Web Zooming in Cyanogen Build - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just switched from JAC 1.8 to CM 4.1.8. This build is blazing fast ( well, it always is ), but I don't find the zooming animation in this build as smooth as the JAC's one. Is there any way I can smooth it up ?
Thanks in advance

Do you mean in the browser, using multitouch?
Basically the cupcake browser wasn't designed to be used with MT, so when you pinch and expand the browser can only do that same as when you tap the + or -. Unless google adds support for multitocuh or we find a way to edit the code for zooming then it will always zoom in steps. The Hero browser was designed for multitouch so it doesn't jump in steps.
So not at the moment.

you could also try the steel browser the zooming animation in it is pretty smooth

TouchFlo: No more horizontal scrolling

I just flashed my T-Mobile MDA Compact IV with the original Dutch HTC ROM. Everything is working perfectly except for one thing: I no longer have horizontal scrolling in TouchFlo. I mean, if I want to go from the clock to contacts, and I swipe my finger horizontally, it moves to contacts instantly instead of scrolling.
I already tried to disable/enable scrolling using Advanced Config, but that didn't help. Am I missing a settings somewhere?
This feature was removed with the change to 1.93.x.x Roms to speed things up in the interface. Trading off Eye Candy vs Speed. You cannot get it back short of switching to and older Rom like 1.37.x.x which was the vintage my unit shipped with.
(First of all, thank you for your answer.)
Too bad. Where can I find what the differences are between 1.93.x.x and 1.37.x.x?
if you cant live without those animations i suggest Swtos new 0.98 ROM with Touch FLO 3D 1.0. its fast as hell too!

It's not that I can't live without it, it's just that I really liked it... Weird though that they didn't make switching it back on an option.
Look into this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421434
You can install tlr-manila.cab to enable it.
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I had tried that already but not only will that give me back the scrolling effects, but the slowness as well.
I have horizontal scrolling with SwiftBL v6 1.93 ROM.
EDIT: Oh, you mean the animated horizontal scrolling, yeh thats gone but it feels faster without it.
this is really funny...
i've upgraded to rom ver 1.93 since day one of launch and still have the horizontal scrolling between tabs in manila....
been reading so many threads about the disabled scrolling, really wonder why...
even my wife's TD retained the scrolling effect after upgrade
and i've not tweaked both TDs after the rom upgrading
I hope HTC'll make an option available to enable/disable graphic effects in a next room (it'd be the same thing Sony Ericsson did with P900 to speed up the symbian OS).
Yes, It' true, now it's much faster, but I loved those stupid effects ...
---
Wait. I still can move through the screens sliding the tab with my thumb, but I neither have sliding effect nor fade effect for blocks background. This is what I call "graphic effects".
Zippy1970, your problem is you can't move through the screens sliding the tab with your thumb, isn't it?
well
Since i have my Diamond i Flashed Swift's 6.0 ROM and the TouchFLO Side scrolling is still there and the ROM is FAAAST

[Question] Pros & Cons of ROM mods

Hey guys, simple question here.
So far I've seen a few ROM mods for the N1. Which among the popular few are the Cyanogen, Modaco's DESIRE, and ENOMTHER's TheOfficial. I've only used Cyanogen mod so far. Can anyone with the OTHER roms(or have tested them) report in with what advantage/disadvantage one rom has over the other? I'm tempted to switch over, but I don't want to do a wipe to only find out the rom wasn't up to speed with what I'm using currently.
=)
Why don't you just do a nandroid backup and dual boot? Don't like the new ROM? Revert to your old ROM with all your applications and whatnot in minutes!
You got a point there. But it'd take me time to adjust to the rom and find out the advantages here and there. I thought it'd be easier to ask someone who's experienced with ROM hopping
I've only used Cyanogen myself, i'm gonna try Modaco on Thursday
Well, I've just tested Enom's mod, it didn't entirely feel different from Cyan besides the spare parts and the default configs it's been set. Also, it doesn't need SetCPU installed as Spareparts control that as well :O

Enom's is what I have on my phone and what I'd recommend. It has a good balance to it. It's smoother enough for me to not notice anything, has enough addons, great battery life, good compatibility, etc.
Cyanogen has more addons and does run smoother, but the battery life was absolutely horrible.
I tired Modaco's DESIRE rom and switched back to enom's within 10 minutes. Sense just didn't do it more me.
With enom i REALLY like the landscaped homescreen, but it works weird because if i were to open up the drawer(That's the one with the 9 icon grid amirite?) and turn the phone to landscape, it jumps back to the homescreen landscape view. The battery seems SLIGHTLY better, but i'm thinking it's just a placebo effect.
The battery life is better. At least, better than the Desire ROM, whose later builds seem to be a bit more battery-sucking than usual.
I've tried Cyanogen's 5.0.1 (yeah, was a while ago), many alpha releases of Modaco Desire, and am now on Enomther's. I'm going to admit that I miss many features of Sense: pinchable homescreens (best homescreen overview ever), polish in certain aspects like search and contact management, the browser, and many more--but the performance greatly suffers. Enomther's brings wonderful configurable options, better performance, and superlative battery life. It's got a few... odd things here and there, like how sometimes in the browser multi-touch randomly stops working, but nothing major. I do like it overall, though I plan to go back to Modaco Desire when the next alpha is released.

Erk, the touchscreen is one of the things i get nit-picky about as i own the 3GS. I know the hardware's limited in the sense of multi touch, but i think it shouldn't be any dysfunctional than it already is. I'm going to give enom another try. I noticed i switched back to Cyan because i had already set up everything nicely, and that i didnt give enom's rom a chance to shine(yet) because it seemed bland without Beautiful Widget.
I'll try to make my comparison simple... Note that I am NOT trying to bash on any of the DEVs, I do appreciate all their hard work, each of their ROMs have pros and cons, so this is solely based on what I experienced. That being said, I suggest you should try em all and decide for yourself
CYANOGEN
PROS:
- If you like flashing, and playing around with add ons I highly suggest this, since most of the Devs base their stuff from Cyan's ROM.
- Cyans ROM is very smooth and responsive, and "maybe} slightly faster than the other ROM's.
- Updates often so flashing is your cup of tea. Then you will probably enjoy this.
- Audio Boost.
- MMS interface is better. Black background.
- More choice of Ringtones on 5.0.3
- Option to save Apps to SD or Internal mem on 5.0.6
CONS:
- Battery life is not great.
- Seems to give me more FC.
- Battery over heats with intensive use of app, specially navigation.
ENOMTHER
PROS:
- Battery life is great.
- ROM is the most stable, and has mostly everything you need in a ROM.
- SpareParts makes the ROM highly customizable, so you dont have to flash stuff over. (Enom's SpareParts ROCKS!).
Here are the stuff included in spareparts:
* PID Prioritizer - A slight fix to the Launcher2 lag
* Hotweiss's Radio Mod - which improves Internet/data speed.
* A unique auto rotating launcher with Phone and Browser.
* Built in CPU settings so you can set your frequency without setCPU.
* LED Trackball settings.
* Swappiness settings.
* Statusbar Options.
* Quick Commands - Reboot / Reboot Recovery / Reboot bootloader / Power off.
CONS:
- Less updates. (Enom wants to make sure its 100% stable before he releases his updates).
- No audio boost yet till his next release. But you can flash pershoot/persiansown kernel to get that.
Good Luck!
I FINALLY rooted my woewtp and flashed cyanogen's latest and my battery life is now horrible. I used my phone for 3 months totally stock and I was bragging about how good my battery was. I went from 100 % to 89 % in 12 hours.
But now I've just lost 16 % in 30 minutes. Why is cyanogen so power hungry? I tried searching for similar threads, I KNOW I've seen them around, but I can't find any of them.
Thanks

froyo fullscreen browser

Hello is There a fullscreenbrowser for froyo with no zoom buttons?
i cant find it qnywhere
I use xScope. Totally deleted the stock browser.
i am missing full screen browser from cyanogen as well. i tried dolphin and xscope, but i like the stock brower so much more. we have to wait till cyanogen before we can get full screen on the stock brower for froyo.
stock browser is far better than all others and faster on froyo.....

I can't understand why people like xScope so much. I do like some of the features but I find zooming to be horrible compared to stock browser. Multitouch zoom is very buggy compared to stock. This would is forgivable given the pin zoom feature except that resizing text doesn't work as well as stock either.
Additionally, double tap zoom doesn't work as well as stock either. The only way I can get satisfactory text resizing is set the initial page zoom to 1.5 - 2.0 which makes pages difficult to navigate.
I am just missing something? I really want to like xScope.
I'm using Dolphin HD in fullscreen mode. No notification bar, hehe!
Is theer any way to get the stock browser into fullscreen without the notification bar?

no, not until the source code is relesed from google and the ROM cookers can get their hands on it to make those changes.

[MOD] More smooth scroll for "MOST" roms [New file added Dec/24][OK for Poweramp]

[MOD] More smooth scroll for "MOST" roms [New file added Dec/24][OK for Poweramp]
Add - CM7 officially included this mod so you don't have to do this on CM7.
If you are using recent weekly, just go to Cyanogenmod setting - Performance - Scrollingcache - Force disable.
It will do the same.
I used miui for several days and noticed miui has more smooth scroll than cm7.
For example, if you scroll playerpro's music list in cm7,
it is laggy sometimes but miui has no lag.
I examined logcat while scrolling playerpro list and found GC is working too much.
I googled about that and found some apps use scrollingcache
and it make GC work too much.
(scrollingcache is for faster rendering, but I think it is not working right.)
So I disabled scrollingcache throught the all system.
And playerpro's scrolling just got OK.
This doesn't make your all scroll go smooth.
But some kinds of scroll will be better.
I tested it only on my phone. So I need a tester
This file is for CM7 weekly dec 10.

Just rename it to framework.jar,
copy it to /system/framework,
set proper permission,
and reboot.
EDIT - Made another one. Try this! I actually 'felt' the smoothness with this one. (And of course, it is for CM7 weekly dec10.)

Please tell me what you feel.
And...I think maybe blur roms will take effect by this method.
So stay tuned. I'll test it at blur based rom later

Check it out at here:

EDIT - Some people are complaining about volume mod that it is not working with poweramp.
You can use it by changing your setting.
Power Amp settings - Audio Engine - Advanced Tweaks - Uncheck 'Direct Volume Control'
This will solve the problem.
This info is by 'wd2347' from Korean Atrix forum.

I will test out more tomorrow and let you know
Will test this later on when i flash CM7, but could this fix the laggy homescreen problem our device seems to have? Every time i slide to unlock, the animation is laggy, but if i slide halfway and let go, the next time i slide to unlock, it's suddenly smooth (like you had to cycle through the animation once to get it smooth).
Good research! Looking nice
Hmm... when I try this, some things get slower like scrolling feels a (very) tiny bit 'rougher' than before.
But apart from that, the music app seems to be smooth.
This might need a further looking into because I have also noticed certain places where scrolling lags and it's quite frustrating.
I don't think you should TOTALLY disable the scrolling cache, I think you should decrease it and experiment at which value gives the best balance. Can't you take the value from MIUI?
But good start!

Thanks for testing. You are feeling same as me.
And I made another one and linked it at main post.
Will you please test once more?
OK so after trying V1 out for a little while things seem to feel smoother except right after a reboot everything seems to lag but after about 5mins. when the phone is done with all its start up processes its fine I will try out V2 in a few mins.
YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!!!!
There is NO lag AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!
Everything is BUTTERY smooth and what's better is that it seems to have solved the 'low quality overscroll issue' on my ROM!!
This will DEFINITELY be integrated into my ROM. VERY good work man and try to find more hidden tweaks in that framework.jar because the two tweaks you HAVE found are just amazing!!
Ok I'm done with this today.
(It's 1:26am here duh.. I'm so sleepy...)
Please feel free to test guys.
And Notorious544d , thanks for testing again.

Thanks for your work AndroidON. Just tried the second version on Neutrino GT, though I don't see much of a difference. I may not be using the apps this is helpful for. The only app where scrolling is a trainwreck for me is PowerAmp. The damn UI looks nice but it kills scrolling in list views. Since installation, I have to say that scrolling is more consistently choppy as opposed to variably choppy, but that may just be the OC'd kernel. For all apps I consider choppy, including PowerAmp, scrolling always achieves my standard for "butter" when in landscape view, even without OCing. Do you see this kind of performance improvement with your fix for your apps in portrait view?
Haven't noticed any other major improvements. I never had a problem with the quality of overscrolling on Neutrino which Notorious claims to have been fixed with your mod. Your effort and research skill is still very much appreciated!

I installed Poweramp and scrolled through list.
And...I see portrait scrolling is 'little' slower than landscape scrolling.
Did you have same problem in other roms like MIUI?
If so, I think it is the limit of speed for 2d performance.
I am not sure about that, but I don't see any problems through logcat.
Sorry for not giving you help.
PS. I think it will be OK when we get complete hw accelerated ICS.

hmmm....
Exactly... more intrested in LG 2.3 changelog , rather then the google one...
- add widget media
- led buttons don't always light up anymore
- no more root
- very fast wifi connexion
- 7 home pages
2 new widgets: traffic and inTouch(is 1 is really cool)
blue overscroll effect
1 nexus LWP, buttons not always lighten up,polaris office is revamped,
overall speed increased...dats about all the changes i find'
the much missed "add to playlist" is there & tweaked music app
improved text selection
2 new widgets
little revamp...progress bar has corner edges instead of the froyo rounded edges
BTW,there are 4/5 wallpapers in /system/app (.odex) which is not showing up anywhere
Camera shutter sound can be deactivated... I Know some people wanted this, I don't really know if 2.2 had it in the latest versions...
@achyut: I had Traffic from the beginning, so it's not a new widget! Actually you could be right, the rom didn't had it but if you updated the apps it was there!

thats lg changelog...look at lgblog.de
my first impressions:
-the overall responsiveness is better than in stock froyo
-lg launcher is smoother than in froyo but not perfectly smooth
-camera shutter sound can be disable but I dont know if the AF sound can be disabled
-Battery life seems to be quite good, but using 3g web browsing it can be seen a big slope in the battery graph
-GTA3 runs laggy, more than in Nova 8
-Other average games like Fruit ninja which responsiveness and smothness was not good in stock froyo now it is
-I got a force close with the market
I couldn't mess with it too much but in overall I would say until CM7 is totally bugfree this firmware is the choice for me. If you need root then I would go with Nova 8. The last CM7 rom I tried was #34 and was quite stable but meh... still not perfect and I dont want to spend so much time messing with the phone, I did it enough until now. A phone should make our lifes easier not more complicated.
