Hi,
I have a question about the phone reception, I have upgraded my radio to the latest 1.15 and I was hoping to help get a better signal but no luck, any suggestions…My phone gets about %50 of my phone calls and drops the rest.
Note:
I have a Siemens SX66 with Tuma 1.4, and it has been doing the same since the old ROM.
Try radio 1.12 or 1.13. Radio 1.15 does not work well with WM5
mine did exactly the same, i downgraded to 1.13 and its perfect now
Thanks…I am going to try this today,
Just one dump question, where can I download the 1.13 radio ?
here and here
I did the downgrade to 1.13 and no luck yet,
How could I test my radio to see if my problem is software or hardware?
Any other suggestion?
HEELPP…
if your sm card works just fine on another phone, then problem is in hardware, maybe antenna, you shoud take youur device to service center
guess it could be possible that the spring terminals in the antenna or contacts on the mobo are a little corroded causing a bad connections.. T6 torx and a small phillips screwdriver and you can check this yourself.. just remove the back cover and you will see the GSM radio antenna at the top.. black plastic piece with a green masked copper foil over it.. remove it, clean both sets of contacts and re-assemble.. might do the trick
Will try today,
Thank you very much...
No, No luck
HELP...!!!
I did downgraded to TuMa 1.3 and Radio 1.13 and I am still having the same problem...also the service center is saying that they wont service my phone since I opened it and tried to do it my self...(I removed the warranty void sticker)...
I am sure now that is a hardware issue but what can I do to fix that...any shortcuts...
since these phones are aged I'd just assumed that no warranty work could be performed anyway.. besides they would most likely want to replace the mobo which would cost at least $200 or more.. I would buy a working cracked screen sx66 off ebay for cheap and swap main boards.. will leave you with a few extra replacement parts too if you ever needed them.. I don't have have any one hand or I'd make you a deal although I do have some camera modules..
Thanks for the quick reply...
I guess that I might have to take your offer and find a replacement MB...
Thanks again.
I too have trouble with the phone stack on my phone (1.13 on Artz rom). About 50% of calls get thru and I'm lucky if I can get 30 seconds of call time. I'm just texting till Tuma 1.5 comes out and I'll deal with it then. But be aware, this may not be a hardware issue.
Before spending money on a new MB, I'd try another ROM or even try WM2003 and see if the problem is still there.
couple things before you do start any hardware swapping.. do try either 1.42 2003se rom or another 05 flash to make sure it isn't a rom problem.. second is it bad reception everywhere or maybe just in one area where they may have taken a cell tower offline for repair.. just thoughts
Here is what I had, I had 1.40.00 then I went to 1.42.00 then to Tuma 1.3 Radio 1.13, Tuma 1.4 Radio 1.15 and finally I went back to Tuma 1.3 With Radio 1.13 (they say it is one of the best) and I am still having the same problem.
I have another question, would it be possible to install an antenna or a signal booster inside my SX66?
no.. but you can buy an adapter to plug into the antenna port on the back of the unit and connect an external GSM antenna.. this would bypas the internal antenna altogether and let you know if there is a problem with the radio.. do you have a working phone to compare reception with in the same location?
http://www.wpsantennas.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=405
what is the difference between radio 1.12 and 1.13? Is one better than the other or are they equal? If you still have issues with wifi and signal with 1.13 and wm5 can going to 1.12 help?
Also does it matter if i use a type I or type II radio? (the editfix is the easiest method for my sx66)
Yes, my SIM card works fine if inseted in another phone...
What is Radio I and Radio II and would it make a different switching?
Dear developers..
Is there a possibility that I can downgrade my radio firmware from 1.54.30.10 to let's say 1.54.01.00 or whatsoever?
I tried dozens of methods but non worked, spend 10+ hours on this forum.. none worked.
My specs:
Treo 750 unlocked
Windows Mobile 6 (previously 6.1 normal version)
Radio: 1.54.30.10 (Hermes one)
IPL 0.20
SPL 1.40
Netherlands / T-Mobile
And is it possible to rollback to the official Palm Bootloader? In case I have to send it in for repair.
Many many thanks in advance
Bump Im Stuck With This ****ty Radio!!help!!!tried Everything!!
I guess nobody knows (so far) how to downgrade from Hermes radio. I guess the only way is to directly flash via JTAG - if you can find the right pins in your Treo. I.e. something like the one discussed for Hermes in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391047
There are a couple of threads going on about this now and some people have reported success, but I am a little skeptical (sorry mates) they were actually at this firmware level as I have yet to successfully downgrade my radio...spent hours flashing, reflashing various OS ROMs, radio ROMs, even made my own radio ROM extracted from ATT 2.25 update, via various bootloaders, SPL, and on and on. So I have given up and hope the official WM 6.1 update rumors come true and it contains a refresh radio and can actually over-write.
Having said this, I am pretty stable using 1.54.30.10 alongside the normal/generic WM 6.1 ROM
i was able to downgrade my unlocked and hardspl'ed 750 from 1.54.30.10 to 1.54.07.00. i had to use the palm recovery tool that was extracted from Treo750_2_27_ROW_EN_DesktopUpdater.
there's a thread on it, but basically, ran the recovery tool, then flashed the 2.27 ROW EN update, then updated it with a radio-less 6.1 ROM. after the ROW update, the radio version was 1.54.07.00, which worked much better with ATT

What exactly is wrong with this radio? I like it better than the ATT WM6 one simply b/c I've had less issues and the earpiece is MUCH louder.

with ATT here in NYC, i had issues with 1.54.30.10-- it would drop the signal and a reboot would be needed to get it back. or if you went underground, and came back up, it would not grab a signal for a few minutes, i would have to turn the radio off then back on to get reception.
the problem went away with 1.54.07.00

couple of questions:
bi differance from your old radio to the new one? where are you located on the at&t network?
if much better, can you give me a detailed step by step, with the right links?
thank you

Not wanting or trying to get into a fray, but rather really trying to understand how you have succeeded where we have failed. I have tried your method to no avail. As I stated here and elsewhere I've tried throwing everything at this firmware/radio short of the kitchen sink. The reason this radio cannot be downgraded, as I understand it, is due to a "password" type issue. The available down-level firmware and the methods for accessing the firmware do not allow for the 1.54.30.10 firmware to be overwritten. I truly question the validity of the claim, not that I think you a liar, but rather that you actually had 1.54.30.10 firmware installed or that you have successfully overwritten. How are you determining that you had 1.54.30.10 installed? How are you determining that you have overwritten with a down-level firmware?
I doubt you will do this, and you certainly owe us nothing, but as a service to your XDA compatriots, how about you re-install 1.54.30.10 show us that you have it installed, then overwrite it. Screen shots would be lovely.
Again, this may come off as having attitude, but that is not intended. This is purely an academic challenge to help the rest of us understand how you have succeeded where the rest of us continue to fail.
Thanks in advance, cheers!

i had flashed the different radio version via sd card. i actually bought a new treo when i realized i couldnt get it to revert down to an older version, and 1.54.30.10 was horrible with ATT in NYC. i would get on an elevator and lose service and have to cycle the radio to get service again
i wanted to sell the one of the treo 750s, but didnt want to stick the buyer with the crappy radio version. i tried the method someone else posted up and it worked, i was actually very surprised.
its sold and gone, working happily on att with the rom version i posted above.
the only thing i had done before the ill fated flash was to hard spl the device and sim unlock it.
i have no reason to make it up, i can assure you i was stuck on 1.54.30.10, as i went out and bought a new treo 750 to replace it when i couldnt get the radio flashed down. it was stuck as i had tried to reflash the radio SEVERAL times, both using the hermes flasher and the sd card method. it sat on my desk for a few months gathering dust.
i dont have a stake in this, as i actually dont even use the treo i have left anymore-- the second one that i never flashed to 1.54.30.10. i'm now using a kaiser.
all i can say is, i didnt think to take screenshots because why the heck would i make this up? the radio was stuck at 1.54.30.10. i simply followed another members instructions for the hell of it (i was about to rip it apart for spare parts) and lo and behold, the radio dropped to 1.54.07.00. sold it. done.
i wouldn't have bothered to waste the time to post my success if i had known i would have people calling me a liar. seriously? for what? bragging rights that i fixed my own screwup?
was your device hard-spl'ed before you flashed the 1.54.30.10 rom?
Also a no-go here with the URT. Tried MTTY. Even tried BRICKING the darned thing with MTTY, corrupting the OS and radio, and no luck, reflashes but the damned evil radio remains intact. Gone as far as flashing a kaiser radio then reflashing a cheetah radio...no luck. Anyone? Imma shoot this thing lol.

It's amazing that you still cop to this when I SPECIFICALLY stated that was not what I was getting at...why do people WANT to feel as though they're being kicked?
Anyway...
From the relevant bits of your response, I have to believe your "success" in downgrade to lower version firmware was rooted in the fact that the firmware upgrade to 1.54.30.10 actually did not succeed. Sorry mate, this one's a dead end.
Still waiting for someone familiar with the firmware coding to step-up and help us out of this jam...Bueller?

That's my hope too, maybe the new WM6.1 ROM that we're promised will have a newer radio that can overwrite this one.
A little input
My understanding of this problem is that the persistently present problem radio version in question has a bootloader that requires a main bootloader (SPL) which can do a sort of authentication handshake.
Essentially the radio bootloader says "hey, SPL, here's some numbers...what's your reply? And if I like your answer I'll allow new radio code to be flashed. If I don't like your answer or I don't get one, take a hike jackass". The Treo SPL can't respond to the radio as needed.
To my knowledge an SPL with this capability has never been released for the cheetah. Ages ago when this was a topic of interest, I was told that someone may be able to port a hermes bootloader over to the cheetah that runs and can at least allow for reverting the radio. The hermes and cheetah are very very similar, with most of the differences being in address locations and so forth and whatnot and what have you.
There's only a handful of folks 'round here who could port a hermes SPL, but unfortunately they don't have Treos and are thus likely not all that motivated. Donations may perk their ears, but the developer not having a device for live testing can be painful for all involved. I used my device as the test subject for Oli while he dev'd the unlocker and it took a lot of IMing code back and forth and describing test results to him. I'm surprised he had the patience really. I've been stuck with that locked hermes radio ever since and it's been bearable, but HSDPA throughput is not good.
The Palm support tool would not be able to overcome this particular issue.
Is there a large number of folks with stuck radios?
I'm stuck with it!

Hi Summiter
Yes, I think there are a relatively large number of people stuck with it, judging by the threads I've been following in the hope that someone finds a solution. Whether it's enough people to motivate Oli or one of the other gurus is not certain though.
My device has better BT connectivity and louder speaker volume, but dumps most of my calls whenever the signal goes below 2 bars. Very upsetting for me and frustrating those at the other end.
It'd be great to get out of this jam - serves me right for playing with 'cooked' ROMs and such - but I love what these people do on XDA-Dev, and can't help but wanting to join the party.
Anyway, for this problem I'm almost resigned to junking the 750, and getting another device - maybe an HP 914c or a Treo 850 when they come out. I love my 750, but it's getting to be a real issue for me.
From posts here and other sites there appears to be a large number of 1.54.30.10 radios on Treo's. Though there appears to be a divide in those that feel it works fine vs those who know it does have issues. With that however, I feel the new devices on the horizon will soon make this discussion moot.
-
I've had a really bad time with 1.54.30.10. Lots of dropped calls, crashed radio etc.
So many times I had to turn radio off then on to make a call.
GPRS would sometimes show connected but not transfer any data and it would need to be disconnected then reconnected.
Also, battery life was worse than before (I didn't think that was possible, Treo is so bad already).
I don't have time to try all the options listed above for returning to an older Radio so instead I'm trying the new Hermes Radio ROM: 1.56.70.11
I'll give it a couple of days then report back. Other Hermes users are reporting pretty bad battery life with it - but if the radio is more stable I'll stick with it.
If you want to try it yourself, the file name is
HERM_Radinly_1.56.70.11_CustomRUU
It was rock solid (for Windows Mobile, that is) on the 1.54.07 and older Radios.
I'm on Vodafone New Zealand by the way which is a 900/1800Mhz GSM, 2100Mhz 3G HSDPA network. We should be listing network frequencies here -- some Radio ROMs might be better or worse on particular frequencies.
Does anyone know how/why this could have happened. Perhaps it was a coincidence that my phone broke at the time of updating....but I just have a feeling something else has happened. I updated to Dutty's Diamond ROM and HardSPL 3.29 and after that, I cannot use 3G at all. I show I am connected to the 3G network, but I cannot make/receive calls, or use the internet. If I turn off 3G, all works fine. I tried 3 or 4 radios to see if that would help, but none did. After trying many things, I decided to go back to my original setup as it worked fine before.....but I still cannot use 3G now. I get a 3 or 4 bar signal on the 3g network it shows, but I cannot make/receive calls or use the internet. I did make sure HSDPA was enabled in KaiserTweak and Advanced Config.
If anyone has any idea...I would be so grateful to hear. I am at a loss over what could have gone wrong...or if I need to send the phone in for service.
I used to run this setup before this issue:
ROM: Alex.v52.ATT.162.cube.rom
Radio: 1.27.14.09
SPL: SPL-1.0.Olipof (Kaiser-HardSPLv1)
I updated my Kaiser to the following:
ROM: Duttys_Diamond_Rom_Ruu_Signed_5.2.1588_1.65.16.25_V1.zip
Radio: 1.65.16.25
SPL: HardSPL - 3.29
after the update, I tried the following Radios to see if it would fix the 3G issue. None of them did...
1.58.25.17
1.65.20.29
Niki Radio - 1.58.11.07
Thanks for any help or suggestions!!
This might be bad info but worth a try.
1. make sure there are no proxies being used
2. make sure all the network settings are correct for your provider
3. maybe post this problem in the thread of the rom you're using.
4. Flash back to the old rom to see if it's a hardware problem.
Thanks Chumley for the quick response!!!
I just verified no proxies are being used at this time... tried with them on and off.
I did revert back from SPL3.29 to SPL-1.0.Olipof (Kaiser-HardSPLv1) and reinstalled the old ROM I was using for the past several months.
Just turned on 3G and cannot make calls or receive them. Also cannot visit any webpages.
I am thinking I have a hardware issue at this time... but curious if I did something wrong that may have caused this.
Thanks for your suggestions... I appreciate it very much.
There was a thread last week like this and at least 2 people reported having a hardware problem. The problem was almost like yours.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396459
OMG!!!! I just helped someone without flaming them...... Something must be wrong.
Well it sounds like what I didn't want to hear. Thanks for that link!
Just wonder why it started the moment after flashing a new ROM/Radio/SPL.... seems like it is related in some way... but who knows.
I guess it was a good run with 3G data while it lasted. ha ha
If anyone knows any ballpark figure on service costs to repair a Kaiser phone, I would love to hear it. I am guessing though that it will not be worth shipping it in for service. Well maybe it will be.
No warranty?
I will have to look into the warranty. I didn't purchase anything extra...so I was sort of assuming there was a 30 - 90 day warranty which has past. Maybe it was a 1yr. Going to have to dig out the paperwork.
Well my Kaiser has been through a bit of ware and tare as normal, but hasn't been able to take as much as the Hermes it seems. I'm having the following problems,
1. Screen can be unresponsive intermittently.
2. Some keyboard keys you really have to push HARD to work
3. if I use the Hands Free kit and remove it, next time I make a phone call the Microphone and/or the Ear speaker(on the unit) will not function.
The Unit is still under warranty, however I've flashed a different ROM on it. Providing I can an original or Official upgraded ROM, would these faults be covered?
My unit is a HTC TyTN II, bought from 3 Australia on a contract. so if someone would like to help me find the ROM that'd also be good (I've looked at the Stock ROM list but haven't found any 3 Australia Roms.)
Many thanks
did your problems exist before you upgraded the ROM? if the problems appeared exactly AFTER upgrading your ROM, then problems 1 and 3 should be solvable (or can be reduced) by looking into flashing a compatible RADIO ROM (matching the ROM with a suitable radio ROM version is paramount to avoiding speaker and screen freeze problems). read the wiki for more information.
if the problems appeared randomly on their own, it could indeed indicate a hardware problem.
good luck!
EDIT: my bad, i totally forgot to mention the significance of the SPL version you are using with the ROM. once again, assuming the problems appeared exactly after the ROM upgrade, it is important to match BOTH the RADIO ROM as well as the SPL version with the ROM you have on your device.
SPL mismatches are known to cause screen freeze and speaker issues and RADIO mismatches are known to cause camera and speaker issues.
Hey,
Nah they didn't happen straight after, Well perhaps the Hands Free, but not sure.
With the SPL / Radio, It was all a bit too overwhelming to see what's compatible, so I just got the most recent SPL, Radio and Rom when I upgraded.
unlike normal software where "latest is greatest" usually, ROMs are a different beast...to get your device to purr along happily, it is imperitive to have a combination of ROM + Radio + SPL that is known to work correctly. unfortunately, the latest is greatest approach simply doesn't work and you will invariably end up facing strange otherwise inexplicable issues. there are issues reported rampantly of screen issues being solved by SPL upgrades...similarly speaker/sound issues are also reported and solved with a high frequency by ensuring fully matched combinations.
its a one-time read...start at the wiki...also search for mskip's excellent newbie ROM flashing guide...good luck!
Ahk, cheers for the heads up.
I might try what your using, as my rom is HyperDragon III. Would you be as kind to provide links for your SPL Rom and Radio?
Ta
you should be reading about all of this in the kaiser wiki and especially in the HyperDragon thread
the links to the wiki thread, the hyperdragon thread, as well as the links to my SPL thread and my radio thread are ALL already in my signature...have a look see!
as a summary for you (cuz you're not doing enough reading and i'm feeling good today ), just stick to the radio that comes with the ROM but do install cmonex hard SPL 3.29 to "complete" the combination recommended by the chef of that ROM
As you suggested, I read up about Radio's ,SPL's and ROM's. So I'm going to give it a go, however I'm trying to find Hyper Dragon IV, but can't find a DL link.
Let us know if the new Radio and ROM's work.
I'm having some similar issues too
I Gave up, restored it to it's initial state and sent it on warranty. Going to be without it for upto 6 weeks!!!

Do you have Bluetooth enabled when trying? If so, try disabling it and checking again. There is an issue with some ROM's not liking the settings, there are a few threads on what to change to enable it to work fine though.
No m8 the blue tooth is off and i have tried all sort of things...
some how it all started working now...
its just one of those windows things....where logic fails
thanx for the replies
just make sure a standard windows 6.1 HTC or Orange rom is on the phone and send it back - i've had no problems doing this even with a custom SPL version on there
I just sent my handset back with Duttys ROM on it
I dont think Orange are organised enough to bother chasing you up about it
It would only get picked up when they get the phone back to engineering - I doubt they even turn the phones on - they just flash them with their ROM as a first step. Even if it did get discovered - im sure they arent sophisticated enough to trace it back to you - and even if they did trace it back - what are they going to do then ?? send it back to you ??
Is all well saying this, but I do know someone who sent their phone back with an earlier dutty rom version and they refused to fix it as he had broken warranty.
My honest advice is don't take chances. Would you take the same risks with your house or car? Bare in mind the cost of the HD. Its straight forward to revert back to stock roms anyhow. Takes less than 10 mins for reassurance
When I had the Orange Tytn 2, I had 3 replacements from Orange and when I sent the faulty phones back, I left the custom ROM installed with the Hard SPL on it, Orange never complained.
I would just send it back as is.

I'm just highlighting the risks so he can make an informed decision knowing both sides.

I appreciate your comment and im quite amazed - I wonder did your friend TELL them in advance that he had a custom Rom ?
I'm only saying that because Ive never heard of anyone having this problem in the past - in fact I sent back my old S710 at least 3 times under warranty and they never said a word plus now my touch HD

I don't believe he would have been stupid enough to mention this, but to be honest I never asked him that.
IMO operators including Orange are aware of this site and realise they can't live without it. Maybe he was just unlucky. I've never had to return my device and if I ever had to, for the time it takes, I'd probably restore stock rom, but thats just me.
