soft or hard boot causes factory default reset - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

help help... i've tried multiple roms, currently using TPC 23053, but this is not a rom related problem perhaps... noodling around setting up my email push and contact sync etc.. invariably my att tilt kaiser becomes rediculously slow, won't show anything interesting on the task menu (if I can even load the task app) forcing me to soft boot or hard boot (tried both.) upon rebooting, it restarts windows with factory defaults -- i have to go through the stylus set up and connections - then it hangs on reboot. same problem with every rom i've tried today and yesterday - tried changing battery, same problem. help.
seems to be slightly more complex. only causes the 'reset' when the system becomes so sluggish that i have to reboot it. a normal reset just after a normal restart reboots normally. this is however predictible behavior with the phone. any ideas? hardware/software issues?
checking to see if my rather large (16gig) storage card has any bearing on the issue by (grudgingly) removing it for a bit to see if it starts to slow down again. - will notify upon any results later today.
definitely not the storage card. had a required soft reboot after making an adjustment and it did it again, losing all of my settings, and hanging, essentially forcing me to do a hard reboot and resetting to factory defaults to clean out whatever garbage it created. (no storage card at all installed.)
I'm at my wits end, thinking extreme thoughts like replacing with a fuze or something. should I try reverting to the old wm3? i upgraded because it too had problems - occasionally erasing my storage card ugh...
hate to be flamed on my first post, glad to see i'm not the only one with the issue, however, it is in very small print and says it is strongly recommended that you flash the ATT/HTC stock rom first, then flash the wm6.5 and that this is a common and known issue with all 6.5 roms... not sure why that isn't made more clear, but I will try it now and see if it solves the problem.
using radio 1.65.21.18
rom [9-20-09]NEW Titanium Ultimate 23053||TPCElite series V11 MEGA Edition wm6.5 23017
wm6.5.1
g: 25.88.40.05H
d: 3.TPCElite
note: upon installation - after touch screen setup - and automatic reset there is an error memstatus.exe missing...quick flash hard to read, but then continues to the sim card import and connections setup wizard.
Please be aware, this rom says you do NOT have to install the factory rom first, i'm trying it anyway...this is a final attempt to keep it from resetting itself and hanging upon reboot - soft or hard.
FYI Installing factory ROM first seems to solve the problem. yay.

Having same problem, multiple ROMs
I have tried TPC Elite, Shifu and a couple of stripped ROMs.
No change, seems fine after first reboot after flash but upon next reboot tilt does a factory reset and starts the install process over.
Multiple messages of files not found at start up. Random files and some of the file names are bizarre special characters.
Will try s STOCK AT&T ROM, but have tried already/

Tilt keeps freezing on green windows moblile screen

My phone keeps freezing on this green windows mobile screen, and no matter how many times i reset nothing happens. I have to do a hard reset in order to get the phone working again. It happens often whenever i turn the phone off and on or change out the battery. Any idea? I am running the stock ATT rom, without the added junk (after i do i reset and it starts installing the extra apps i soft reset the phone). I installed the stock kaiser htc home plug in and thats about it.
i thinks its time for a new rom.
to keep it simple and basic =

this happened to me just two days ago. phone froze up and wouldnt start. i had to do a hard reset.
hold both softkeys and use the stylus to reset the phone. (hole at the bottom of phone).
this will do a hard reset.
it sucks that you dont have a sprit back up of all your data. i have several checkpoints of my data. i suggest you do the same if you do decide to hard reset.

I do have backups, and it continues to happen. I finally just reinstalled all my apps today without restoring a backup to see if it helps but I doubt it.
Do you have HardSPL or have you changed your radio? Anything like that? Have you previously flashed other roms?
nope stock and stock. I did first notice this when I tried to use the kaiser tweak utility. but i have since never installed it
Did you upgrade from the original 1.57 at&t Rom to the recently released 1.62 at&t Rom?
If so are your restoring a backup from the 1.57 Rom onto the 1.62 Rom. That is a no-no....
Remove your SD card and do a soft reboot. If it still hangs, then it is a ROM issue. If it boots OK then there is a program on your SD card that the device is having problems with, in either linking to or opening.
Copy all the SD card files and programs on your PC. Format the SD card. Start installing the programs one at a time and see which program is the culprit. Remove it and all those that add to the problem.
If you were happy with the original ROM, then do not change to another.

Hey Kyphur.. good to see you here.. What else can you do to avoid keeping remnants of the previous ROM? How can you avoid restoring a back-up?.

That's a loaded question. Personally I have the cab files for all of my programs on my storage card. I've consolidated some useful programs into a single cab and modified most cabs to install into a cleaner start menu structure.
Then I use KaiserTweak to set the few remaining Reg settings that I don't have already set in my cooked Rom.
My today plugins (PocketBreeze, PocketWeather & iLauncher) all have import/export functions so I use that so I don't have to reconfigure them every time.
Finally I have an Exchange Server account for my contacts and e-mails.

Kaiser sleep function does strange things... (FIXED)

After I did a hard reset, a strange problem appeared.
When I press the power button to put the device in sleep, it does, but after 4-5 seconds it automaticly switches back on.
I tried several things such as soft resetting the device, close all running programs and even another hard reset, but it won't work. I didn't install any programs so far...
More information about my ROM version etc.

i see you have already tried the following but i'm going to write down how i would go about debugging the problem anyway. first, i would try the following steps in the following order to ensure it is not a software issue (it seems you have already eliminated the possibility that this is a software issue):
0. ensure you are using the correct hard SPL for your ROM. if you have never flashed a custom ROM and if you are using the ROM that came with your phone factory installed, you need not worry about this step or step 2 onwards
1. hard reset your phone and check the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software...you have already done this
2. it is recommended to re-download the ROM image and re-flash it to minimize the possibility of a corrupted download or a bad flash
3. it is also recommended to hard reset your phone immediately after flashing the ROM at the point where it says "tap here to begin", i.e. before the screen alignment wizard
4. once again, test the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software
now lets assume it is a hardware issue...here is a nugget of information that might help you. i remember reading a thread here started by a person who described a problem very similar to yours. it involved a "stuck" camera button. you see, the camera button is TWO-stage...and if the half-press stage is "stuck", your phone will never go to sleep properly. search for this thread for more information.
finally, if this is indeed a hardware issue, it seems strange that it appeared only after you did that very first hard reset...but life is full of coincidences !
good luck!
thanks for your suggestions, I will try them and post results.
no success
I tried the things you suggested, but it doesn't work. I also tried the power button when it says "tap your device..." but the device woke up after 4-5 seconds also.
I checked my buttons (especially the camera button, but that one seems to be well... I can feel the two "clicks" and I can take a picture in a normal way)
I'm thinking it might be a ROM problem or something like that... (but my problem is, if I want to go back to the previous official HTC ROM, the 6.0 one, I probably have to use HardSPL, but I don't like that much because of warranty...)
Ok other question... Can I install the Dutch Vodafone ROM on a non-branded HTC device, or could I get VendorID errors or something similar if I want to keep the original SPL?
fixed!
Ok, I fixed it after installing HardSPL 3.29 and flashing the latest WWE ROM...
Now my power button works perfectly!

Weird Problems & Diamond almost dead (software/ROM)

Some days ago, i've flashed my phone to get an "up-to-date" ROM. I chose "PDACornerIllusion 21139" of 2009.03.06. All went fine excepting the keyboard of my GPS wont work anymore (dunno why of course), so i re-flashed with another ROM.
I was surprised that my phone kept the CornerIllusion BootScreen, but i didnt care.
All of a sudden, after having soft reset the ROM i chose (the 2nd one), for an installation of some proggie. The ROM restart as brand new asking me to reset the screen, the clock, date etc... losing all my content and customizations. Then i couldnt sync with Outlook after the first sync i've done minutes ago (error code 800004005). I've decided to soft-reset the phone, and now, TF3D wont even start, (it selft tries to start several times, then gives up), AND the programs lists is all broken, no shortcuts left and the games folder is named *h1/4Eg+รง^, nothing works anymore.
I flashed with about 4 roms (including Aztor one), resulting in the same mess.
Does it have something to do with the first one "PDACornerIllusion 21139" and its still remaining BootScreen?
Can i flash my phone from its roots, to get rid of this ?
As it's maybe not the "fault" of PDACornerIllusion, i write this in this section of the Diamond general thread and made a double post at PDACornerIllusion development thread
I suggest you perform a hard reset before flashing any new rom and that you use the traditional "flash-from-PC-using-ActiveSync-connection" method to flash.
And above all I wish you luck!
What was the other ROM you flashed? I am curious.
rondol1 suggests you hard reset prior to flashing a new rom. I suggest you hard reset after flashing a new rom. Net result is probaby much the same. You could even just do a hard reset now with whatever is loaded and things will probably improve. Main thing is...whenever you flash a rom do a hard reset straight after loading it. I always do this religiously and with the exception of one recent rom I tried I have never had a problem.
First of all, thank you both for trying to suggest hints, i really appreciate it.
I've never hard reset the ROM before or after having installed a new one. I never have a problem before.
For the last 2 months, i was on NEON 1.28, then i've decided it was time to update seeing the new features of the more up-to-date ROMs
I've just reflashed it (an hour ago) with PDACornerIllusion 21139, i've hard reseted before and after. let's see how it turns out ....
I've tried NATALY, CLOUDY, MORNA & AZTOR, no luck with any of them, all died after a soft reset or after the 1st sync (reconnecting for a 2nd sync).
Maybe the problem comes from the very root of the phone (like BIOS in a PC, dunno), maybe something in there got corrupted. How to repair it if my guess exists and is it repairable?

There in lies the problem.
I bet you will be fine from now on. Don't ask why you need to do the hard reset - as no one has been able to give a definitive answer - But it is a well known step that many chefs recommend post flash - just do it from now on and you wont regret it.

completely agree with logger - hard reset after you flash any ROM. I haven't used PDACorner - so can't say for sure... but do the flash via CustomRUU once... when the new ROM is flashed... do a hard reset as soon as it's complete..
good luck!
let's see then, >>>>crossing fingers<<<<
I've had this happen a lot lately as well. Might have something to do with the newer SYS? Anyway, hard reseting hasn't always fixed it for me. However, flashing back to the Sprint stock ROM (or HTC stock for you GSM guys) then flashing a new custom ROM has always done the trick. Maybe because the stock ROMs are bigger and "clean" out the memory somehow? At any rate, flash stock and then you're good to go. No permanent damage.
no luck, after a 2nd soft-reset, the phone is asking "touch the screen to configure for the 1sy use blablabla", all data's lost again & again...
what do you mean by stock Rom ? the rom that came with my phone when i've bought it ?
I've got the same problem with the Diamond rebooting like a hard-reset. But I always did a hard-reset after a fresh install. I blamed it on the rom and tried several others, including donsalari's "Clean Basic Rom", the Gen.Y Sense 2.1 and 2.5 versions and an older Aztor rom. Same problem every time, the first reboot after changing the device locale works fine, then I set the whole phone up properly and on the next reboot it will come up as if had performed a hard reset.
Additionally, the file system on my internal storage got corrupted somehow, had to reformat. At some point, I also had the impression that data on the phone memory got lost gradually. First the Contact's numbers got replaced by some nonsense characters, then there were numbers and contacts missing, and finally I had no contacts at all. ActiveSync stopped working so I was in the middle of a trip without my phonebook...
I've got two hypotheses:
1) The Gen.Y bootloader messed with the phone (Had tried the Sense 2.5 Gen.Y rom before donsalari's)
2) Flash controller or Flash itself is broken
@dunnno: I suggest you rename the thread to something like "diamond hard-resets on 2nd reboot after rom install"
edit: oops, just realised I resurrected a very old thread... Maybe there's a fix already?
My diamond still suffers from this problem. I tried it again and again with different roms but everytime, at some point all my configuration is lost and the diamond reboots like after a fresh install. Can anyone please help?
I'm having this problem as well :|
Grr, I have to rely on my phone for so much, but it just doesn't want to work correctly.
Help is immensely appreciated.
Well, I got mine to work, I just flashed the stock HTC ROM and everything has gone back to normal. H3PO, I suggest you give that a shot if you are still having problems.
I had these problems when I first started flashing my Diamond with custom roms.
Now I always flash my carrier stock rom first, then hard reset, then flash custom rom, then hard reset and I never have any problems. I have no idea why flashing the stock rom first stops the problems but I haven't had any problems with the dozens of roms I've flashed using this method.
Also I always flash from internal storage, but others prefer using MTTY
I still have some problems with the Contact Database, but flashing some stock O2 Rom solved the "reboot as new" problem.

ROM Problem

Hi all,
i have a Problem, i have insalled a few roms, and with every ROM i got the same errors.
i Cant install CABs - always installations faild
when i disable some Tabs @TF then touchflow hang up, i have to reboot - then it freezed to, then i have to clear intern memory and cutomize it again ...
When i try it again, the same ****. I have treid 3 ROMs, always the same ****.
Has anyone a Hint for me?
Mmmm...
Isn't that the definition of insanity... repeating the same things, expecting a different result?
There are two things you can do here. The first one works for me every time I get crazy, random behaviour from a ROM. The second, I have never needed, but apparently it works wonders. I am, of course, assuming that you hard reset your device after flashing ROM's??!!
1. Flash a stock ROM from HTC, hard reset, then flash a custom ROM of your choice, then hard reset again. This will solve a million issues and then some.
2. Search XDA for MTTY. Don't ask me what it does, or how it does it, but it also cures a load of issues like yours.

HTC Diamond Hangs/Freezes in boot screen after completing customization/after restart

Hello,
I installed a cooked ROM a week ago. After a day or two I switched the phone off and when I switched it on it froze on the Touch Diamond boot screen indicating the versions.
I did a hard reset. It worked fine but after installing some ROM fixes (provided in the ROM thread) after rebooting it got stuck again.
Finally, I attempted to install a new rom, everything went fine until rebooting from the customization screen that resulted to the same problem..
Is my device problematic?
PS: Before installing the new ROM i had another cooked rom installed that worked perfectly.
I removed the SIM card, managed to boot the phone and I got an error "@[]@[]M[]@ cannot be opened . Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found." ([] = unprintable character)
I have the same problem, only with my htc hd2.
Was running a slightly modified close to stock rom wwe, without problem (except the occasional freeze every other day) however, after attempting to install another room with cookie's homepage customizer, my phone keept freezing after about 5 min after the customization screen.
I thought this had something to do with the apps I installed just after the rom installation process. However, after some testing the same problem occur regardless if I install just the rom.
Have also tried upgrading to another newer version rom & radio yet I encounter the same issue all the time; The screen will freeze and otherwise become non - responsive after a restart the phone may not start ( freezing on windows orange screen), or it will start the customization process anew, somehow resetting all settings and stored content. .
Is my phone messed up for good? What are my options, please help!
Cheers,
Nate.
