exposure SEVEN gets for various features and setup configurations.
In this case, we want to test the phone number validation using SMS.
(1) In production deployments we need user's phone number (instead of IMSI) to be able to send SMS triggers that wake up the client so that there is no need for always-on data connection - to conserve bandwidth and battery.
(2) In production deployments the SMS would be zero-rated, but that's unfortunately not an option in the beta program as operators are not participating with beta testing in their mind. In such deployments, there is no need for multiple SMS-to-HTTP gateway numbers, and thus our setup only supports using one at a time. As the beta program is global in nature, majority of users will always have to use an international number.
I apologize for inconvenience this causes. I realize that those who need to reinstall the client very frequently are especially vulnerable. However, I'd like to remind that participation in the beta program is entirely voluntary.

And luckily some solution has been found:
Hi guys, the problem is over for me as I found a trick for this. There are two ways:
1. I just install and run SEVEN with an OUT-OF-MONEY SIM so that it could not send any international sms. I don't know if you have this in your country or not but here we have 2 different accounts for one SIM, the main account and the promotion account. With the promotion account we can use most of the sms, 3g, gprs, phone services but not international sms/calls and value-added services (like buying ringtones, games etc), and the main account covers those things. So I've tried a SIM without money in the main account and everything goes great though it could not send an international sms. When I put my other SIM in, it does not request me to activate Smile
2. I've tried to install and run SEVEN without a SIM, and turn the wifi on when I add emails. SEVEN requested me to input my phone number and I did it. Then when everything is done I just insert my SIM in, and everything worked fine, no more international sms.
Cheers!!!

and
I can add that I have just disabled the phone connnection and connected via wifi when adding an account. This also works.

Best exchange app

I have the vodafone branded model so no exchange support out of the box. Can anyone recommend a good app I can install? I'm testing out the touchdown demo and while it seems good, I don't fancy paying $25 for it. Also, although the demo is fully enabled for 5 days, it doesn't seem to work with push as it says not able to find activesync or something like that.
Tried Roadsync and switched to Touchdown. Supports calendar and tasks, has homescreen widget(!), allows sync time settings and more. Great support and updates, check out their google group! It's worth the money if you need exchange support.
For setting up: follow their manual on the homepage and it should work. Most trouble comes from incorrect settings, e.g. you forgot the domain. I did so
You're 100% right about touchdown. Double checked the settings and although the domain was listed, it now it works after I changed my username from 'username' to 'domain\username'
I guess I'll pay the $25 if no other free & reliable application is around
Same happened to me
It clicked when you mentioned it as I had trouble signing into my office webmail once, and IT said I should try that format for the username
Do like me, root the phone and install orig htc rom Stupid that us vodafone users cant get free exchange app etc, like we really was promised
Root? I'm afraid that doesn't tell me much ;-)
Any guides as to how I can do that?

[Project] Android MS Exchange Client

Hi,
I am thinking of creating an Android Exchange client as I am yet to find a 100% suitable one for my G1.
I currently use TouchDown which works acceptably, but I dont think the interface is particularly in keeping with the standard Android theme. It also seems to duplicate many aspects of the G1 features (calander etc) - why not integrate?
So I was wondering if anyone had some experience of programming (I do, before someone asks) in particular with Exchange history if possible, as I could do with some help and I am all for helping the Android community.
I haven't decided yet if the app will be FOSS or closed source, but if I were to charge it would be around the 1GBP mark - I'm not trying to pay the mortgage off, but something to reimburse the time spent is always nice. Maybe a lite version for free etc.
PM me if you are interested in helping out, I will probably setup a Google Code project or something.
Rich
I am not a programmer (sorry), but I just want to say there is definitely a market for good Exchange apps. The company I work for switched to G1s recently and we bought a few Touchdown licenses just for ActiveSync. I personally hate the TouchDown interface (sorry devs, you're nice and all but I am a fan of design as well as function!). If something was created that could do TouchDown's job (or better) and fit in with Android better, you'd have some people interested for sure.
rich,
I may be interested in working on this. I just got my ADP1, and have barely started playing with it. I'm still running touchdown under the free trial period.
Exchange sync is built into Android 2.0. I haven't played with a droid, so I don't know if it's implemented more like you're talking about or not, but that's certainly worth looking into before developing from scratch.
I know that the 2.0 build should support it, however most Exchange interfaces dont work on our setup
We use a different port for the SSL connection and this seems to break most Exchange implementations (excluding TouchDown). Is the Exchange support in the AOSP Email app?? Or is it like the HTC version?
I would find this very useful. As already said we have many G1 and Magic out there using Work Email and Touchdown....
My problem with a couple of the exchange syncs is they don't include Calendars and Contacts. What good is That? When they say Work Email they mean just that, email.

Hope you have the cash to buy an Activesync Exchange license. That is unless you're planning on using OWA , in which case I doubt folks would pay for an Exchange client without push.

I have tried the xROM based on the 2.0 AOSP and the mail client supports MS Exchange contacts and calender included.
I would certainly be very interested, especially if you managed to support exchange categories. Touchdown on my HTC Hero (v1.5) certainly doesnt, and neither does the built in HTC activesync program.
Ideally I want to have a month view calendar with the different calendar events shown on a daily timeline with a colour I can choose for each calendar category.
As far as I can find, I dont think that any of the current android/exchange syncing options even support or mention exchange categories!!!
The 2.0 email app is fully configurable to support exchange, you can change ports and ssl settings. Works perfectly.
There are a few issues that I have with the exchange solutions for Android.
1. Touchdown works, but I hate that it does not integrate into the existing framework. I know it can be done, look at SenseUI from HTC. Almost perfect! Just runs like crap on MyTouch.
2. Lack of integration (touched on point 1, but needed to be said).
3. Lack of full features. Seriously, WHY is there NO WAY to tell it what times to sync and what times not too. I don't need to get EVERY email that is sent between 10pm and 5am and then have my phone sqwaking all night. This bugs me about GMail data sync, I have to MANUALLY shut it off... ugh... Touchdown does this, SenseUI does not...
Anyway, a working, full featured integrated application would be worth paying for. Talk about enterprise licensing... People would be all over that... trust me...
Thanks,

[Q] Mail application, no support for meeting requests?

Hi,
it's only me or Samsung Galaxy S default Mail application doesn't support work with meeting requests, like "Accept", "Decline" and then "Send message", etc like on all other devices?
Is there any trick in it or it's just me?
Thanks for any suggestion/s.
Night
Are you referring to Exchange?
Open the request, you will see in between the Responses (the invitee) and the event info, there is an option allow you to tap and select your answer.
Let me know if my reply answered your query. Thanks.

Yes, refering to Exchange.
I can see only "header" with sender, recipeints, subject and decription (body).
In context menu (menu key) is only forward, reply, etc.. no "Accept" or anything like that
Testest on the same account and same message (meeting request) on HTC Desire, worked as expected.
Can you make a screen how you see it?
Thanks!
my apology, should check your calendar instead.
any luck?
My phone is busy with the setup, will try to show you a screen capture as soon as the CPU is free
Anyone? I would really like to know if it's just me or general issue
Thanks a lot!
I'm having the same issue and would also be very interested in a solution?
Can't even connect to our Exchange 2010 server, so can't help you
I read somewhere that "better Exchange support" was coming in the official Froyo release... not sure specifically if this will be one of the "better" things. In any case, I had the same problem, couldn't find a solution.
I'm using a program called "Touchdown" which works well (including allowing you to accept/decline meeting requests), but isn't free.
We should do the distinction between Froyo better support of exchange and the s.it done by Samsung to handle the mail/contact/calendar from exchange
If you don't have the meeting working correctly it has nothing to do with Froyo but with Samsung who doesn't know anything about exchange.
I just received an invitation and I can see it on the mail and in the calendar but there is no way for me to accept it. My colleague with the HTC desire had no issue of course
For instance try to get a phone number from the exchange contact book ( not in the contact that you sync on your phone of course) on your HTC ... it's super easy. Now try to do the same on the Samsung ... you can't unless you buy Touchdown
I have the issue on the Galaxy Tab. So basically I need to purchase Touchdown in order for it to work fine. Will it integrate with the existing e-mail client and the existing Samsung calendar?
It doesn't integrate with Samsung Calendar or mail, it replaces them (you can use both, if you like)... there's a 30 day free trial, download it and check it out.
I'll give it a try and will let you know how it worked out for me. Thnx
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
For the time being it is working fine. Can you tell me how much the Touchdown license costs?
