What do you mean? It's perfectly normal that you loose SMS-messages when upgrading the ROM. Updating the ROM is like erasing the harddisk of a computer and re-installing the OS: you'll loose anything that's on the disk.
If you mean that you lost the ability to send SMS-messages: within the settings of the "phone"application (enter the phone application and select menu/options/Services), there's a way to enter the telephone-number of the SMS-central for your provider. When entered, you'll be able to send messages again.

Marc - I meant the SMS option is no longer there. I am using Cingular. I guess that I need to "configure" for SMS specificially? If so, what exactly do I need to do? Thanks.
That's what happens when you don't use a cingular rom

Is there any way to get Palm's threaded messaging to work on the Tilt?
I tried the cab from the Hermes forum, which sorta worked, but it removed "Text Messages" from the main Messaging app. On the home screen, there were two lines that both said "No new text messages", one would bring me to the main Messaging app and one would bring me to the threaded view.
Also, I could not use the dpad to flick between the three. I could only choose "Email" or "MMS".
I was able to uninstall with no issue, but I would really like to see this work.

It does work. The other messaging is for the EMAIL. You should of just left it on and tried to get a txt message.
You got a quick link to the one on Hermes? I had a Palm 750 and kind of liked that feature. Would like to try it on the Tilt.
Found it....

I did leave it on and sent several text messages to myself to enable the threading.
The "Text Messages" option disappeared from "Messaging". They were no longer linked. Messaging ONLY showed MMS, Outlook Email and New E-Mail Account. I would have to leave Messaging to get to the home screen and pick the other text message option.
Once I uninstalled it, "Text Messages" was back in place under Messaging.
If you don't believe me, I can get a few screenshots to show you...
I've installed (on Tilt w/Kaiser ROM) from link above without any problems. Works like a charm!

i had the same result. i rely on the HTC Touch quicklink to get me to the text messaging now. its still better than clicking twice to get where i need to go but you're right it removes it from the messaging page. the hard button also takes me directly to my outlook email box which i dont use either which is unfortunate. like i said i rely on the Touch interface to get me to the txt msging.
fortunately i dont need any of that other crap - just txt messaging.

yes thats how it works!!!! you dont need to have that option there. it makes its own text messaging program. Why do you need it to be there on messaging thats what I dont understand ?
because the other messaging buttons take you there by default -so when the other buttons take you there you're at a dead end.
thats why
So change the buttons in setting --- buttons
I like it.... BUT, I keep getting the "Out of Memory" error when I try to send a pic. I don't know if it happened to others, but my MMS feature along WITH my messaging feature went away when I installed the program. Does anyone know if a fix for this? I NEED the MMS feature to work.

I have my Yahoo mail synced to my phone, but most times when I open the e-mail on my phone, the message isn't there. There's always an option to download the message next time I connect and recieve. How do I set it so my message is there when I open it?

do u use the standart message application? Or some other?
In the mail settings, choose to download the entire message. Most likely, you have it to download something like "Only 2kb" or whatever.

Where are these settings you are talking about. Currently when I open the message, I have to click get full message. Then it says it will download next time I connect and recieve mail. Then I have to click menu and select send/recieve, exit out of my mail, then reopen the message to view the full message.

open the messaging, go to menu(left softkey)/options - there should be listed your sms/mms, .... and also your yahoo account, click on it and there should be a option "download size settings" - is that what u are looking for?
simliar to what he said, go to your inbox > menu > tools > options. click on your yahoo account from the accounts list. then keep clicking next until you get to a screen that shows message format and message download limit. change the limit to entire message and click finish. then do a send/receive again and see if everything shows up now. or send a new test email and see if it shows it all.

That was it. What I was doing before was going into the menu for all message sources (SMS, multimedai, yahoo, gmail, etc) instead of going into the menu specifically for my Yahoo account. Thanks a lot!
One more question, can you set a custom ringtone for text and email messages? I can only find out how to change call ringtones.
yea you can, go into start>settings>personal>sounds and notifications. then in the drop down list find your selection

Yeah, I got that, but none of my custom ringtones are in that list, only stock sounds. Only when I select incoming calls can I change to my my own sounds.
^ o ok, all you need to do is drop your custom sounds into the windows directory and it should appear in the list.

Thanks, got it!
i've been looking for something simliar to this, i made a post about this a while back and got no replies...
But i figured out how to make the phone automatically download all attachments, and i've had the settings on "download entire message" for quite some time, but still whenever i open a email, it blocks the pictures (kinda like what gmail does if anyone has that) then you have to click an icon to "download/display images below" is there anyway to make it so it always opened the email with all the images downloaded and opened? its not the biggest inconvenience but it would still be very useful

OK, now that I got that down, is there a way to stop the ringtone from playing once you read your message? Some of my ringtones are 15-30 seconds and play all the way to the end even after I have read and closed the message.

I think no. There are some threads here with similar questions.
You have to put the sound you want into the windows directory. Or get a 3rd party application like phonealrm to do it.

Is there a way to disable threaded SMS?
Or a program that let you manage your messages the old way?
I can't find this anywhere, hope you guys have a solution.
Why would you want to disable threaded sms? And no there is no way to do it.

I just don't like the way threaded SMS works.
I whan't to be able to manage a message at the time and possibly delete it without deleting the all conversation, just like other phones.
For the iPhone theres an application that does that, i think it's called "iRealSMS" but I'm not sure.
I was hoping in a similar program.
You can delete individual text in the thread just long press on the message you want to delete and select Delete. Right now though there is no app that does single SMS messages.

You realize you are in an android forum?
Is there a way to delete all SMS Messages from phone? Because they just keep clogging up by contact and you can only delete messages from one contact or X number of recipients but not ALL SMS from the touch of a button.
All SMS's at once? No.
All from one contact? Yes. In conversations, press and hold the recipients name, delete. All SMS's from that contact are gone
Or should it be easier than that?
No i mean all SMS from phone like WM6.5, Select All Messages > Delete

No there's no way of doing it exactly like WM 6.5
<hint, hint>
But I personally tend to think WP 7 is way easier.

Yep I think it could be way easier than that - a prime example being the way you can delete emails on WP7 by select checking boxes. When I'm doing a bit of housekeeping on my phone and decide to purge all my SMS messages, I shouldn't have to 'press, hold, delete' for every single conversation. This is the first phone I've ever owned where there wasn't a Delete All / Purge All option for the SMS inbox so I don't think it's really that unreasonable.
For the record however, I loooove almost everything else about WP7 and this is a minor irritation. Can't wait for mango.
