idk wha happened but now all of a sudden my e button acts as if its the home key whenever i press it and when i reset it sumtimes go to recovery mode.. any way to fix this

sounds a lot like a hardware problem, though you could try well now if would be e and power to get to recovery then try to wipe and reflash the rom but i doubt it will help. i hope your phone is still under warranty.
that didnt help.. yea its still under warranty. i just got this replacement on friday

try a wipe.. i went to xrom and my home key stoped working till i did a wipe. but the e thing makes me think its problem with the phone.

Having no ROM installed (i.e. via Task29) does not mean the vol key method won't work. It should work - remove battery, replace battery, hold power and vol key together for a few seconds. The only reason it wouldn't is if there was something physically wrong with the key.

yup via task 29, mtty. i think there is a wrong in the volume key coz its not working any more.
is there a way to boot via keyboard or my x1 is dead?

all you have to do is hold the vol DOWN and power until screen comes up

had the same issue mate....and now my x1 is bricked!...couldn't do anything to get it back into tri-colour screen and sent it back to repair...tried to use the usb, mitty and nothing....good luck if you find another method....i hate task29 now i wouldn't try that thing again on my new phone...i did everything correctly and it just completely died on me...

Put image file in root now run Task29 and as soon as the tri colour screen comes remove the usb cable and wait for 2 minutes it will search for serial and will automatically boot from SD image..

What do you get when you just turn on your phone? You can always turn on your phone, if you have a ROM flashed it will boot the ROM. If not or not properly flashed then it will take you to the bootloader....

how could your phone auto loading bootloader without a rom and volume down key press?
is your phone made from E.T ? he can do it auto intelligently

don't know if this is related but i thought i'd post it still.
i had an issue with task29 once i tried it.
usually, i flash roms using activesync since i'm kinda lazy putting back and fort the x1 cover, battery and all that.
after flashing task29, my x1 went dead. what i did, i removed the sd card,
plugged it to my pc and put the kovsimg file of the rom i like best,
plugged back in the sd card with the kovsimg file and re-flash via sd card method (using soft keys & volume button).
viola! it worked! but then again, i guess that's the way it's suppose to be done anyways.

Ever did a bad flash???? Try it....flash from your pc and pull the USB cable. If you reset your phone where does it take you? Certainly not to boot the ROM, because the flash went wrong.

guys come om plz i appreciate all your kind help really am desperate and wish i could get my phone back.
yup my phone has no rom so i couldnt flash any rom coz my volume key is died. NO NEW ROM AND NO BOOTLOADER.
i guess that there is no solution other than i should sent it back to the shop to be repaired but if there is a solution i wont regret to try it on my phone.

Hello! I had this problem a minute ago. Try this:
1 -Turn on the phone. The screen will freeze in Sony Ericsson logo.
2 - After this, hold the two silver front buttons and press the softreset button behind the battery cover (to do a Hard Reset).
3 - Follow the instructions to perform the Hard Reset.
4 - When finished, remove the battery. Wait for 3 seconds and put the battery back.
5 - Now try to hold Vol Down key and turn the phone on.
It worked for me. But OMG, this thing scared me...
my power/screen lock button is stuck i believe, my phone is rooted and i wanted to flash back to stock but i can't enter download mode using the vol up/down method because the power button is stuck i think and it keeps taking me to the recovery/reboot screen. is there another way for me to enter download mode? i tried using the abd method but everytime i type what it says in the command prompt, it says that pathway is not recognized or something. please help me!
if someone can tell me how to do the abd method, it would be greatly appreciated
I have no idea where you have adb installed I can't tell you how to navigate there properly.
A jig will force download mode.
i finally got the adb to work, but when i got it into download mode to flash back to stock, my USB got unplugged! just my luck right? now its stuck in that "phone+!+computer" screen...how do i get out of this or will i still need a jig?

Adb is of no use now, try the button combos a few more times, if that don't get it to dl mode you will need a jig.
Better than being bricked though!!

damn i was hoping it wouldnt come to that. do you think if i bring it to ATT device support and say i decided to mess around with my phone one day and that just happened they would give me a new phone? haha, because i mean, it is because the power button is stuck so i can't "release" the power button when it needs to be released in the process of fixing it right?
Good point, I've been hopping around threads all day and forgot that was your issue ... Tell them about the power button thing and that you were using kies to update thinking it would fix the issue but something happened during the process "idk maybe the power button was still stuck" you should be ok.

The power button on my captivate is pretty much not working. Im not really 100% whats going on with it but as soon as i put in the battery, it automatically turns on and if i hold volume up and down it reboots. however when the phone is on pressing it does nothing, and the same for recovery.
Does anyone know of anyway to fix this?
If the buttons a goner whatre my options for working around this..

im on froyo bootloaders runnin miui
Then it has to be both volume and usb, check the usb dbug is on.

did you solve your problem, my power button just started doing the same thing, and i need to be able to get it into download mode so i can flash back to stock before going in for warranty. any options besides a jig, will a jig even solve this problem?

Just Flash the Stock Firmware with FlashTool or Factory Reset if you want to delete all files.
Edit: There is no way for Hard Reset using buttons but there is called Device or Hardware Reset which is pressing Center and Power at the same time. Works on nAa, not Alfs.

Well, it will just immediately reboot the phone. But it doesn't work every time. Sometimes the phone stays turned off and you have to take out the battery and put it in to make the phone able to boot.
This works on all nAa's kernels.

It just turned on, im not sure how. I rooted it and flashed it with litening rom

i flashed to that rom months ago. it was working fine until today. i left my phone aside and when i got back to it. this problem happened

may be try doing a factory reset.. or going to a different rom.
without the power button u mite not be able to go to recovery mode.. do u have the option in toggle..

Im sure its not stucked. Oh well, i still have warrenty for it but i need to wipe the phone or unroot it. please advise
yeah u need to be on stock ROM for warranty.. as i said anyhow install a stock GB rom and then do a factory reset and check..
