[Q] Mail application, no support for meeting requests? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
it's only me or Samsung Galaxy S default Mail application doesn't support work with meeting requests, like "Accept", "Decline" and then "Send message", etc like on all other devices?
Is there any trick in it or it's just me?
Thanks for any suggestion/s.
Night

Are you referring to Exchange?
Open the request, you will see in between the Responses (the invitee) and the event info, there is an option allow you to tap and select your answer.
Let me know if my reply answered your query. Thanks.

Yes, refering to Exchange.
I can see only "header" with sender, recipeints, subject and decription (body).
In context menu (menu key) is only forward, reply, etc.. no "Accept" or anything like that
Testest on the same account and same message (meeting request) on HTC Desire, worked as expected.
Can you make a screen how you see it?
Thanks!

my apology, should check your calendar instead.
any luck?
My phone is busy with the setup, will try to show you a screen capture as soon as the CPU is free

Anyone? I would really like to know if it's just me or general issue
Thanks a lot!

I'm having the same issue and would also be very interested in a solution?

Can't even connect to our Exchange 2010 server, so can't help you

I read somewhere that "better Exchange support" was coming in the official Froyo release... not sure specifically if this will be one of the "better" things. In any case, I had the same problem, couldn't find a solution.
I'm using a program called "Touchdown" which works well (including allowing you to accept/decline meeting requests), but isn't free.

We should do the distinction between Froyo better support of exchange and the s.it done by Samsung to handle the mail/contact/calendar from exchange
If you don't have the meeting working correctly it has nothing to do with Froyo but with Samsung who doesn't know anything about exchange.
I just received an invitation and I can see it on the mail and in the calendar but there is no way for me to accept it. My colleague with the HTC desire had no issue of course
For instance try to get a phone number from the exchange contact book ( not in the contact that you sync on your phone of course) on your HTC ... it's super easy. Now try to do the same on the Samsung ... you can't unless you buy Touchdown

I have the issue on the Galaxy Tab. So basically I need to purchase Touchdown in order for it to work fine. Will it integrate with the existing e-mail client and the existing Samsung calendar?

It doesn't integrate with Samsung Calendar or mail, it replaces them (you can use both, if you like)... there's a 30 day free trial, download it and check it out.

I'll give it a try and will let you know how it worked out for me. Thnx

For the time being it is working fine. Can you tell me how much the Touchdown license costs?

Pocket Informant 2007 Help Please

Hi,
I'm using Pocket Informant 2007, but I can't seem to get it to send meeting requests.
If I cancel a meeting that has attendees, it will put an cancellation email in Pocket Outlook ready to forward to my PC for sending at next Activesync connection, but I can't seem to find a setting that will allow it to send requests to new meetings.
If I use the standard calendar it does send requests. It even lets me chose which email account to use.
Is this a feature that Pocket Informant doesn't support? Rather glaring ommission if it doesn't! I have searched Google, the Pocket Informant manual, the settings and Google searched the forum, but can't seem to find any information either way. This seems to suggest it's a feature that Pocket Informant 2007 doesn't support. Anyone know if v8 supports it if 2007 doesn't?
Thanks
Steve
I use PI v8.51. It definitely lets you choose contacts to invite and sends email to them confirming appointment. I think that this is also supported in PI 2007. It is a basic Outlook function.
You need to open calendar, new appointment, then it will display tabs at the bottom. One of them is for inviting contacts. It wil also ask you if you want them to be notified. It also alllows you to select a category for meeting etc. and to make notes.
Check it out and let me know if you come right.
Regards,
MAC
Hi MAC,
Thanks for the reply. You are right, there is a tab for selecting invitee's. But, when I select a contact, it doesn't give me the choice to send a notification. If I check the outbox (or inbox, sent etc) on Outlook E-Mail there is no email waiting to be sent. If I cancel the meeting, a meeting cancellation email does plonk itself in the Outbox ready to send next time I use Activesync.
The only way to send a meeting invite using PI2007 seems to be to create a meeting with attendee's, sync with my PC, then open the appointment in Outlook on my computer and send the invites from there (it does helpfully tell me that invites haven't been sent). Which seems a bit of a faf!
If I use the default Calender that comes with WM6, and I create a meeting with attendee's, it asks me how I want to send the meeting invite. Just seems strange that such a killer app like PI2007 doesn't have this function and I felt I must be missing something! Maybe that was a short coming of PI2007....

It definitely places an email in outbox on mine. Perhaps you need to check on email account to be used in PI.

I can't even find an option to select an email account!
However I can find options for just about everything else....so I guess it's back to searching.
Thankyou for your help though.

Sorry to hijack the thread - but I've got PI 8.51 and can't find the setting to tell PI which Outlook account to use to send attendee updates. You seem to be suggesting that such a setting exists - if so, would you mind giving me some direction?

The option is in Menu>My Informant>Settings>General Application>Send Meeting Requests Via...then select accordingly. On mine only Pocket Outlook is available as an option. I hope this helps.

Thanks - the option is there, but as with yours it only shows Pocket Outlook on mine as well. Oh well!
Flexmail
I can send them through Flexmail (also from Webis). I think that's why they created the option (i can choose)...
Hi all,
Thanks for your help. I finally found the option under settings > Warnings > Update meeting attendees. There are a lot of setting to trawl through!

Native Exchange email client(s)

I have a Vodafone Magic, thus no Exchange capability. I tried TouchDown, couldn't get it to work at all, and was on the verge of flashing my ROM in order to install something with native Exchange support until I found this thread over on the Dream forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536727
They've stripped out the Mail.apk file from the MyTouch ROM (which they found over here in Sapphire land!). The APK file installs and runs fine on my Vodafone/Google branded model using Apps Installer. You'll have a new email program called "Work Email" which will happily run side by side with the GoogleMail app or indeed the crappy built in Email app. No contacts, no calendar, but proper Exchange push email in a clean, no frills interface.
I thought I'd share this with people because it's not in an obvious place where people on the Sapphire/Magic boards would find it easily (and also so I can track it down quickly myself in the future!)
As an aside, am I right in thinking that there are several HTC-branded Exchange clients for the Magic? We've got
* "Work Email", which is a separate app, and which comes with the MyTouch flavoured Magic devices. This is email only.
* a version of the main email app which supports ActiveSync along with the more usual POP3 and IMAP, and which I believe comes with Asian market Magics. This does Contacts and Calendar.
Thats too bad you couldn't get Touchdown to work. That little app is so wonderful. It has tons of features and even supports its own set of widgets for tasks, inbox and calender.
Yes, Touchdown works great for me too. I'm 99% sure that your problem is related to incorrect settings you made (I did the same). Check out the Touchdown Google group. The TD devs answer every question, most likely the same day. Have never seen such a close support.

This is fantastic. I have touchdown working (i had to use domain\username to get it to work) but it costs $29. This is free! if the calendar can be added then that would make it perfect.

Just like to confirm something...does the Work Email app has activesync capabilities?
Wonder if you could help me with my touchdown config..
My company us running Ms Exchange 2003 SP 2 server with a self-signed certificates. From the advance config screen, I know that the activesync status is ready. i've also loaded the client cert. I also able to see my folders from my the choose folder screen, so I assume that I've the correct configuration.
The problem is that I can't get my inbox to sync but my sent-mail folder is sync and also I'm able to sent emails..
Any hint?
i'm no longer using touchdown, so i can't check the specific settings, but have you checked the settings to make sure it is checking for new emails automatically as they arrive rather than manually or after a certain period of time?
I finally get touchdown to work after emptying my inbox folder ..
I don't see why you're all talking about Touchdown when the topic was created about the native push email support.
Back on topic, I've been using the "work email" as it comes built into Cyanogens ROMs which are of course compatible with the Magic. It works very well and I'd much prefer to use this than an installed app.
remote provisioning
You may or may not be able to connect to your exchange server using "Work Email" app. If your exchange admins require that your phone has been remotely provisioned you won't be able to use this app.
Touchdown guys sorted this out. That's why I paid the money for a great app. Worth every cent.

[Q] Exchange Mail App

Hi friends
My workplace requires me to sync with their mail exchange server to get all my e-mail & calendars pushed. I've set it all up great on stock but my issue is when I am sent a new meeting request, I have no ability to accept or reject it on the phone. Any ideas on how I can resolve this? I'd prefer to stay on stock until I make sure my phone works fine before venturing into a custom ROM. I am not aware of there being any really good 2.2 ROMs specifically for the Captivate but when I am ready, I just want 2.2 on a simple ROM similar to stock without the bloatware. Any help is greatly appreciated.
no need to use a custom rom to make your mail usable.
i use an app called touchdown on my phone. it is the most complete mail client i have found so far. only downside is that it costs $20. well worth it if you need nearly COMPLETE functionality out of your mail client
i hear good things about k-9 but i couldnt get it to connect to my exchange server so i gave up on it and went with touchdown
I am using the stock app and i am able to accept or reject invites in the email app. They have a calendar icon and i scroll down and hit accept. An email reply pops up and i hit send.

alphadog some reason it doesn't allow me to..just shows a blank e-mail. Can you also create meeting requests and send them to colleagues?

this wasnt working for me when i first got my phone. i just tried it again and it works now....an update or something i did? i dont know, its weird, because just after i got my phone, i was testing it out with some guys at work....
i still find touchdown to be better when it comes to actually reading the emails. full html email support is nice and looks more professional. the stock email client looks like a hack job when it breaks lines mid-word.

Receiving jobs by email

Hi all, I'm self employed and receive most of my work via email with the details in a pdf or doc file.
If at home I just transfer the details to calendar on my PC which syncs with my google calendar and then onto my note calendar. From the note calendar I can tap the location field and navigate to the customer with google maps and, if necessary, tap the contact number to call the customer easily while on route.
The problem is this requires manually typing the data from the document into the calendar. Easy on my PC but a pain in the butt if I'm on the road at the time.
Does anyone know of a way to automate this so I can do it easily from my note?
In summary I want to be able to get the job details into the calendar (stock at moment but not set in concrete), specifically the address into the location field and contact name and number into the description field.
Would it work if I got them to send out as a calendar invitation, I assume but don't know for sure, that they use outlook.
Sorry for the long drawn out question, I hope it makes sense. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Love using the note for my jobs but need to be able to streamline it's use when jobs come in on the road. At the moment I have to open the email, download and open the attachment, write down the details and either enter them into a diary event or type them directly into phone/navigation as appropriate. Not exactly high tech

imo the simplest solution would be if customers would send you invitations from google calendar - when accepted would automatically get into your note calendar,
Thanks p107r0,
I think it will also work if they create a diary event on their system and invit me as an atendee. In theory I then get an email invite which, if I accept it will populate my calendar.
Just messing with it myself and seems to work. I'll have to get my companies to try it out if I can convince them.
genious question, brilliant idea for an app, someone should make it

What if you did some sort of mashup where your clients go to a google hosted google apps page with a google spreadsheet that is acting as a form,
in this they can type the requirements.... and perhaps can select / type who they are (or perhaps type their UID which does a lookup to prevent data protection act) that has an action of add to calendar + email alert for you with the attached PDF that they select in the form?
I might have a look in to this myself as it seems kinda fun!
Edit: Found this example, that is kinda close
https://sites.google.com/site/drupa...usiness/apps-script-examples/calendar-service
Second edit
Perhaps http://www.jotform.com/ can help.
Thanks fooby, at moment I'm working on getting them to set up a calendar event and inviting me as an attendee as I think that will work with a few tweaks.
Trouble is getting them to play with me

[Q] Incredibly frustrated with N3+Gear - help please?

Good afternoon, Everyone - I hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far.
I, on the other hand, am incredibly frustrated and tired of trying to figure this out on my own... Also, I am in the middle of the woods today, and on a mobile device, so I am not as careful as I always am, so if by chance this has already been asked in a different thread, I am very sorry and I apologize...
I have the Note 3 with all latest updates. Not rooted. I also have the Galaxy Gear watch, again all the latest updates. I bought this watch primarily for two uses - to get notifications of my incoming text messages using the stock Samsung messaging app. Check - works great. The other reason, was so that I could get AND read my email messages using the stock Samsung email application. Check - works gr.... uh... not exactly. And HERE is my frustration...
Currently, in my STOCK Samsung Email app, I have the following accounts set up:
3 Gmail Accounts
1 Yahoo Account
1 Exchange work email account
Every time an email comes in on ANY of these accounts, I get an immediate notification on my watch. I can swipe, and read the entire email message. This is ALL I wanted. HOWEVER, even though in the very same stock email app, in the very same combined in-box, if I get a message specifically to my work Exchange email account, the watch ONLY displays that I have a message and to open it on the phone. It will not show ANYTHING in the email. But... the other accounts do with no problem! Why just this account, in the very same email app, with the same appearance and layout as the others??? I need this account more than anything - the others are just for fun and personal family, etc.
I did manage a temporary workaround however, but I am HOPING that you amazing folks here at XDA can give me an idea towards a solution. If I set up a MANUAL account to my work server using IMAP, our work server will allow me to only CHECK the mail, but not send. So I have no choice but to keep the existing Exchange account set up in my Samsung Mail App. However, I set up a SECOND entry in the same mail app, with my email address checking the email from my work server using IMAP and TLS. I just can't send.
Once I did that, I now receive TWO of every email from work. One in my normal inbox without a notification (turned off to avoid all the extra alerts on the phone), and the OTHER entry (IMAP) that I have labeled "Galaxy Gear Work Notifier". Now, the email WILL DISPLAY on my Watch, and I can read the whole email. But, if I pick up my phone to reply to the message, I have to switch inboxes on the mail app to the "real" Exchange one, and reply to the email.
There just has to be an easier way than this!!! I also own the Sony SmartWatch 2, but I personally don't like it as much as the Gear - but the Sony will read everything with all of the second party email notifiers out there.
Regardless that this is an Exchange account, it is coming into the very SAME STOCK SAMSUNG email application - so why do all the other email accounts display their email in full on the watch, but the one Exchange mail that comes in only says "open on phone" - what am I missing? This is driving me crazy, the fact that I can't figure this out....
I would appreciate any and all ideas VERY much - more than you know. Thank you in advance for helping and for the ideas. I appreciate it!

HELLO AGAIN guys - I have an update...
I was so pissed by all of this - mainly because I was SURE there was something that I was doing wrong, and that I couldn't figure it out.... SOOO - I called Samsung, and went to tier 3 support and spoke to an engineer (called the main support line, got to the Mobile device department, then Galaxy Gear), and they said that they were aware that the notifications with Microsoft Exchange accounts, even those set up within their stock app, were temporarily broken and would refer the user to open the mail on their phone.... but an update is being released at any time now again to the Gear which fixes this issue. By taking the Exchange authentication/security out of the loop, this is why my manually set IMAP version of the same email was working. He assured me that they received a large number of calls on this specific issue, mainly because of all the business users who rely on Exchange as their email method, using the stock mail app. So he promised this was being addressed asap. At least, I now KNOW that this was not just me, and that I was not nuts. If it's "supposed" to be broken right now, and they are addressing it, then I'm fine with that and can use my IMAP workaround for the time being...
Thanks very much everyone - have a great rest of the weekend!!!
Mike
