So I just noticed this today when I tried looking up a youtube video:
I went to the Youtube app and found a video to watch and not even a second after I clicked the video I received the following error:
"Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
I hit OK and tried another. Same result. I tried about a dozen more... same.
I thought that MAYBE the Youtube Downloader app from the Market messed something up. So I uninstalled it. Same result. Rebooted my phone. Same.
Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT:
I originally had this issue over a year ago and the problem literally cleared itself back up. So for anyone still having this issue I removed the ***FIXED*** that I had on the title so you can all post your issues.
A little tip.
Please post details such as cache to sd, rom version, phone version, carrier, wifi/3G/Edge and a logcat would be helpful too.
Also list everything that you have done to try to fix the problem (wipe, cache clearing, etc.) so that you can be helped.
Thanks.
I've had the same happen to me. Seems to happen more often when I click a link from another site. When I browse in the Youtube app it seems to work more often.

It doesn't work at all on the Youtube app.
It doesn't work from a site either. The site just prompts me to view in the browser, steel or youtube app. Of course I don't have flash so I can't view it in the browser so my only REAL option is the app (which doesn't work).
Are you sure there wasn't a problem with Youtube's mobile site at the time you tried? I had a problem like this one night, and it was gone the next day.
I just tried it again. Still having the same problem.
Besides, if it was a problem with the site then I'm certain that more people would be experiencing this problem.
i also noticed this problem last night when trying to show this chick an airsoft video of an event i played in.... sure most have heard of it. "Operation Irene III"
it wouldnt play any videos. however, using the youtube downloader app it downloaded the video just fine. and i was able to view the video.
Just putting that out there for you guys
UPDATE:
I just tried it again to see if it would work. Most do now, although I clicked a couple that didn't. It must be a problem with Youtube and not my phone.
Phew! That's a relief.
Thanks guys.
the same thing was happening 2 me last night while i was trying 2 watch a couple of videos on youtube...

I've seen this issue when I had network problems - for example, I had a low wifi signal and the phone was apparently switching between edge and wifi back and forth while in the middle of downloading and playing a youtube video. The error showed up in the middle of the video.
So, it may not necessarily be the youtube website or your phone, but it may have to do with the state/quality of network connection too - e.g. how many packets are dropped, and how the youtube client is able to handle it.
Just checked it out on mine. I'm not having any real problems. I will, of course, post any problems that occur when I see them.
i seemed to have this problem when i had too many apps running, a quick jump to task manager and kill unused tasks seemed to clear it up. also a reboot would clear it up, im thinking it's a memory issue.

Nah. Tried all of that. Taskmanager, reboot, cache clear, you name it. I think it was a problem with Youtube.

Tried it on 3 (THAT'S RIGHT... THREE) different wifi networks, my 3G network and an Edge network. It wasn't a bandwidth problem.
My 3G I was averaging around 500kb/s
1st wifi was over 2000kb/s (@work)
2nd wifi was around 300kb/s (@work)
3rd wifi was about 4000kb/s (@home)
None were able to play any of the random youtube clips that I tried (which were over a dozen).
If you were wondering if I'm persistant... I am!
i have this problem too, there's a way:setting--application--manage applications, then find the youtube app and push the button"clear data".
try it~

Tried it. Didn't work. But it doesn't matter now anyway because whatever the problem was, corrected itself.
Must have been Youtube last night and this morning (2am to 7am PST)
hi
i have an asus p320 and it's sayies "cannot open video" something like that how can i fix this prob.???? can anyone give me a link to the youtube + fix plss??
Ive also had this happen, but always had thought that it was because every youtube fla encoded video might not be available on their mobile site. It seems to happen more often to me if I am trying to play a video that has been uploaded fairly recently...but I gave up on it a while back so havent checked in a while.

well I feel rather stupid now
So I had this problem, and thought the issue was cyanogen. Turns out I was blocking some obscure process with droidwall that is critical for youtube or media player or whatever. I'm afraid I can't say which process it was, because I just went through and enabled everything that remotely looked related to the system.
update
this happens to my g1 with cyanogenmod 4.2.3 all the time. i've cleared caches, rebooted, wiped, etc
repeatable always. random, but repeatable.
any ideas xda ?
Just started today... Every time I try to watch a Youtube video from any of my devices a captcha screen appears on the TV and there is no way to enter the text. I have searched Google for a fix but am coming up empty.
Has anyone else experienced this.. Very annoying.
I have tried a factory reset on the Chromecast, restarted the phone, computer, logged out and in of Youtube..Nothing works.
Thanks in advance of anyone has a fix!

Are you getting the captcha if you play the video on laptop/mobile. What kind of network you are on? If you are in a shared network (office public or college etc) and someone else is abusing youtube you may get the captcha.
There are lots of ways your account/network will get flagged for verification. If you use a computer on the same network to enter the captcha, you might can get it to go away pretty quickly. Usually these things clear up after a day or two.
Yes, mine started several days ago as well. I often get the captcha screen on Youtube when surfing on my computer. However obviously having a keyboard the problem is solved. The other day when Chromecast started showing the screen there was nothing I could do. I tried to stream from my tablet and my phone, but neither showed the captcha screen. Only the TV showed it. This is because Chromecast is seen as it's own device, like a mini computer.
I have been emailing with Google and called the phone number to discuss. What's been more worrisome is that so far I don't feel confident that they understand what I'm talking about. Which seems crazy. My next plan is the next time it does it bad like it did the other day where I had to give up I plan to video it and post on YouTube to send them a link. It's the only thing I can think of for them to get the message.
I also did what was suggested by going to another computer and getting the screen to come up on it's own hoping that if I entered the words it would work. Nope no luck. The captcha wants to know that the particular device is being maned by a human and not just an autonomous device trying to get YouTube hits. So Chromecast is on it's own unless they do a software patch to fix them all to skip the captcha screen.
We shall see

Thanks, I am on my home network. I also get the captcha on the device but it's separate from the one in the Chromecast.
See people here don't quite understand like the people at Google don't understand. The captcha screen is unique to each device that tries to access YouTube. and if you're getting the screen it's because the overall network you are on hits youtube a lot. Perhaps it's because you do a lot of YouTube watching, or it could be because you're on a network with many other people. There's absolutely no way to really solve this issue. This is a bad bad bug that Google overlooked. It should be easy enough for them to solve because you know they see what devices are trying to access YouTube, and you know they know when it's a Chromecast device. So they don't even have to write any update for the Chromecast, they simply need to solve it on the side of the YouTube site that when it sees a Chromecast device it will skip the captcha screen.
Google are you listening?
OK today everything is back to normal.. Very annoying though and I hope Google addresses it..
Thanks for the replies!!

i have searched and read and searched some more and can not come up with anything.
here is my issue, i have a s4a, i have comcast modem with a netgear router, i have streamed pandora on this setup for at least a year or more, occasionally netflix and of course some youtube videos. a few weeks ago i signed up for hulu plus, got a chromecast and went to streaming video from my phone. i watched several shows through the chromcast from my phone as well as a movie on HBOgo. last week sometime something has happened and i can no longer stream anything on my phone, hulu, netflix, hbo, pandora, none of these work, i downloaded cartoon network and it works fine. if i disconnect from my wireless network i can stream all of them, as soon as i connect to wifi "unfortunatly (app) has stopped". i have reset my modem, router, wiped my phone, updated my phone to 4.3, re wiped the phone, and still nothing, as of this moment the only app that i have downloaded on my phone is pandora, and i can not stream when connected to wifi...
if i go anywhere else and connect to their wifi everything works fine... why did my phone all of a sudden stop streaming on my network only?
my wifes iphone works fine with all of the above and connected to the chromecast
any help would be great as i am ready to smash this phone

Nothing comes to mind that wouldn't have been solved by everything you've already done... Maybe you will have to buy a new modem?
Just another random thing that might work... try adding a different Google account to your S4A and downloading the streaming apps through that Google account and see if that solves the issue. I believe that specific Google accounts can be limited by developer's based on an auth code that I think is associated with your Google account. Idk why you might be limited, and it seems extremely coincidental that you would be limited by several different developers/provides at the same time, unless Google is for some reason responsible. Please note that I know little about this particular thing so it's a complete stab in the dark but it just might work.
not sure how or why this worked, but maybe it will help someone in the future.
i decided to scan my available wireless networks in range from my phone again.... (not because i was going to mooch from a neighbor ) and noticed that my neighbor had a network labeled "lastname" and "lastname guest".
that got me thinking and reading about my router, i found out that i could set up a "guest" network as well, set it up, connected my phone and only my phone and everything works again, i have no idea why or what happened but it works for now
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if there's a known reason for it or solution to fix it.
A couple of days ago, my Chromecast quit playing links from Showbox and I can't figure out why. I used to get a show or movie here or there that Avia would say isn't compatible but now it's suddenly showing the error for literally everything I click, even episodes I successfully played a couple of days ago. It's not a shoebox issue because Avia will play the video until I hit the cast button.
Thinking it was my phone or Avia, I tried my wife's phone and Allcast with no success. I also thought maybe a Chromecast OTA broke compatibility, but I'm still on 15250. I even tried a factory rest on the Chromecast and wiping data on the apps involved.
I'm just out of ideas at this point. Anyone know what could be going on?
My wife and I both have Nexus 5's. She's stock and I'm on Paranoid Android.

That app isn't talked about here and a Mod will lock or delete this thread.

Sorry but showbox isn't allowed on xda because it violates copyrights and posting about it may get you and xda in trouble.
Hi there,
in November last year I bought a brand new Google Pixel 5 and I gotta say that I'm quite happy with it, however there's been something quite annoying: sometimes it freezes and reboots itself when I'm using mobile data. I tried to figure out what was causing the issue and why it only happens when I'm using mobile data but I can't really find an answer. If I use WiFi, everything is fine, I can listen to the radio, watch videos on YouTube, have Teams calls, browse the web with Chrome etc, however if I try to do the very same things with mobile data in 4G (there's no 5G coverage in my area) it freezes and then reboots. It doesn't always happen, it seems to be happening randomly and I have no idea why. After rebooting, the app that crashed still has something in memory and if I try to open it without killing it first, it will immediately freeze the phone again and make it reboot again. It happened while I was watching videos on Facebook, it happened while I was watching videos on YouTube, it happened while I was browsing with Chrome, it happened during a Discord call, it happened during a telegram call, it happened while I was checking the NHS COVID-19 app... It can occur after few hours or several times an hour and I don't know what's causing it. Android is a Linux like OS, is there a way to check the journal and see what's happening? And on top of that, is there a way to let Google know and make Android automatically report crashes? The phone is still new, it's not rooted and I've only unlocked the developers options to force the refresh rate to 90Hz but that's it. I reached out to Google and they offered to replace the phone as soon as I send it (RMA) however I would like to find out first whether it's really an hardware problem or if it's Android 11 being unstable. I do have all the OS updates and all the apps are updated. What do you think? Oh last but not least, the SIM ain't an eSIM, it's a physical SIM placed inside the phone.
thank you in advance,
Frank

Have you tried resetting your network in settings? Were you using this same SIM in your old phone with no issues, or was it new? Have you tried to replicate the issue in safe mode to rule out an errant app? If resetting network doesn't work, just back up your data and factory reset the phone. Google may have suggested this already. It's pretty much their automatic response before RMA. Cheers.
Of course I tried to reset my phone and start from scratch but it didn't help. As to the SIM, it has been working fine on my old phone for years so it's not the one causing the issue. Besides, if I disable mobile data but I still use the phone to call other people using the carrier network, it doesn't have any issues at all. As to safe mode, it happened with Chrome and YouTube, standard Google apps, so I can rule out third party apps altogether. It's really weird.
I made a few more tests and it seems to be related to GPU Hardware acceleration. I said that it happened on Facebook, YouTube and Chrome and I thought about the common factor: I was watching videos. It happened while I was on Facebook watching videos, it happened while I was on YouTube watching videos and it happened while I was on Chrome visiting a website which had an ad in which there was a video playing.
Oh and it also happened when I opened the camera 'cause... guess what? Video!
What puzzles me is that it only happens in 4G but not in WiFi and I can't think of any possible reason why it's only occurring with mobile data...
Ok after trying to understand what happened I was finally able to solve the issue and it wasn't an hardware fault nor it was related to video. It was me using IPSec Xauth PSK with Always on VPN turned on. It turns out that using a third party application to connect via Open VPN fixed the issue. It's now more than a week and I've never had a single reboot or freeze or crash. I have no idea why, but all I can say is "stay away from IPSec Xauth PSK" guys, there's something deeply broken there. Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out to be ok.
Cheers,
Frank
