After flashing Cyanogen 4.11.1 I went back to 4.0.4., and I now have no lock screen. After hitting any button it goes right to the home screen. I reflashed with no luck. I even set the lock pattern and that doesn't appear either.
Any help would be appreciated.
try wiping your phone and then reflash 4.0.4
I was trying to put off a complete wipe, but it did clear it up. thanks.

I am trying to install cyanogen on my nexus one.
I get a black screen with unresponsive buttons when I try to root with superboot. Only after removing the battery and reinserting it I can start my nexus again.
I do have root (as I checked with su in a terminal app).
If I go in the HBOOT menu and select recovery, I don't get the recovery menu (as on a friend's nexus) but my nexus reboots and goes into the same black screen after which no button works.
Help! Since I can't get into recovery to do a nandroid backup or install the cyanogen rom.
edit:
The same happens if I try to do a factory reset (settings, privacy, Factory data reset, reset phone): I get a black screen with unresponsive buttons.
Somebody said I might have an SLCD screen.
Indeed this was the problem! After flashing recovery-RA-nexus-v1.8.0.1-aw.img my problem is solved.
I'm running Cyanogen 7.01 and after my phone crashed yesterday, it is now stuck on the white clearstorage screen every time I turn it on (the one with three skateboarding androids).
I've tried lots of things to get to a point where I can install a new ROM (I have my stuff backed up) and wipe this old one. But, no dice. Here is what I've done:
1) The clearstorage screen asks if I want to delete user data. If I select no, the screen turns off and then takes me back to the clearstorage screen. If I select yes, it reads "Clear..." then quickly flashes "Press MENU to restart" before rebooting into the clearstorage screen again. If I hold the menu button down while the screen reads "Clear..." the phone boots into the HTC screen indefinitely (I waited 45 min).
2) I tried getting into the bootloader screen (Volume down key and power). Took me to the clearstorage screen.
3) I tried getting into Fastboot. Took me to the clearstorage screen.
4) Holding the key combo for a hard reset takes me to the clearstorage screen.
5) Holding the key combo for a factory reset me to the clearstorage screen.
6) I tried pulling out the SD card during boot and while in the clearstorage screen. No dice.
So, I'm not sure what my other options are. I can't get to the phone via my computer's command line since my computer can't detect my phone when it's in this state.
Thanks so much for reading this and for any help you can offer.

I thought the 3 skateboarding androids was the boot screen? What does it say on the screen? If it shows that if you hit "home" button it will take you to recovery. It should say H-boot on there I believe.
If it does, press the home button and not the menu button, and that should take you into recovery where you can wipe everything and restore your nandroid or install a new rom.
Or power off, then hold home press power. Recovery?
BANG! from my shooter...
Kudos to both of you guys for the responses.
I've actually been able to get to recovery by (duh) holding the home and power key down until I get the recovery screen.
However, after wiping the user data, cache, and davlik cache and installing a new ROM rebooting, I still get back the clearstorage screen.
I've tried to install a few different RUUs from the recovery screen and I get a message along the lines of "[RUU file] is bad. Cannot install"
It's most bizarre.
At this point I've got my data backed up to my computer and will do whatever to unbrick this phone.
Thanks again for all your help!

What recovery are you using? If it's clockwork, go into mounts and storage and format system, boot, cache, data 3x each. Yes, I said 3x. Then, try and flash something besides an ruu. Many of those are to use as a HERCIMG.zip, not to flash in recovery. Judd you want to go to a sense 2.1 rom, try an nfx one or something ( at least to see of it works and you can update prl and other things too. Or, reinstall another gb Rom. I don't know I'd you are trying to get back to stock to take back or something. I say, get it working, then look for a flashable ruu from recovery.

This is an executable HTC RUU that is to be run from your PC. Hook your phone up via the USB. Then double click the RUU on your PC. Follow the instructions. It will set your phone back to 2.27.651.6 and will be unrooted.
also, this may seem stupid, but if you were going from aosp to sense or vice versa, reflash your recovery first.
Was on CM9 wiped everything. Clean install and flashed a JB rom (CM10) and am now stuck on boot screen? I am flashing for a friend I rooted his phone a while ago and needed to update him. I do this on my own HTC device all the time. So i am not sure what one does when stuck on a samsung device. Help is greatly appreciated

Is it bootlooping? How long as it been on the boot screen?
Are you able to get in recovery? If so, reflash (dirty) right over CM10. If that doesn't work, get in download mode, flash stock KK4 with Odin then Corn kernel with Odin 1.85, from there, you can flash CM10 and the Gapps.

what is the method to get into Recovery without the power button? My friend just told me his button is janky at best? It goes to the white AT&t screen then sits on that screen the whole time never moves sometimes is goes black but just pops back up. We wiped everything so there is nothing to boot to. We were trying to just wipe everything clean and start over to just clean up the device. So what options do I have, or do you suggest? thanks again

The bootloop you are experiencing isn't really something that you did wrong. Going from ICS to JB includes a partition layout change and when you flash a JB rom the first time it will either reboot during the first flash or it will flash quickly(only flashing the new kernel and changing the layout) then when you try to boot you end up in a bootloop.
Now as far as getting back into recovery... my power button is jacked too so heres some ideas for you. If you do a battery pull and then replace it does the phone automatically power on? If yes then do a battery pull, then before replacing it, hold down the power and both volume buttons. Insert the battery while still holding them all. You should then see the att screen then maybe the kernel splash screen or itll just go black. As soon as you see the att screen again release all of the buttons and it will (hopefully) boot you into recovery. This has worked for me even though my power button doesn't work.

The method of adb or at least "[Utility] ADB Portable by Red_81" found in the dev forum would work... but only if somehow ur debugging was enabled. If not, then download mode is the only option.---hold both volume +&- and insert mirco usb...

Hopefully you guys can help me with my problem. Recently, I downloaded the new Marshmallow app drawer from Android Pit's "Here's how to get Android Marshmallow's new app drawer on Lollipop". It was successfully installed and seemed to be working fine. However, Google Now gave me a message saying that it was not connected to the microphone and that I should reboot my device. Thinking that the actual reboot key combo was power and volume down, I did this and this brought me to the fastboot page. I selected and entered the power up normally option on the top, which the booted my phone to a completely black screen, from which only the "power off" option would show if I held the power button down. I was confused and concluded that the app drawer somehow soft bricked my phone. After reading up on the web, I went into recovery in the fastboot screen, then selected clear cache. Two lines of orange text appeared at the bottom saying that the cache clear was starting and that it was finishing. I hit the power button, tried to boot my phone up, then, recieving another black screen, brought back up the fastboot menu and tried to enter the recovery screen again so that I could factory reset my device. The recovery screen gave me messages about how it could not load the cache, and since then has been flashing on a set interval on my screen (going black, showing the broken Android with "no command" then going black again).
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem?
note: (I have not rooted my phone)

What is the actual model of your phone. Did you have an unlocked bootloader with TWRP?
The black screen problem can only be fixed by doing a factory reset. After you get into the screen with the dead android and an exclamation mark. You need to press power and volume buttons to make a menu appear. Then choose factory reset. Unfortunately you will lose your data, but this will fix it.

I have solved the issue... I believe it was stuck in some sort of loop with the revovery mode, because that was flashing periodically on the screen. I was eventually able to get the recovery screen to actually stay on the screen and then reset it. Thanks for the quick reply!

I have solved the issue but the actual model is the Moto X 2nd Generation Pure Editon without the bootloader unlocked for anyone with similar issues. Thanks for helping out!
I'm having the same issue today with a Moto X Gen 1 after accepting Verizon's OTA upgrade to Lollipop. Only I can't boot to recovery.

I'm still having the problem that you were facing and cannot get out of that loop sequence. I've booted over and over, tried to launch recovery and nothing... I see some yellow text at the bottom only briefly staying that something couldn't load, then back to the dead-droid/red triangle (no command) for a split second, over and over... I am stuck.

I'm having this exact same problem too! The 'dead droid' just constantly flashes over and over, so I am unable to do anything. There was one time when I held power and the low battery icon showed up with a yellow exclamation mark triangle, but I haven't been able to get that screen again. I contacted Motorola and they told me to try and go to settings and do a factory reset... I just told you I can't turn on my phone! What the hell man. I have tried so many things online and none of them worked. From what I'm reading the only was to fix this is to flash a blank bootloader, but those files haven't been released yet.
The worst part is that I have only been using this phone for ONE DAY!:crying:

okay so after several guides and steps, i finally got my Moto X (1st Gen) working again using the tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWDwyqUF6k4
Essentially i flashed a custom recovery like the PhilZ Touch recovery here http://www17.zippyshare.com/v/40132571/file.html by renaming the "philz_touch_6.58.7-ghost.img" file to "boot.img" in fastboot mode and rebooted after that.
And that was it, phone rebooted and is working fine.
Hi All,
I've been running the same ROM on my G4 for the past few months with no issues. 20(i?) M bootloader on a debloated ROM...I don't even remember which ROM I had stuck with, but it was based off stock...NOT CM/AOSP/AOKP. That being said, it crashed on me earlier today(went black, thought it was a locked screen, but it wouldn't wake with double-tap or power button) and I can't get it to boot. It will go to the Logo screen with the Bootloader unlocked message, but I can't get past that. I can get it into the factory data reset menu to attempt to boot into TWRP, but after selecting yes the second time, it will pause on that screen like normal, then go black...I can't even get the TWRP splash screen. I can't get it to boot into download mode either. When it goes black it's unresponsive. I have to pull the battery to do any reboots. Any ideas on how to bring my phone back to life?
