You lost root when you rolled back to rc 29. You'll need to redo the process.
Yep just like he said. When you reload RC29 you lose root.
Yes I know I lost root not worried about that. My phone will not let me install in apk. From the market or the internet. I can down load them but not install them
any ideas
let me clear stuff up. i know i lost root im not trying to flash anything to my phone. ( i have rooted 3 different g1s several times and a couple of different ways i have good idea how this works i think)
i cant install any application on my phone!
i am getting a installation unsuccessful error with all .apks on rc 29.
also this mean i can not get root back do the fact i cant telnet or run any third party app.
so my phone i stuck in original stock hell.

I apologize, stupid SEO plugin was rewriting the url and messing up a seperate plugin. Links are now working if you still need to upgrade.
My tutorial shows you how to root and upgrade everything and install cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 if you want to try the 2.1 version which is in testing, go to the cyanogenmod repository on my site, go into the testing folder for the G1 and download that rom instead. Use that rom instead of 4.2.15.1 as the final step.

If you have gtalk pm me your gtalk email and I'll try and step you through it if you absolutely can't figure it out.
Thanks for all the answers! I think I have a good understanding of what I need to do now, so here goes...
*crosses fingers*
I'm following the instructions on myhangoutonline.com.
Well, so far so good, with some minor hiccups:
During the downgrade your phone step, when the phone says "Press the action key" after step 6, it's talking about the trackball button. Took me a little while to figure that out.
However, after I pressed it, it just went back to the initial multicolor gradient screen, with the addition of a line in the middle that said "Serial0". (maybe it was there before, but I missed it?) I ended up having to pull the battery because I could figure out how to make it reboot.
After reboot I had to go through the Google sign in process. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice to mention that this is necessary.
Upgrading recovery seemed to go pretty much as described. On to the apparent dangerous step of upgrading the radio & spl!
Uh oh! It looks like something didn't work. I started up in recovery mode, but there's no option in the menu for "Mount SD card".
I tried going to console, then "ls /sdcard", but no files show up, and /sdcard doesn't show up as a mounted filesystem when I run "mount".
I couldn't figure out how to get out of the console ("exit" just took me back to a "press enter" prompt, and then back into the console), so I ended up pulling the battery again.
Now what? Should I try upgrading recovery again?
Making a thread for this for now since it will probably get buried in the RUU post.
Most important thing first, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RAN UNREVOKED FOREVER AND HAVE S-OFF! IF NOT DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS!
Get the RUU here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Inc...4k_NV_1.50_PRL58006_release_143351_signed.exe
Follow this guide by IncredibleDoes to extract the rom.zip update here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695825&highlight=RUU
(don't download the file he tells you to, download the one linked above, but follow the rest of the guide to get the rom.zip file)
Once you get the rom.zip, follow this guide below:
1. Install this update, get rom.zip from the RUU file, rename to PB31IMG.ZIP (somewhere in this thread there is a post with link to rom.zip, but you still have to rename it), make sure your SD-Card was formatted as Fat32 and put this on the root.
2. Boot into hboot
3. Install PB31IMG.ZIP (not the one I attached to this post)
**Step 3 note** Your phone might reboot to either hboot or recovery after trying to install PB31IMG.ZIP, just get back to hboot and install again, when you get back to hboot you should notice its version .92 and S-OFF is still on, just install PB31IMG.ZIP again and all should be good. I believe at one point after it updates hboot it has to reboot to finish the install, so this might be what you are seeing.
4. Reboot, setup your google account, etc. (note first boot might take a few minutes and appear that your phone is stuck at the droid eye animation, be patient and don't do a battery pull)
5. Put the files I attached to this post on root of your SD-Card
***Files are PB31IMG.ZIP (this is not the update, either delete the other PB31IMG.ZIP or rename it to PB31IMG.BAK, this is just clockwork recovery in the PB31IMG.ZIP) , busybox.zip (remove the.zip extension, so the file is just busybox) ,payload-update.zip, and su-2.3.2.1-ef-signed.zip***
6. Power down phone and boot to hboot (hold optical button + power)
7. Install PB31IMG.ZIP in hboot, this installs clockwork recovery
8. Once that is done installing, press volume down, so your phone doesnt reboot, then select recovery
9. Once you boot into recovery choose install zip from SD-Card, then choose payload-update.zip
10. After that installs, choose to install another zip and install su-2.3.2.1-ef-signed.zip
11. Reboot and enjoy your rooted phone.
***Update*** I didn't realize busybox wasn't in the payload-update.zip I have attached it to this post. This site wouldn't let me post it without an extension, so rename busybox.zip --> busybox with no .zip extension. Also you can easily go to the market and download busybox, this requires root, which you will have, and it will install busybox for you after you click install.
Might as well put the usual disclaimer while I am editing this.
I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone, any issues, explosions, or bricks are caused at your own discretion.

Yes
This updates your hboot to .92 and OS and I don't think the splash changes, but it is in the update. The radio will update if you don't already have the 2.15 radio installed.
Why can't we JUST flash the OS? I already have 2.15 radio, and I don't care about Hboot.
Can't we just flash the OS and leave everything else the same? Like other custom ROMs?

You could, but this is just the way to do things now until someone puts out a rom. If you install this as-is, unrevoked 3 doesnt work anymore. This is a workaround to get root and recovery on your phone. I think the hboot .92 blocks unrevoked 3 from working, seems thats the part it failed for me was when it was in hboot. Of course we could always downgrade hboot.

Guys you gotta give devs time to DEVelope, and to POST there new stuff. this leak just came about last night.
if you notice this is the 4TH leak, AND like the 3 previous leaks, there has been ROMs built from the leaks, AND ROMs of the leak, so give it time, this is just for those who have S-OFF have no patience. and are WILLING and nice enough to test and share there information.
people with S-OFF have the option of doing this, and of coarse downgrading hboot, blah blah, if you don't want to deal with all that, (which is me) wait for the awesome devs to do there thing, and release there stuff. you know Adrynalye is all over this, and will have a 4th wave put out when he has the time. patience is a virtue. too bad me and most don't have much.

I got 34.246 MFLOPS
Using KiNgxKernel #3
I actually had to go back into HBOOT 3 times just to flash the initial zip. It had to update the bootloader twice with quick restarts for some reason, but then it continued the update fine after that. Scared me a little bit.
Question
I asked this in another thread, but this one seems to be a much more appropriate place to ask ... for those of us with SOFF but otherwise stock, is there a reason to go through the extraction/etc steps ... what is the downside of just running the RUU?
jdmba said:

The RUU might not work, think some people tried and it didn't work. If you browse through the other post, you might be able to find someone who posted a link to download the rom.zip, but its really not that hard to do.
Nandroid Restore?
Thanks ... one more question.
If I try this, and hate it (or it turns out to be super buggy), can I restore a nandroid backup of my current setup (Radio 1.00.3.xxxx; HBOOT .77; Stock 2.1-Update) or will some of that not restore.
Thanks!
Hey all, Team Black Hat have released a series of update.zip’s that will allow you to easily flash the newest kernel, radio, system, and bootloader. Thought some might wanna download ASAP in case they get pulled.

I have downloaded these 4 files. Now I go to Bootstrap/Recovery and use the Update.zip option for these files one at a time? (in a particular order?) OR do I re-name them update.zip one at a time?
Secondly, I have ApeX 1.2.1 installed... it's working with .320 and I wonder if it will work with the new files?
Any advice on these 2 things. (please)
Thanks.

To answer your first question, we don't need to rename them. We can got o bootstrap and update them one by one. I don't think there's a particular order, however, I do think that we can only do one at a time (install one and then reboot)
I'm not sure about coming from Apex, i'm personally coming from Fission 2.3.1, and I am a little scared to do these....

Yeah no renaming is needed.
I am on fission 2.3.1 as well, flashed the Kernel, Bootloader, and Radio Image all one after another while in clockworkmod recovery, and had 0 issues.
U will have to *228 again after radio, but other than that u its fine.
So I just got a question..is this the file that is downloaded ota or put together by these guys? I only ask cause trying to understand why we can't just throw in our own stuff in this update.zip and resign it..but I am sure there is some kind of keys we will be missing
Did the 2.3.340 SBF also update the radio or should I use the .zip to update that?

Lol, if only it were that simple, unfortunately we can't because of the bootloader being locked, it wont pass security, so we can only modify or use their kernels.

If u did the .340 sbf u should be all up to date, this is more for .320 users and such. U can double check ur kernel, radio version in about phone though as well.
ive recently upgraded from my Eris to an X so im having a hard time understanding all of what i need to do, ive downloaded these files and saved them cuz im sure ill need them as soon as i learn everything can anyone point me to a cut and dry tutorial or some kind of explanation? thanks!!!!! loving the x already
edit: i am searching while im waiting for an answer, my bootloader says 30.04 but i dont understand the whole sbf stuff and i can get into clockworkmod recovery im not completely helpless just a little lost after playing with my eris so much.
Confused
I downloaded each file then rebooted into recovery. I installed each file one by one. I reboot system out of recovery and I get a black screen that says:
Bootloader

HOW TO get your HTC One M8S back to Factory / stock.
Attention 1: This is NOT for the regular HTC One M8.
Attention 2: This is for the HTC One M8S also known as the M8_QL_UL
(The One M8S does not have a separate subforum on XDA.)
Hi everyone! I saw that many people who have a HTC One M8S have problems with restoring the stock HTC RUU. It is a little bit difficult. So here I'll supply you again with steps that worked for me.
Most of this is a copy from a post I made earlier. But I saw that many of you still have some problems. So here is a dedicated thread.
I have used this method multiple times to restore my phone back to factory defaults. I hope it works for you too!
Warning. You will lose your settings. Everything will be reset to the defaults.
Read these important notes before you begin!
When you need fastboot: only HTC's own fastboot program will work. You will use fastboot, for example, when you want to flash a custom recovery.
Other fastboot applications will not work correctly in my experience! So be sure you use HTC's.
If you need it: HTC will send you a link when you unlock your bootloader. But you can also find fastboot via the same page as where you can find the RUUs.... see below.
Do you have an SDCard ready? You must have one to get this to work and it must be big enough. ADB sideload will NOT work!
Is your phone relocked? It must be! If not, relock it, then come back.
Most of the problems happen because people read too fast. This stuff just takes a long time.. so don't do it if you are in a hurry. And do read carefully.
Are you ready? Ok! Here we go.
Download the RUU zip you want to use. I have used ...HTC_Europe_1.16... BUT later I found this did not allow the newest OTA update (as of august 30th, 2015). Maybe I will test 1.11 some day later.
However, I think that 1.11 is the right version. Not sure where to download the RUU or fastboot? Click the button.
For me, I downloaded the RUU zip via the generous hosting by @El-Conkistador. You can find it via his post here. On his page there is a directory called Firmware (Expert). In there is a directory called Firmware Crypted (Original HTC). In that directory are multiple directories containing RUUs. Choose one for your device, download it, then come back here.
Open your sdcard. It must be fat32 or exFAT formatted.
Copy the RUU zip file onto the root of the sdcard. Do NOT extract it. Just copy it.
You must now rename it to: 0PKVIMG.zip. The first character is the number 0 (zero), not the letter O!
If you know how to do this, take the md5sum from the RUU zip on your computer, and 0PKVIMG.zip on your SDcard. They must be the same! If not, there can be a problem with your SDCard.
Safely unload and remove the SDCard from your computer.
Power off your phone.
Are you sure you want to continue? Then insert the SDCard into the phone..
Take a deep breath..
Boot the phone to the bootloader: hold Volume Down. Press the power button. Release both buttons when you are inside the bootloader.
When you are in the bootloader, press power once to enter fastboot mode.
The restoration process should will now start. Confirm on the screen when it's asked. Then wait patiently, it takes a long time!
Nice detail: there is a small sidebar at the top right side of the screen that will show you progress. Sometimes it will go back to 0; it will fill up more than once.
In case of failure
In my case it failed the first time. Probably because a sector on my SDCard was faulty. I found out by verifying the md5sum of the file on the sdcard, it was not the same as the RUU zip on my computer, but it has to be.
To fix it, I copied the RUU zip to the sdcard for the second time, *then* deleted 0PKVIMG.img, and *then* renamed the RUU zip to 0PKVIMG.zip. Then I looked at the md5sum again. Now it was the same as on my computer... and then the restoration worked.
Still need help?
If you have questions, ask and wait patiently. I am not on this page 24/7, no one is. Just don't panic. Don't demand help. Maybe read this stuff again and see if you made a mistake somewhere.
It is logical that you are annoyed if this stuff doesn't go how you want, sure, it is not the easiest thing to do. I have tried to make it easier, but again, if it still fails, just ask your questions and wait patiently. Treat others like how you want to be treated yourself.
Good luck!

The exact filename of the RUU I used:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Do you see a few green lines that say "searching for 0pkvimg.zip" when you go to hboot? They disappear pretty quickly.

Is it a fat32 or exfat sdcard? Is the md5sum for 0pkvimg.zip correct? It should be 70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249

i checked and it is fat32 and i still don't get where the md5sum is located and where i should put it .-.
the md5sum is a long string of characters called a checksum. It scans a file and calculates what number it should get. Other types of checksums are SHA-1, SHA-256, RIPE-MD160 and so on.
MD5 is fairly lightweight so that's why we usually choose md5 for files.
md5sum itself is a program that you can run from the command line. If you use linux, it should be on your computer already, so just do 'md5sum 0pkvimg.zip'. On windows, well, you need md5sum.exe and run that from a command line. But I have not used Windows in so many years that I don't know where to find md5sum.exe. I'm sure you can find it easily... I would google for this, but you can do that too so I'll leave that part up to you.
So: you don't put the md5sum anywhere.. you calculate an md5sum and compare it with the number I gave you previously. Hope this makes sense, keep asking if you need more help.
Hi guys,
Im new to all this I just want to ask for little help here my m8s has unlocked bootloader and modified (unofficial) software (says in bootloader)
Im running 5.0.2 soft ver
Soft number 1.16.401.10
Custom recovery TWRP
Phone is rooted but i need to send it back to htc as its dropping calls randomly within 25secs. All i need is the right ruu so its stock again and says relocked (i know how to relock) official soft and that OTAs would work.
Also do i leave this custom recovery there or before the ruu will i put in the stock one, relock the BL and then the ruu?
Any help is much appreciated.

Just relock. The Ruu does the rest! I used 1.11, the exact filename is in my OP. If you have a vendor phone I'm not sure but I think you can still use the same RUU as I have; if not, you will be notified from hboot. Does that answer your question?
Yes thank you.

I owe you a pint of beer sir. Thank you!

Great! Glad to hear.
Cyanogenmod is still in the works. I have finally gotten a preliminary version to boot, so to those of you who are interested, head over to the CyanogenMod 12 on M8s thread...
HTC One M8S: Cyanogenmod 12 Discussion
hi all,
I give up, downloaded three zips from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245

...inside the zip file there is no 0PKVIMG.img file so dont realy know what to rename . . .
...yes checked md5 sum and they are OK
...sd card is fat32 (tried copying zip file from two different laptops , no difference)
...Custom recovery TWRP

this phone is giving all sort of issues, no custom roms with updates, SIM_Card error sometimes 10+ times a day causing call disconnections and reboots, cant update to lates htc soft as on custom rom it just dont work.....

Hiya. Ugh I get how frustrating this can be!! But you're close, so we'll get you sorted out. FYI on saturday and sunday I'm not around much (family comes first ), so replies might take me a while... but we'll figure it out.
You need this exact file:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Copy that to the sdcard and rename it to 0PVKIMG.zip, don't extract it just rename it. The md5sum should be:
Code:
70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249
If that won't work, we need to figure out why. That comes next. :good:

You should use Cyanogenmod, not Pandora. Pandora is old, is not updated, and contains a very problematic security issue with libstagefright. Use cyanogenmod for your own good!
