Can someone please send me a link to the correct rooting instructions for my phone.. i have seen threads and posts all over claiming how to root your rogers dream but everyone one so far has had some people ending up with bricked phones.
also id like to flash to xROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543621 ) after rooting if this is possible afterwards, unless someone can suggest a better ROM to run. thank you for any help..
New guy
try this to get the 1.33.2005 spl on your phone, then follow the guide he links you to after that.
"Try" ??? lol please excuse my skeptisism and hesitation, like i said ive already bricked one phone and not looking to shell out a few hundred dollars again for replacement #3..
can anyone verify this works FOR SURE and/or if it doesnt work, will my phone be bricked after a possible failure trying to do so?

"try" = look at this thread. if you are afraid to do it then simply don't, there is always a risk you can brick your phone, that is why everyone has a disclaimer.
i have helped someone root a rogers phone using this method, but that doesn't mean it is 100% going to work.
ok.. but will a failure while updateding the spl result in a bricked phone or will i be able to revert back to original settings?
thx u so far.. im reading VERY CAREFULLY.. lmao, ya im kinda scared..

its never a good thing when the spl fails during installation but haykuro said in the thread that is linked in the link i gave you earlier that the 1.33.2005 spl was safe for all rogers devices.
if the spl gets messed i would imagine it would result in a brick, so you will want to read up the process a good bit before you try it.
ok thank you.. 1 last question. suppose i want to keep my phone as stock as possible just want it to be rooted, what rom would i install. His instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654) say
IMPORTANT: make sure you have the rom you'd like to install in the root of your sd card as update.zip (YOU WILL NOT HAVE A ROM INSTALLED AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS, YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THE UPDATE.ZIP TO GET ONE)

does that mean i HAVE to flash one of the roms floating around here...
baby steps for me, would just like root first and a working phone b4 i start experimenting with ROMs
thank you again..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
enomther's rom are very basic but still have root access. cyanogen's stable is very stable and fast. but if you want as close to a stock rom as possible then i would go for enomther's roms.
yes flashing the 1.33.2005 will most likely wipe your phone and you will need to flash a custom rom to keep root access.
oh ok....
well that shed's a whole new light on risk-to-benefit ratio. i thought i could have a stock rom with EVERYTHING guarenteed to work that came on the phone while enjoying benefits of root access. after reading prob's with 3G etc etc etc.. im gonna sleep on it b4 i jump into rooting/flashing.
although cyanogen's stable does look promising, i think running into issue's and finding things that dont work would drive me crazy. lol
thank you very much david, really appreciate your help/advice. Your the kind of member that everyone hopes to hear from.

Now, that is a preference question. They are all good. Just make sure you have hardspl installed before you go anywhere. Once it's installed, choose your rom poison and flash. If you dont like the rom, flash a different one. Might I suggest flashing via SD card though. Much safer and quicker.

why I'm closing this thread.
Welcome to Kaiserdom, any questions you might have about proper forum manners and What this place is about can be answered by visiting the links in m signature (none of them are too mean, I promise).
Rather new to this..I've searched around but I do not see anything that tells me the very simple steps i'm sure on how to flash your radio. I want to place the 1.71.09.01 Radio on my AT&T Tilt "T-mobile's Network" running 3.57.00.00 Stock ROM. What are the necessary steps for me to accomplish this rather simple goal. I see people on here flashing radios faster than they are pissing. Thanks ahead of time and please don't yell at me or band me or tell me to look because i've tried.
This is all covered in this thread.

Hey Dave that thread is 50 Pages deep my good man
Which page gives you step by step instructions on how to flash your radio? I already know that the Radio Version that I picked works with the ROM Version I have...I found that on that thread an hour ago..I just need the step by step instructions on how to change it.

Step by step? Here... well....
No no no dude, read the Wiki.
Come on Kriss..don't be like that dude
Do you have a link for that specific wiki page? I'm still searching that one link by the way Dave..each page..to see if I can see specific steps on how to do this. See I know both of you guys know how to do this with your eyes closed...could you just tell me please...oh and i'm not being a butt about this like i've seen a few guys up on here do.....I have thick skin..but please don't take me down a road where you'll purposely brick my phone because I asked how to do this.....now then and only then will my skin start to slide off at that point! LOL!!!!
Also keep in mind i'm a newbee!
I don't know what SPL means or stands for.....I don't know what it means when you put the words "HARD", "SOFT" or "JUMP" in front of it either. Whats the difference and what are they used for?
In that post there is some snippet's of what you need to do
1. Install Hard SPL (Read the ROM Development Stickies for how to do this)
2. Download Radio
3. Run KaiserCustomRUU on your PC to flash the Radio (or follow the SD Card method in the thread I posted).
EDIT:
There is an SPL Questions on the Wiki that explains all about SPL's

It is really easy to find.... you must just WANT to do it.
Hey I just found that WIKI Thread
right before I checked back to see if you responded...thanks alot..I'm checking out the other one right now.
Hey Kris I know how to put a ROM on my phone
All I have to do is click on the .exe file. Now cooked ROMS thats where it gets interesting. However I'm more interested in the RADIO's. I don't want to change my ROM..I only want to change the RADIO.

The process is the same.
The only difference is what you download to flash.

Hey man I know exactly what you mean....Take a look at this thread and post #10. Gives you step by step instructions on flashing a ROM/SPL/Radio. Without it I would still be on the stock ROM as trying to piece together 500 pages of "Wiki" is not very helpful at all. My personal appreciation to mbarvian who took the time to put it down.
Anyway hope it helps you as much as me.
Now see VolleyKing you are the shizznick!!!
Thank you very much...thats all and everything I had asked for. I needed it explained to me in "your stupid terms" I got it...and I just flashed my 1st Radio Version 1.71.09.01. Testing it out now.
Congrats Baby Face...without the step by step instructions I would have been to chicken to try flahing a new ROM....which I am enjoying immensely I must say!!
Thanks goes to Mbarvian who put it down without being critical of the person who asked for it.....you my hero!!
I honestly dont know how in the hell people have such a hard time finding the information on this wiki. I mean for gods sake, did you EVER look at the VERY first page of the kaiser WIKI?????
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
In this 1 very first MAIN page of the KAISER WIKI, the links for detailed explanations with all of the answers 90% of the time 1 link deep is right there. See? Look. There is a section called ROM UPGRADING.
Here is a quote from that page
"
1.
Don't know what a ROM is?
* Watch this first, and read the ROM Flashing FAQ.
2.
Don't know what a SPL is?
* After reading the basics if you are still confused about SPLs, or which SPL you want, read SPL Questions?.
3.
Upgrading your ROM can void your warranty. Worried?
* Browse through how to revert back ROM and SPL for warranty return before you start.
4.
Think you're ready?
* Read some things to know before and after you flash.
5.
Ready now?
* Start here with the Introduction to ROM Flashing to find out!
6.
Still confused?
* How about another how to flash the ROM thread.
* Or, How to flash the ROM using a MicroSD Card
7.
Worried about too much flashing will brick your phone?
* Read about the effects of ROM flashing
"
See?? All of the major information is right there ! Dont look to the forums for answers ....... try starting at page 1 and seeing all of the wonderful information there
I think at least part of the trouble people have with the wiki is a 'comfort zone' with the language.... as a total novice you can read 10 threads explaining how to flash... but only need to read one thread saying that someone bricked their phone to throw you back to 'compleatly unsure of what i thought i had learnt...'. this is frustrating for senior members and techno boffins because they are soo comfortable with the language that they don't see it as different to their every day language... so to them the wiki looks 'and IS' a step by step process....
for the novices there is only one solution to this problem... as everyone keeps screaming... READ READ READ ... then ask some stupid questions.... hide you head in shame... READ READ READ... and it will slowly take shape and make sense... The information is ALL there... the xda team and the community have done an incredible job here and as a novice you may not realise how much time and effort (off their own back) has been put in to get all the information, roms, patches, fixes and just plain information and make it availiable. it really is not as hard as it initially appears because of the wiki and it info... and if after all that reading it all... you still can't bring yourself to take that step... well....... maybe you should just leave it alone
for me... i have been reading these forums for only a year now and can see i have only just begun my education
I am a total novice but may be able to help with any one who's just starting out.. pm me and if a can help i will be happy to.

Excellent points in regarding newbie's, it is a bit over whelming when you start the first step up the ladder, the language does takes quite a bit of time to get a handle on...
simpler terms do help greatly...

Hey, just flashed to 4.0.2 and flashed fine but hangs at tmobile screen.
none of adb commands work except adb devices. other commands just quit
flashed 3.6.8.1 n tht worked fine and ran fine. tried upgrading from that still samething.
Ne help b appreciated.
did you wipe? it installed fine for me
Yea I tried almost everything. Still I boot it up type web logcat on pc right b4r powering it on it says waiting for devices 2 sec into bootup the command prompt exits
Did you wipe your ext3 partition too? Wondering if that could cause problems.
What SPL are you running?

I'm running hakuro's newest spl and radio I don't have an ext partition as I don't need app2sd since I don't have many apps
did you check the md5sum of your download against the one in his thread?

Hmmm... the only thing I can think of then is a corrupt download, as david1171 is alluding to.
I've also heard of a newer issue where the device memory can fill up, and there being some process using Fastboot to erase everything (different than wiping). I'm not up to date on it though, and have asked if there's any way to clear everything through recovery console or terminal. Still waiting to hear on that.
Not sure if that is your problem, but try looking around in Cyan's thread for a potential solution. Keep us updated if you figure it out.
can u run a logcat and see where its looping?
Hey guys, nope the md5 matches perfectly, uansari if u cud point me as to how to erase using fastboot that would be great and is it safe or would i have to go back to rc29 n start all over again ? B-man007 yea i cant run logcat either. it just quits when i type adb logcat it goes back to command line.

I would love to point you to those directions, but unfortunately, I don't know much about it. Someone else posted something along the lines of the problem you're having in a separate thread, and someone replied that this was discussed in Cyanogen's thread and required Fastboot to erase something or other.
Wish I could be more help... I'll try to find the thread where I read that and link you.
Edit: Here is the thread. Shoot a PM over to the guy who posted about it, or do some searching and let us know what you find out. Good luck man...

Who did you message? There was someone who responded to the OP in that thread about the fastboot fix. I've messaged him as well, but haven't heard back yet.
Your other point is well taken though... If you can flash other ROMs fine, then it has to be something else. What other roms have you used? Try a different dev's rom, like JACxROM or the rooted standard rom from enomther. If those aren't flashing right either, then we need to keep looking for a solution, but if they flash right then we've narrowed it down.
hmm im running xRom 1.3 just fine, i flashed 3.6.8.1 just fine 2 n ran fine. Hmm let me try cyans 4.0.1 n c if i get this wierd hang.
Hmm same problem with 4.0.1....so basically up to 3.6.8.1 worked fine and after those i get the same stupid hang. Does that narrow ne thing lol ?
Try installing 3.9.10 and jump to 4.0.2.

These were all ROM that were used on the HD2 while it was in development. 2.10.1 is the actual shipping ROM. That seems to be the one we can't get.

Thank you bro!
I just sent PM, I am definitely willing to dump rom from my stock TMOUS HD2.
i get it. my bad. man, getting my hands on this rom will definitely give the freedom I think we all want to be able to safely flash.
thanks for this thread dude, even though there's like four "stock hd2 ROM" threads in this section, I think with someone willing to walk through someone else through the steps of a ROM dump, is so AWSOME. thank-you guys.

2 People here on XDA are trying to dump it, more info will follow!
xmoo- Just need a walk through on how to dump my TmoUS rom. Also, I am looking to increase the intensity of the vibe, do you know of any cooked roms that would include this feature? Already flashed hspl. Thanks

Thanks for the roms. So the shipped rom puts the tmo hd2 exactly as it would have been had you bought it on the 24th including all cabs etc?
So if I just use the hspl2 unlocker (2.08) and go use say the tmobile hd2 energy rom but need to return it for service I can use the shipped rom just to be official and have it restored to the first rom?
any update on this. if not and you dont have the rom i will dump it off my other HD2 tmobile this saturday.

So I tried twice. The first time just went slow, after more than 2 hours my wife wanted her phone back. The second time I rebooted the phone, killed the data connection and started the dump process, it started a lot faster but after about 1 hour it slowed way down and I couldn't tell if it was hung up or not. I let it run another 1/2 hour and it didn't appear to have made any more progress.
Ideas?
stranger- Can you give me a brief on what app, program you are using to dump your rom. Also, I would like to post my rom as it is stock with a few tweaks which include: Wifi router, reset button, mp3 trimmer, and SRS WOW audio booster. I already flashed HSPL2. Thanks
I've been trying to find a way to dump my ROM for days now. I have an unmodified TMOUS HD2 ready to dump. (Well, only mod is i put in the 6 row start menu cab, but I can uninstall that easy enough.)
When I asked for a way to dump my stock TmoUS rom, I received a reply with a link to this forum. I am not sure how to use this program but maybe one of you can. Good Luck

Willing to Dump TMOUS ROM
I just picked up my HD2 a few minutes ago, I haven't even powered it on, but I'm willing to dump a ROM. I've been flashing for years, but I'm not familiar with the dumping process.
Dumping
Have an hd2...still sorting out the process of dumping with no kitchen system.
havik, tiger- Two post up I included a link to a kitchen program that is compatible with the TmoUS HD2. I have never done any cooking and am totally new to WinMo so if your able to dump your stock rom please post it here.
Hi,
I received my galaxy s today and I realy like it. While using it I saw much things get a lil laggy like app market. I want information for the best Rom/Kernel and how I have to flash it. The phone doesn't have CWM or something its just new with the original android froyo. I want to make it fast and let it have more ram free and maybe overclock it an bit.
So please tell me whats the best to do and give me some guide to flash.

Lol, that's nice, you have the phone for a day and you already want to flash it. Welcome btw!
First of all, get the 3 button download mode working on your phone, and if it's working you can think about flashing. You'll also need Odin for the 1st time(it's a handy software to flash your phone).
It's quite a hard to tell everything, so all I can recommend it to search through the sticky posts in the development section(and generally everywhere). After that you'll have a rough idea what to put on the phone and how.
Hi and welcome ,
If you don't want to brick your phone, first of all and mother of all custom flasher is to read all sticky topics here (twice or more if possible, in particularly the 3 Combo one): http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=657 .
Remember it's better to ask before a flash than being sorry.
Enjoy your flashing.
Thanks for the replys,
Yes I want to flash it the first day because i had a htc hd2 before this one and I had android on it (flashed) and I liked it very much.
I have an 3 button boot and I come in an boot menu whichs looks like cwm but with less options, ill check out odin. Any rom or kernels you guess suggest?

The combo JS7/Speedmod is a good option to start.
Howto:

Agree Rom Kitchin least problems but do read all the FAQS on the pages to decide what to put in your rom .

What to do? Do I need a kind of driver?
If someone wants to help me flashing my sgs through msn send a private message please
Odin don't detect the phone, simple, and yes it's a driver issue.
No offense, but sorry i'll not help you further more until you read the basic (your issue is a part of the basic btw). Careful you'll end with a brick phone!!! (don't want to be responsible of that)
At least give me a link to the ''basic''

Oh really??? come on!! take your time and read carefuly, with rush you'll end with a bad bad surprise. But well it's up to you.
In the same page you spot and read right now i can quote this:
Prerequisites: The android SDK, which you can download from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and the USB drivers for your phone, which you can get by either installing Kies or by downloading and installing these drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?a6ni32dk6nn953b (password is 'ragin' -- I didn't test them, so feedback on these is welcome).
