Hi, is there any latest ROM that doesn't mess up SMS threads?
Dutty's R7 with HTC messaging - u can't see the whole message if it's longer than 200 chars, same with Miri V12. Also tried Miri's V30 based on Manila 2.1 - and the problem there is even more ridiculous - in a thread messages are in wrong order, first goes all my replies and then the other persons txts.
I am using Jeyo Mobile Companion and PIM to restore messages and get the same results. Any proper ROM?
i think the problem lies in the backup program, they somehow restore them in the wrong way. I think it works via myphone (at least that what i heard).
The best solution is to not sync your messages, which i do .
I don't really understand why people have to put hundreds of old text messages back on their phone, they have read them right?
Anyhow, it is related to the backupprogram and manila not working correctly. Try using topix, in that rom there are no bugs at all (but it's a wm 6.1 rom)
Not really sure that this is the problem of the restoring programs as I tried different options. Tried also Laurentius V3 - again problem with messages that don't show in full and that lay over each other.
Anyone else having same problem? Or any advices on program that actually works?
I have the same issue with text messages being out of order on NRGZs Energy Photon ROM, the new 23081 build.
The issue is down to the date/time stamp on the messages. I had my messages going out having the same time but yesterday's date on them, hence the order being all wrong. I checked through all the regional settings etc to see whether all that was ok, but nothing was wrong.
It appears not to be doing it now, but I have cleared all my messages out and soft reset a few times since, so I cannot say what was causing the issue.
if you run manila2.1, whatever rom has this cab is ok
no, that doesn't work either...The usual problem: all my messages in the beginning, if I scroll up I find other persons messages and at the very top txts for today for both of us
other ideas? I don't get it really: what's the point in all the new cabs and functions if one of the two main functions - texting and calling - doesn't work properly?
sorry fr bumping such an old thread... but have been facing this issue with all the ROMs i've tried...it's highly irritating. i some times miss imp. smses
I'll test the fix cab and report soon...
In case someone has already found a working solution. please post it here.
B.U.M.P. guys.. anybody has a solution for this?? kindly help ..
topix for sure has no messed up sms's. dunno i tried lots of m2.1 roms and if sms were messed up i installed the attached cab and they worked
If you're using a backup/restore SMS program, you should disable Threaded messaging before backuping and before restoring.
I've noticed that backup/restore SMS programs have some problems with threaded messaging, but I have never encountered the messing issue since I disable Threaded messaging before both backuping and restoring.

You have to be more specific, are you using rom based or cab install, which program are you using to restore?
Im using rom based Manilla Hyperdragon, restored 250+ sms fine but, restoring emails don't work well (manilla sees the emials but outlook doesnt just blank and you cant create them because it says they already exist using sktools restore. So I just restore sms with pimbackup.
I am using HDIII and using PIMBACKUP. I restored abt 2500 sms and it fails to launch..

lol damn, that is a lot I have no idea because i never used to save sms just started 2 weeks ago, maybe someone else has same prob.
+1 Same issue here, any solution for this issue ?
i have over 6000 messages currently and i started having such trouble when the count was around 4000 messages. i've flashed ROMs many times before that and many times after that point. but i ALWAYS kept the text messaging tab in manila DISABLED, so the problem might have actually occurred at ANY point in time before the 4000 messages mark but i only accidentally found out about it when i left the messaging tab enabled by mistake when i was using TPC's ROMs near the end of 2008.
long story short, in my case the problem is because of one or more "bad" messages that manila doesn't seem to like. in my case, manila2d would start up but ALL of it would be black/blank. i certainly didn't want to go through thousands of messages to try to pinpoint which particular message(s) were causing the issue.
to make the whole thing even shorter, just disable the messaging tab (using M2DC) and see if manila2d starts up correctly. if not, it might be some other problem. if it does start, you're better off without the messaging tab because i feel that personal stuff like messages shouldn't be so easily accessible and readable in the home screen.
i know its not much of a solution but at least you can continue to use the rest of manila2d with no other issues with the messaging tab disabled.
This is in the rom section because it is a rom related issue.
using both dutty's 3.4 and 6.5 R1, and also topix with manila 2.1 I get an immediate response with an "InvalidPduContent" error when i try to respond to a message via the manila threaded sms. i can send messages from standard winmo sms.
I have AT&T. I get the same error on both the Telstra T8285 and the T8282. I looked into the error futher and it seems it can be a problem with the following:
"to" field is being interpreted wrong. when i send a message to someone via manila, i check the "sent items" folder and the to field looks like this:
"Last, First" <14405551212>
the above is the only format that fails.
if i send a new message via manila (no existing conversation), it only shows the person's number in the To field like this:
(440) 555-1212
using default winmo sms it looks like this:
Last, First
has anyone found a solution to this issue other than disabling the manila sms portion? Hopefully this sheds some new light on the situation
I have the same issue. I dont know what is causing it but hopefully someone will fix it. I prefer using the manila for sms as it's alot nicer but for now it's back to the old, ah well...
I see what you mean as well with the incorrect format issue. It is appearing, on face value, to be interpreted as an email address not a phone number. If you get on e of the failed messages and click on the name that's what it's coming back with but the messages that went through ok when the number is clicked it goes straight to the Manila contact.
its a bug in the manila, newer versions works perfect, bud if someone know a solution,i have the same issue...
I had this problem also, then flashed Lost In Asia, v4 (v5 now) and had no problems. The fact that when you clicked to reply to a message, by default goes to the new manila sms system meant that these roms weren't an option for me. Try Lost In Asia if you have time, see if it solves your problem.
I had a Italian ROM (NextGen 1.7) and I no have this problem.
does nobody have a solution for this please
Some User Set Their SMS Sending Option To GSM , And The SMS Bug FIX For Them , Try This .
This is also being discussed in Dutty 3.6 thread. He gathered some information about provider, country etc.
It seems that T-Mobile and Orange suffer the most from this problem.
One solution could be that you add +AREACODE to the contact.
Dutty's V3.7 will be online soon and contain a small updated Manila. Have to see if this still has the same problem.
i work with topix 2.0 rc1 and have the sms issue, yesterday i have unlocked my hd with olipro tool, with the sms issue i can't send whitin manila and can't send to special numbers like the radio etc...
today i tryed again and the sms issue is completly gone!i dont understand bud maybe someone does?
is it because of the radio?the sim unlock or security, cid,i dont know.
maybe this info will help to solve the issue.
Been discussed in great detail on Duttys thread and it appears to be a mixture of unicode, location and carrier. However it has also been fixed on Duttys latest rom V3.7
Hi all,
I have Tilt and I am very fond of messaging.
I was having a conversation through SMS with a frnd and when i was replying to one of his SMSs, all of a sudden hung a lil bit and all the SMS of his has gone.
Then later i checked, some people and sites who are regular with their SMS (3-5 SMS in day), those SMS are also gone but not the complete thread is being deleted.
I am not able to understand the pattern.
Is it like that each thread can contain only a specific number of SMSs.
And earlier i thought this might be a problem with my handset or s/w, but today one of my frnd who uses HTC 3400, had the same prob.
Kindly help. I had more than 1000 SMS in it.
Softwares installed:
SPB Pocket mobile shell 3
kaiser tweak
google maps
web cam plus

while you are looking for a solution, i suggest you backup all your text messages using "pim backup"...search for it on xda
this way, you will have a backup that you can restore in case the situation gets worse and your device starts "forgetting" even more text messages
Yes, i am encounter the same problem too, where my sms been deleted automatically after soft reset my phone. Why it can be happen? any way to solve this?
Phone: Dopod 810

thanx buddy for the suggestion, but i believe ,anyones fate would not have fallen pathetically sick as mine. I had all the backups, but my hard disk also crashed.
anyways ..... still looking for a solution ... i believe theres a hidden bug in WM6.0 n 6.1
But it is hard to believe that no one till date has not escalated this issue.
Hope to find a resolution for it.
Cheers !!! (Hope if WM allowed us to)
My original shipped rom used to thread txt messages, with the newest being at the bottom.
I then flashed my kaiser with various roms 6.1, 6.5 and hybrids ect but ended up wanting to flash back to original stock rom, nearest i could find was HK ASIA 6.1 found on this site.
Since putting it back on when i view SMS messages they dont seem to be in either, alpha, numerical or date order, but they are threaded... in fact i can have 4 sms and right in the middle is the latest one, but in long threads they can be anywhere and its hard to find.
Has this happend before? have a got the wrong rom? my phone as stock is MDA TMobile Branded and UK model and was running WM 6.1 when i bought it.
Any thoughts or help greatly apreciated, its driving me nuts.
assuming you backed up all your messages using pimbackup and then switched roms and then restored your messages using pimbackup, then you should know that there a sequence you must follow so that pimbackup performs the restore operation correctly
the sequence is described several times in the pimbackup thread...search for it and read it thoroughly
it goes something like:
1. with the archive of your messages from your previous rom in hand, use kaisertweak to disable threaded sms
2. do a soft reset
3. after the reboot, use pimbackup to restore your messages
4. once the messages are restored, use kaisertweak to enable threaded sms
5. do a soft reset
6. after the reboot, your phone will act slowly as the threads are built in the background...let the thread building process finish...be patient, it may take several minutes depending on how many messages you've restored
7. now your threads should be built correctly
Hi thanks for the reply, i did not back up my SMS these are all fresh ones that have come in since flashing the phone.
The default for 6.1 is threaded so there is nothing to tweak, BUT as a test i have added the extra reg key to disable threding, then enabled it again to allow the machine to build them, and it does work, my problem is that the thread is not being displyed in recieved order, even though it is set to received order.
Its very strange seing 1 unread message in the middle of a conversation thread and not at the bottom where it used to be.
Perhaps i will install that tweaker program you talk about and see if that helps, maybe there is something that i have missed.
Im looking to change the rom on my HD and see a lot of comments about the sms bug in manilla 2.1.
Im using Orange and from what iv gathered the bug affects Orange (and a few others). What exactly IS the bug and is it worth avoiding manilla roms 2.1 because of it?
seems to be related to the interface of SMS Manila where when You wrote a message, time by time the text still pending in the outgoing folder, so the sms is not delivered.
To bypass this problem, is what I have to do, is to replay directly to the SMS default page, instead of Manila interface...
I'm not to be sure that is clear, I really hope so...
Yes there is a bug in the Manila SMS application itself. You can either make a change and use the Windows default SMS application, use a different ROM with the older Manila, or live with it
you can't send 2 messages in a row to the same person, don't know is it only from manila or generally :/
hmm, i think it is how you sync ur contacts after flashing the rom. if you use pimbackup u will get the sms problem. however, if u sync via activesync, it should be fine. thats how i worked around the problem. hope it helped :]
I never had this issue and used activesync to backup contacts/emails
i've done it via Activesync, MyPhone, PIM, all options, without restoring old texts, with restoring them (again MyPhone) and got it every single time :/

+1
I always use activesync to backup my contacts and calendar with google's gmail and always working.
Strangely enough, it seems carrier-related as well...
there is a cab, i think is call timefix that one work for me when i got that problem
