HOW TO get your HTC One M8S back to Factory / stock.
Attention 1: This is NOT for the regular HTC One M8.
Attention 2: This is for the HTC One M8S also known as the M8_QL_UL
(The One M8S does not have a separate subforum on XDA.)
Hi everyone! I saw that many people who have a HTC One M8S have problems with restoring the stock HTC RUU. It is a little bit difficult. So here I'll supply you again with steps that worked for me.
Most of this is a copy from a post I made earlier. But I saw that many of you still have some problems. So here is a dedicated thread.
I have used this method multiple times to restore my phone back to factory defaults. I hope it works for you too!
Warning. You will lose your settings. Everything will be reset to the defaults.
Read these important notes before you begin!
When you need fastboot: only HTC's own fastboot program will work. You will use fastboot, for example, when you want to flash a custom recovery.
Other fastboot applications will not work correctly in my experience! So be sure you use HTC's.
If you need it: HTC will send you a link when you unlock your bootloader. But you can also find fastboot via the same page as where you can find the RUUs.... see below.
Do you have an SDCard ready? You must have one to get this to work and it must be big enough. ADB sideload will NOT work!
Is your phone relocked? It must be! If not, relock it, then come back.
Most of the problems happen because people read too fast. This stuff just takes a long time.. so don't do it if you are in a hurry. And do read carefully.
Are you ready? Ok! Here we go.
Download the RUU zip you want to use. I have used ...HTC_Europe_1.16... BUT later I found this did not allow the newest OTA update (as of august 30th, 2015). Maybe I will test 1.11 some day later.
However, I think that 1.11 is the right version. Not sure where to download the RUU or fastboot? Click the button.
For me, I downloaded the RUU zip via the generous hosting by @El-Conkistador. You can find it via his post here. On his page there is a directory called Firmware (Expert). In there is a directory called Firmware Crypted (Original HTC). In that directory are multiple directories containing RUUs. Choose one for your device, download it, then come back here.
Open your sdcard. It must be fat32 or exFAT formatted.
Copy the RUU zip file onto the root of the sdcard. Do NOT extract it. Just copy it.
You must now rename it to: 0PKVIMG.zip. The first character is the number 0 (zero), not the letter O!
If you know how to do this, take the md5sum from the RUU zip on your computer, and 0PKVIMG.zip on your SDcard. They must be the same! If not, there can be a problem with your SDCard.
Safely unload and remove the SDCard from your computer.
Power off your phone.
Are you sure you want to continue? Then insert the SDCard into the phone..
Take a deep breath..
Boot the phone to the bootloader: hold Volume Down. Press the power button. Release both buttons when you are inside the bootloader.
When you are in the bootloader, press power once to enter fastboot mode.
The restoration process should will now start. Confirm on the screen when it's asked. Then wait patiently, it takes a long time!
Nice detail: there is a small sidebar at the top right side of the screen that will show you progress. Sometimes it will go back to 0; it will fill up more than once.
In case of failure
In my case it failed the first time. Probably because a sector on my SDCard was faulty. I found out by verifying the md5sum of the file on the sdcard, it was not the same as the RUU zip on my computer, but it has to be.
To fix it, I copied the RUU zip to the sdcard for the second time, *then* deleted 0PKVIMG.img, and *then* renamed the RUU zip to 0PKVIMG.zip. Then I looked at the md5sum again. Now it was the same as on my computer... and then the restoration worked.
Still need help?
If you have questions, ask and wait patiently. I am not on this page 24/7, no one is. Just don't panic. Don't demand help. Maybe read this stuff again and see if you made a mistake somewhere.
It is logical that you are annoyed if this stuff doesn't go how you want, sure, it is not the easiest thing to do. I have tried to make it easier, but again, if it still fails, just ask your questions and wait patiently. Treat others like how you want to be treated yourself.
Good luck!

The exact filename of the RUU I used:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Do you see a few green lines that say "searching for 0pkvimg.zip" when you go to hboot? They disappear pretty quickly.

Is it a fat32 or exfat sdcard? Is the md5sum for 0pkvimg.zip correct? It should be 70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249

i checked and it is fat32 and i still don't get where the md5sum is located and where i should put it .-.
the md5sum is a long string of characters called a checksum. It scans a file and calculates what number it should get. Other types of checksums are SHA-1, SHA-256, RIPE-MD160 and so on.
MD5 is fairly lightweight so that's why we usually choose md5 for files.
md5sum itself is a program that you can run from the command line. If you use linux, it should be on your computer already, so just do 'md5sum 0pkvimg.zip'. On windows, well, you need md5sum.exe and run that from a command line. But I have not used Windows in so many years that I don't know where to find md5sum.exe. I'm sure you can find it easily... I would google for this, but you can do that too so I'll leave that part up to you.
So: you don't put the md5sum anywhere.. you calculate an md5sum and compare it with the number I gave you previously. Hope this makes sense, keep asking if you need more help.
Hi guys,
Im new to all this I just want to ask for little help here my m8s has unlocked bootloader and modified (unofficial) software (says in bootloader)
Im running 5.0.2 soft ver
Soft number 1.16.401.10
Custom recovery TWRP
Phone is rooted but i need to send it back to htc as its dropping calls randomly within 25secs. All i need is the right ruu so its stock again and says relocked (i know how to relock) official soft and that OTAs would work.
Also do i leave this custom recovery there or before the ruu will i put in the stock one, relock the BL and then the ruu?
Any help is much appreciated.
Sent from my HTC One M8s using XDA Free mobile app
Just relock. The Ruu does the rest! I used 1.11, the exact filename is in my OP. If you have a vendor phone I'm not sure but I think you can still use the same RUU as I have; if not, you will be notified from hboot. Does that answer your question?
Yes thank you.
Sent from my HTC One M8s using XDA Free mobile app
Tried on windows twice then got a blue screen (on the pc) did the 1.11 on my macbook and phone is now back to official and relocked!
I owe you a pint of beer sir. Thank you!

Great! Glad to hear.
Cyanogenmod is still in the works. I have finally gotten a preliminary version to boot, so to those of you who are interested, head over to the CyanogenMod 12 on M8s thread...
HTC One M8S: Cyanogenmod 12 Discussion
hi all,
I give up, downloaded three zips from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245

1.11
1.11 - combined signed
and every time I get error "no image or image wrong....no gift file....loading image 0Pkvidiag.zip - No image! loading 0PKVIDIAG.nbh...no image or wrong image"
...inside the zip file there is no 0PKVIMG.img file so dont realy know what to rename . . .
...yes checked md5 sum and they are OK
...sd card is fat32 (tried copying zip file from two different laptops , no difference)
...Custom recovery TWRP
this is m8s european version which was rooted , fastboot shows now RELOCKED and this images just dont work ,
this phone is giving all sort of issues, no custom roms with updates, SIM_Card error sometimes 10+ times a day causing call disconnections and reboots, cant update to lates htc soft as on custom rom it just dont work.....

Hiya. Ugh I get how frustrating this can be!! But you're close, so we'll get you sorted out. FYI on saturday and sunday I'm not around much (family comes first ), so replies might take me a while... but we'll figure it out.
You need this exact file:
Code:
0PKVIM[email protected]50311_15.00_016_F_release_430101_signed.zip
Copy that to the sdcard and rename it to 0PVKIMG.zip, don't extract it just rename it. The md5sum should be:
Code:
70eece34781f0b1449f98f03e842f249
If that won't work, we need to figure out why. That comes next. :good:

You should use Cyanogenmod, not Pandora. Pandora is old, is not updated, and contains a very problematic security issue with libstagefright. Use cyanogenmod for your own good!

mate, let me know what is your RUU before doing the unlock. which part of download section did you take. Because mine, i got none. But i just continued to the fastboot oec, and simply send the code, and voila, its ***unlocked***
so i just wonder, why hboot updated is required since first, i dont get the update even i check it again and again, and second, it still can be unlocked without updating the firmware.

how did you do it?? which RUU are you on??
tried this, failed to update hboot, rom image error. basically im unable to update this hboot version.
this is the problem im having all round, i cannot update or revert from this chinese rom im using.
as for the fastboot, no point as i cannot get past stage one lol
why dont you try fastboot?? you might get lucky, kanded said he did it without updating... or is it that HTC is just bullsh**ing everyone bye saying it can be unlocked, but not providing the necessary updates for unlocking??

don't know,
i do know u have to have all sdk parts installed as im unsure what it needs to run with, that took 2 hrs getting it all.
ive tried again, even skipping to fastboot, still nothing.
but ive already tampered with mine, already has cwm installed, s-off and rooted, with chinese uk o2 rom installed......so i wonder if he's using standard issue rom from scratch, but either way, it may not work on all salsa handsets.
but keep trying if you want. the option to send it us is still there!
man, i want to clarify.
the first time i bought this salsa, it is hTC Asia WWE, with S-ON of course.
there is no English language. fu** with it, so i tried to change into RUU O2 UK, by making my sdcard as a goldcard, and put the RUU files onto it.
Here i tell you the way, the RUU files is exe, right ? You can directly flash it as long as you got goldcard (its not hard to make it, everybody knows that)
Or, if that fail, there is still a way updating the stock rom with RUU. Install the exe, while its popping up in ur windows, open task manager, and you see RUU instalshield wizard is running, right ? now go to process, and see Aruwizard.exe
properties that aruwizard.exe, and open file location. you will see there is a zip "rom.zim"
rename that rom zip into PH11IMG.zip and put it into your sdcard that has been as a goldcard. now do the hboot, it will do the recovery itself. let me know if it works.
after that, go to htcdev, and then next step, no need to download for upgrading, bla bla bla, i got my bin_unlock by emails twice. hahaha.
get helped ? say thanks

its for you bigbear, i read in any thread that you got problem with your rom right now, that you wanna go back to your stock from that chinese one rom, confirm me if im right.
you may try the way i've said above.
you know of course i also flash that custom rom you post, but i can get back to my before rom.
this is that we must be carefull. if you wanna get back to the last rom you have, you gotta do backup via recovery. there is a backup and restore section. do the backup, and save your backup (it is in clockwordmod folder) in the safest place.
lets say you wanna get back, just do the restore, and voila, you are in your home sweet home. no problemo at all altough you got big headache because of flashing the wrong rom
this is the way :
1) Format SD card as Fat32
2) Install HTC Sync Drivers. (available at htc.com)
3)Connect Your phone to PC. USB Debugging must on and usb connection type: Only Charging.)
4) Open SimpleGoldCard Tool as a admin
and follow procedure step by step at SimpleGoldcard tool.
works now, thanks to kanded and 0x.shivam.x0

How did you get a custom rom running on your phone? I can't root my phone because I don't have access to the clip. Is there any other method?
By going to htcdev and getting my bootloader unlocked. From there its plain sailing

Alright thanks man. Appreciated. And good stuff with the site. Lastly, would you happen to know what language should i learn to write a kernel and for a rom?
And yes i pressed the thanks button
To learn kernels and Roms its best to use Ubuntu Linux. And I found finding a Dev that could teach u what u need, I'm still learning but my Ubuntu is offline so I've not progressed any further yet.

Tried it and its working fine. Thanks to BigBearEvo's site. i could easily flash a 3.5 rom
Hey everyone new poster to the forums here . Have a question about loosing the stock ROM for my HTC M7 Dev edition. I made the backup but I think when I formatted I formatted more then I should have because when I pull up TWRP recovery mode to restore a backup nothing is listed in the window. However when I go into the internal storage in windows on my computer with the phone connected and look inside HTC One\Internal storage\TWRP\BACKUPS I found a folder called HT34GW9xxxxx and a sub directory with a date on it and it looks like the date that I did the flash in the first place. That folder also has 13 files in it equaling out to 4.25GB in size. So basically what I'm getting at is how come I can see this folder here but not in recovery and even if I could see it in recovery this seems like it's not large enough to be HTC Sense 5.0 according to this thread and the downloads attached to it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248997&highlight=nandroid
Also speaking of that thread considering the original M7 Dev rom is gone can I use that thread to restore my phone even though I am using TWRP and not clockwork. I'm not the greatest at these type of things, I don't want to brick my phone, and I never have enough time invest in this stuff. If I knew this was going to happy I probably wouldn't have done it in the first place lol.
Thank you in advance and sorry if this has already been talked about, I did a search but I must have skipped over it if it was already out there :\.

Thank you for the help. A follow up question would be is there a place to get someone's previous backup and download it like the link I put up in the previous posts user did. I really don't want to lock the boot loader and I would love to just be able to easily get Cyanogenmod back on the phone easily. Reason being is that right now the Cm camera just isn't up to pay with the Sense camera software and if I go to an event like I am tonight I would like to be able to swap back and fourth.
TWRP and CWM backups aren't compatible with each other. You'd have to flash the relevant recovery to use a corresponding backup.
You still have your backup though. You said as much in your OP. You just need to go into TWRP settings and specify the default location for your backups.
As mentioned above however, you can just flash the official RUU to return to stock
Thanks a ton!
Just wanna say thanks to the both of you for your help. I went with option 2 for now because I want to switch back to CM after the Cardinals MLB game tonight. I never lost the backup and you were right I just had to find the folder. It was weird I didn't see any button to search for a folder kinda odd how TWRP is layer out in that interface. Yet I found the backed up file and took about 10 minutes from start to finish. The device is still unlocked to so I can reflash CM when I'm ready.
A little off topic but does anyone know what the difference between the GSM Cyanogenmod ROMs and the AT&T ROMs are? I have the Dev version but flashed the AT&T version and it ran fine made calls and had no data transfer issues at all.
Ok so I actually started having issues after that last post. What was happening was I kept getting this HTC system update my guess the Camera software update but whatever. So I clicked on the update now and it downloaded like normal then reboot. After it reboot it booted into TWRP recovery well at that point I didn't know what to do so I just went a head and rebooted into System. Well here is where the issue started it said again system update avalible ok great install, same deal it just booted back into TWRP after the download. Back into system I went and again same thing.
At this point I desided to go into TWRP and do a system restore and I thought that worked cause it wasn't notifying me immediately after the launcher loaded to install the update. So I checked for it manually and of course there was one. Tapped on Install it downloaded and asked to reboot so I did...
SAME ISSUE AHHHHGGG! Lol
This will be the end of me haha.
Is there something I'm missing here? Can I not have root access or a a third party boot loader like TWRP or both modifying the system. What am I missing?
Ok thanks again, sorry for the multiple posts I'm just so frustrated at this point.

This my very wild guess. Try flashing stock recovery first and then install the OTA update again. That's just my wild guess I'm not saying it will 100% work.
No luck

Hopefully this helps..
What I did find was this link here...http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc...ml#post2827047 that's where someone else is having the same issue but on Sprint I'm guessing. So that doesn't really apply to me. However a poster further down the thread gave another link to all these "nandroid?" files. I'm not really sure what a nandroid is haha I'm such a noob at this. Basically what they are saying is that unrooting it then i guess somehow putting this "nandroid" file on it somehow. Anyone have any idea on this. I'm terribly sorry for my noobishness but I'm trying to learn all this and it's really frustrating at first..
Here's the link to the nandroid files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2207874 funny thing is that I actually found that link on Android Central website so that I could come back here and repost about it again heh. Anyways does that look like something that might fix the issue that I'm having?
Even if this file does help I have no idea what to do with it but that first link seemed to have some video's attached to it although I worry about following them because it's for Sprint and I really don't want to brick my phone. (another reason I am being so careful) You pay over 600 dollars for a device you tend to be super careful with anything you do with it.

Sorry about that.
All fixed!!
Ok so I got it. I ended up finding this http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-unrootunbrick-the-htc-one-to-stock-2/
Worked great fixed everything. Linked to the RUU on HTC Dev website also so its official.:good:
So basically if Anyone need to restore to factory from a mess they have made follow this guide it works perfectly and he does an execelent job of describing how to do it in a video he posted step by step.
all,
it was with reckless abandon and blind/naive decisions that got me to this point. i will just lay it all out what ive done in the hopes one of you brilliant minds will lead me into the light. before i lay out the steps in which ridiculous choices led me to this conundrum, here is the question...
Where do i go from here to resolve the issue that i have and can get into bootloader (tampered/unlocked and in S-ON) but i have no operating system?
keep in mind that Ive probably and admittedly should not have been dabbling in things i had no business doing with the little to no proper due diligence...."i am awarded no points and may god have mercy on my soul!!!!!!!!!!!!"
1) i used the htc dev process to unlock my bootloader and it worked well.
2) i then proceeded to flash some custom recovery .img files via "fastboot flash recovery <insert filename here" and the .img at the end of course.
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.4-m7 <---didnt take the first time or anytime. kept saying "entering recovery" but then the screen would go black, not boot into the recovery screen and then the phone would reboot as it would normally and go into stock OS
i then tried the following .img files below, all with the same result...
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.1-m7
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-m7
openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7
recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.2-m7ul <<<---this was the only recovery .img file that would take so i then decided to play around with the options.
3) i then proceeded to make another ridiculous choice. under one of the options in clockwork recovery "classic" menus i went forth and selected the "wipe data/factory reset" option.
so what i have now is i believe a htc one sprint phone that has bootloader unlocked with what i believe is no OS. i hear on my computer the sound when it connects via "fastboot usb" but obviously the computer doesn't recognize it so i can copy and paste a zip file onto it.
i was looking at a few threads here and could really use some guidance/encouragement. the threads are
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277892 <<< the FAQ sticky
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 <<< the [ROM] stock sprint one 1.31.651.2 thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 <<< the [RUU] sprint htc one 1.29.651.10 thread
what would be the best course of action for me to take? bear in mind that the end result would probably be obviously a working phone, probably stock or w/e seems best.
thank you for taking the time in reading my post. if you require any additional information, please ask. i am probably leaving out important pieces of info.
deadly
All you need to do is fastboot flash recovery a working recovery then check and see if adb works for you in recovery.
If it does then you can adb push a Rom to /sdcard and flash it in the recovery.

as i am very very "scared" to this up any further. what would the suggested "working recovery" file i should choose and then what rom should i use? honestly im tempted at the stock one that i linked but im worried that if that doesnt go smoothly, i will lose my unlocked bootloader feature.

THANKS! i saw this thread earlier. ill take a look. ive at least watched wwjoshdew's video and i think that should work too. downloading the stuff now.
just tried wwjoshdew's directions. looks like i cant do the RUU 1.29xxxx. it goes through all the steps but at the end it says error because of the 1.31xxxx version i have already. i guess that means i have to wait until someone releases an RUU for 1.31.651.2
and if i am not sure if usb debugging mode ins enabled and i cant get back into normal bootup for the phone because i think i wiped my OS like stated in my first post. is my next step to do hansoon's AIO tool kit?

all,
it was with reckless abandon and blind/naive decisions that got me to this point. i will just lay it all out what ive done in the hopes one of you brilliant minds will lead me into the light. before i lay out the steps in which ridiculous choices led me to this conundrum, here is the question...
3) i then proceeded to make another ridiculous choice. under one of the options in clockwork recovery "classic" menus i went forth and selected the "wipe data/factory reset" option.
so what i have now is i believe a htc one sprint phone that has bootloader unlocked with what i believe is no OS. i hear on my computer the sound when it connects via "fastboot usb" but obviously the computer doesn't recognize it so i can copy and paste a zip file onto it.
i was looking at a few threads here and could really use some guidance/encouragement. the threads are
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277892 <<< the FAQ sticky
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 <<< the [ROM] stock sprint one 1.31.651.2 thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 <<< the [RUU] sprint htc one 1.29.651.10 thread
what would be the best course of action for me to take? bear in mind that the end result would probably be obviously a working phone, probably stock or w/e seems best.
thank you for taking the time in reading my post. if you require any additional information, please ask. i am probably leaving out important pieces of info.

first off thats the wrong recovery, you want openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7wls.img (this is for sprint the m7 is international)2.6 has been giving some problems, don't know if they have it worked out yet, 2.5 is good, so

Use the tool I posted above and try to install htc drivers, install recovery and sideload a SPRINT rom. You could also try s-off and follow this guide for RUU on 1.31 if your still having trouble. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390821

so this is starting to look bleak. i am now able to get into recovery but i cant do adb sideload. it fails. has it got to do with the possibility that usb debugging was not turned on before i wiped data?
any ideas on my next try?

Thank you for the prompt reply. Well I follow the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718150 instruction. I successfully completed to
- Unlock bootloader from htc dev, - donwload and Install Custom Recovery TWRPand - download and install SuperSu from TWRP link. But I missed to complete the S-off step (don't ask me why I didn't do it I really don't know why). Then I followed the steps in the following guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386703 but when I typed :am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity nothing happened (I think it was because I was not s-off). So on other posts, (don't recall which of the thousands I read) I download the Sprint_M8_HK_Stock_Rooted_3.30.654.2_Deodexed.zip and using TWRP I tried to load it into the M8. Process was ok, but now when I turn on the device android will not run showing the screen above attached. Any ideas how to fix android and manage to sim unlock it? (newbie advice is much appreciated)

The second thread you followed that gave you instructions to use the am start command is for the m7. It didn't work because the command isn't leading anywhere on the m8. As for the bootloop, are you sure you flashed the right thing? That is rom is for the Harmon Kardon m8. Can you post a fastboot getvar all (without your serial no and imei)?
no luck

Hey man, it's pretty easy. Download this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=9599 it is important that you use this specific file. Don't trip cause it says harman, it's safe to flash on your device.
After you downloaded follow this instructions.
1. Install WinRar, or 7zip.
2. Open the ROM in either of those programs (don't extract, just open it)
3. Navigate to system, then app, and there you will have to drag and drop the 2 files I have attached.
4. Let WinRar or 7zip save the file (It may take a while 7 - 10 minutes) BE PATIENT.
5. Transfer the modded ROM to your phone
6. Flash in TWRP (Make sure you wipe system partition)
7. Reboot to the system, complete the config wizar
8. Follow the steps to unlock (am.start....... etc.)
9. Enjoy
****** I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT S-OFF IS NOT REQUIRED TO SIM UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE ******
I have made a ton of these and NEVER had to S-Off
If you encounter any issues let me know.

Hey my friend. The thing is that the stock rom doesn't bring the 2 apks required to unlock. So you actually have to push them to your phone. The easiest way is to add them to a custom rom to set the permissions automatically. The other way around is to root the phone, put the two files into the system/app folder and then manually set permissions. If you prefer just follow the instructions I sent on my earlier reply.
Cheers!
android is back to life!

thank you for your directions. good news Android is back to life again, bad news is that sim is still locked, I tried again from terminal emulator the (am.start....... etc.) but I got an error (please see the attached image). I follow all your steps very carefully, the only thing I had to do differently was that I put your attached files in the zip file using windows zip program and it did take a long time to finish (like 30min) I did try with winrar but it keep creating a new small file with just those 2 files. Is it possible that the 2 files were not added correctly?
Thank you for any advice on how to unlock it
going crazy
update: last night I tried the unlocksim.zip file and installed it on my device with TWRP, and then used the method with the the terminal emulator (am ...) and with the sim unlock helper too, but both send me the vDM client has stopped. I read it could be solved with insert coin system, so I go ahead and installed it, but still get the same message. Any ideas?

Hey man, I fotgot to tell ya, you have to be on JellyBean or KitKat for the sim unlock command works. I have tried pushing the files on Lollipop but it always got me force close, so it's better to flash a KitKat rom....

Hey guys, I am having the same problem. Unlocked, rooted, s-on. I tried installing the bad boys 2.1 mod you recommended on the first page, after swapping in the new files, and it still freezes at the HTC one screen. I did a factory wipe before the install as well. I am using a NON HK M8, however I thought that bad boys worked on either. Please let me know if I am incorrect in that aspect.
I am in a similar situation as I purchased this phone and now live in the Caribbean, sprint is blocking my new gsm carrier. What a headache sprint is.

Ok, I downloaded the file and installed it, but it freezes at the htc one screen. Is it possible that the firmaware version needs to be updated? other idea: On your #19 you say it is possible to push the 2 files directly once the system is running, is there a way we can try that?
Have you tried wiping system partition before flashing? What version of TWRP are you using?

ok, finally did it! wipping the partition did the trick and it finally worked ! Well its not a good news at all. Bad news is that even after entering :am start com.redbend... which this time worked and bring me the API menu and then after selecting Sim unlock (and nothing happened). reboot the phone and then entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu and seleccion wcdma prefered still nothing happened. I reboot and again entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu it appears to be again selected the CDM/EvDO.... option, once again selecting WCCDMA preferred and again nothing. I think it is strangethat after rebooting the system the original band appears again to be selected. I am attaching some images which I think can be some kind of help.
Any clue on how to achieve the unlocking will be much appreciated...

Hey, I am trying to revert my HTC desire 510 to stock, i do not have a backup. I found files on the htcdev.com and thought they were Roms (easy catch). Unfortunately they are not. I don't even know what to do with these files in order to get my ROM in place.
My device is a 64bit, was running UK Vodafone rom. i need to get that back on. Need help here...
That up there, old...... I got the solution, thanks to the developers that helped me. Am now posting the links here. Choose which your phone is based on. The link includes different RUU's, not only that of Vodafone.
https://mega.nz/#fm/95YHUAQT
i have been told that the upper link doesnt work, try this...... https://mega.co.nz/#F!3Zo10Zya!-NbM_2RWWecFlc5mH9bLbA
I did not upload anything, so i will not take credit for that job. On the other hand, i will take credit for widely sharing. (Easy Find)
Best way of downloading is having the Mega downloader app on your computer.
Tested and approved for share. I thank all the developers out there. FYI, the RUU's do not exist on the htc.com/uk site. I do not know why. Those of x86 have theres on htc.com/us site.
Hit THanks

HOW TO INSTALL:
What is changed?
Not much is changed.
Bellow are the app replacements I made:
1. Sense Home ---> NOVA Launcher
2. Sense Messages ---> Google Messages (Material Design)
3. Sense Calculator ---> Xlythe Calculator (Material Design)
4. Sense Calendar ---> Google Calendar (Material Design)
5. Sense Clock ---> Google Clock (Material Design)
6. Sense File Manager ---> ES File Explorer
7. Sense Weather ---> AccuWeather
4. Sense Keyboard ---> Google Keyboard
He removed a lot of HTCs and Google’s useless apps and other things, that are taking up space and resources.
From Google apps you have left:
1. Google Play Store
2. Google Chrome
3. Google Play Games
4. Google Drive
4. YouTube
5. All other background apps and services that are required for the Google apps to function properly.
From HTC apps you have left:
1. Camera app
2. FM Radio
3. Gallery (I couldn't find a decent replacement)
4. Music
5. Photo Editor
6. LockScreen
He removed the HTC Browser, Zoe, E-mail and other useless stuff from HTC.
He has included:
1. Clean Master Lite - It's much faster than the full blown app and gets the job done. Lots of people hate it but it works like a charm on this device.
2. DiskInfo - With this little app you can see all of the partitions on your device. Regardless if you are S-ON or S-OFF.
3. Glim Lite - A set of beautiful Material design icons for NOVA launcher.
He didn't include an E-mail app because the Play Store is full of them and I couldn't choose. This choice is up to you.
How to install it?
First of all you need an unlocked bootloader with a TWRP - custom recovery installed on your device.
To unlock your bootloader go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/desi...e-510-t2910233. Follow that tutorial to get your bootloader unlocked. After a successful unlocking you'll need a custom recovery.
Download this file: https://dl.twrp.me/a11ul/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img. This is the latest TWRP recovery for our device. Now we need to flash this file on the device:
Before starting put the contents of the ZIP file on to your SD card. And make sure that it has this folder structure:
Code:
--SD CARD
--TWRP
--BACKUPS
--Your device serial number (The name of this folder should be the serial number of your device otherwise TWRP won't see the backups in this folder)
--2016-04-17--13-49-21_KTU84L_release-keys (Don't change this, I don't know what will happen if you do)
All you do is replace the downloaded backup with your backup, 1st delete your files..... DO NOT REPLACE THE FOLDERS, ONLY THE FILES IN THE LAST FOLDER
1. Power off your device by pulling the battery out and putting it in again.
2. Press the Volume Down and Power Buttons until you see the HBOOT screen.
3. Press the Power button again to enter Fastboot mode.
4. Connect your phone with your PC using an USB cable.
5. Now open your terminal (I'm using Ubuntu but it's same in Windows as well) and type:
Code:
fastboot devices
This will show you an output like this:
Code:
--your devices serial number-- fastboot
If it doesn't show you an output like that then you probably didn't install the drivers correctly or you have a faulty USB cable.
If your output is the same as above than we can move on.
This command will flash the TWRP recovery on your device:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /full/path/to/the/recovery.img
Example:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /home/denny/Downloads/twrp-3.0.2-0-a11ul.img
Now you have TWRP on your device.
To boot TWRP press the Power button to go back to the HBOOT screen and navigate to the RECOVERY option with the volume keys and again press the Power button. After a few seconds you'll see your new recovery.
Restoring the backup
First we need to wipe any potential data that will cause conflicts with the new system.
1. Tap on "Wipe"
2. Tap on "Advanced Wipe"
3. Select all but leave the Micro SDCard option unchecked.
4. Swipe the slider to wipe the data.
After that is complete press on the house button on the lower end of the screen.
Now we are going to restore the backup:
1. Tap on the "Restore" button.
2. At the lower left corner tap on "Select Storage" button.
3. Choose "Micro SDCard" option and press OK.
4. Now you should see the backup folder. Open it.
5. Select "Boot" and "System" and swipe to start the restoring process.
6. Press "Reboot System" after the restoring has finished.
After you setup you system, remove the battery again, launch in to recovery and flash this boot.img

I took a look at that thread, That is my backup plan. Looking for Vodafone UK RUU, found this though https://mega.nz/#!d4ZknKYT!ZhCHoiBSNJl3pBO_G-uv518ssNrGDY6UPH4EpqZ7qog
Not yet downloaded it. i was told that that I can only use that of vodafone UK (x.xx.161.x).

That up there, old...... I got the solution, thanks to the developers that helped me. Am now posting the links here. Choose which your phone is based on. The link includes different RUU's, not only that of Vodafone.

Hey Zubagy. I have been searching for an RUU for vodaphone for ages!! Is this the stock?
Could you advice me on how to apply this after after rooting my device. Will this lock my carrier again. I am actually on a different carrier, but they can't detect tethering because I bought the phone from vodaphone.

Any time, yes... the version is 1.51.161.10. It doesnt lock the operator, your phone is just based on the Vodaphone make but you are able to use any operator. Iam in Uganda and i use the phone for Airtel. The Vodaphone part of it all is to jst show who the makers or promoters are in this case. But all that is Bloatware. I have updated my Blog and added the necessary links that you are intrested in, and how to install. (Debloated rom)
in this case am assuming you have x64 based HTC.
Sorry for the delay in the response this time, I went offline yesterday.
That rom is a '.exe'. this means you will have to ran it on ur windows computer and all u do, is insert the phone when you are asked to, and let the computer do the rest.
If you need further help, dont hesitate....especially when it comes to flashing the fdebloated version, the developer of that version is not replying, dont know why

Many thanks, you have been very helpful,
So all I have to do is download the Vofaphone ROM and run it on my computer after my phone is rooted? Do I need to make sure that boot loader is locked and any other precautions I should take? I wish to unroot the phone afterwards and leave it as the vodaphone version.

No, no need for relocking the boot loader, just go a head and insert your phone as it will tell you too Just make sure you have battery of around 50%+.
your wish will come through to unroot the phone, but trust me.....it is boring. the debloated rom is far much better when it comes to performance. the phone is actually smoother and you get space for other applications. What i did with my phone, i installed the debloated, added a memory card of 8gb, partitioned it so that i can push some apps to the phone..... but hey, anytym......You need more help..... dont hesitate.....will be right here.
hit thanx if this helped

Hi Zubaggy, I have just two more questions.
After I have opened the .exe file and installed the Vodaphone ROM on my phone, do I need to also install the 1.51.161.10 Kernel from the HTCdev website, or does the ROM have that inside it.?
Thanks

I am getting error 155 when I try and install the ROM?
---------- Post added at 10:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ----------
I have tried installing several times (vodaphone UK 1.51.161.7) and at first it gave me error 115 and then the next 3 times was stuck on 0/7 install for 30 minutes. I have rooted using dips root method but this ROM doesn't work. Can you help me?

When you are flashing a RUU, you need to unroot the phone, install the stock recovery and relock the bootloader before you start the install process. The errors above tell you that you haven't done something from the things I mentioned.

I installed the recovery I made using philz touch. I believe I am now unrooted. I was told by Zubaggy that I don't need to relock boot loader. How do I do that anyway?

When you run the RUU the installer expects the phone to be in original shape. That is way it gives our errors when it detects a custom kernel or a custom recovery.
This is the stock kernel:
https://mega.nz/#!LQIDQZzK!pdmMgPrh5clCYWuyAczfzyIhKBFDyysYWAOLRhx0pZM
This is the stock recovery:
https://mega.nz/#!uMQ0ETpB!5YLSOjAHGfDMCrDHIN3smSTjPI35LcD1wSJf4BZ6Luc
Flash them using fastboot and after that relock the bootloader and try the RUU again.
If you have any questions please ask.
EDIT: You can relock the boot loader using the command: fastboot oem lock

Thanks Danny for your fast responses I have been responding to you in my thread but would like to keep it here.
Philz touch is installed on my system and I don't know how to remove it.
Which should I flash first the stock kernel or recovery.
Surely I can't use recovery while I have one already, what if I install the stock recovery and then I haven't got a back up file.
What commands do I need to enter in CMD to flash those files.
Thanks.
