To add screens (more windows to home screen) aside from the default 3?
I have the latest cyanogen mod and it comes with 5 but I just flashed a cool theme that I want to keep but it only has 3.
So is there a way to do it ? Is there a option to do it that I missed?
PS. I have openhome and that's not what I want.
Your theme prob has the advance laucher if it has a more option when you press the menu button on the main screen, hit that and go into the first option and select amount of screens , exit and reboot to take effect
look up advancedlauncher in the market or install the advanced launcher located in the dev forum
edit: went back and re-read. yeah just hit menu and extended. it already has the advanced launcher. ugh.... too many .9.png's tonight
I love Cyanogen's roms. I just do not like his 5 home screens. I know I can just leave them blank, but knowing they are there bothers me.
is there anyway I can delete the extra home screens?
I tried using Akirah's, which works great I, but the usb to 3.5 mm headphone jack converter doesn't work with that rom. I need my music on the go!
From home screen tap menu>more>extended>homesreen....... This is were it gets a little buggy. The slide is reversed, If you put it to 7 you have 3 home screens, If you put it to 9 you have 1 home screen.

you can try that, but if it doesnt work its probably because cyanogen may not have bundled the advanced launcher in his rom because of its buggy-ness. if yo u really want it, some themers include the launcher or you can go to the development forum and grab it from the dev's thread. search "advanced launcher'
aHH, so if I get this advanced launcher on there I'm GTG?
Sounds like a plan.
Thanks guys!

My bad..... Just removed an experimental theme and all is well with advanced launcher. No reverse bug!
I have the same problem as OP, I dislike the amount of Home screens. However, I've tried Advanced Launcher and it seems to only slow down my system.
Does anyone know how to actually edit some file to manually change the amount of Home screens? Three is fine with me, I never had a problem with that number.
Is it possible to just switch betwwen sense ui and the nexus launcher???
eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2Amcaot1Us
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A
Install a ROM with Sense UI, push the Launcher2.apk from a nonSense build to /system/app. Install Home++, use its "home picker" app to switch
You can go into phone settings, applications and find launcher. Click it and then click "clear defaults" Now when you press the home key it will ask you which home you want. Until you actually pick a default you will be able to choose everytime. I do this sometimes. Yes even with sense ui.
Is there any way to completely remove the moto default launcher? I would like to install adw launcher and mark it as default but also want to remove all traces of the default launcher, or will that make the phone unstable?
I know with my old SGS i had to keep touchwiz on the phone and then run adw set as the default, I found when i ran out of memory it would end adw launcher and sometimes touchwiz would start and had to use homesmack to switch them back and this is what i'm trying to avoid.
The moto launcher is just very basic and i hate that you can remove the pages, her current phone has 4 pages of random widgets she added by mistake and cannot remove and just ends up confusing her which is why i want adw so i can lock the desktop so she does not modify it by mistake. This phone is going to a non tech person and so it needs to be simple and error free as possible.
Install ADW and the first time you hit your home button afterwards it will ask what launcher you want to use. Select ADW and tap the checkbox to make it default to ADW.
I believe its possible to delete the Moto launcher once rooted but I keep it as a backup so I wouldn't be without a launcher if I accidentally uninstalled ADW.
I want a way to replace the moto launcher in way that adw cannot be removed.
Use ADW ex not ADW. Or Go launcher
You could remove homescreen_balbla from system... but not sure why you would want to make ADW ex to be non-removable
because i want to make it the default and only launcher on the phone. As i said when my old SGS ran out of ram it would kill ADW and stop it from loading and sometimes defaulted back to touchwiz which is what i'm trying to avoid. I don't want it switch and its a waste of resources to have one launcher on top of another.
Maybe the best option is to use TB and freeze homescreen.apk?
There are a couple ROMs that have removed moto altogether and come with an alternative launcher, but again you will have to root to do that

Running out of ram doesn't happen on the d3 like you've experienced before.just install adw and set it as the default launcher.you'll never notice the stick launcher again.

I second the above post. Don't worry about deleting it entirely, make it default and it'll always show up. After it updates, you may hit home and have to remake it the default launcher, but that's not big deal.
yeah i noticed ram management is very good with this phone. I installed adw and was very happy with it but the person that owns the phone she does not like the home screen auto rotating when the phone is turned. She likes that it only rotates when you slide the keyboard out.
In adw if you disable landscape mode it does not rotate even when the keyboard is out when landscape mode is enable it will rotate based on the sensors regardless of keyboard and she hates that.
I'll make her try a few launchers and she can pick what she like best and not worry about remove motoblur.
Try ICS.

Delete Motoblur homescreen
First you have to go to manage application go to running services and then go to moto-blur and uninstall it if found it out from a friend

Yes if you aren't on a stock setup.

I recommend you to don't replace or remove the default launcher.
I did this after i bought my Milestone 3 and after a problem i had to restore to default. After this, the handset didn't start anymore and i had to send it to the Motorola.
This can occur if you uninstall the new launcher and you don't have the Moto Launcher as backup

Try Zeam Launcher. Free in the Google Play Store. It's lightweight, fast, has cool features like gestures to perform various tasks, and has an option to disable landscape on the home screen, except when the keyboard slides open.
Also, once rooted, you can rename the stock launcher with the added extension .bak so that it is disabled. You generally don't want to actually delete any blur/bloat apps because the stock system relies on some of them and you don't always know which ones till you try it out. There is a thread about bloat removal/renaming, so I'd be sure to look there before deleting/renaming anything. After renaming an .apk, you can move it to elsewhere on the phone using a file manager such as Root Browser. Download terminal app to change permission for the /system folder to read/write before trying to move anything, or it won't work. The command is:
First type: su (for super user access in terminal)
Then hit enter
Then type: mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Then hit enter
Now you can close window and move stuff in /system using a file browser.
Good luck.
I recommend using root explorer to delete stock and move adw .apk. Well worth the money.

I kinda gave up on this and stopped caring since it does not bother her to much. But saw someone had postefd on this thread, i tried zeam and all the other launchers last year with my sgs and ended up with adw.
I will try zeam and make it the default if what you say landscape mode can only be activated with the keyboard. This is the one think i like about stock and if zeam can do this plus have one page with a locked desktop then it be prefect for her.
The ROM I installed on my Eris has the GO Launcher EX as the default launcher, and while I've installed different ones, It seems that the GO launcher is stuck as the default.
Here's the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944430
Has anyone else had this issue? I've tried going into settings and uninstalling it, but it refuses to let me do so.
Use root explorer and manually go in and delete it. Its been a long time since I've used an Eris so I don't know the name of the directory it will be in.

In addition to the above, if you do have another launcher installed, you should be able to go into (from home) settings->applications->manage applications. Tap the "All" tab on the top, and find the entry for "GO Launcher EX". Tap it, then look for the button "clear defaults".
The next time that you hit the home button it should ask you for which launcher you want to use, with a check box control to set that one as the default.
