I have decided to buy the HTC Diamond and the only thing that worries me is that this phone could be too slow (going by the various reviews on the web). I am very new to this forum and will appreciate all your feedback and advice. I am using Glofiish X500 at present (OS is WM 5.0). My usage is very much limited to internet, e-mail, text mesaging, calendar and of course making phone calls!! I am not a huge photo / video user though I have a fairly decent collection of MP3 and WMA files that I would love to listen to on my new Diamond. Also, I have a very large address book. How will I transfer my complete address book from my old Glofiish to Diamond? I assume I have to take back up of my old phone and restore this back up on my new Diamond. Am I correct here??

Syn Glofish with Outlook on your pc.
Get your diamond.. Sync diamond with your outlook..
done.
1.9.3 firmware is fast...
The phone being slow... depends on what ROM you are using. There are plenty of cooked roms available on the forum to choose from. You can find them in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=430
if you don't want to use another rom, there are plenty of tweaks available to improve performance on your diamond. You can find these - at the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265
Get your diamond. if you have any problems with the speed, use another rom or try the tweaks.
Thanks LordRaj and Steffan for your advice.
No , it can fly

Let's put it in this way, the device itself is very fast. Each cooked ROM is trying to optimize memory usage by finding balance between freeing resources and using additional software.
Now IF you flash the lite ROM version with minimal additional software the phone will fly.
BTW the main memory eater is nice and new Diamond 3D interface (I'm personally preferring SPB interface for speed and usability, but this is personal choice)
Cheers
Very fast
Last night i loaded the 1.93.405.1 ROM from the HTC Site and now it flies through the contacts. Make sure you dont leave all your apps running in the background this will slow it down Start - Settings - Task manager and close the ones you dont want open
Hope this helps

Any chance to cook a WM 6.5 WWE version with Chinese support and TD2 Chinese Input?
I am using 6.5 WWE rom with Studio Kuma's Chinese support. Love the TD2 Chinese input, but I cannot get it to work. @@.
Thank you for your ROM. I tried installing the WWE version and then realized later that it doesn't seem to have Chinese handwriting recognition support, but only other inputs such as zhuyin, chanjie and pinyin? Is it possible to incorporate Chinese handwriting recognition for WWE? Many thanks.

wow right after flashing the TW CHT 1.0 ROM and in less than 24 hours 1.1 is out. Time to flash again
By the way I noticed one possible issue: I assigned one of Opera's shortcuts to GMAIL, and although I have the account login and password saved, everytime when I load the GMAIL link from Opera I had to relog back in.
Many thanks for your hard work, somesex

That's ok. I have just flashed your CHT TW version for now. It is working great! Thanks so much! Keep up the good work!
This rom is very fast and stable..I recommend chinese user to upgrade this rom..
Great ROM! The Topaz CHT keyboard is the dream SIP I seek for long time on my HD. I can use 倉頡,Chinese Handwriting (2 versions), and the English Keyboard has T9 support! This has never been possible on the stock HD and other cooked ROM. Besides, Quick 9 九方 and PlumSIP (速成版) all worked. I can use all kinds of Chinese Inputs methods on my HD now.
The only minor issue I notice is the ROM is tweaked to use large file cache, font cache etc. which makes it really stunning fast, but at the expense of huge RAM consumption. Mine has only 50 MB free RAM after running both Manilla 3 and SPB Mobile Shell. But that's OK, we've got plenty of RAM in our HD.
Thanks somesex. Great ROM for people from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The original stock Topaz ROM has load of stuffs preloaded at startup that consume all these RAM. The file cache and font cache should cost you less than 10MB in total ... they are not guilty ... hee hee ...

Could you help export the following registry entries for me:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manilla\Configuration\
I have messed up a bit with the 01 to 11 entries above in trying to bring back the old start menu and the program tabs on the new manila.
See if you could help. Thanks.
Is it just me or I'm noticing that the battery drains faster on this version of ROM when compared with my stock HTC Touch HD CHT ROM? Before I don't need to charge the phone until every 2 - 3 days, now I need to charge it every 1 - 1.5 days, with similar usage.
Somesex, nice job! Thanks to you, we can enjoy the people centric feature that previously could only be found on the Diamond 2.
I tired to flash this ROM, but the status bar stays at 0% and finally failed. I am running the latest HTC official ROM in 1.59, shall I install HSPL or USPL first to my HD before flashing this ROM??

Does anyone have a clean WM 6.1 ROM for the Rhodium? Something that has no HTC enhancements.
Like this 6.5.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551282&highlight=clean
What I actually looking for is a completely clean ROM with only QuickGPS, USB connection popup & HTC Keyboard. No other extras. Anything like that out there?
I did a lot of searching but found nothing. Ill even cook if Im forced to. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
There are some "LITE" roms out. But I do not think they are that stripped out (only Quickgps, USB Connection & keyboard).
Try contacting At0mang. He might be able to customize a ROM for you.
Or you can try one of his LITE roms (Fusion V5.5 Lite CHome HTC Dialer)
clean rom with Touchflo is what im looking for, either wm6.1 or 6.5.
if anyone has a link, plz be nice post them..
May not be exactly what you're looking for, but it is a very clean, lightweight, reliable 6.1 ROM. Here's the link:

This rom does not support anything else but the stock hardware keyboard layout, also its based on a Raphael ROM.
Yes thing is the best alternative for WM6.1 a.t.m and its what I am using. But it has lots for things which I dont use and they just take up space. Like : RSS, Worldcard, Streaming media, Touch Off etc, and it doesnt have HTC Keyboard. On a clean start the ROM has 350MB storage space. But the WM 6.5.1 one that I linked above has 385MB (and it already has HTC Keyboard and USB popup).
Ive pmed At0mang, lets see what he says.
Please update the thread with your findings. I'm in the same boat as you. Looking for the Cleanest, Latest and most Stable build with just enough programs and cabs installed to make all the TP2 features functional with Manila 2.1.
I don't get it. I used to have a Hermes (64MB TOTAL RAM) with duttythroy's SUPA DUPA LITE (WM6.1) and after boot it would ahve 30MB Free RAM. I can't find beyond 145MB free RAM on the cleanest of the cleanest and the lightest of the lightest Rhodium ROMS, a device with 288 MB RAM (This is ofcourse with no Manila)
Do the drivers really take up that much space?

From what I know is that 288MB is not the total amount of usable RAM either. Some of it is video RAM, but how much I dont know. On the Diamond for example the RAM was 192MB. 64MB Video memory and 128MB RAM.
As for the ROM (512MB) most of it gets wasted on things I dont use. The max Ive found free in a ROM was 385MB. That was the link I posted above. Its a WM 6.5.1 ROM but as such not very stable.
I am making a list of things I want removed and others that I want kept, I will post them here as soon as Im done.
So far thanks for everyone's support.
Edit : Here is what I would like the ROM to be like
Based on WM 6.1
All HTC things removed (even thier 3G icons & Commanager, I will install my own) execpt for USB connection popup, G-sensor calibrator, Kinetic scrolling, The new bluetooth stack, HTC End key, HTC Large start menu & Camera.
Some Microsoft things that should be removed : Calculator (if nothing depends on it), Office Mobile, Windows Live & Messenger, Games, extra themes (leave only one, the default one), Ringtones (leave only one, the default one), All the non essential stuff in "My Documents" folder, like Pictures, Wallpapers, Templates for camera & MMS.
Things in the settings folder that I want removed : Encryption, Clear Storage & Connection Setup (the thing that sets-up carrier setting. These I can do myself).
Based on WM 6.5
All the above plus remove IE6 (not PIE) because most of the web plugins dont work with it and I use Opera anyway. Only reason to keep PIE is because I need it for LogMeIn. Also remove honey-comb start menu and use the default WM one.
One thing to keep in mind is that I have a Swedish Touch Pro 2. So I would like to keep the files require to do swedish input via the hardware keyboard.
I dont really think anything else could be removed without causing harm to the basic functions. Although Im open for suggestions.
So any ROM developer up for it ?
Edit 2 : Some other things that can be removed : Error Reporting, Help, Remote Desktop & Search.

Hello
I thought it'd be a good idea to create a list of the different memory rates of the different roms (cooked & stock), as not all of them list memory usage, and it'd be good to have them all in one place [I'm thinking Wiki, if we get this list complete enough].
Please help me create this list.
Thanks in advance,

Energy CHT - 60MB free. Although it varies from each update. and you really need to post if it's running max sense, cht, or stock wm interface.
This is going to be kind of hard to keep up to date. Because new versions of each ROM keep being released on a regular basis, and their memory figures may change.
Also, you need to make sure you get memory figures from the clean ROM with nothing else installed on top. Even going to some Sense tabs uses up RAM space (try it and see after a reboot).
energy roms use 70% of memory
this thread is a good idea but i think it will be very hard to keep up with. and youll get entries that will just irritate some people hah.

Umm, are you serious ? Which version of EnergyROM exactly ? There are loads of variants of EnergyROM, with varying memory usage.
All of them
I use to only use energy roms but they honestly got so overloaded with apps and options that with the current Rhodium device im useing it became un-usable.. Im now running ""Jacko's full"" best rom ive seen thus far
i like ShowLITE from Jackos its pretty fast! too bad the dialer is messed up stupid tilt 2
Hi all,
Here I am again with an updated version of the MadROM. As this is a quite big update -and the ROM got a new name-, I started a new thread. I hope you all will like it. Currently I have a NLD (0413) one and a WWE (0409) version available. I'm not planning to make other languages too at this moment.
Features (compared to a stock 1.36.x ROM)
Removed stuff
* Facebook application - You can get the newest version in the Marketplace if you want to.
* CoPilot Trial - It's just a trial, not worth wasting disk space.
* Google Maps - You can get the newest version in the Marketplace if you want to.
* JBlend - I think almost nobody uses Java apps that are originally designed for old Nokia's on a WM Phone.
* OOBE - You just use it once, after hard reset. Not worth it.
* RDP Mobile - Just too little screen to handle a real desktop.
* Sample music - Just copy your own music.
* MyPhone - MS should not put backup stuff on our phones. I want to choose myself.
* Themes - I like the default HTC Black theme, and if you don't, XDA is full of themes
* Opera 9.7 - Don't worry it has been replaced, see further in this post.
Added stuff
* Opera Mobile 10
Tweaked
* Uses Windows build 23152 instead of 23103. This means:
* . Office 2010 instead of 2007
* . Faster Windows Mobile build
* Manila now supports CFC, which makes it faster and less disk space consuming
To Do list
* Speed the whole thing up using Extendir (currently working on this)
* Remove default Ringtones and Wallpapers (will be available as a cab file for those who want them)
* Rearrange the Start Menu
* Let Opera 10 rotate auto (G-sensor)
* Get AZERTY keyboard with Dutch word library.
Did I miss your request? Just post in this thread

How to flash
You can use the SSPL method to flash the NBH file to your device. This is explained in this thread. Any problems in the flashing process should be posted there too and not here, as this are not ROM-related problems.
Screenshots
Screenshots can be found below in the attachments
Misc
F.A.Q.
Q: The Manila flip clock is always on the wrong time and then flips to correct time when I go to home screen?
A: This is sort of "feature" built in by HTC. Can't help it.
Q: MadMatt Mini ROM has no boot sound?
A: No, but you can enable it if you want to. Just edit this registry key:
Code:
[HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\]
"StartupWav"="\\Windows\\HTC-QuitelyBrilliantBoot.wav"
Q: What is OOBE? You removed it, but what is it?
A: OOBE is that little wizard you go through when you hard reset your phone. It's there where you set your location settings, time, sync settings and so on. Actually, it's useless, as you can set all those settings in the settings menu too.
Compared
Just a little comparision with the 1.36.x stock ROM. Remember, the values on your device can differ a little bit. However RAM total and ROM free should be the same after first boot.
Code:
MADMATT MINI STOCK ROM
ROM FREE 228,54MB 163,15MB
RAM AVAILABLE 300,92MB 297,92MB
RAM IN USE +/- 165MB 179,96MB
RAM FREE +/- 135MB 117,96MB
Thanks to
I'd like to thank following XDA members, because without their tools, my ROM would either have not existed or have not had that extra touch.
- Cotulla for making SSPL for our device.
- Chainfire for inventing and making the whole CFC system, and giving a tutorial on how to patch Manila manually for Sense 2.5.x
- Barin for his very nice OSBuilder.
Donations
Donations are always appreciated and of course stimulate me to keep on developing this ROM. Don't worry, I don't really need it to survive. However, I would like to have the full version of OSBuilder, so I can make a even better ROM for you guys! Just click the "Donate to me" button under my name.
DISCLAIMER: Usage of this ROM should not damage or affect any data on your device or the device itself. However, I'm not responsible for damage of any kind caused by flashing, using or whatever you did with this ROM.

Can't wait !
Could you also remove some or most default wallpapers, sounds and ringtones? They take up useless space.
And what about the pagepool? Do you keep it default?
And maybe you could also intergrated PIMbackup. Since it's the easyest and fastest way to transfer all you phone data.
I see that you have competition from nsourm, he also released a NLD rom.
I'm still loyal to you.
maybe you should also include resco explorer or total commander and this taskmanager
looking forward to it and will try as soon as it's available ^^

Total Commander is a good idea PIMBackup, I just put it on my SDCard and run it from there as it works perfectly standalone. And I'll take a look at the task mgr
with the task manager you can replace/copy/etc some files in directories sealed off by winmo and you can edit registries and stuff, so it's maybe not that interesting for most average users, but i've found it to be usefull
can't wait to try mate, will be following this up close
