Activesync and Windows 7 - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
Lately, I've read a lot about Activesync not wanting to recognise the Xperia when using windows 7. anyone know anything about this and maybe, just maybe...have a solution?

Today for the first time I've connected my X1 to Windows 7.
The system has downloaded a new software named Windows Mobile Device Center, it configured for 2-3 minutes then it has synchronized successfully all my information.
So my experience is very good. The software is not ActiveSync but what matter about the name ?

Yes, that did the trick!

No ActiveSync in Windows 7. Windows Mobile Device Center recognises the devices and handles the Sync.

I can sucessfully sync my X1 on 2 different laptops with Win7.

ActiveSync and Vista

Hi, can anyone help?
Running Vista from my laptop and want to synch my Vario II with it (currently synched Vario II with XP running desktop). Tried to instal ActiveSync but laptop tells me it's already there but I can't find it in the programmes list and it won't find it on a search.
My laptop does recognise my memory card in the Vario II but won't recognise that it's actually in the Vario II - i'm confused. When I conect the Vario II I'm prompted for a password several times but I can't actually synch.
Vario II is running WM5, have considered WM 6.1 but would I still be able to sync with the XP desk top if I install it.
All a bit confusing and frustrating this, I'm not a techie so basic answers please (if possible!!!)
Thanks

vista sucks in the sense of all those security related stuffs.. wmd sucks.. big time, dun ever attempt to do reflashing of roms at vista, u may end up a bricked phone
nice help thanks
Active Sync is for Xp..
Windows Mobile Device Center is for Vista..
So you need to DL Windows Mobile Device Center

Vista works fine. You can get your phone bricked by not doing it right, it happens in all operating systems.
vista uses wmdc - windows mobile device center & not activesync. so go to the link mentioned on the 2nd post & dload wmdc. should be fine afterwards.
1 thing that bugs me with vista/wmdc is that everytime you sync your device, it changes your device ID to "windowsmobileXX" for my prophet and now to "HTCXX" on my touch pro where XX is a number. So some of my programs that need device ID for registration gets screwed up.
edit: i've never had any luck with flashing on vista for my prophet needed to use vmware running xp. haven't flashed my touch pro yet...
Here is a guide i wrote to flash Htc Himalaya's aka xda2 devices in Vista, the steps should be same :

Have you installed ActiveSync?
Some people on the touch pro sub forums have reported similar difficulty, seems to be luck of the draw at this stage

Try both the Windows Vista and Windows 7 versions of WMDC. For some people, only the Vista build works...
Windows 7
Slightly off-topic, but is it me, or does Windows 7 look pretty much the same as Vista? I don't know what I was expecting, but I was quite disappointed when I first installed it. When I first saw Vista, aftyer using XP for five years, I thought 'Wow', but not so with Win7!!

Just (re)install WMDC 6.1 and it will work in windows 7. When updating windows 7 to a higher version you should reinstall WMDC
Tried all the above still not syncing

Everything looks good the updater downloads drivers then the WDM then the installs happen the device gets found and it sort of knows its a HTC device plugged into a USB port but WDM and Sync Center both don't believe its there .
I've tried resetting the Diamond complete reboots of the computer, I've changed all settings in the PC to USB menu on the Diamond (another thread) and this only changes the Device from Generic Serial to Generic NDIS but still WDM won't connect or a 4Gb removable HDD but the sync centre still dosn't find it.
So has anyone got any further suggestions I can't believe its this hard every one else has no probs what might I be doing wrong (I think the fact the device is a Generic Serial not a Diamond might be a hint but I can't prove it)

Active sync in windows 7 ??

Hi, I have install windows 7 rc , and i cant have my contacts in diamond to sync with outlook. It seems active sync is not compatible with win7 . Is there a solution ? Thanks ,
in win 7 is no active sync... you have to use mobile device center
hi
this works for me on windows 7 you can download it from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx
When you connect your diamond to win7, it will automatically download drivers and mobile device center . To get Outlook is your own responsibility. You probably have a 30 day trial version on one of the disks that followed your phone, but it will still sync after those 30 days.
EDIT: I have no clue wether the trial version works in win7 or not.

Ι downloaded the above. I didnt see nothning to change. I have installed Windows Mobile Device Center and it looks to work ok. I see diamond from the pc as a hard disc, and i can use it. I also have internet to diamond throw the pc. The phone is recognized by the pc as Touch Diamond P3700, and i have the icon of sync sender in taskbar. What I dont have? The one i am interested more.. My contacts to outlook to pc.. I have installed office 2003 to the pc , and i have outlook 2003. There , contacts are empty.
I dint see to Windows Mobile Device Center to have any option to transfer contacts from phone to outlook.. Any help ?
edit... Ok I just solve it. I went mobile device settings-change content sync settings. In contact there a press sync settings ,and there it writes synconize from Pc1 Pc2. Only one was "ticked" I tick and the other , and contacts went to my pc... Very complicated i think..
Hi, I'm on Windows 7 64 bit build 7100. Trying to get my phone to sync, have installed WMDC 6.1 64 bit version, plug my Diamond in and Windows Update fails on trying to install the driver, just get PocketPC USB Sync in Device Manager with a status of "This device cannot start (Code 10)."
Any ideas where I am going wrong on this? Had no issues on Vista 64bit getting it to work, have repeated all the same steps so am scratching my head somewhat.
Edit: Solved it, turns out it was my USB extension lead, tried plugging directly into the computer and it worked perfectly lol

Stephen Lane,
I have exactly the same problem. Did you found a solution or still facing this problem?
You can use Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. It's free to download by MS.

WMDC Error when trying to synchronize T-Mobile MDA Vario III with laptop (Win 7)

Hi,
I have difficulties to synchronize my T-Mobile MDA Vario III with my new laptop with Win 7. I am getting the WMDC Error whenever I attempt to synchronize my mobile phone with my laptop. I guess there is something wrong with either my new laptop or WMDC because I managed to synchronize the same mobile phone with my old laptop (Win XP) which runs the old 'good' activesync.
The relevant specs of the involved device, software and systems including the summary of the synchronization issue follows:
My mobile phone:
T-Mobile MDA Vario III aka HTC TyTN 2 aka Kaiser aka Tilt
ROM version: 3.31.110.3 WWE
ROM date: 09/01/08
Radio version: 1.70.18.02
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
System: Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
My laptop:
Acer Aspire 5536
System: Windows 7
Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.6965
What I have tried so far:
Reinstalled WMDC and rebooted my laptop (several times)
Reset my mobile phone each time before attempting the synchronization
Turned off firewall & antivirus on both laptop and mobile phone while synchronizing
Upgraded my mobile to the latest ROM (from 1.5 to 3.3)
Ran Windows updates including all optional ones I could think of that could help
Unchecked the 'Enable advanced network functionality' option in Settings/Connections/USB to PC on my Vario
Played with different settings on WMDC
What I know that works:
ActiveSync on my old Toshiba laptop (Win XP) where I can transfer files between my Vario phone and Toshiba laptop.
Bluetooth works between my Vario mobile and Acer laptop as well as Toshiba laptop, which enables me to transfer files but not synchronize contacts & emails with Outlook on Acer.
Is there anything out there that I can still try? Does anyone have any advice for me? I would really like this to make work as I do not want to revert back to my old laptop and XP because of this silly sync issue...
I would be extremely grateful for any useful tips...
Many thanks!
Tom
Anyone with the working WMDC synchronization?
All,
I wonder if there is anyone with the same phone (T-Mobile MDA Vario III aka HTC TyTN 2 aka Tilt) who has managed to make it synchronize with your PC using WMDC (Win 7)?
If yes, was it straightforward or did you have to use any workaround or tweak your device or PC?
I would like to get to the bottom of this issue. There must be a solution out there!
Many thanks,
Tom
What error do you get?
Have you try another usb cable?.
I get a generic (non-specific) WMDC Error - see the Attachment.
As for the USB cable, I do not think there is anything wrong with it as it works fine with my other laptop (Win XP) where I can synchronize successfully using ActiveSync.
I wonder what else I can try?
Thank you,
Tom

Ohh boy, It's the first time I see this dude. Does clicking on the help gives you any description of the error?
Try another cable just in case, have U click activesync from your phone and see if something happens?
Check on your PC Hardware also and see if you have an issue with your usb ports.
Have you tried looking here ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579612&highlight=Win
As for the generic WMDC Error, the Windows Mobile Device Center does not give any information about the Error (nothing about the Error in the help either).
However, I have checked the Microsoft Event Viewer and I found the following Error message there: "the Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)." - see the Event Properties and Event Details attachments for more information. Any idea what this error means and more importantly how it can be fixed?
I have attached the following screen shots for more information:
Device Manager
HTC USB Sync Properties - General
Event Properties
Event Details
The ActiveSync on my phone seems to work fine. It says: "connected" whenever I plug the USB cable into my laptop. What is more, I was able to synchronize my Vario phone with my older XP laptop without any difficulties.
Many thanks!

I have run windows update and it seems that all drivers are updated - see the attachment for more information.
The only useful piece of information that could possibly help to get to the bottom of this issue is the one I can see in the Microsoft Event Viewer which says: "the Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)."

I have managed to synchronize successfully the same mobile phone Vario III with a different laptop running Vista and WMDC 6.1, which makes me think that there is no problem with my mobile phone or USB cable but with my laptop that runs Win 7... Now, I guess I need to dig even deeper to localize the issue on my laptop...

I'm running Windows 7 ultimate and WMDC works like charmed. Just curious, are you running as administrator right?
Yes, I login as administrator.
I have found more information about which services need to be running and set as automatic when running WMDC - see the link below.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/services.htm
Do you have the same services running and set as automatic in your system?
Anyway, I am running all of them but there is no difference - still getting the WMDC Error... :-(
Many thanks!
Tom
After having spent the whole weekend on troubleshooting the sync issue, I am slowly running out of new ideas...
There are so many posts on internet regarding this issue but it appears to me that there is no silver bullet to resolve it.
In my humble view, I believe that what could fix the sync issue is to find the root cause of the following error that I get whenever I try to sync:
Copied from the Event Viewer: "the Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)."
Any suggestions how to tackle this communication error?
Many thanks!
Tom
P.S. Does anybody know when the next upgrade of WMDC is scheduled to be released by Microsoft? I wonder if there is any other software out there that can do what WMDC does so as I do not have to use WMDC to sync?

Can't connect to Windows Mobile Device Center via USB

Hi all,
I have a problem here after I upgraded my laptop to OS Windows 7 and installed Windows Mobile Device Center.
at first, I can connect to PC via USB (transfer file OK) but can't sync with MS Outlook 2007. and then at another connection, i lose my phone contact at my device (but only older contacts, new stored contacts still exist),
but now i can't connect at all. PC & Windows Mobile Device Center software not showing any activities.
I've tried to re-installed my Windows Mobile Device Center software and hard reset my TyTn II but still can't connect. Icon on PDA, only charging icon. I tried with connection via bluetooth and it works, but I prefer a connection w/ USB cable.
My question:
How can I enable the USB cable connection?
need your suggestion please...
Sorry for my bad English...
Hello kartonodeh
I have the same problem too, only its somewaht different. On my main PC, I can use my phone completley , no probs. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Windows Mobile Device Center, and actve sync.
On the other PC,I use windows 7 x32 ALTHOUGH i have Windows Mobile Device Center 2003.
I am not sure what is the problem/difference althoug I am now installing the new Mobile device center. Try it too, it may work.
There are many threads discussing this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579612.

I can connect through 64 bit and not 32 bit, which is REALLY weird since 32 bit drivers are, you know, MORE. Anyway, its made by Microsoft, what do you expect. I believe its a marketing scam
Theory: Make a windows device = 200$ income
Make new Windows 7 = 200$ income
But thats probalby just 400$ from each user WHO HAS BOTH!!. well, thats not enough. Make those two products not work together = customers telephone = $$$ from calls. Then, make only 64 bit drivers so 32 bit users HAVE to upgrade = another 200$.
Am I right?? Anyway all this is out of the thread so,
Possible fix :
1. Remove the device from device manager and disconnect Kiaser from PC (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456985.aspx)
2. Uninstall Windows Mobile device center.
3. Reboot and reinstall WMDC.
4. Reconnect your Kaiser and hopefully the drivers should be reloaded.
Hope I helped
Start/settings/connection/usb to pc and uncheck "enable advanced network fuctionality
