Travelling and want to disable the voice as well as data completely - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I do that? I don't want to use the phone for calling or internet. I just want to use it for games/doc/music etc.
Will appreciate your help?

no offense at all but doesn't airplane mode do what you are asking for?

None taken. I did not know what airplane mode meant. If that's what it means, great!

yeah lol. airplane mode basically disables the radio so no signal or data can reach the phone.

Or you could always remove your SIM card.

I always remove my sim when I leave the country, no sim ALWAYS = no charges, plus my sim goes in my BB curve which is UMA so I get free voice over wi-fi, and even in that case I find. Several 1 cent data access fees on the bill, from the BB booting up before it rolls to UMA I suppose

What's your operator?
Try contacting your operator to find out if fast data connection is enabled for your line. In few cases EDGE, 3g and etc are not enabled by the operators by default.

3G Connection Issues on CM 4.2.7.1

I am having a very strange issue:
Whenever I am at home, and my G1 is connected via 3G, I cannot use data or make/recieve calls. If I enable the "Use only 2g networks" checkbox, it reconnects via EDGE and works perfectly. I currently have a service request out with TMO which should resolve in the next 24-48 hours, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of this issue.
TMo has no idea why I'm not getting signal, the problem continued even when I reverted to stock "Cupcake".
Things I've tried:
Reverted to stock firmware and unrooted phone (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Call T-Mobile, they removed and re-added me to network. (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Swapped SIM card at T-Mobile store (Didn't work; same symptoms)
T-Mobile service request in my area (Results pending)
Things I am going to try, but haven't yet:
- Return to stock firmware, reinstall CM 4.2.7.1
- Try an older CM like 4.2.4 or 4.2.5
- Connect to WiFi for data connection, see if this replicates the problem as with 3G
- Enable data roaming.
The fact that it only happens at home leads me to believe it's not a problem with the phone, however I'm more than willing to do more to rule it out.
Phone Specs
T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version 1.6
Baseband Version 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version 2.6.29.6-cm42 [email protected]
Mod Version CyanogenMod 4.2.7.1
Build Number DRC83
Dont tell T-Mo that your rooted thats a big mistake right there, that can be used against you if you ever have to get the phone replaced.Play around with the apn settings and make sure "always on 2G" isnt checked in settings. Maybe your house isnt in the small 3G coverage area, or your phone cant connect to it. Why would you think data and talking at the same time would be possible? Its either you answer or you stop browsing the web.

Yes, thank you, I know not to tell them that, they have zero idea. I also forgot to mention they did swap out my SIM card at the store.
Read what I posted. Turning on "Always On 2G" is the ONLY WAY I can make calls and use data at home. When that isn't on, the phone says it has a 3g connection with four bars, but will not dial out, take calls, or connect to web pages. I've also verified my APN as epc.tmobile.com which is correct, and this affects my voice and data communications.

Try another rom to confirm you cant get 3G, it could also be HW failure. But just try a older cyanogen or something else.Ive cant get a 3G signal with cyanogen roms for long but with a hero rom i seem to get 3G(maybe its my imagination)

It fails on both stock (untouched, unrooted), and CM. I'll try an older CM just in case though.

Rebooted phone between each of these tests:
3G With WiFi enabled: Same result, can't dial out.
Data roaming enabled, Wifi Disabled: No signal at all, 0 bars with "X" symbol.
Stock firmware: 3G won't dial out, forcing 2G works.
Downgraded to CM 4.2.4: Same symptoms.

What ! if you have 3G coverage you can talk and access data at the same time.
That is what 3G provides.

That's not what I'm trying to do! When I am at home, on a 3G connection, I cannot do ANYTHING. That includes text, voice, data, web, ANYTHING. If i force it to use Edge, all services work properly. This is not acceptable. T-Mobile's coverage map lists me as in a strong 3G area. It SHOULD work.
I dont know what to say, except stay on edge, you alreadt sent a req to tmo.
I am having the exact same problem. Would love to learn what you found out.

is it possible to disable data connection completely?

Hi,
I had a diamond cdma without any data plan, and I don't need any data plan, however, the Bell charge me a lot for the data connection, even I disable/delete the connection, change the dial number (#777), when I use the wifi, I still get some data charge.
Is it possible to use a rom to disable the data connection?
Thanks.

you can do it manually....ok first go to settings, then connections, then connections ,under my isp go to the third option and in that tab you should be able to delete the settings...after deleting it return to my isp and touch where it says manage(or the second option to be exact) and where it says #777 just touch the number and leave your finger there until you see options and choose delete.....
it's easy but not working ...
thank you,anyway.
i have my own roms (chek in my signature for the link,if u want to) and they have no settings for data....if not just go to ppcgeeks and download the phoenix rom and theres and app in there to disable data

thanks, after I pay $50, BELL finally agree to disable internet connection from their side .
if I said Bell is the worst mobile carrier, most people won't agree, most people always think their mobile carrier is the worst. -

actually, I called the customer service when I got the phone, they told can't do that technically, and I called again, they told me to delete all the related number.
untill yesterday, I have to pay $50 for the data usage, they agree to disable the internet connection from their side.
I'd use Modaco NoData for that...

after update, still no data and voice ...

I updated, enabled, and restarted. Hd voice is on but when i place a call, my 4g turns to 1x. What Am i missing?
Did you go onto the verizon website and enable HD calling feature? Until you do this, it will not work.

Thank you for your efforts to help.
I activated it on the site.
I activated it on my phone.
I set my network to CDMA/LTE.
I make sure I'm on 4G LTE
I call someone.
Lose 4G.
Those are all my steps.
Perhaps I disabled an app that is required?
Also, do calls progress as normal or is there an intermediate screen?
When I call 611 I get a "Connecting" screen.

no thats not what it does for me. What i recommend doing is a factory reset.
To anyone in the future who has this same problem:
0) I correctly followed the steps to get Volte and nothing worked.
1) Factory reset did not fix my problem.
2) No one I talked to knew what they were talking about (surprise surprise).
3) I reached someone (Keshia) via chat and she deleted all my features and then re-added them - this fixed it.
4) ???
5) I can make calls and still be on 4g now. Praise the Lord.

[Q] No LTE after switching from WiFi.

My Nexus 6 won't pick up LTE again after being on WiFi for an extended period of time. I've tried numerous troubleshooting ideas. I do have Voice where I can make calls, just won't pick up LTE.
Putting my phone on "LTE Only" doesn't work. But putting it on "CDMA Only" does give me 2G data.
I've ran out of ideas and this is quite annoying. Anyone have this problem and/or possible fix?
I'm on Straight Talk (Verizon) with a Google Nexus 6 running Euphoria ROM with the 11.05.16R radio.
ETA: I am aware of this thread from Google:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/7XqSg2bt8VM/PdtR6lDiX9cJ
But I'm not sure this is exactly the same problem.

listing what "troubleshooting ideas" you have tried might be a good idea.
otherwise, some noob like me, will suggest toggling airplane or rebooting.

Yes, I've done the basic toggling of WiFi, Airplane Mode, data on/off. Checked APN settings (although not sure what they're supposed to all be set to). Used an app to put it in LTE Only, CDMA Only. Toggled Global/LTE.
Restarted the phone many times. Sim in/out. Bootloader/QCOM (whatever that is). Done all the basic stuff I can think of.

only other thing, not likely to work, clear cache in twrp and reflash the modem.
then there is the messy stuff lol,
- wipe data
- reflash rom
and if that doesnt work,
- get a new sim

Unfortunately, clearing cache and flashing a different radio didn't work either. More than likely a problem on their end. Guess I'm stuck with 2G until Friday.
Thanks for the help tho.

very unlikely the problem is on their end, unless this is a common thing with your provider.
let us know how you work it out, or if it fixes itself.
I am having the exact same issue. It is driving me crazy.
edit: for what its worth - I just tried to disable "Data Roaming" - there is a chance that just fixed it.
I also have this problem, toggling airplane mode usually solves it, annoying though. Have tried both LP & MM radios. Currently on slim 5.1 w/ verizon, but I've had the problem on other custom roms. Haven't tried stock.
I'll give the data roaming thing a try, thanks.
