Win7 + Shift - Touch Screen Probs - tried lots of things... - Shift Development

Hi all,
Was just wanting some input on how I can get this touchscreen working in Win7.
I guess it must be a problem with the version of Windows 7 I downloaded, you can see it here:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5043679/Windows_7_Ultimate_AIO_Activated
It's the most popular distribution on TPB so I thought it would be pretty decent..
Any ideas how I can get the touchscreen working without downloading a new windows distribution? I live in a 3rd world country where it's a nightmare to download large files!
I've tried multiple things, clean install, upgrade, installing the EC drivers/touchscreen drivers/chipset drivers in different orders, no luck!
A couple of interesting notes:
- The VGA driver install failes "Could not copy file" on the 2nd file
- When installing the touchscreen drivers, 3 DOS boxes come up with various error messages (one of them looks like TSASS.EXE, could not be found).
I guess I should try this one:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5111645/Microsoft.Windows.7.ULTIMATE.x86.OEM.DVD-BIE
Any input greatly appreciated!
Alex

Well, if you had a legal Windows version, you could try to install all the drivers offered by HTC on their main website, take carre to install them in the correct order.
Then, it is very advisable to install your Windows 7 whilst connected to the internet,
many drivers like video, sd cardbus, your Ethernet USB hub, Builtin camera.... have driver updates straight from Windows Update.
Although it's nice to be honest, some things are rather kept private.
Considering that you only have 2 posts, here's some tips :
1 - always use search function - drill down to the forum you wan to search, then enter something like Touchscreen, Windows 7
2 - Never claim you are doing illegal stuff, even if you aren't doing illegal stuff.
3 - Tell people what you have tried to do to solve your problem, ike :
I opened up my device manager and saw a lot of yellow exlamation marks.
It will help us asses your skills and adapt our answers....

Hey Lucid,
Thanks for your answer...
In response, I must have spent around 3 hours going through all the posts relating to W7 on the Shift.
In conclusion I found a few things:
- There were multiple recommended methods to install the divers, mostly revolving around the order in which to install them. In other words there was no best practice
- A couple of people had similar problems but there didn't seem to be any conclusive result, other than the one guy who ended up going back to Vista
- As for what I've tried:
--- Installing via clean install
--- Installing via upgrade
--- Installing EC drivers first, then touchscreen drivers, & vice versa, on both the upgraded & clean W7 installs
--- Installing chipset drivers first then after on both installs.
No joy!
Is the touchscreen confirmed to work on all builds of W7 or are there some sneeky ones out there that don't work?
What is the latest & greatest version that is confirmed to work?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
If you look at my posts you will see that there is hope for Win7 on shift. I've installed the official version and the touch screen works. The only problem is with Aero on the higher resolution. I did follow the driver installation sequence mentioned elsewhere with compatibility with Vista don't forget, otherwise it will either not install at all or give error messages. Do not cut corners. Be good and follow the instructions. Obey! Now!

Hello my dear Wovens,
In fact, I'm quite sure I read most of your posts at least once, including the ones you made in response to the other guy with touchscreen problems.
I also followed your instructions as best I could, no luck.
Right now I have basically updated Windows Vista completely from Windows Update (last time I didn't do a Windows Update, except for service pack 1), so should I try reinstalling W7? Exactly which version did you use?
Thanks for the help, I thought I was done with the curse of Vista until I got this SHIFT... Dying to get W7 on there!
Bye for now,
Alex

Hi aaazzi,
To answer your question about which version I have in my shift, I first had W7 RC of June/2009 in the shift as an upgrade from Vista and it worked well but now I have W7 Professional (official) but I could not go from the RC to the Pro as an upgrade, I had to do a fresh install because Win would not allow to go from one to the other, maybe because the RC I had was higher than the Pro.

I have tried exactly the same as aaazzi and am getting the same errors. I can get the vga drivers to install by manually installing from device manager, which means I get the correct version. But the EC drivers don't seem to install properly, they certainly don't look the same as the readme included in the folder.
I've made sure that they are installed with compatibility mode (I've now tried all vista versions and XP) no joy. Everything else works, except the touchscreen which is a bit of a show stopper for me even though the device works perfectly on 7 in every other respect.

Don't use the automatic VGA driver (newer) that is found by Win7. Go to device manager and force install the one listed in the HTC website. Just do it! Then install the EC drivers and after that THE TOUCH driver!

yep done that, I'm currently using the 7.14.10.1461 drivers, I installed the EC drivers which appear as HTC Embedded Controller and the touchscreen drivers which unpacks into a temp folder and says it's installed from there. (I have also tried going into the temp folder it extracted to and setting the compatibility and admin settings to the correct values)
No matter what I do I can't get the drivers to appear in device manager, I don't know if this is because the EC driver I get has a different name to the one specified in the included readme.
In the readme it's saying to look for HTC Clio EC Controller V0.0.1.1
I get HTC Embedded Controller
I assumed that the readme is from an earlier version of the drivers especially as it's using an RC version of Vista but that could be it, what is the driver called on your version?

I've got an HTC Embedded Controller 1.0.1.10 of 13/03/2008.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I think I'll wait for the release version on 7. Might try to install Linux in the meantime, at least I can control what it's doing a bit better.

Unable to flash under vista x64

Hi, i've read the "How to" from this URL http://trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=66 but with no success.
Device Manager shows an error code 39.
I just don't understand, i followed everything without errors from the start.
what can i do now ? i want to reflash my radio rom from 1.50.08.11 to 1.46.30.11. My battery was draining slower with that one.
Thanks !
first of all, it helps if you post this under the thread for trinityguides...
you had your device in bootloader and connected before step 2?
are you vista 32 or 64?
it's quite strange cause most people had success with these steps. How have you flashed your ROM in the past?
same for me. the reason is that vista isnt able to install the drivers when the bootloader start.
vista 64bit only works with signed by ms driver be that videocard drivers or pda drivers
if you ask me 64bit is not yet for primetime
drivers are few and limited
support for many external things are non
funny to see how pc entuthieasts pay that much for
vista ultimate when the only thing they get is the 64bit option
and backup and some crypting options which if they ever use
they'll cry salty tears when they have to reinstall and cant
get access to their data anymore
ultimate dont mean it's faster or better
just that one gets the full ms bloatware packet
yeah... the guide shows how to load the unsigned drivers though...
are the two of you running 64 or 32bit vista?
his title "Unable to flash under vista x64"
the x64 would sugest that he's using the 64bit version
mmm... you are observant haha... can't believe i missed it
Same problem here, did what was written in the trinityguide (twice now), but to no avail. Code260 (no connection)
Vista64
-EDIT-
Fortunately my laptop runs on vista32bit, update works like a charm on that one...
hmmm... this is getting strange...
so you followed the 64bit instructions for unsigned driver that are in the popup window? (on trinityguides)

Yep, every step, including the unsigned driver stuff (have used that for other programs too, it worked before). Did it twice, no error messages apart from the error260 while trying to update the device.
There must be people who do manage to get it to work, but not me (on the 64bit vista)
yeah, i'm really sorry to hear that. Most people have been successful. Every once in a while, someone reports that they have had trouble with it, but i don't have vista x64 to troubleshoot.
i remember reading in another forum about someone with the same error saying that some kind of optimization option he had selected for vista was the culprit. I think he ended up reinstalling vista with default options and was ok..
(i know that's not really the answer you're looking for, but just thought i'd throw it in there )
hey i was just thinking...
do you want to see if any of these other methods of disabling driver signing work for you, listed in this post
it works under vista x64
If you enable automatic update in vista x64, and you plug in your trinity, after a few minutes a update will appear from microsoft asking that there is a update for your trinity, install it and my phone works and was able to flash new roms on it with this update....i have windows vista ultimate x64 edition...
great tip... the_stranger or simkard, can you try this and verify if it works? i'm sure a lot of vista x64 users would be thankful to know
forgot somthing
if you have updated the drivers from microsoft, put your trinity in bootloader and then in "device management" select your trinity and select update drivers...if not your not able to flash.....

HTC USB Remote Stopped Working

Just got on a plane and found out that the WM 6.1 update seems to have killed my HTC remote control for controlling Audio Manager or Windows Media.
It's one of these: http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=1067.
Anyone else run into this? Theres posts on installing the audio driver for other phones, but I don't find one for the Kaiser floating around out there.
There is an updated remote control driver for WM6.1. It can be donwloaded from HTC e-club.
Ah. For anyone that's also looking, it's not on the HTC US site. You have to hit the HTC Europe page and then it will show up.
Interesting. I grabbed the driver and ran the install and the app tells me I have the latest version installed. Won't overwrite or let me reinstall.
Anyone else having this issue? The control still isn't working and I can't tell what the cab files are looking to overwrite to force the install through.
Same issue after new HTC rom update
Any solution ?

Instal the WM 6.1 compatible driver from HTCs website off the bat or if the old version is installed first, hard reset and then install just the latest driver. Why anyone would want the current HTC official WM 6.1 'upgrade' (at least a WWE version) is an important question.
hi Flying Kiwi, I guess the main reason of the upgrade is bug fixing which I guess now is solving some adding others
I'm a new HTC user more used to symbian devices before.
The nokia updates are always good, so I thought it was the same for HTC.
I guess I was wrong.
I followed many times the installation procedure, but I always get the same result :
- Drivers already existing on the PC
- GetDeviceInfo.exe error on the Touch pro.
I guess the GetDeviceInfo error is the source of the pb. Maybe a pb with the ROM itself.
Thanks

Sorry I don't have one of these remote devices to test with - I just assumed (and we know what that results in) that from gauntman's post there was a WM 6.1 compatible driver but all I've been able to find is a very elderly cab (after renaming the file to have a zip extension) - gauntman please point us to a new version that does work if you know of it.
IF you have a stock ROM/Radio/SPL and the remote isn't working and installing the driver doesn't fix it or results in an error installation then my suggestion is to try the headphones that come with the remote and ensure they're fully plugged in. If that still doesn't work then it's time to contact HTC!
I tried this updated version found Here,
But the problem described is the one described.
Is there anyway to uninstall a driver without rebuilding the ROM ?
Sorry for the newbie question, but just an idea.
Maybe I should go for a stable cooked ROM and install the drivers on it.
But if not working i will cry lol

That's the one I was referring to, maybe gauntman knows of something newer.... In the meantime have you tried what I suggested ie restoring it to a stock HTC state and testing again with the headphones that came with the remote fully plugged in? If that doesn't work then it's fair and square a HTC issue to resolve.
Thanks I really appreciate your feedback.
Yes I actually did a hard reset.
The stock headphone is working fine.
So far the RC E100 has no sound problem, just the button issues.
I guess not a mini usb issue, but really a driver pb.
I contacted HTC about the last ROM and their accessory, let's see if the reputation of their technical support is as good as their product
Thanks
Michael

Stuck with Vista

I cannot get any thing to work with Windows Vista. I never had problems with XP and my other Wizard. I had it replaced through the insurance. Please help me. I have been through the threads claiming to have some way of tricking Vista with old drivers. I have installed them and had no change. Read all the threads!!
So Dont do it!!!
Man some versions work some doesnt... TRY XP men if you dont have problems since your first Wizard and xp use.
Dont be in panic mode, is not prooved even if many thread said that.
I'm just pissed, i had a great ROM running on my old phone. now i am stuck with a computer running Vista Ultimate and Mobile 5 on he replacement phone. I was hoping somebody found a way to run these Roms through Vista successfully.
Vista support for Windows Mobile is really hit and miss, it works for some, and not at all for others....your best bet is finding a friend with XP and upgrading it there.
Not G4 specific, moved > Upgrading
i use vmware with an xp image to mod my phone, i run vista x64.
Upgrade vista with all available service packs then download the latest version of WMDC from microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx#download
and try flashing then
If you still have problems try replacing the ruuupgrade files with Muns ones and use these to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52404&d=1190997171
if that doesnt work then you havent done what i just said

I cannot flash my Wizard now that I have Vista 64-bit. I have followed many different methods that I have found on XDA in the last few days. I've downloaded and ran many different RUU tools, nothing gets me past the RUU crashing.
The one problem that I get hung up on is while installing a new driver for the Pocket PC (wceusbshx64.inf) in device manager I get the error message that the driver is not signed, I click next anyways. I then get the following message "The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".
Any other ideas? I'm having flashing withdrawals.............
Thank you for your help
Anyone that knows away to get around the above problems? Luckily I still have my XP computer upstairs, so I can still flash new roms. But I would like to keep it all on one computer (Vista)
Thanks

Messed up BIOS? Devices not correctly installed in WIN 7!

Hi guys!
I have a big problem. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 on my Shift 9500 according to this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590009
Everything went smooth and I got everything to work except the 2 buttons above the mousepad. I tried everything but I could not get them to work.
I did also update my BIOS to be able to install the BIOS activation according to this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542397
After that I decided to re-install everything and start from the beginning. Then the problems started. When I install the graphics driver, Im not able to get a higher resolution higher then 800x640 or 640x480!! Im have tried everything, with Aero, without Aero, load another driver but nothing works!!
Everything else is OK, mousepad, touchscreen etc...
I have a feeling that the BIOS is screwed?? When I check in devicemanager I have a feeling that there are some new names in it, like the BIOS would not present the correct devices for the operating system.
Is there anyone who might have a solution? I have tried to update the BIOS with the HTC Stock BIOS but is says its the same version I already have installed.
Is there anyone who can provide me with a new stock BIOS? (EU version, swedish keyboard)
Many thanks in advance!
/ Andreas
Did u backed up ur old bios? It seems ur device is flashed with unofficial bios which is too risky for different version of machine. my suggestion is reinstall win7, install all drivers in correct order with vista compatibility except vga driver which u need to get an updated one from intel site. use windows update driver with coutious (make sure system protection is on before updating driver using windows update especially the camera driver). there are lot more ways to get full activated win7 other than flashing bios.
[edit] : we still have pof or cmonex for hope

[Q] Massive HTC+Sprint+Microsoft Conspiracy

Okay - I admit it's been a while since I programmed anything, but the desire to root my HTC Hero (Sprint) has brought me back into the game.
Thanks to the recent patch from HTC/Sprint (I have the 2.32.651.2 build#), I can't do a simple root using Androot or Unrevoked or z4root, etc.
Plus, since I have Win7(x64), I have serious difficulties reverting my phone back to a previous issue (the lovely USB error issue that comes up with the RUU flash). I tried replacing the driver and no luck.
So - I tried going the more fun, extended route, using SDK. Now - even though I have the latest version of JDK - the SDK installer is not recognizing JDK on my system. I've searched through the Android developers forum and even Google admits it shouldn't be that difficult and they'll work on addressing it in an upcoming release.
WTF?!
I'm starting to think I might have to venture into the bowels of my garage and dust off the old XP box... I'd rather avoid doing that, so any assistance y'all can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Why not make a backup of everything, Wipe your whole system. Flash with a Rooted Stock ROM and restore backup. Then you have a good new phone...
ARGH! Can't anyone read?
Can't u hunt down old version of sdk?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
There are plenty of sources to get a free copy of microsoft's virtual machine software. I want to say you can get VM 2007 for free directly from microsoft, but it's been a while since I've looked into it. Could do a VM and have it run XP, if you have a legit key there should be no problem.
no... school is for fools!!!
sorry bud about your luck... if it makes you feel any better, forced to use an old XP to update my dad's HTC Wizard from WM 5 to WM 6.5... that's not happening!
although, now that I think about it, this was the wizard forum's suggestion, use the XP Virutalization in Win7... it didn't work for me, but you could give it a shot!

Beat me to it, ugh, can't type as fast after my surgery. Yes, VM 2007 is free, you also have to download XP mode to make it emulate XP. There's a MS website that gives you the three steps, all free downloads. Just make sure your copy of Win is authentic... whoops on my part. The internet is amazing!
Right click on the RUU.exe and run as an adminstrator. Some have also run it in WinXP SP3 compatability mode. It's been a while but when the phone reboots and you get the blank screen followed by the USB error, disonnect the USB cable from the phone for about 5 seconds. Plug it back in and you should get the white screen with 3 androids at the bottom. Close the RUU and reun it again. It should recognize the phone and update.
I remember it being very frustrating but it did finally work. Good luck.
This isn't really the place for this, but these questions have already been covered, many many times..
Rooting instructions. I know this works on the latest official sprint, because I've done it successfully.
As far as not being able to RUU, some people have an issue running the RUU if they haven't ran HTC Sync. Try that and see if it works, and if not, follow this method.
HERCIMG-2.31.651.7.ZIP download it. it's the Sprint 2.31.651.7 executable but in signed zip format, for people who aren't running windows. Not sure who actually converted the executable to a signed zip, but props to you for helping those that can't run the regular RUU.
Rename the file to HERCIMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card.
Power the phone off.
Press and hold your Volume Down button, and while still holding it press the power button to power your phone back up into HBoot mode.
HBoot should then automatically verify the zip file, and ask you if you would like
to flash it. Press your trackball to confirm the update (downgrade in this case),
or press your send button to cancel.
Once on 651.7 you would root as normal, but you should not have to RUU back to 651.7 just to root.

I know I had a version of Microsoft VM on Vista, but it seems under Windows 7 it will only work for the top end (professional/Enterprise/Ultimate)? Home premium and basic versions will not run VM.
Microsoft also (for those running pro/enterprise/ultimate) offers "Windows XP Mode" for free, if your system passes WGA. just google windows xp mode and it should pop up to the microsoft site that lets you download all of the required files.
I installed it on my laptop and desktop, and it runs fine on both. (Better on the laptop, actually).

This might help with your driver issues
So where is the ROM or ROM development?
@moxlon - I just have "Premium" and honestly not sure if I need to fork over another $200 to microsoft. Tried the HERCIMG, but it just says there is "no img or wrong img". Any ideas?
to the rest of you - thanks for tolerating my ineptitude.
Same issue
I had the same issues when I tried to run the RUU and revert. Basically I had to download the HTC sync first and let it do its thing with the drivers and such. Then I went back in and ran the RUU, it got to a point where it was stuck, I forget exactly which point, but you will know. I unplugged the phone from the computer and closed down the RUU and reran it and it went through. Its kinda weird, but will work. I am also running Windows 7 x64...
Try this. Runs on my Win7 machine and on the latest update. I know because I have done it several times. Extract to SDK tools folder, right click app (it will be red), and run as admin.
New SDK on Win7 x64
As big a pain as it can be. Simply install the 32 bit version of JDK and it'll find it just fine.

This is what I had to do, too. I'm running Win7 x64. Each time I would run the Sprint RUU 2.27.651.5, it would get stuck and error out on when the phone reboots to the bootloader. Once that happens, leave the phone alone, but unplug it from the computer, plug it back in and re-run the RUU. It works.
I've done that twice to my phone in the past week.
Wow, wish I found this before LOL
Just posted this a few min ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9964489#post9964489
Maybe change the title so people can find this that are having RUU issues? I only clicked because I was like conspiracy? I'd love to read this one LOL
I didn't search today because I didn't think there would be anything new from days ago when I was trying to run RUU since it's just the Hero lol
Wow forget the RUU, thanks for the zip file to flash! I found one before but was like eh.... doesn't sound as official.
