anyone experiencing corrupted photo saving?
i'm using swiftbl 6.0 full, camera set to 3mpix, best photo quality and saving into internal storage - almost all of photos taken are corrupted - right after taking the shot, quick preview shows perfect photo, thumbnails in album are also ok.
but when viewing the picture on the phone in fullscreen, lots of pictures are just plain black or plain white or full of jpeg compression artifacts. when viewing on pc, some kind of compression error is visible in top left corner. photoshop refuses to open some of them because of error.
is this behaviour common? is it due to not-official rom or all diamonds do this? or are the files corrupted because of saving to internal memory? quick preview looks great, so the problem is in saving the files. how to fix that?
sample bad photos:
http://ace.cnx.cz/diamond/200808261813_002.jpg
this should be daylight photo. due to some error it is almost completely black. quick preview was ok, thumbnail is ok.
http://ace.cnx.cz/diamond/200808311203_035.jpg
almost ok, but notice 16px column of bad data on the left
http://ace.cnx.cz/diamond/200808311236_041.jpg
photoshop refuses to open this one, acdsee shows only broken artifacts, in browser note the bad data in top left corner
thanks for any advice
no mas to nake pokurvene nastesti jsem nic podobne nezaznamenal...jediny problem je ze nekdy fotky koduje na vysku ikdyz byli focene podelne...
thanks, but i need to solve this, not to cry that it's f**ked up. i've tried to change saving location to main memory, but corruption is still present...
Procedure To Edit The Internet Globe Button Manila Files
(No more solid white blank buttons)
7d3f1247_manila - Globe Unselected
3f00cd2f_manila - Globe Selected
What:
With this procedure you will be able to select any graphics or highlight color you want to use for both the selected and non selected states of the Internet globe button.
How:
There are no special tools required other than Manila Editor 0.2 and a graphics program that can work with png files. You will need to know how to use both of these programs though.
Advantages:
The biggest advantage over editing either 27c65cbd_manila or InternetPortal-en-US.xml would have to be speed. When I tried that way on my Fuze it would take well over 5 seconds to load every time I scrolled to the Internet tab. Sometimes almost double that on a fresh boot. Second advantage would be that this *should* work on any device that uses those 2 files, where the xml edits are different files for different devices. Which leads to the third advantage of not needing special install instructions for theme makers. Edit the manilas and drop them in with the rest.
Other Info:
(Just skip this part if you don't care about the why and scroll down to the instructions.)
I have literally scoured these forums and the Internet for days trying to find information on editing not only the Internet globe manila files, but the other 7+ files that just don't work right with Manila Editor. Most theme makers know of these files. Mostly what I found was a lack of information and more questions than answers. The only other procedure I could find at all for converting manila files gives better results than using Manila Editor but it's very complex for the average user requiring command line tools. Even so the author, (Chainfire) has written a damn near fool proof tutorial so if anyone is interested you can find the thread HERE. Unfortunately even that procedure would not handle the problem manila files properly and quits with the following message.
Reading file: 5c01b59c_manila
Error: file is not QTC format
For reference, this is the list of files that I know of at the moment with this problem, and all return the same error except for 7d3f1247_manila. (More on this file to come.)

The first oddity I noticed when using Manila Editor on the Globe file (3f00cd2f_manila) is no mater what size my graphic was before running it through, it always came out to be approximately 125k. Since the stock file was roughly half that size I knew something was really wrong. The other glaring anomly with most of the files is they show up as duplicated (side by side) images when viewed with M.E. so I figured that somehow all of this must be connected.
I am not a programmer by any stretch but I know just enough to get me into trouble most of the time. Anyway I loaded both files into Notepad++ and turned on hex view to see what was so different. The header of both files were similar but not exactly the same so I copied chunks of the problem file from below its header and pasted it into the good manila at the same address location. What it produced was a repeating pattern on the top left corner of the stock green button but every other row was white. I don't know why but the fact that the image repeats in M.E. as well and the file being double the size made me think to cut the image in half and try to see if M.E. would accept it. It did and I was elated to finally see an image on my phone other than than the big white rectangle.
I had an image that was really distorted but it wasn't difficult at this point to see what was going on by the way it was distorted. I was able to get a perfect button on my next try by creating my image on a 256x128 canvas and then scaling it to 512x128. It looks really bad and stretched out at this point but after processing with M.E., the phone will compress back to it's original aspect and it looks just perfect. I use The Gimp as my image editor and just save as a png file with the default settings.
Now that I Finally had a working selected globe image I wanted to change the static globe as well. (7d3f1247_manila) This was a whole new battle but at least I had something to work from this time. There are some significant differences in this file compared to the selected globe. First, it looks perfect when you extract it using M.E. which led me to believe that this would be easy. I couldn't find much info on this particular manila and I think I know the reason why. Either people are replacing both images via the xml workaround, or they are just concerned with getting the highlight the right color on the selected image. Either way, when I tried to do a 1:1 replace in M.E I got to see the wonderful white rectangle again. At this point I had finally gotten all the tools working from the post I mentioned before and decided to try this file using that procedure as it should return better results if it did work. It worked perfectly but I still wanted to get it to work using M.E as most people are not going bother with a long drawn out procedure.
After playing around some I found that if I scaled the 512x256 image to 256x256 it worked perfectly. The up side is the file size is half of the stock image. The down side is the resolution is obviously cut in half. It's really not a show stopper but using the other method does produce perfect results. Not completely satisfied yet I tried some more images at different resolutions to see what happened. The 480x240 image I had from one of the globe mods that are floating around produced a white rectangle. I then decided to try another unscaled image that was almost completely transparent and it worked without a hitch. Now that I was completely confused I went back and tried the original 512x256 that produced the white and it did so again. It wasn't until I switched to another tab and back again that it finally showed up correctly.
So what does it all mean? Hell if I know but at least the scaled 256x256 method seems to work every time without any problems and its fast to boot. The long procedure would be the best method of them all but probably not worth the effort for most. As far as the other problem files go I guess I'll try and work them out too unless someone else more capable picks up the ball and runs with it. The selected globe was the particular image that stuck in my craw and got me started on this.
Instructions for 3f00cd2f_manila - Globe Selected:
1. Create your image at a size of 256 x 128 exactly how you want it to look on your device.
2. Scale it to a size of 512 x 128 and save it. You will have to "unlock" the aspect ratio lock in most graphics programs. This will distort your image badly but do not fret. Yet.
3. Fire up Manila Editor as usual and use your new image. Now you can fret as you wait to see if this works or not.
4. <-- I hope
Instructions for 7d3f1247_manila - Globe Unselected:
1. Create your image at a size of 512 x 256 exactly how you want it to look on your device.
2. Scale it to a size of 256 x 256 and save it. You will have to "unlock" the aspect ratio lock in most graphics programs.
3. Fire up Manila Editor as usual and use your new image.
General Notes:
If you don't want to mess with any of this and like what's in the screen-shots attached, you can install the cab or just unpack the zip into your windows directory on your device. As always, please back up your files before adding new software.
Notes concerning 7d3f1247_manila:
This procedure *should* work if done as stated. If you use the alternate method I linked to in the info section above you don't have to scale the image and will get a higher resolution image. I have successfully used a non scaled image before with Manila Editor but it goes white on first load after a reboot then somehow clears up. With the scaling method I've yet to see the dreaded white rectangle. Read the info section for more information.

*Disclaimer*:
Obviously I can't test this on every device but I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't work on any TF3D enabled device. If this doesn't work for you, feel free to post here or contact your congressman. (Where applicable) If this helps anyone please be sure to drop in and say hi.
There is some real development going on about this subject over on the pixel perfect thread. If you are just looking for a quick fix then what I posted above is still relevant but you might want to keep an eye out for a *real* fix as I doubt it will take them long once they sink their teeth into it.
I believe they already figured out that you can patch the header on the problem files to correct the payload size which should work also. If you are not so technically inclined then the method posted here still works flawlessly for me and should for you as well.
I've added a picture that might help if the directions above were confusing at all, so it might help clear it up. You can find the link to the Pixel Perfect thread right above this post.

I'm sure others have come across this...
My carrier's limit on sending MMS is ~300KB. Our 3.2mp pictures are much larger. That and most people I want to send MMS's to don't have a 300 by whatever + resolution screen on their phone.....
So I'm looking for a simple, easy to use, app that will just resize images for me. I know the MMS software in most ROM's will auto-convert them to some sizes, but I'd rather just save the images at that size to begin with... and send that smaller file myself (also good for uploading to ftp servers to share via e-mail to other mobile devices)
I did some browsing, and i saw maybe some versions of HTC Album do resizes... but I'm not really looking to update that yet... most other google searches around 'pocket pc paint' or 'wm6 image resize' end up with themes and the like -- I need an on-phone solution.. I don't want to be tied to a computer to resize an image!
searches:
http://www.google.com/search?q=wm6+...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...ficial&hs=aGH&q=wm6+resize+photos&btnG=Search
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...ficial&hs=7vb&q=ppc+resize+photos&btnG=Search -- came up with some results, but I've never haerd of a lot of these solutions, any feedback?
hmm, did you want the original picture to be 3.2 MP? If not, then just take the picture at a lower resolution?
Other than that, although I have not played around with it, an app called Photogenics may be able to do it. Keep in mind though, it's not freeware.
Resco Photo allows you to downsize photos. You can select what pixel size you want, or type in a percentage. Its does a lot more stuff too, its not free though.
I have AT&T and they limit mms to 600k. Is that your carrier as well?

I like taking high-quality pictures in case I want to share them by e-mail / upload them, or save them for later use as something..
But I also want to resize them for friends when i send it to phones. and at&t requires it to be smaller in size to send via MMS... as another poster mentioned.
Cropping would also be nice... I was mainly looking for a free solution, but If i gotta pay I gotta pay.. I prefer donating to developers here over paying for product from companies though.
The authors of XnView (a freeware ACDSee clone) have recently published a version for PocketPCs and Windows Mobile Smartphones. It works very well on my Touch Pro. Allows retouching, resizing, modifying colorspace, batch conversion to many formats and more.

Photo Resizer
» PhotoResizer v1.0 Description
With PhotoResize you can copy and resize JPG images from a folder to another selecting the quality and output size of target image.
This tool is useful when you want to copy your photo from your camera to your PDA and show them at your friends using a PDA as photo album. (As I usally do)
The main problem is that every single image done with your camera (depend wich camera you use) is usually several megabytes and if you simple copy photo from camera in few time you will finish the memory available on your PDA.
With this tool you can reduce the space on each photo resing it to the dimension of your PDA screen (usally 320x240, 320x640, or 640x480). In this manner the dimension of files are drastically reduced and you can show images directly from PDA. During the conversion phase a progress bar will show you the percentage of work, if during conversion will be found an image with dimension less then the output size, that image will be skipped.
Funcionalities:
* Select source folder and destination folder graphically
* Choose target size of images
* Choose quality (default is 75%)
* Choose if you want to see the thumbnail during the process (this option can be time comsuming)

Good day to all:
In the last few days (3 to 4) I have been having problems in viewing picture from the web browser. It may sound weird, but, before I could search any picture on Google, click on the picture and then click on the tab that said view full size, and what would you know, it would let me see the picture in full size. Now when I click on the tab that says to view full size, the picture stays the same size, when I tried to download the picture instead of downloading the full bits of information, it would only give me partial information. For example, go to Google and search trucks (image) the first truck picture would be two trucks sculpture forming an “S”, the picture, click on it, you will see that the picture is 64k, now in the bottom right it would say “View full size”, click on it, now you got only the picture, on the menu tab click “resize image”, now you will see that the image stays the same but with more white around the picture.
Now, here is one that it will bit you but, if I sync my phone to the computer and do the same procedures, the picture will grow larger to its full size. If I use a Wi-Fi connection to access the internet this also happens (Get the full size in the picture).
I have done a soft reboot and a hard reboot, check my User Agent that came default on my phone, changed it to a HTC-8900 User Agent from the HTC-TyT II setting by way if the “Kaiser Tweak”, called AT&T for help (They got ?????).
I am running on my cell phone OS 5.2.19214 (Build 19214.1.0.4)
Please HELP!!!
Love Windows Phone 7, don't really love the hardware quality of the HD7. There are a few software issue that I am hoping are user fixable and not something I have to wait for an update to address.
1. Search button behavior in Internet Explorer - it irritates me immensely that when you hit the search button on the HD7, it brings up the Google desktop website. Similarly if you enter text in the address bar it searches Google, not Bing. If I wanted to use Google, I'd have kept my Android device. Is there a way to change this yet, and set the T-Mobile USA HD7 to default to the Bing app and not the Google website? Its especially annoying because the results bring you to mobile formatted pages.
2. This is more of a complaint than a fixable issue until copy and paste comes, but I have noticed that the text type recognition doesn't work all the time. In some places if I click an address it goes to Bing Maps but other times it does nothing, it looks like it highlights the word I touch. I haven't been able to find any pattern in which sites work and which don't, but its frustrating.
3. Sometimes when I get a text message the notification sound plays all choppy. It does seem to happen only where service is bad. Is there a fix for this?
4. Office and Skydrive. Maybe I am just retarded but I feel like there should be a way to access my Office files online, specifically through SkyDrive since I can save to it from Office on the computer. Do I have to have a Sharepoint server to do this? Can I really not access my SkyDrive files?
If I remember more I will post.
Also, is there an ETA for Flash?
I have been playing with the skydrive and I added a few files to it to try and see if I could open them on the HD7. The thing is I can open them but have yet to figure out how to open them with Word on the HD7 so that I can edit them and save them back to the skydrive(copy & paste would be nice...meh...soon I hope). But I opened IE and logged into my Windows Live account and I can open anything I have saved on the skydrive, PDFs, word files, excel sheets, ppt presentation, pictures, etc. Now the only issue is editing those files, I haven't tried sending files Word, Excel, etc. to the skydrive and trying to open them on my PC. Will update later with results of further tinkering.
My issues with HD7
Like many people I love this phone but coming from Windows Mobile 6.5 and donw (isn't that weird to say), this phone is really lacking.
1) The Zune software is crap for lack of a better word. No Smart DJ; No Artist photos; no random track play etc. These are not deal breakers but if you came from the Zune HD like me then you'll feel let down.
2) Font Size. It might just be me, but not being able to set a minimal font size is ridiculous. I use the word ridiculous because even my first pocket Pc phone edition in 2001 allowed font resize.
3) No ability to sync my desktop mobile favs. Yes! I know of the work around but wasn't the point of the new OS to avoid all that crap.
4) I want to be able to sync with my local address book. This whole facebook and windows live thing . . . .Look at it this way, if your contacts are based through FB then if one of those contacts cancels their FB acct then you automatically loose all that data. Of course this is not a MS thing.
4) With my HD2 and HTC Sense, I was used to seeing ALL my FB contact photos. Again not an MS thing but . . . .
5) This is really more of a gripe than anything but the battery icon doesn't tell much. How come I can't see exactly how much juice I have left.
6) Unified Inbox, flash, cut and paste. These are all things MS was kind enough to make us aware off so they get a pass on those.

1. Apparently carriers can change the search engine within Internet Explorer, and we can't do anything about it. Once someone gets access to editing the registry, maybe we will be able to change that. BUT I do have some help for you: Search something in Google, and then scroll down to the bottom, find the "Settings" link. Then you can change it to NOT format sites for mobile phones. That should make the experience better!
2. Addresses have to be in a certain format: #### N Street Rd, Zip Code. Like this address, 6362 N Calle Campeche, 85750. If it doesn't have the zip code after the street, it sadly doesn't recognize it. Hopefully they fix that, it's a great feature otherwise.
3. Idk, never had that happen.
4. You can access your Skydrive files and download them to your phone by going to the SkyDrive website (they have a mobile version), but you can't upload any documents from your phone or upload the changes you make in a doc you download. It has been rumored that SkyDrive integration will be implemented at some point.

1. Yeah, I miss SmartDJ too. I never looked at an artist's pictures however. Their picture does load as a background image, but I know that's not what you're referring to. By random track playing, you mean Shuffle? In the now playing screen, tap on the album art, and then click the shuffle icon.
2. Font size depends on the user of course. I'm good with it as it is, but they should have made an option to change it. Maybe a future update.
3. Eh yeah. I don't use favorites honestly
4. You mean how the HTC Album app in WinMo could access all of your friends online Facebook photo albums, right from their contact card? Yeah I loveeeed that in HTC Sense. I was really disappointed when my WP7 didn't have something like that.
4.2. Umm, if a friend cancels their Facebook account, you don't loose anything that you stored yourself. Just add a contact's info into your Windows Live contacts, it will never disappear.
5. Maybe someone will write a battery percentage app. Idk.
6. I personally can't wait for copy/paste!
7. Microsoft made it decetly clear months ago that there wouldn't be a file explorer.
Thanks for the tips, and I'm really hoping someone figures out how to change the search option. It's annoying when my bosses WP7 (HTC Surround) pulls up the bing app in IE, and mine goes to the Google site. You can remove all carrier and manufacture apps (1 step forward) but can't choose your default internet search while your carrier can (2 steps back.)
Hardware wise, the issues I have are these:
After a couple days, the back and battery color have some discoloration. I don't have particularly dirty or clammy hands, so I don't know why this is. It weirdly also doesn't look like where my fingers actually are, so maybe it's heat related. I've seen similar issues on the Touch Pro and the G2. I think it has something to do with the soft touch material.
There is also a gap between the two pieces of the battery cover. This I have seen on literally every unit I've touched. Mine, my boyfriends, the demo unit at T-Mobile, and the ones at Best Buy.
Likewise, if you press search a little hard, you see like a ripple in the bottom right hand corner. This also was on every device I played with, so it's a general thing.
These things, for me at least, aren't deal breakers, but they are annoying, especially compared to the absolutely astounding build quality of the HD2.
...
anyway.
All of this stuff aside, I must say, my actual general usage experience with the device (again, more WP7 than the HD7 specifically) has been honestly, wonderful.
I've found that in my experience, true to Microsoft's goal, everything just works, and works quickly. Coming from Android (recently, after the HD2 I just couldn't deal with WM6.5) and having had every phone in between (iPhone, Palm Pre, a crap ton of Android phones, even a Symbian phone) I must say that I have had the fewest problems, and most fluid experience of all, on WP7. General usage stuff like calls, texts, e-mail, web browsing, social networking etc. are all just super fast and efficient (with maybe the only exception being Facebook's annoying load time, but its not horribly necessary with the "what's new" section in People. Also, despite some issues (like it taking me a week to realize you can click on the song list under now playing) the media and gaming is hands down the best I've had on a phone.
Ugh, is the T-Mobile HD7 locked into Google?
I thought the whole idea of the Search button was to get quick access to the Bing Search Application. Is this so or is it only the search in IE?
Hoping they'll add a way to change that ASAP.

The T-Mobile US variant of the HD7 works like this, in all places other than a) Internet Explorer or b) app that override the search button (like contacts) when you press the search key it bring up Bing. When in IE, it goes to google.com. When in an app with an override, it searches within that app.

About your part B... that's how the search button is supposed to work, Windows Phone was designed like that. The T-Mobile USA HD7 is only different than other phones in part A.
as a few more days have passed, I also noticed that sometimes the Marketplace will lock up. The phone doesn't, I can still go back to the start screen, use all other apps etc, but when I go into Marketplace again it says loading and then goes back into to start unless I restart the device. Not a big deal, not too common, but still a bug. I think its related to the small freezes while browsing apps when it's loading the icons.
To clarify, you can upload and save your changes to SkyDrive. Simply tap down at the application settings and select synchronize. That will sync any changes with SkyDrive.
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Edit: it just works with OneNote.
But I think if you download excel doc from SkyDrive and make changes it will sync with SkyDrive?

Yep, that's a problem with just about everyone that has an HTC phone. I'm not sure if it affects Samsung and LG too, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does too.
