I was wondering if anyone knows how i can purposely brick my g1/dream. My keyboard is fcked up and I know that i still have T-Mobile's warranty. I just wanna be able to brick it where the T-Mobiles center's employee cant boot into recovery and get passed the G1 boot screen...any advice?
(Should i revert back to stock recovery img and rom? Then flash danger spl?)

Click to collapse
Downgrade the radio w/danger spl installed
Or if not install danger spl without the newest radio
the same way many of people have "accidentally" bricked their phones. just do what Diceman4 said, good ole 1.33.2005 can do it every time.
Curious why you would want to brick your phone, t-mobile will replace it just because the keyboard is bad, they replaced one of mine because the sd card reader stopped working. I'm not sure if they have measures in place to determine if you "bricked" your phone of if it was a faulty phone, but if you can revert to stock firmware and get a warranty replacement, why go about that way?
so if i use any of these methods...the employee wont be able to boot into recovery? or should i revert back into the original recov...just incase?
(i dont exactly want him to see RA's version)
The keyboard doesn't work, they should replace it under warranty.
Keep in mind there's a fee involved if they determine the phone was damaged by you and it was not a defective unit, I'd play it safe and revert to stock firmware and then warranty it, but that's just me
well it's not completely dead...it's just that the space key doesnt press easily. you gotta force press it for it to work. i dont wanna hear some **** that it's not under warranty cause i damaged it for whatever reason.
As long as your phone doesn't have any cracked plastics and your ldi is still white you should be fine. Just unroot and file under warranty. And just to speed up the process tell them you've already master reset the phone and you're still having the same issue.
I'm having the same issue with my space bar as well. For the second time. Faulty design? I always keep my hands clean and have never spilled anything on the phones. I don't even take them out if it's raining outside.
You have the white version? Both of mine have been white. Have a friend with a black G1/Dream and his is fine. Let me know how your return goes.
My ADP1 does this...i just live with it.
Geeze... warranty?
This is something that can be cured by CLEANING it.
Open it up, take the keyboard apart, clean it, put it back together. Fixed.
the keyboard connectors are a sealed thing, ive already had is stripped with mine as i have a dodgy backspace and enter key,

i kill my CHARMER with wizard rom, what i am do with it?
install is ok, and after the finish install i dont boot my charmer,.... display is only flashing very shortly ((
sorry for my bad english
If it was a full ROM you've probably killed the bootloader.
Aside from sending it back to the manufacturer for repair, you've likely got a brick.
I kill everything.....maybe
after the insert battery, screen start flashing in small and sort time intervals.
I have send to my shop, when i bought it..i have guarantee (warranty)
do you thing, that they declare my warranty?
If they notice what you've done, then yes, the warranty will be invalid and you'll have to pay for repairs.
If you're extremely lucky, you might get away with it but I wouldn't count on it.
CID unlocking your device and flashing an unofficial ROM is a great way to invalidate the original warranty/guarantee.
i am so stupid, i kill am :-/
Well, how does the thing looks like? I mean, if they are not able to see the new ROM obviously, they *might* not go forensic investigation into the matter of the ROM. They will just hardware flash the ROM to see if it works, I guess.
Well, anyway, if you have warranty, that's half of the good news. I mean, what's the worst can happen? Pay for the repair charges, I guess. Better than to use your phone as a paper weight.
Just act stupid when they asked how the phone got into that situation. Say something like it turn out like that one day when I soft reset the phone. When (If they do, but I don't they will) they said anything about flash, you tell them, the phone doesn't have a flash for the camera, how am I able to flash it?
My g1 has not been working properly since i flashed JACHero2.1 something. They keys dont function properly like when I press end it either puts me at the lock screen or types 5u3i, there are several other keys that are broken too. I have tried new rom, radio and spl flashes and nothing fixes it. Any ideas what I could try next or what could have caused this?
have you tried a wipe?
restore from nandroid?
Hope you are under warranty
Call T-Mobile and just flat out be honest with them, minus the part about you flashing firmwares.. you will have a refurb that you really cant tell the difference from a new one on your way and at your doorstep for just the shipping and handling charge of $9.95 added onto your T-Mobile monthly bill.
I have done a wipe, not a nandroid yet I will look into that. Its sadly not under warranty I got it on craigs list.
I fixed it, thank you guys for the suggestions, the problem was in fact hardware related, I took the phone apart, which i must admit was the hardest phone to completely disassemble i have ever seen, and sprayed it down with electrical parts cleaner let it dry out and it now it works great.
So, I have a T-Mobile G1, and lately, I was trying to install different custom ROMs to check out which one suits me.On the Android Spin site I noticed JesterBlur, and looked it up.It said in a thread that in order to install it I must have the Haykuro's SPL.I was previously using cyanogenmod with cm recovery 1.4, and when I installed the SPL the phone asked me to reboot.Ever since, when I press the power button to open it,it gets stuck on th T-mobile G1 screen. No combinations work, including Camera + Power.Any ideas anyone?
It's dead. 1.33.2005 SPL requires the 26i radio, which you should have had already.
if you bought the phone on a contract walk in to the store and say that after accepting an update the phone rebooted and will not turn on. Try so sound as un-techsavvy as possible. They should replace it.
Eitherwise you either need to buy a new one, or replace the motherboard (thus replacing the borked nand).
First of all thanks for replying so quickly.
And secondly.....The phone might not be exactly the T-mobile G1, but an Android Dev Phone 1......I just said T-mobile G1 because they're very similar...Oh and I also tried the conbination Trackball + Power and a blue led appers.Anyone knows what it means? And since I can't quite take it for a service, does anyone know ANY way to restore my phone?ANYTHING!Even if I have to do it manually.....It's useless in this condition anyway.......
Only thing you can do to getting working again is to replace the motherboard. Doesn't look too hard and I'm sure you can pick up G1's with cracked screens on ebay pretty cheap.
Can I do a master reset? I'm rooted & using CM w/kspec.
Considering sending my phone in for replacement/repair. Not sure if I can tolerate the off-color screen & cycling auto-brightness. Thought it wasn't a big deal and I'd wait for an update - but after reading other forums I'm not sure if or when there ever will be an update.
The guy from Google suggested I try to reset the phone. I know that wont fix anything but thought I'd give it a try...
What do y'all think? Should I just put up with the slight off color screen & hope for a software fix? (That's what the HTC guy said to do). Or should I try to exchange it.
I'm rooted I know but HTC is still good about replacing rooted phones right? I should just instal the stock rom right before shipping?
Srry for the multiple questions
..........
When you just rooted it is possible to revert via factory reset. If you flashed anything else then your bootloader is unlocked and there is no known method to revert that. warrenty is void. maybe HTC won't notice, but if they do, you would have to pay at least the shipping charges.
if you have already flashed another rom, do you have amon_ra's recovery image? there is a wipe -> factory reset option. there is another one in the settings menu somewhere (on the "normal" os), but i don't know what it really wipes and what not.
to bad you guys live in the US. i could even break all warrenty seals and get a repair (at least for products I bought here)
HTC has been quite good about honoring the warranty on hardware defects regardless of unlock/root.
thanks
i dont know what to do. the phone looks fine really now but that is because im using it in a bright room. its only when on low brightness or in a dark room that it looks really purpley...
guess i will return it... because there is also the auto brightness issue as well... or do i wait for the supposed software update??
uhmm i still have warranty on my x1 nd nothingz really wrong with it, except i dropped it the other day from a 3 story balcony and the rails to which the screen opens r bent, the phone is in perfect working condition thoe.. should i just buy a new housing nd replace it myself or should i try and get one from my warranty?
..also i can't get my gps to work with google maps fron nrgz new rom.. can somebody tell me the configurations of Com ports on their settings plz? thnx in advance guys..
from my understanding as long as you are using custom rom you will not able to warranty anything.
Reflash back to stock rom and claim on warranty, its not like the custom Rom caused the physical damage
yep, but never ever mention that 3 storey drop (or any other drop) or your warranty is void for sure
check NRGZ thread for rom specifics
gl
yea i'm going to revert to stock rom and spl obviously but i thought warranty doesn't cover physical damage, what should i say when they ask whats wrong with the phone, i don't want to f*ck up because they'll make me pay for the replacement xperia if damage on mine is caused by me. last time i just told them the phone doesn't wake up from standby mode sometimes when it is left on over night. should i just open the phone and fix the rail of the sxreen so that it opens and then just tell them same excuse? or will that make no difference..
any ideass guyss?? :S
F.M.L!!!!!
I don't know what i did to deserve this, lol
A week ago or so i dropped my xperia down the balcony and now i can't slide the keyboard out since the rails or w/e u wanna call it are bent. So i kept my cool knowing that i have warranty, today i go to plug my phone in my pc so i can restore it to stock rom and spl and then bull**** to rogers to get a new one, BUT something is wrong with the phone's usb, this has never happened before, i plugged it in and the phone turned off, i unplugged it then turned it back on and now the usb jack of the phone is not working... i've tried different cords, even when i plug it in the charger the phone wont charge. So i know i'm F.*.C.K.E.D, unless there is a way to restore stock spl through memory card.
IS THERE??????? if there is i can just put my memory card in my mp3 player then connect it with pc and put the required stuff on there, my xperia still has around 47 percent battery left i turned it off ofcourse untill i resolve this problem. What do u suggest i do??
:O
Should i just flash my rom back to stock and send it in like that.. i know they can check if the spl is stock from boot up screen but the thing is my volume button doesnt work either xD, i dropped it down elevator shaft and it hit exactly the volume down button and broke the button, now only up works. So they can't check through boot up screen and they can't connect the phone through usb.. should i flash stock rom asap then turn the phone back off and send it in with approximately 20 percent battery by then..
What do u guys think..
Well you could try to flash your phone through SD and see if it works, but I But usually get a warning when battery is below 50 percent... But I use pc method, so maybe it will work for you.
And if it doesn't, you said you're phones hardware is damaged, so it shouldn't matter what kind of ROM you have in there am I right? They just need to fix the hardware.... But I am a dutch law student, I don't know which country you are from and what kind of rules apply to you
/showthread.php?t=445662
that's where instructions are for flashing your ROM but NOT your SPL. if you just need to get back to normal ROM then you can do that... then, send your phone back...
Sorry to hear that
But i think that the warranty does not cover an accidental cases. Except if phone destroyed itself alone (which is impossible), i don't see how they can accept this under warranty and send new phone for free.
If its physically damaged because of your fault (which unfortunatley in this case it is) they wont repair it under warranty, warrantys dont even cover acts of god! so unless you got insurance you'll have to make do or pay them to repair it for your probbably??? maybe ask them if you can pay, no idea how much it will cost
there is no call to open a second duplicte thread to the one you already opened on the same issue!
pls refrain from such redundant actions in the future and also choose rule conform titles describing your immediate problem
