G1 Won't Pass Boot Up Screen - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My G1 will not go past the boot screen, I tried to change the theme by adding a update.zip file to the sd card and now the phone will not boot up. It gets stuck at the G1 screen. The phone was rooted; however, for some reason that no longer comes up when I hold the HOME and END buttons. I tried uploading RC29 - RC33 to try and fix the problem and got this message:
assert getprop("ro.build.fingerprint")== "tmobile/kila/dream/trout:1.0/TC4-RC29/115247:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys" || getprop(ro.build.fingerprint") == "tmobile/kila/dream/trout:1.0/TC4-RC28/114235:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keysInstallation aborted.
I've been searching google all day and haven't found the solution yet! Please help.

"The phone was rooted; however, for some reason that no longer comes up when I hold the HOME and END buttons."
By 'that' do you mean the recovery console? Did you flash cyan's 1.4 recovery? Can you enter bootloader/fastboot? What rom did you have? What theme did you flash?

Yes, the recovery console doesn't show up the way it would if the phone were rooted, it comes up the unrooted way. I did flash cyan's 1.4 recovery though, so I'm confused to why this is happening. I don't know what bootloader/fastboot is, but if that's whats supposed to come up after holding the camera and end button then I don't think I have it. A colorful striped screen shows up. I had Cupcake 1.5 installed and I was trying to add a theme from theunlockr. com called Hero Theme by Tehseano & Moonsspoon. I hope that helped..

Possibly the theme you tried to install didn't go with the rom you have. But some background information will help to fix your problem.

What background information do you need?

Just like the second poster said. What rom were you on? What theme did you try to flash, and what was it compatible with? I know you said you tried to reflash RC29, did that ever work?

Sorry, I'm new to this Android stuff. I don't know what ROM I was on, all I know is that I had Cupcake 1.5 installed. There had been no previous themes applied beforehand.
I tried to install this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520629
The flashing was unsuccessful.
The only other information I have is:
1.) Model Number - T-Mobile G1
2.) Firmware Version - 1.5
3.) Baseband Version - 62.50s.20.17H_2.22.19.261
4.) Kernel Version - 2.6.27-00393-g6607056 [email protected] #1
5.) Build Number - CRC 1

Any ideas???

So you had JF rom with a theme then tried to install what theme? You may have to reflash a stock DREAIMG.nbh and start from scratch.
But you really need to provide more information.

How would I reflash it? What other information would be helpful, I'm sorry I'm trying to give all of the info that I can, but I don't know what else you need to know. Please email me at [email protected] if possible. Thank you.

Prolly your best bet is to start from scratch. Reflash RC29 and continue from there. But this time make sure you know whats on your phone and what your flashing.

I got HTC Tattoo. Same thing!!! Dunno what to do.

firmware version 1.6
baseband version 62.50s.20.17h_2.22.19.26i
kernel version 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37

build number dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 drc83 14721 test-keys
someone please help me
i dont kno if you can downgrade from 1.6 but im sure u should be able to i have not seen any posts saying u cant so
Ok we need to kno a few things
Make sure your new phone has the right Board before you do nething to do that
turn off your phone
hold the Camera button(on the right side of your Dream/G1) and also hold the Power button(the red phone button)
make sure you have a PVT then im sure you should be ok
to exit this press all these buttons at the same time
The Green Phone+Menu Button+Power Button(Red phone button)
then go to this post and follow the directions to the T!!!!! and you should be ok to run Cyanogen it takes more to run Hero but just follow the guide if your phone has the correct stuff
(ONLY IF ONLY EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT HERE AFTER YOU CONFIRM YOU HAVE THE RIGHT STUFF IN YOUR PHONE you man continue cause were not responsible if you mess up your phone YOU ARE)
Required Materials:
G1 / Dream
Micro SD card reader (phone will work in MOST cases)
Computer with Internet connection
USB cable for phone
Data Plan
^^^^^^^^^^
Fingerlickin's guides Requirements
and if everything checks out again go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563679
and follow it to the T and you should be fine
and also
i might be forgetting something but just put that info in the post for now im sure myself and others will see what u can do at the moment
thanks
thank you so much. that helped me out a ton.
no problem
just fyi ran, you can still root your phone if you have a dvt board
however, you cannot flash the haykuro spl
also 1.6 is rootable still
ahh thx i guess im just reading from way back thats how i learned it works that way so no love lost still rite in a way
but yea thx for the info noted
ok so heres my new problem. im stuck on the G1. (i tried to flash a theme) if i put all the cyanogen files on my sdcard can i some how re-do it that way?
im guessing u gave up on hero? i dont kno
but what your asking is how to install a theme on cyanogen im guess so
you need to wait like 10 or 15 for it to install if you didnt wait patiently
if that dont work wipe and reflash let it load up the first time then turn it off and go bak to recovery and flash the theme make sure it for your rom also or else most of the time it wont work
another thing to keep in mind when you are looking for a decent theme, use the nandroid backup feature in your recovery. I change themes like I change underwear. I always backup, flash theme or test if I am building my own. If it works I keep it, if not, I restore backup and try again. Restoring a backup seems to take less time to reboot than reflashing the rom. (at least it seems that way to me)

plz help - Rom install - Failure at line.. Install aborted

I rooted my G1 last night and have yet been able to load a Rom on it.
my radio is 2.22.19261
and I do not know how to check what my spl is. also when I try to install the newest spl to make sure I have it Im not sure how to install it since when I boot up pressing home and power it goes to RA-dream-v1.5.2. not sure how to do the update from here.
The 3 Roms I have tried so far are:
-FastTest2.4.1
-SuperD193-blk-WGKv3beta
-MLIGN-HeroV3.3
fasttest and superD get failure at line 59
MLIGN-Hero gets failure at line 80
So is there something I'm missing somewhere and if its the spl can someone point me in the right direction to update it??
Im still researching, but a lil help would be apprieciated and amazing
It shows the SPL version in your first screenshot. The SPL you need to load the roms you listed is in my signature.
You should be able to flash the SPL without problems because you meet the radio requirement already.
thanks.. I was just logging in to say I already got it figured out..
I thought I still had to rename the spl as update and then get the phone to boot to it wick i couldnt figure out how to do after I rooted it.
I booting it to recovery and then choose to Flash zip from sdcard.. choosing the spl I loaded on the sdcard
Works great now.. im testing out FastTest2.4.1 right now
Thanks again

I'm going to be nice this time but next time make sure you read on how to root your phone and install either HardSPL or EngSPL. Do not flash Haykuro's/Death/Danger because you'll likely brick your phone (since your first post has such an obvious answer)

Please Please someone help me! tmobile uk g1

Hi all,
I’m in desperate need of some of your wealth of experience, i have managed to root and flash my g1 with - rc9 JFv1.51_CRB43-EU.zip (Jesus freke), and recovery-RA-dream-v1.6.2.img recovery image!. Now i want to update to a newer rom!
Now for the problem, the recovery program allows me to flash many of the rom's available but none of them work after the flash completes it just loads the g1 screen and stops there i have left it on that screen for about 10 min’s and nothing at all happens, but then it will allow me to flash back to rc9 JFv1.51_CRB43-EU.zip absolutely fine no issues every time?. Do i need to install anything else before updating to Open Eclare 2.1.1 or SuperD1103-blk.? I’m in the UK with a UK g1 mobile if that makes a difference?

Just use the top three wipes available in Anon's recovery menu: Wipe System/Data (1st), Davilk Cache (2nd), Ext Partition (3rd). If you haven't partitioned your SD card into FAT32, Ext2, 3, or 4 and Linux-Swap, do so now with the Recovery menu. You must backup your fat32 first, because a total repartition will totally blank your data. Good luck!

Make sure you partition your sd card and then try like the above said....or maybe try flashing death spl.

This is YOUR FAULT for NOT READING!!!!
You installed an SPL meant for an HTC MAGIC onto your HTC DREAM. It *CAN* be made to work, HOWEVER, you failed to read and understand what is required to actually do it safely.
SPECIFICALLY, you are stuck in boot mode 3 -- boot to recovery, and because you changed the SPL, your recovery partition is UNABLE TO BOOT.
You are BRICKED, and the only way out is to use a hardware interface called "JTAG", which requires you to disassemble the phone.
SPECIFICALLY:
You missed the part of that thread that says "MOD EDIT PLEASE READ THIS THREAD FOR UP TO DATE INFORMATION".
I have no sympathy for you. That instruction is in big purple letters.
hi thanks for your info, do you know anyone or anywhere i can get my phone jtagged?
How could you mess it up with step by step instructions....lol...I am being dead serious....it doesn't get more clear than this.
IMPORTANT: Before going any further make sure that you have PVT board. You can do this by rebooting your phone and holding the camera button. The first line should say "PVT" if you see "DVT" then DO NOT flash this because odds are you will get a brick but If it says "PVT" then you are good to go.
First you are going to need to download the latest radio and the SPL. both can be found here http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/ There is also a new radio that is compatible that can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640535
Prior to starting the installation process please make sure that your battery has a good charge. Also DO NOT pull your battery out at anytime during the installation process. I know it seems like common sense but I read a thread where someone had pulled their battery in the middle of the installation process and they ended up with a brick.
Now that all that's out of the way lets get started!
1. Copy "ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip" or "G1-radio-2_22_23_02.zip" and "spl-signed.zip" onto the root of your SD card.
2. Reboot into recovery. I suggest using the RA-dream recovery you can download it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
3. Wipe your phone "factory data reset" (this step isnt really necessary since your phone is wiped after flashing the SPL but I always like to wipe before flashing anything)
DO NOT SKIP THIS NEXT STEP OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE
You must have the latest radio "2_22_19_26I" or "2_22_23_02" to flash this SPL if you already have the latest radio you should not have to flash it again but it will not hurt if you do flash it again. When in doubt flash it anyway.
4. Flash the Radio "ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip" or "G1-radio-2_22_23_02.zip" it will install and then it will ask you to reboot to finish the installation, so reboot, it will then finish installing and then reboot back into recovery.
5. Flash the SPL "spl-signed.zip" it will install and then ask you to reboot to finish the installation, so reboot, it will then finish installing and reboot into recovery so you can flash your ROM
i cant get in to fast boot or recovery i just get the g1 screen, if i press camera and power or if i press home and power i just get the g1 nothing else

Did you follow those steps when flashing the SPL? Did you even flash the radio before flashing the SPL?
It sounds like you have no idea what you did to your phone which is never a good sign (and usually means you shouldn't even be flashing custom radios/spl's/roms)
no i did not, i was asking for help for the last 2 or 3 days? i did what i thought was right but it was not. can i fix it or not?

Sigh....I would go buy another phone off Craigslist or something similar.
Next time...please read before flashing....Although I'm sure you will after the last mishap.
the only way to fix your phone is to buy a doner phone with a broken screen or something cheap off of ebay
there is NO KNOWN WAY to fix it without a doner (the jtag method isnt do-able yet)
I know here in town...there are so many G1's up for sale around the $150 mark in really really nice condition.
That's where I'd be looking if I bricked my G1. Well...I'd be replacing it with a HD2 probably...lol

as far as i can see the jtag is still in testing?
This noob is in the UK anyways. Let him figure it out.
Wrong section, soft bricked his own phone and freaking out.
Please READ. You are from the UK so your English isn't bad. You have no excuse for not following instructions.
Ways to fix your phone:
1) motherboard replacement
2) JTAG (experts are not anywhere near you though)
3) buy a new phone
Mods please get this out of here

my brick ?

no adb and no fastboot on pc
i can go into recovery but when phone boots it goes straight to tri color screen a.k.a bootloader with serial0
i tried downgrading it shows down grade on bootloader but not booting to rom what am i not doing
any suggestions
mods close thread solved by reflashing org.spl
ok it happen again and this time flashing stock spl is not working any help any one
Well it's very probable that by flashing your stock spl that youre now running a perfected spl which won't let you get any further, If you do manage to get back into the rom adb erase and flash a new recovery and spl because it sounds as if your recovery is fried. If you want help from others it would be a good idea to include rom, spl, radio, recovery that you're running so we can better assist you. every combination is different and often it's something as simple as a radio/rom mismatch or an overclocking issue
ok im at complete stock everything
rooted or unrooted?
one second thought.. try downgrading and re-rooting your phone via old school rc29 rom versions..
something has obviously gone awry. lets see if flashing an older rom will get you into the phone and then you can flash a new recovery, spl and radio from there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480&page=35
Sometimes you just gotta redo everything because of software mismatches and extra crap in your phone that isn't supposed to be there.
i had bought the phone like that stuck on bootloader i fixed it after i tried to flash the org. spl it didnt flash but after reset it booted fine after rooting and using the danger spl and cannon complete eclair my carmera went bugging so i decide to downgrade and reroot i flashed the rc29 but it went back to the first problem again
all eclair roms have problems with cameras.. but this sounds more like there's just something not right.. could be anything from your radio to your recovery.. Full wipe and restart the process I no longer have a g1 but im pretty sure if i downgraded from 2.1 to rc29 my phone would act screwy too.

set up sdk/adb and see if your phone is being found or not with the command
Code:
/cd
cd AndroidSDK/tools/
adb devices
i have adb installed correct its not picking up in adb at all no fastboot of course
I don't know i maybe wrong but think you should start all over again
downgrading to v1.0
although i am not that experience
please wait for someone how know
nothing i try is catching
still needing help
And we still don't know what you have installed..
1) make sure your phone is off: boot into the spl by turning on the phone while holding down camera.. tell us all the text on that screen
2) power off your phone again and enter recovery (power on holding home) if it loads do you see any version info? Or just an icon in the center of the screen.. if it dosent load tell us that
3) can you boot into a system (in your case I assume not but if others are reading) tell us the build number and rom if possible in about phone. If it wont boot tell us that.
4) Last what carrier and country is the phone originally from. (This changes what "stock" is)
With all of this information we can find the correct path to solve any issues.. usually without resorting to jtag.

At this point, I searched around again for 30 minutes or so, and saw the stuck camera button problem and took off the back battery case and performed a restart and still went straight to the SPL with almost no delay. The camera button depresses properly and doesnt seem to be stuck.
After all this, I figured I should just start off fresh, so I flashed the DREAM.nbh for RC29 that is listed everywhere in order to get root. On restart, I held down the camera button, and the white screen comes up to ask if I want to boot image.
I do, and everything goes off without a hitch, I press action key to restart and end up at the SPL screen again, this time, my radio is down to v1.2 instead of v2.2 so I know I changed something. I have done this update twice just to make sure everything is going right but I am still stuck at SPL.
Sorry for the extensive post, but as you can see, I did a bit of trouble shooting before I posted this.
1 did that
2 did that regular recovery
3 can not boot into system on 1.5 cupcake signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
4 tmobile usa
anything i know its not bricked
OK you have rc29 installed. That is the original android with 1x radio. So software wise you are fine. (Ie not bricked)
The problem is you need to enter normal boot and are always entering the spl instead?
My guess is the camera button is stuck..
The real button is surface mounted on the main board what you press is a user friendly piece of plastic on top of that, attatched to the phone's cover.
If you have any warranty get T-Mobile to take a look.. Otherwise you can try opening it and cleaning it out.
i tired that and i actually switched the mother boards and check the buttons and nothing is stuck when i update to rc29 it lets me when i update to cupcake it lets me the text even changes on bootloader but not actual boot

G1 Help!

Ok idk what the hell I was doing to my G1, I think flashing a rom and it ****ed up and now When I try starting the phone, it does the G1 screen then gets to the Andriod screen then just stays at a blank backlit screen. Anybody know wtf to do? D:
I tried flashing the OTA R33 or w/e its called using the Alt + S thing and it says "Installation Aborted" for some reason. Why?
EDIT:
Oh sorry, its not a white blank screen, its a black blank screen
Also, when i try installing a lot of roms using the "apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]" method, it usually says that there's "No Signature" and "Verification Failed"
I just want this phone to work again D:
Are you done with your frustration now? Cool, let calm you down a bit so we can get your problem solved.
Take a deep breath.... 1, 2, 3,...10.
Now that we have you in the calm state. Let get your G1 up and running.
What have do done so far? Did you already downgrade and root your G1?
If you have not downgrade and root your phone yet. Follow the instruction in the link below:
Preparing your Phone to get Root
>> http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Get_Root
Rooting your Phone
>> http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Obtain_Root
Installing SPL >> http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Install_Hard_SPL
(NOTE: At this point instead of installing HardSPL you can use the SPL that's related to your ROM.
Install ROM of your choice >> http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Install_Custom_ROM
EDIT: One more thing, you might need to flash the radio too. Depending on the ROM.
Hope this help.
