Does anyone use the screen covers or anything like it? Or does anyone think its pointless? Need some guidance on what to do. Thanks!

i didn't think i did when i got my first g1 but then my jeans put a few small scratches in the screen so when i got second phone a week ago i ordered the ZAGG invisibleshield for it, i haven't gotten it yet but should tomorrow or the next day, but i would definitely recommend getting one.
The absolute best protector I've ever used is the one made by Seidio. It's a dry install and the film is as smooth as the screen itself. I've also used the Zagg Invisible Shield..it's nearly inpenetrable, but it takes away much of the smoothness of the original screen, so your finger won't glide as smoothly. It's texture is also very much like orange peel. Also, you have to use a wet method to install this...it's not really a big deal, but some are weary of taking the risk.
Right now, I'm using the Clear Protector, which is a lot like Zagg, but smoother in texture. Kind of in between the two. Definitely closer to the Zagg though, and the install is done the same way.
For what it's worth, I've thought about it a lot recently. I'm so anal, that if any part of my phone got beat up i'd be irritated and looking to replace it. So if it falls hard enough to scratch the screen either way, it'll probably be getting replaced shortly thereafter... but I also have a dedicated pocket where I don't put anything in with my phone, so I don't have to worry about things like key scratches.
Cliff's notes: You probably don't need one if you're like me...but if you're not, look at the Seidio or Clear Protector.
@uansari1 completely off topic, but i noticed that i can't get the stock cupcake download off of google's code page, so thank you for uploading it somewhere else
i use the screen protectors from tmobile for the mt3g on my g1. they fit perfect and work really well. 10 bucks for 2 was a little steep i thought, but i got to cover both my g1's so it was worth it!

I have the ZAGG full body cover. It's not bad. The protection is great, it ever saved me from cracking my screen a few times butcause of the way it's bonded. The only things I don't care for is the fact that it kinda looks like an orange peel, (you understand when you put it on), and your fingers stick to, rather than glide across the screen.

Make sure you read the directions... Seidio puts a nice tab on their protectors to make installation a breeze. Just make sure your screen is totally dust-free first.

yes, it does, it's very thin and probably easy to overlook, I'd recommend buying a 3 pack of clear touch protectors. They're a little expensive considering it's just a thin piece of plastic, but it's a lot cheaper than replacing your screen, and you can wash and reuse them. They're made by boxwave, you can probably do a google search and find it really easily.
here's a link if you're thinking about getting some. http://www.boxwave.com/products/cleartouch/cleartouch-screen-protector-htc-tytn-ii_2905.htm
is it pre-installed then? i really hope so, because ive put a scratch on it already
Mine came with one. As said it was very easy to overlook as it was just a small card with it on it. I almost missed it. I actually really like it. Mines been holding up better that some of the others I got for my other devices.

nope it's just a really thin piece of plastic, i messed around w/mine for about 30 seconds before i realized it was crap and ordered the set from boxwave, as far as your scratch, maybe give this a shot, let me know how it works in case i ever need it for an emergency scratch. http://www.1800mobiles.com/lenspolish.html or just have your screen replaced, but i have no idea what that will cost.

if i remember correctly you probably peel the clear protector of that card.
I highly recommend ScreenPatronus for their screen protectors. I've been using PDA's for 5 years now and they are by far the best screen protectors I have ever used. They are only $6.50 for a set of three, so the price is very reasonable too.
my tilt came with a cover..good ole salesman of mine reminded me not to overlook it
Yes
I don't know why.....mine did.....luck I guess
First off, hi guys - new HD2 (Leo) owner here and have to say I love it!!
Anyway, thought I'd just say something about this product. It's rubbish...
Poor fit, didn't stick properly and bubbles galore - stay well clear of it IMO
Anyway, will be lingering about as still getting my head about WinMo and the various ROMs about - still running stock 1.48 ROM out the box but it's an awesome phone and definitely glad I got it...
Well my friend, for a first post it's a good point well made. The HTC screen protectors are ****e! I managed to lay mine without bubbles, but at the bottom where it fits over the buttons it keeps lifting up and just doesn't settle properly. It's now starting to get crap underneath it, completely defeating it's intended purpose.
Final verdict... EPIC FAIL!
Oh and Welcome to XDA Developers EddyOS. I'm sure you'll be a flashaholic in no time.

Did yours come with a screen protector in the box? I didn't see one in mine but I may have overlooked it, or different packaging in Asia. So tomorrow I'm on a hunt to find one.
I dont recal there being one in mine either. Hmm maybe i should look alittle harder.
Maybe they ordered the original OEM ones from HTC as a side-order!?
I did, and mine are in the mail.
Should arrive tomorrow...
Hope they are not as bad as stated in this post...
Will be sure to comment on it here when I get them
Yeah, bought mine from the HTC Shop - didn't get any in the box...
Ordered mine too... complete waste of money
I got the official ones too, I thought it was me just fitting it badly as it didn't seem to fit the screen and had bubbles. I couldn't get it to sick below the buttons either. It had to come off. I got another one from Amazon and it now fits as I would expect it to.
I would not recommend the official protector from HTC, sorry.
What ones did you get in the end? Might be tempted to get one to be on the safe side but my phone does stay in it's pouch when not in use...
Why would you need to have a screen protector......
If you guys have been hiding under your bed sheets then its time to wake up.
Leo, AKA HD2 had a scratch resistant glass and not a cheap plastic face.
Just have a look at the following link and you will agree....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
you need guts to do it, but i didnt have the guts to do that.
But atleast the screen protector is not needed.
Of course a screen protector is needed. It may be made of glass, but it's not bullet proof glass!

This is the one I went for from Amazon. Fits much better than the official HTC one as it sits just slightly within the screen profile rather than exactly the same size. I have a 100% fix now.
But as one of the posts above points out, we shouldn't really need a protector on it because it is scratch resistant, but I go for peace of mind.
GUYS!
Please stay away from HTC screen protector. It is the worst screen protector I have ever had. First of all it is almost impossible to apply correctly, I had 4 and scrapped every single one! (just to say it is not the first device with big screen I tried to apply screen protector and I never had troubles before). Second thing is that it gets very smudgy.... for me complete waste of money.

Completely aggree with you. I also waste 3 of them. finally a give up!
Not recomended!
My HTC screen-protectors arrived today...
And I have to admit, I didn't really believe the people writing about how bad they were.
But I have to aggree, what a piece of s***!
I got 2 in the pack, and the first one messed up on a biblical level for me.
The second one actually seemed to fit as intended, but I just couldn't get the corner to fit right...
I got away with no bubbles underneath, but the damn corner just couldn't fit.
We're talking a matter of milimeters here...
Stay away from them, like everyone else is saying
I'll join the chorus.
I ordered a pack of 2, and quickly noticed that they're very different from the (actually quite OK) HTC HD protectors.
The adhesive side seems to attract small particles from the air within seconds. Just one such small particle produces an ugly bubble. I don't want to be seen with such bubbles. My wife would call be "Bubble Boy".
Since the adhesive is quite strong, it's impossible to make minute adjustments the moment a part of the protector touches the glass. This is compounded by the exact measurements - even when I thought it fit wonderfully on one end of the screen, the other end collided with the screen bezel, making it a bust.
The protector is also very thin and flexible, so it is almost impossible to hold without bending and getting fingerprints underneath, further ruining its appearance.
This product should be retracted from the market. I completely understand why the HD2 doesn't come bundled with these protectors:
1. they're practically impossible to fit
2. the HD2's glass doesn't really need it
I'll live hard and fast, without protection.
What for?
My HD2 is rocking along very nicely without a screen protector... with this scratch resistant glass, I really didn't see the point.
I avoid putting my phone in the same pocket as my loose change or my keys - but that was a pretty easy adjustment to make.
... Just don't see what I'd want to use a screen protector for other than to take a beautifully slim piece of art look like something it's not.

I don't see how applying a screen protector that's probably less than 0.5mm thick will ruin the look of the device.
Its about personal choice
Screen protector or no screen protector? Condom or no condom? Safety glasses or no safety glasses? Its a matter of choice linked to a a personal assessment of risk, cost and benefit.
I always use one........

It's not "needed". It's scratch resistant glass - we have discussed this here before. It's the same type of glass you get with better watches. Do you use them with a protector? If you "want" damage the glass you can do this with force, but then a screen protector wouldn't help neither.
Have you guys tried the screen protector that came with your Zenus Galaxy Tab case?
It's good but, hard to put on without bubbles.
Idk what you gonna get, but I have to mention one thing,
the case make singnal little weak. I confirmed.
I'm still love one so I just keep using it, but some times little annoying when I making a call.
Hmm..even though they advertise that their protector is bubble resistant etc, it does have them eh?
P.S. I already have the case, I'll check the signal, thanks

Oops...I'll have to try that too...it doesn't make much sense though...why lose the signal? it's just leather.. ??
Bubble city when I applied mine. In the end I got so annoyed i wanted to burn the damn thing...
Assuming you have the case, i'm not sure what point there is the the protector anyway.

I've ordered a Samsung one with my tab for £5 which is hopefully ok - in case one doesn't come with the Zenus case. If the Samsung one is rubbish, I'll go with Martin Fields as they have never let me down (4x the price though).
Hi everybody!
The past 3 months, i've been the proud owner of an HTC one, but something has been bothering me for some time now: even though i am very careful with my phone and keep the case on it at all times, the back has accumulated quite a lot of small 'craters'. These only seem to appear where the back should be protected by the hard part of my official htc one double dip flip case. I have checked time and time again if there was any sand in between, and there never was any, nor was there anything else in there.
I will try to post a decent picture later on, but i was wondering: what should i do? Do i have any chance to get a new device?

You should use a TPU case. I got myself the Cimo one. It's flexible and offer all around protection, except for the speaker grills. Just clean it inside as a precaution before putting your phone in there. Your flip case obviously got some debris inside which pressed against the soft aluminium back of the phone when you closed it and put it in your pocket or bag.

I just did that last night. The OtterBox Commuter has the best protection v/s slimness.I got myself the black one. I really wanted the Glacier model but the colors in reality do not match what you see in the rendered pictures. The light grey is actually absolutely white and the darker grey is actually light grey. I don't want a white case as my phone is black for a reason - no worries about dust, etc making it look dirty.

Avoid the case, it's crap. I've got the double dip too which has been fine although some people have said that it also has scratched their One, so take care with it.
A silicon case is obviously the safest choice but then again it's not going to be the prettiest either.
I've actually not got anything on mine at all now, I love the aesthetics of the phone and putting a case on it is just going to spoil that.
Have never dropped it yet (touch wood) and if I ever break it then i'll just get another one anyway so not really bothered too much.
PS: The urban cases are pretty good, you should check them out if youre looking for something rugged and decent looking.

Hi all,
Fitted my Flex HD protector (front and rear, pics below)... Rear fits great height-wise, but a bit short width-wise, not bad in general though... Quite good at applying these protectors and I got it without a single bubble
Front one though was a different story... It was my first ever wet-protector install and I'm not entirely sure about it. The fit is GREAT! Just not sure how well my actual application has gone...
Anyone installed this specific protector on this phone and able to offer any advice on whether the bubbles shown will work themselves out over a few days as it says they should? Doesn't seem to be any dust below, just bubbles
Thanks!
They'll go away. It took mine two days to disappear. the first day I saw a few and tried to move them out and by the second night I couldn't see any bubbles.
you can always take it off and re-install. The pray that comes with it does not work as well as a small bowl of water with a drop of dischwashing soap. Make sure your fingers are good and wet and they with some practice you should be able to get much less bubbles right away. I am a perfectionist and it took me 4 applications to get it perfect. I had zero bubbles as soon as I was done and it took about 1 day for the excess moisture to dry for a perfect application. No hair, dust or bubbles. Surpirsingingly, I really like how this SP feels on the phone, and I always have used tempered glass.
The good thing about a wet application is that you get second chances, unlike glass (at least i my experience)
good luck
Mine looked the same as your's OP, by the end of the night most of the small bubbles were gone. Really hoping the rest of them work themselves out over the next few days. Most comments I've read say they do, so I'm optimistic as I am a perfectionist as well. Can't stand the sight of bubbles or blemishes in my screen protector.

I see the orange peel effect and i have ordered this screen protector does the effect go away over time? is it a matter of stretching as much as possible during application with the card?
Thanks all
It seems that after about 12 hours it is looking a lot better, not quite perfect yet though
I also see now there are a couple of bits of dust (I made the mistake of putting it back down on the sheet after taking it off initially to clean the screen again)... Surprisingly though the bits with the dust aren't the worst bubbles, in fact they're not very visible at all
Will give it a few more days then maybe post some more pics for people to see what it is like
It took mine about a week for all the bubbles to work themselves out, but now that the did I can't even tell I have a screen protector on my phone. Really happy with the front protector!
I'm gonna have to redo it as it has dust from when I put it down
But yes the bubbles in general surprisingly are sorting themselves out
Anyone think their screen looks slightly yellowish hue after installing this? I don't recall how mine looked before so I'm really hoping this is so and it's not my actual screen. If it's my screen then I will be exchanging if because it's quite irritating. And it's perfectly white when I hold the screen at an angle instead of dead on.

After 2 days, all blemishes and bubbles are gone. I've had several people say they had no idea there was even a screen protector on until I told them. It feels like glass and doesn't have that rubbery feel to it like how some other "wet" application screen protectors feel. I also don't have any discoloration due to the screen protector either. I can honestly say I love how it looks.
I was very skeptical at first since this was my first "wet" application screen protector. I've always used the one and done "dry" application ones. The application process was very nerve racking with all that "solution" on my phone, and trust me I was with everyone else with how my phone looked initially. But after letting it settle for a few days, I can say I'm glad I went with this screen protector that wraps from edge to edge versus going with one that only covered the top of the screen. I highly recommend it to anyone on the fence :good:

YMMV, some people here claim it goes away but I frankly don't believe them. The orange peel effect is there and in full force even after a week. There's even a bubble that will not go away even though there is no dust underneath. I'm returning this one ASAP and I recommend against anyone buying it.

I don't think this is brilliant. Those "bubbles" don't look like they'll disappear. Looks like a defective screen protector. Did these ever go away? Wonder if others had the same problem and it is a result of a faulty batch

And I thought I did a good job. You sir are a master at installing liquid install protectors. If I were to place my phone next to yours it would look like ****, although I did install mine in the car, outside of best buy, on my lap, on a rainy day with no light, because I didn't dare put the phone in my phone or any where else for the drive home.
Oh well, good thing it came with 2 protectors. Can always try again.
