In all cases my camera is not working.
In some ROMS I get an exception in "device.exe". In others I don't get the exception but the camera will either way not work.
The camera gets started and I only see a black screen. If I touch the screen the camera controls come up. If I place my finger on the touch-sensitive circle the camera makes the sound of zooming in and when I press that button nothing happens. After a few minutes a popup is shown stating:
"Unable to capture photo. Unable to get frame data from camera device."
Does anybody else have the same problem?
I tried the following things (individually, not in order). HardSPL (1.40) is installed:
- Soft reset
- Hard reset
- Clear storage
- Back to original ROM (1.35 NL)
- Upgrade to 1.37 (TLR)
- Upgrade to 1.37 (UK)
Return it for a replacement or get it fixed is all im going to say...

I already flashed it with hardSPL so I don't think HTC will consider looking for the cause.
I have encountered this error in this forum and on the web. Yet no one seems to have a solution or the problem just goes away mysteriously.
I haven't had that luck. No matter which ROM I use and no matter how much I hard reset the device the camera does not work. I just wanted to be sure what to blame: the software or the hardware. If it is the software then that should be easily fixed. If it is the hardware my warranty has been invalidated and I have to wait until I am able to reflash the original SPL.

After one day I regive my diamond to htc for a DOA i'm still waiting...I 'have the same problem
The same occurs quite often to Polaris. HTC support declares this as common issue. Return your unit for service.
I´ve had the same problem. Does anyone have the solution???

Why is this thread worth bumping? The answer has been given already. Send it back!
The camera autofocus indicator is supposed to turn green and then the pic will be taken. This happened the day i bought the cell. I changed to different shoot options and it worked.
At night i installed world card mobile, used it to recognise a business card. the autofocus feature worked and it recognised perfectly. i tried again with the same card, but this time the app hung and i had to do soft reset. I didnt use the camera again till the next day.
And thats when i realised that the autofocus feature was no longer working. The camera will make the focusing noise, the screen gets brighter, the navigation wheel lights up, but the white brackets do not turn green. Instead they display a red cross.
Having searched the forums, i found a few threads describing the same symptoms, but no solution. Someone mentioned using the camera application 6.01 from BEPEs rom... that didnt work for me.
I have done a hard reset using the original stock rom, latest shaks rom and duttys rom and bepes 0.99d rom... No relief...
Stock
ROM - 1.93.720.2 WWE
date - 8/7/08
Radio - 1.00.25.07
Protocol - 52.29.25.12G
DIAM140 64M
SPL-1.93.0000
I have the 2g EDGE only diamond.
Its under warranty, hopefully they will replace the cell, but i would prefer if a solution could be found. If possible, can some one who doesnt have this problem upload their camera.exe? Or am i being naive in assuming that simply replacing the camera.exe will solve my problems?
Thanks in advance,
Amith
Well, since you already tried to hard reset your device (multiple times even) and still it doesn't work, then you surely can rule out that it's a software problem...
I think you broke it my friend
If I was you I should go to the store where you got it since you have warrenty and all... One tip: flash your phone to the original rom (the rom you had when you bought it). If they see another rom on it, they probably won't help you
I had flashed it to the stock rom from the htc india site in the morning. Went to the shop in the afternoon. Today being a holiday, the shop was closed. Came back disappointed. Tried taking pics with the camera throughout the day. The focus only showed a red cross and the pics were clearly out of focus... And then...
It starts working again! On its on. I mean, I was hopeful something like this might happen, so I was trying taking pics every hour or so. And all of a sudden, the autofocus is back on. I took some 15 pics one after the other, only 1 pic [somewhere in between, dont remember which one] displayed the red cross, but even for that pic, the focus was proper...
The phone has had the stock rom for some 10 hours now. I dont know what caused the problem or what rectified it... I think i will play with it for a few more days, if it happens again, am going back to the shop.
Strange, eh??

I guess miracles do exist
Hope it stays in a working state! But you should go to the shop nonetheless, having it checked out... while you still have warranty

Good point, 4got to mention that
as luck would have it, the autofocus aint working again... though there is some interesting news...
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=3273
as per the above link, the touch pro received a minor rom upgrade that includes fixes for
The display of TouchFLO 3D sometimes may appear cracked.
When taking a picture, the auto focus function may malfunction in some circumstances.
In some circumstances, the preview screen will become black after taking picture.
In some circumstances, the device may hang while loading TouchFLO 3D.

is it possible to somehow find out what the fix was? maybe someone with a touch pro could download the rom and post its camera.exe?? maybe i should start a thread in the touch pro forum pointing to this post and request help there? what do you guys feel?
i took the cell to the vendor, he couldnt figure anything out. he said i was the first one to present this problem to him. the only option left for me is to take it to the service center where it will remain for atleast a week as per the vendor
Auto focus Polaris
I do have the same problme as you do. I tryed several things to repare this autofocus problem, but nothing is working! I m really disapointed in HTC. If they cant make a good auto focus, why do they try it!! I can't make good photos anymore with my Polaris, so i hope that this(touch pro file) will help to create a solution. I will not bring my polaris back to Htc because i dont want to lose all my progs and files!! Please find a solution !!! If it is a hardware problem HTC SUCKS!!!
Thanks for all!!
Hello all,
This morning i tried my camera on my diamond, but when i launch the camera app, it gives me black screen. That's so weird. I reinstalled the rom, did hard reset, but get same result. So i want know if that is software issue or hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue, will the camera app launches or not ? Thank's !
So i installed new rom, and when i try to take a picture with camera, it says this "Unable to capture photo. Unable to get frame data from camera device"
What does this mean ? Please help !
Have you tried modifying the option "Encode photos in portait mode" in Advanced config? It causes problems.
If it isn't that, I guess it is a hardware fault. Restore original ROM and send it to repair.
I ain't advanced config...I searched in google after getting the error messae above, i found many people with this issue, some solved it by installing original rom or diff ones. I tried that, but same result, that's weird. Also i can't send it to repair because i ain't guarantee anymore :S
Up..is there anyone ?
Not very helpful, but do you get LESS than a year warranty on yout location?
Have you tried switching between the rear and front camera?
I bought this phone from somebody, and the guarantee is dead at the moment. the camera worked fine for 2 weeks, now i don't know what happen.
@colossuss : Already did it, but got same thing, a black screen
Another up...
I had the same problem. Hard resets and reflashing did not help, luckily I had warranty left. My impression of this phone so far (both my own and from forums) is VERY bad and this is the last time I buy from HTC.
Pff sound sucks, camera is ****ed up...i'll not buy from htc anymore too.
My Kaisers Camera image has 3 blue vertical lines in it. I just got this phone a few weeks ago, and I didn't see them when I got it. I got it off Ebay, so it is used. Otherwise, phones in great condition.
Is there a way to fix this, or I gotta get the camera replaced? I don't see anyone selling the Camera replacement part. Will T-Mobile or HTC fix it for free?
try changing the cooked roms
mine also had te same problem with shifu rom
now its good with other roms
I also had shifu rom and thought what you said. I switched over to the AthineOS, but it didn't go away. I didn't flash back to the original rom first on my phone. Could it be that I need to flash back to the original T-Mobile rom first and then to AthineOS?
Also, what rom are you using?
I installed the HTC orignal firmware, and then flashed TPCElite. I didn't fix it.
So, does this mean it's hardware?
I have a similar problem but with one red vertical line. I have A TPC v11 ROM loaded. I flashed to the stock rom but it still had the same problem. Any ideas?
Does anyone know where to purchase a rear camera assembly?
I noticed that with the T.i.R. v20 K rom, my Camera produces a strange horizontal fuzy line across my picture. It's not a thin line like the vertical ones, but a thick and white fuzzy bar going across the image. Problem is, it only appears when you look at the image after you're done using the camera.
Oddly, I switch over to a different radio rom 1.65.16.25, and now it doesn't happen. Instead I got one of my vertical lines to appear again. I had a 4th one appear a few months ago, but it had vanished. Now that I installed the 1.65.16.25 rom, it came back again.
By installing the 1.70.18.02 rom, the lines even changed color. Went from blue to red now. Some of the lines are broken, like parts are normal. Plus a 5th line is now added.
I'm nearly convinced that my camera isn't broken, but instead there's a problem with mixing the Radio+Roms. Especially since this is a T-mobile model, which isn't very popular here on the forums. I think by trying Android and using the camera will tell me if the Camera is physically broken.
Who else has this problem and has a T-Mobile Kaiser?
As was previously suggested it definitely sounds like you need to keep testing different radio versions for your phone if you are getting these lines etc. About 99% of the time it's just due to that. I've had a similar problem before and I fixed it by going through about 15 different radios. It took a while but got there in the end. Perseverance is the key. Luckily it doesn't take long to flash the radio each time. Failing that, maybe try a new rom? Good luck.
lol i got the same problem too, eventhough using original rom. I had vertical and horisontal line

Have the same problem with Tir 20K. used to have TPC V11 without problems (Same radio on both) will tr to change ROM/Radio and let you know.
Changed to JJBlaster3 Build 23518 ROM and the lines went away. Same when I had TPC V11. The problem was with the TIR Rom (or the Radio combination with it)

Yes I think JJ applied some sort of camera fix months ago in his roms. But maybe it wasn't for this exact problem.
I haven't tried that rom yet. I'll let you know if it fixed it for me.
Hi dukenukemx, is your TyTN II already fixed? Cos mine has the same problem. I've tried flashing around 5 cooked ROMs (always flashing stock ROM in between), and around 12+ radios. By the way I didn't notice if the lines were already there before I started flashing cooked ROMs. The first time I noticed it, there were 5 lines. Now I can see 7 lines. So looks like this can be software rather than hardware related. Hope someone can help me solve this problem.
Thanks everyone... Cheers...

HardSPL?
Could be possible that HardSPL 3.28 to be linked with the vertical lines camera issue?
Coincidentally or not, my TyTN II started to suffer this s**t just after upgrade to 3.28.
For the records, I already tried many cooked ROMs, radios and the issue did not disappear.
Thanks.

i already done with camera fix,but that cab make my kaiser stuck at smart mobility,,
i use hardspl 3.29 n hardspl 3.56
should I try another hardspl?
A problem as in the camera along with the flash just don't work
When I enter camera or video mode it shows me a blank (black) screen, like
the lens isn't activated, while I does show all the camera settings on screen.
When I snap a picture it gives a message that a picture couldn't be made
and a 0 kb jpg can be found in my memory.
I've already hardreset my phone, did an update through seus twice,
but no change.
Someone else with the same problem or am I missing something simple?
Any help will be appreciated.
if you installed a custom rom try going back to an official one

There's isn't a hardspl or custom rom for the X2 yet.
I only used the SE update service, but before updating,
the camera also didn't work.
sounds like a broken camera. if its black but all the menu appears then most likely a problem with the lens.. theres an outside chance something has got inside onto the lens itself.
