I have just installed the new HTC ROM (1.19.401.1) over my original Vodafone ROM, but have noticed that for some reason I no longer have an FM Radio. I used to use it quite a bit on the Vodafone ROM, so any ideas why its missing on the official HTC ROM and more importantly, how do I get it back?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521356
or install EnergyRom Genesis (see my sig), the ROM is much better than stock and the radio app is already installed. The standard version is extremely stable, with the added bonus of WinMo 6.5, you won't look back!
Just a note of caution. You would have to install Hard SPL on your phone to install/flash any custom ROM. Which would void the warranty of your device.
Almost all Custom ROMs that are released here on XDA have FM Radio installed in them. So you can try any ROM.
But you are someone who is not aware of how ROM Flashing works... please take time to read through the stickys first before going ahead with it.
Its DEFINITELY not like installing a CAB.
Good luck.
Thanks for that. You are correct that I am new to flashing ROM's - although I have been using HTC devices for sometime now - but seeing as Vodafone have been so unco-operative when it comes to updating their ROM and also insisting on their horrible Red theme, then I figured I'd give it a shot.
I suppose worse can scenario would be if the phone ever needed to go back for repair, I could also ensure that the latest version of their ROM was installed.
Question answered.
Please search and read the sticky posts before starting a new thread. You'll find most common questions are answered somewhere .

Okay I am a newbie and I installed the Mr Clean rom which is fine but how would I install the previous rom I had witch was the one from the HTC website? Basically all I am tring to do is change my splash screen and I have no idea how but I want the old rom but it doesn't seem to want to let me roll it back.
OK newbie, try searching the forum for your solutions first - you will be surprised what you might find. This took me less than a minute to locate.

Basicly Faria has put together a bunch of different splash screens which will install in exactly the same fashion as a new ROM would. As it only loads a new slpash screen you will not lose any data. You will also be able to keep the Mr. Clean ROM but have a different splash screen. There are at least 2 HTC splashes listed and the one that I had a quick look at has a preview so you can see which one you prefare before you do the install.
Enjoy...
But is it possible to go back to an older/different rom once you install Mr Clean rom? I currently have a K-jam running the lattest rom, and was thinking about trying Mr Clean rom just to see how it behaves. The only think stopping me is what if I don't like it! Would it be possible to revert back to my current rom?
Can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. As far as I know none of the home cooked ROMs available on the forum have a function that does a compare between the existing and intended ROM versions and prevents any downgrading.
As to whether you will like the newer version, it is hard to see why you wouldn't. Mr Clean's version is spot on if you want the latest OS, the best Radio ROM and a very light extended ROM and with you changing your splash screen to one you like you should be sorted. All you need is to install whatever cab files you need for performance tweaks or network settings.

Well it doesn't! :S Once you use Mr Clean rom you can not go back to the official Kjam rom! My only problem with the Mr Clean rom is that there is somewhat increased consumption compared to the rom I had before! Oh well! I guess I'll just have to get used to it!

Why can't you go back? I've run every ROM sumitter has released. Over the weekend I installed the Mr. Clean ROM . Put on the PDA Mobiz version yesterday. I just went back to the original Cingular 1.08 successfully this morning to double-check this response. IPL, SPL, GSM and OS reflecting changes each time. Now I'm going "back" to sumitter's test2. If you unlocked you SID/sim initially you shouldn't have any problems regarding this. faria documented the procedure back in April.
(yes I love flashing my phone)
I can't believe that the Kjam is that different.....

First you need to download and install Button's 1.05 at ftp://xda:[email protected]__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe . Make sure to allow the extended ROM's to execute. All problems solved as Pinhead said.

Hey all,
First please let me say I am not looking for anyone to tell me what is the BEST cooked rom out there. I know each one has specific plusses and minuses that are suited to particular purposes.
Also, I have looked through this forum. I have read most of the WIKI, and spent an hour reading through various posts. However, I haven't found a concise discussion of this as many people are focusing on cooked ROMs.
I am getting a Tilt and from my reading so far I am pretty sure I want to reflash it with an HTC Rom. I want the TouchFlo and some of the other stuff that the HTC offers. I have some general questions though:
1) Is there a downside to putting HTC Rom on a Tilt? I know there are some little issues that have solutions (like keyboard remap) but will I experience any instability or call/data quality issues running HTC over ATT ROM?
2) Relating to #1...can/should I just keep the ATT ROM and can I then add everything from the HTC ROM (from cabs?). I don't know which solution yields the best stability.
3) Is there a reason why I would go with a 6.0 ROM instead of 6.1 ROM? I would like to believe that the 6.1 is the newer, better stuff...but maybe not?
4) What is the latest 6.1 official ROM? Is it RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship?
5) When it comes to "official" shipped ROMs and Radio firmware from ATT and HTC, is there any good reason not to use the latest versions? That is are any of the new versions a step backwards in terms of stability/performance?
I do not want to use any cooked firmware (at least initially). I would like to start with a vanilla shipped firmware and then add/remove things myself. If this comes down to me cooking my own ROM so be it, but I would like to start with the basic.
My goal is to have a ROM that will be fast and stable, with as few lock-ups or resets as possible.
Thanks for your assistance.
1)i dont believe so it depends on the radio i believe
2)i think u should flash cuz it'll remove all the atnt junk..bloatware n such
3)it all depends on personal pref...i did cuz i wanted the threaded sms function
4)i dont know.sorry
5)i think they're all pretty much the same..just gotta test the differnt versions to find out
most of the cooked roms i tried arent as bad...not many lockups or resets
i'm still a noob at flashing tho so still trying things out
Hi!
After installing the HTC Toupad on my Kaiser, I have experienced big problems. Letters on the Keyboard (QWASYX) didn't work and even the onscreen keyboard didn't recognized these letters. So I decided to uninstall the application. But now I have other problems with my Kaiser and so I decided to Hardreset my device. But before I do this, I want to upgrade my Kaiser to WM6.1 and update it to the newest ROM/Radio.
Now I have some questions relating to that.
As a result that I am a Super Moderator in another forum I know that it is bugging if people don't read the Wiki/FAQs. I have read them, but I don't understand many things :-|
I have handled it to unlock my device, but when I was reading about updating to WM6.1, I saw only things like: "... works only with 6.1", update this, update that, and I don't know in which order.
First of all: Could anyone explain me how to update my Kaiser to WM6.1 and the newest Radio?
Secondly: What is this Duty FW? Is it a modified Rom with added apps?
Finally: I have a normal Kaiser. Not a Vario III, AT&T or something like that. Just the austrian version of the Kaiser with no brandings and so it would be good to have a Firmware without any brandings.
Thx in advance.
BTW:
ROM version: 1.56.405.5
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Oh, I have forgotten one thing: Is it possible to change the LED blinking in the Phone Mode? To change it from green to blue?
The letter problem you were having was a simple fix with a cab that can be found all across this forum. All the ROM's can be found in the ROM Development forum and as far as what has been changed, modified, added, programs list, can all be found in the FIRST or SECOND post of each of the ROM's. So you will just have to read through them and find one that suits you best as they all have something different. Most of the radio's that can only be used on 6.1 ROM's will say "Will only work on 6.1 ROM's". And I would like to add even though you don't have at&t DON'T FLASH THE 1.65.17.10 RADIO.

You need to make sure before you flash a rom on to your kaiser that you flash hardspl - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679, and than after successfully installing that you can flash the rom of your choice. Please read the first sticky thread under the kiaser rom development form - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282; it has all the info you need pretaining to everything involved when it comes to flashing your kaiser. I strongly recommend you go through it and read the posts it points to that are relevant to flashing.
Once you have done that it is pretty simple process; just do yourself the huge favor and don't flash until you have flashed hardspl or you will brick your phone.
If its still a mystery I would start here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
No pun intended.
@thesire
I have already installed HardSPL. Otherwise I couldn't have unlocked my device with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039
I have used just the Sim Unlocker Method. Not the Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer
That's the reason, why my mobile phone is now with an english language
Just one important question: Do I have to change my current radio for the new Duty Release?
@KDKobes
Why shouldn't I flash THE 1.65.17.10 RADIO?
Some ROM's come with radio's some don't. Most of Dutty's ROM's come with radio's, but if you want to keep your radio then I would suggest finding a ROM without a radio in it or making sure yours is compatible with the WM 6.1 and reflash it back. The 1.65.17.10 radio will lock your phone to that radio only and you will not be able to change it until somebody can fix it. Alot of people are stuck with that radio now and can't change.
Ok, some of you may remember me from the Wizard world. I am the chef for the "Jag" series and "NTS" of roms there. They are old roms I know, but then i decided to be stupid and went to the SP world with a Moto Q9h, 6 months in, I miss my touch screen. I have an AT&T Tilt on the way now. So, to the main point of this post.
Where do I start with unlocking the Tilt, and also, Since I am on AT&T what is the deal with the radios. I know I want to use a non standard ROM on this phone since bloat ware pisses me off.
How do i determine what radio with what rom and so on?
Thanks for your help. I have tried to search the forum for answers but I am totally lost here. Guess I need to leave behind the world of the Wizard and one radio for all roms. LOL.
I missed you guys!!!!
Re the unblocking I think that id the CID Unlock guff you have to run (don't quote me, my phone was already unlocked)
Then read the pages on flash tutorial which turns out to be easy to do and then pick a ROM to flash and away you go
Wow 738 posts and you don't know how to read stickys.
Check the links in my sig (and just about anyone elses) or the sticky in just about every forum for the kaiser.
welcome back.
Ok, So just to test my understanding, I need to check each ROM release and see which HardSPL they used to make the ROM.
Example:
The Garmin.DK.1 WM 6.1 Premium ROM states the instructions are to install HardSPL 3.56. I have read how to do this and it seems pretty self explanitory in the instructions. After that, then I flash the rom, once the rom is complete, I do a hard reset on the phone.
Am I correct in those steps?
Now, my next question.
I have read here in the wiki that I need to ensure that I am using the correct Radio for my phone. Confused here a little bit.
Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 has this little disclaimer on the second post,
There will be 3 roms compatable with the latest AT&T Radios 1.65.14.06 and Radio 1.65.17.10

Does this mean I have to hunt down a specific version of the radio in order to use this ROM?
Thanks again for the help.
738 posts does not mean I should know how to read a sticky. Most of the stickys on the Wizard forum werent stickys when I read them....
And I have worked with alot of the authors of those stickys too.
There are a few things you want to do:
First, install a hardspl I would recommend 3.28, 3.29, or 3.56
Second, security unlock your device
Third, Flash a Rom. A majority of the rom's here come with radio's. The best radio's available right now are 1.65.20.29 (great with getting a quick gps fix and fairly stable) 1.58.25.17 (which is compatible with almost every cooked rom here which offers great battery life and fairly stable reception at least in my area) or the newest available radio which is in my signature (offers decent gps fix, great reception and a decent battery life.
It is easier to learn as you go rather than attempt to cram it in all at once.
Good luck
Thank you red.
I just dont want to brick my tilt first attempt. I guess what im looking for is a quick rom, very stable and has no bloatware.
I think iwill work on the device with standard rom first so that I can learn the device itself. Then i will start reading rom release posts...... every page.
I like to have all info before i take the first step. expecially on something this expensive.
Hi, been looking through the various sections of ROM development forum, and have a couple of questions. I am new to this Windows based phones.
1) When I dump the ROM, does this Backup the ROM, radio and Protocol, or do you have to do them individually? Basically can I put the MDA Compact V back into its complete original state if I dont like the new ROMS?
2) Has anyone tried Flashing the Compact V, if so, any improvements?
Hoping some of you experts can help out a noob!
2) You need HARDSPL installed. Then you can flash any topaz rom on it. Trust me, you don't want to go back to the t-mobile rom.
Let us know how you get on, i'm thinking of doing the same thing
I dumped my rom from the mda compact v but I havent put it back together as nbh yet. Downloading the topaz kitchen to do so.
It is always a good idea to dump your rom before flashing a new one. If your phone develops a fault t-mobile will not accept responsibility if there is a custom rom on there and they will likely tell you that your warranty has been invalidated. Although the t-mobile rom is awful is always good to have it backup up just in case of the worst.
Saying that I didnt backup the radio though and I updated that to the latest last week
EDIT: To answer the question yes there are improvements with running custom roms. I have not moved to 6.5 yet as I have a heavily customised uDK 6.1 rom and cannot be bothered to move to 6.5 and do all the customisations again. There 6.5 rom appear to be slightly buggier from what I read but it does have its advantages over 6.1.
Backup the t-mobile rom and move to the custom roms just make sure you follow the instructions carefully
Thanks for the replys.
Pauloke: I have backed up the ROM (parts.raw) and I have also got the kitchen, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. Worst case, I have a copy anyway. The kitchen instructions get quite techy very quickly and they soon lose me. Is there any way of getting a copy of the shipped ROM online?
Cheers

One way is to check the website of your provider. Sometimes you find the ROM (as an update) there.
Another way is to check the WIKI TOPAZ cooked ROMs page. By chance you find your ROM there.
Ohh man i must be rly stupid, why i cant figure out how the @#% i can dump my rom :S This dumprom tool is supposed to extract an already backed up rom right? i'm really confused :/
