Memory Rates of Different ROMS - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hello
I thought it'd be a good idea to create a list of the different memory rates of the different roms (cooked & stock), as not all of them list memory usage, and it'd be good to have them all in one place [I'm thinking Wiki, if we get this list complete enough].
Please help me create this list.
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy

Energy CHT - 60MB free. Although it varies from each update. and you really need to post if it's running max sense, cht, or stock wm interface.

This is going to be kind of hard to keep up to date. Because new versions of each ROM keep being released on a regular basis, and their memory figures may change.
Also, you need to make sure you get memory figures from the clean ROM with nothing else installed on top. Even going to some Sense tabs uses up RAM space (try it and see after a reboot).

energy roms use 70% of memory

this thread is a good idea but i think it will be very hard to keep up with. and youll get entries that will just irritate some people hah.
maybe use ranges instead of being exact. i dunno lol.

Umm, are you serious ? Which version of EnergyROM exactly ? There are loads of variants of EnergyROM, with varying memory usage.

All of them
I use to only use energy roms but they honestly got so overloaded with apps and options that with the current Rhodium device im useing it became un-usable.. Im now running ""Jacko's full"" best rom ive seen thus far

i like ShowLITE from Jackos its pretty fast! too bad the dialer is messed up stupid tilt 2

Wizard Rom (extended mainly) information please (or app)

Hello. I have been experiencing massive shortages of ram on my wizard. I started reading about all the different roms, and have friends that have tried the molski 30mb free rom. I also read about some others that pack much used stuff in the extended rom. My idea was to see if I would be able to make my own extended rom packed with some of my most used apps. To figure this out, I need to know a few things..... First, how large is the extended rom? Second, When you install programs from the extended rom, they install to the rom, right? (or extended rom? unsure here). If so, how much space is left in the rom for extended rom installs?
Is there an app that will load on my wizard and tell me rom info?
Basically I want to see if I can install stuff like wisbar, maybe even resco explorer into the extended rom to save on program space while saving ram using molski's 30mb free rom. This would give me more install space (very limited on that) and more ram (checking under couch cushions for any extra lately). Any usefull information would be greatly appreciated. TIA
*bump* Even help with search terms would help?! Ive tried just about anything I can think of and only find 100 page threads about cooked roms. Anything at all might help...
*bump* 87 ppl on this forum have read thism and someone must have seen something somewhere
I also have another question to add to the queue. How do you tell if your phone is CID unlocked? I know I sim unlocked it, but am not sure if the CID unlock worked or not. TIA for your help

Read farias info, but i give u an intro: extrom is 10mb, installing something from extrom dont install in rom but in the device storage...
In any case the os free memory when he really need it automatically so i ask u a q, why do u think that u have memory outage problems?
I am low on memory (ram) and program storage memory. I installed molski's rom last night, but I am still really low on both. I have 6mb free program storage, and even after installing molski's 30mbfree rom, i have 16-20mb free ram. I have tried closing almost all of my programs, but this does not go up. I figured that if I installed a few of my most used programs in the extended rom, and they were installed to the rom (wasnt sure about this) that I would have some extra program storage memory. I am going to see if removing my today plugins helps at all, but I only have 3. Resco, and phone alarm (dont really need it now) and one that allows meto turn on bt/wifi with a single tap.
mmm...yea, i also have around 18mb and im using farias 3.2 rom (falls to around 6mb during startup, this is normal)...its normal for this kind of device...thats why i ask u why u need more memory...in any case if u try to run something that asks for more memory the chances r that the 200mhz processor r going to be another limit...example: 32mb gba roms, some car game mentioned around, (pocketquake?), etc...
and i have about 30mb free storage, but this is because i store allmost everithing in a 1gb minisd...
btw, i use batterystatus, agile and ilancher plugins...and vbar also running in background...

I tried also molski's ROM and after reboot tried get rid of extended ROM by pressing soft restart button after instalation completed(when it prompted that selfonciguration will take place after3 seconds).
After reboot I had abou 44 MB free memory in storage and about 30 MB in programs.
But this is ilusion after instalation few programs (2-3MB at all)checked memory again and it drops more then 13MB.
By reghacking registry it is possible to see extrom as "Extrom2" it is 10 MB with more than 9,8MB free space and it is not writable.
Unlocking extrom would be solution and I've tried several unlocking tools, but with zero succes so far
Thank you all for your replies. I guess I will just have to live with this as it is. I love this device and if it only had a faster cpu (like my axim x51) It would be perfect. I currently do not have many problems with it, but I would like to get it running the fastest that is possible.
Thx again.
did u tried omapclock?

noob WM6 questions

Hallo, I finally dismissed my chicken outfit and flashed htc's wm6 rom onto my wm5 (the thrill !!).
With all today plugins off except for BatteryStatus (the latest beta), and the phone turned on, after a soft reset I get a paltry-ish 15M of program memory, changing magically to about 19M after a while (why ? dunno). Of course that then leaks slowly but surely and I'm sure we wouldn't want it any other way.
Is this the memory I'm supposed to get ?
Also, as a further term of assessment & comparison: the device is OC'ed to 260 via BatteryStatus, and I tried ThrottleLauncher on it (http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/index.php/pruebas/34-public-releases/76-092beta#tutorial). In spite of the OC, it seemed slow and clumsy.
Is it because
a) the herald's cpu is slow and there's no BS that can help it
b) throttlelauncher is aimed at faster devices or is still in development
c) stock wm6 is for some reason slower than say a custom rom under which throttlelauncher might work like a breeze
?
Thanks
stock wm6 is sooooooooooooo slow. if u want a clean stable rom, try open touch 5.2 org. that's what i use and u can manually disable the htc home plugin under settings>today and put everything back on to look like stock rom, but itll still be much faster than stock, and if u run bs, itll be smooth and quick
all of the above. period
I have in the past few days read maybe a hundred billion posts, and I am by now almost subliminally convinced that cooked roms are faster than stock, BUT
what is it exactly that makes the stock rom go slow ?
I mean, speaking of computers, short of replacing drivers for this or that feature, the pesky 200mhz cpu stays the same. On a desktop I may gain performance-wise if I turn off services, but I get no cookie for just deleting stuff from /Windows.
And how does the program memory really influence speed ?
(From the presumption that it looks more like "amount of stuff you can run at once" rather than "the more you have the smoother you go", at least to the untrained - mine - eye.)
the build of the custom roms is newer (therefore, better?) and there are less background processes running, which takes up the cpu. This is where the "more memory equals more performance" mantra comes from.
you can overclock, of course, and the stock rom usually comes with this HUGE pagepool thats just plain downright unneeded.

[tutorial] Change pagepool size on any rom

I have just flashed to the unbranded stock rom and felt the rom was running a little slow.
I changed the pagepool size of the rom to 32MB and reflashed, I must say the performance seems so much greater.
I have been keeping tabs on these threads, and havn't noticed anyone mention they have done this, a quick search in the xperia threads also shows no result,
I appologise if this info already exists, but I could not find it.
So here is a quick step by step,
Download whichever rom you prefer,
Download pagepool changer 2.21 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269
open the pagepool changer, select the NBH file of the rom you want to flash,
change the pagepool size,
Flash to phone as you usually would and Voila!
Yeah I don't think anyones been playing with it too much yet, anychance of a benchmark to compare?
I found that big files (such as OS maps for memory map) loaded better with a 16mb one on my advantage but others seemed to think otherwise.
Changed Itje's blackstone based rom to 32mb and reflashed.
1st boot takes a long time, subsequent boots are much faster.
Opening big files feels much quicker.
128mb map opens in 2:13 seconds with 32mb pagepool
and 3:35 seconds with a 6mb (stock) pagepool.
(not full view, just 4x4 km squares of map)
that's initial load, subsequent maps are nearly instant.
Not huge amounts but noticeable
Is there a point in trying to flash it to 64mb, or does it cause an error?
I don't think I've ever seen any one reporting trying.
0 16 or 24 seem to give the best results.
its most common by cookers to change pagepool, but we dont brag about it, i used almost everytime a 16mb on my roms, but the latest i made got alot of "large" files in it, and therefor i changed it to 20mb, and setting it to 0 the phone takes care of the size, see itjes 3.5...

hehe I was going to PM you about it, I was going to try 32MB on your Xion 2.2 ROM, would it give something or should I just leave it at 20MB?

as above, its not the benchmark that makes the feel of speedin a rom, in my rom 20mb is great for userinterface speed, it feels like its more speedy, but a little slower at other things, so it depends on build of rom, what you want out of rom, there is no final best setting.
I'm using Jack Leung's Lite ROM v2.1.
Originally with a 16Mb pagepool, I've altered that to 20Mb and find it overall faster, especially re-loading large geological map series I use constantly
Tried 24Mb pagepool, seemed a bit too slow in booting and loading new programs - quite subjective though. 20Mb seems to work best for my uses

Completely clean WM 6.1 ROM?

Does anyone have a clean WM 6.1 ROM for the Rhodium? Something that has no HTC enhancements.
Like this 6.5.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551282&highlight=clean
What I actually looking for is a completely clean ROM with only QuickGPS, USB connection popup & HTC Keyboard. No other extras. Anything like that out there?
I did a lot of searching but found nothing. Ill even cook if Im forced to. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
There are some "LITE" roms out. But I do not think they are that stripped out (only Quickgps, USB Connection & keyboard).
Try contacting At0mang. He might be able to customize a ROM for you.
Or you can try one of his LITE roms (Fusion V5.5 Lite CHome HTC Dialer)
clean rom with Touchflo is what im looking for, either wm6.1 or 6.5.
if anyone has a link, plz be nice post them..
May not be exactly what you're looking for, but it is a very clean, lightweight, reliable 6.1 ROM. Here's the link:

This rom does not support anything else but the stock hardware keyboard layout, also its based on a Raphael ROM.
Yes thing is the best alternative for WM6.1 a.t.m and its what I am using. But it has lots for things which I dont use and they just take up space. Like : RSS, Worldcard, Streaming media, Touch Off etc, and it doesnt have HTC Keyboard. On a clean start the ROM has 350MB storage space. But the WM 6.5.1 one that I linked above has 385MB (and it already has HTC Keyboard and USB popup).
Ive pmed At0mang, lets see what he says.
Please update the thread with your findings. I'm in the same boat as you. Looking for the Cleanest, Latest and most Stable build with just enough programs and cabs installed to make all the TP2 features functional with Manila 2.1.
I don't get it. I used to have a Hermes (64MB TOTAL RAM) with duttythroy's SUPA DUPA LITE (WM6.1) and after boot it would ahve 30MB Free RAM. I can't find beyond 145MB free RAM on the cleanest of the cleanest and the lightest of the lightest Rhodium ROMS, a device with 288 MB RAM (This is ofcourse with no Manila)
Do the drivers really take up that much space?

From what I know is that 288MB is not the total amount of usable RAM either. Some of it is video RAM, but how much I dont know. On the Diamond for example the RAM was 192MB. 64MB Video memory and 128MB RAM.
As for the ROM (512MB) most of it gets wasted on things I dont use. The max Ive found free in a ROM was 385MB. That was the link I posted above. Its a WM 6.5.1 ROM but as such not very stable.
I am making a list of things I want removed and others that I want kept, I will post them here as soon as Im done.
So far thanks for everyone's support.
Edit : Here is what I would like the ROM to be like
Based on WM 6.1
All HTC things removed (even thier 3G icons & Commanager, I will install my own) execpt for USB connection popup, G-sensor calibrator, Kinetic scrolling, The new bluetooth stack, HTC End key, HTC Large start menu & Camera.
Some Microsoft things that should be removed : Calculator (if nothing depends on it), Office Mobile, Windows Live & Messenger, Games, extra themes (leave only one, the default one), Ringtones (leave only one, the default one), All the non essential stuff in "My Documents" folder, like Pictures, Wallpapers, Templates for camera & MMS.
Things in the settings folder that I want removed : Encryption, Clear Storage & Connection Setup (the thing that sets-up carrier setting. These I can do myself).
Based on WM 6.5
All the above plus remove IE6 (not PIE) because most of the web plugins dont work with it and I use Opera anyway. Only reason to keep PIE is because I need it for LogMeIn. Also remove honey-comb start menu and use the default WM one.
One thing to keep in mind is that I have a Swedish Touch Pro 2. So I would like to keep the files require to do swedish input via the hardware keyboard.
I dont really think anything else could be removed without causing harm to the basic functions. Although Im open for suggestions.
So any ROM developer up for it ?
Edit 2 : Some other things that can be removed : Error Reporting, Help, Remote Desktop & Search.

it's good
Hm, the last recommended thread just says 'nothing here' in all posts
Did you ever get one?
I really want a blank WM 6.1 with just the enablers for the various hardware features (GSM, UMTS/HSPA, GPS, aGPS, WLAN, camera, hardware keyboard, etc). No HTC keyboard, thank you very much

NRG needs to be customized to work faster. I find it very fast. But I don't use all of the tabs, and I overclock my CPU to 710.
Did you install the newest version, listed in my signature?
Also if You interest on trying stock like and self customizable ROM, try kwbr ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811121
fast, stable and good battery life..

How do I customize it to make it faster? Where is this overclocking app at, and how do I remove some of the tabs?
About tabs, you can disable some, just swipe to settings tab on HTC Sense, choose "personalize" then "Home screen tabs", uncheck tabs you want to remove.

My phone is faster than every before.
Did you flashed the latest version of NRG rom?
I'm suprised you're having issues with NRG's ROM, I find it very fast.
If you want to try overclocking, check out the utilities in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698374

Where to start? The following is a subset of my phone settings. I've been tweaking them for months, and I would be hard pressed to provide a full list.
The OC app is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698374
As to customizing, the setting tab will allow you to remove the tabs you don't use. I found that I actually only use 4 of them. The rest just take up memory.
I also use BsB Tweaks (in the Tools folder) to set a high glyph and IP cache.
The other thing to do is to go into the Settings and change the start menu to be the Sense version. This will give you and extra 30 Mb or so of memory, and this will make the device faster. Do this step last, because it will be difficult to get to the NRG Tools menu unless you revert back to the default WM start menus.
EDIT: But you should be aware that NRG is not customized for speed. There are faster ROMs available. But NRG has lots of nice stuff, and the latest operating systems and programs.

jackos rom without a doubt. --->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632617
Keep in mind that it usually takes some time for a newly flashed ROM to "settle in". The performance you see right away is not indicitive of how the ROM will perform long term. Maybe files are still being setup? Not really sure why this is so. But don't freak out until you've used the ROM for a couple hours. Plus the battery meter will not be accurate. It needs to be calibrated by charging the phone to 100%, then down to 30%, and repeat a couple times.
If you've been using the ROM for a while, and done a few of the tweaks to streamline performance as other have suggested, its possible it was a bad flash. Task29 and start over.
But its also possible that a more lightweight ROM is for you. Energy is a nice balance of performance, aesthetics, and features. But some like to sacrifice some eye candy for a more lightweight ROM, like Jackos that someone else suggested.
I've used the EnergyROMs on my TP2, as well as Simplicity and Jackos, all are great roms. EnergyROMs have many cooked in useful apps and awesome features, Simplicity is lighter and well.. simpler than Energy and Jackos has amazing memory management and the best ROM if you're going for WM6.5.0.
I am a sucker for speed, and the fastest you can go is stock WM6.5 with no HTC Sense. I'm currently using Jackos SleekBasic with TouchFlo3D, just flashed yesterday, IMO its faster than all ROMs I tried except stock WM, its not really pretty and not many features, but I can live with it. Good batt life too...
OndraSter's WM 6.5 TF3D ROM is the fastest ROM I have ever used. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642956&highlight=OndraSter
Jacko's is by far the cleanist Ive seen its actually functional and has 110mb free after 2nd reboot... Great rom's.. Not a nrg fan anymore either.. especially cause he doesnt bother to actually test them on the devices he makes them for.
I used a lot of ROMs from this forum, and I can confirm that the Jackos is the fastest and stablest that I tried (I'm actually using the smartmove flavour).
Ondraster's also is quite fast and stable, but I find that jackos looks better
