Looked everywhere need help with myfaves.apk & Cyan roms - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

some one help me get myfaves on new cm update

Myfaves for 1.6 is odexed. as far as i know most people really don't care enough to de-odex it and alter code to get it working on non-official builds. Especially now with tmobile's new plans. Most people (at least for me) can get an unlimited plan for the same or not much more making myfaves kinda pointless.

[Q] Exchange support in other ROMs

I apologize if this is the incorrect forum, but I felt it was a good place, as my question really is for the devs who cook up the ROMs. (Thank you for this forum btw!)
Currently it seems as though there is native Exchange support on only the Rogers and Hero roms. Hopefully I'm correct in this assumption.
My question is thus: I don't really care for the "slowness" of the current Hero ROMs, (though they are getting better) and I've struggled in finding a Rogers ROM that really "does it" for me.
Is there a way to include the native Exchange application into one of the other ROMs out there? (read: Cyan, Dude, JAC, etc)
Again, I apologize if this is a stupid question. I'm just trying to get Exchange working on my G1 so I can get rid of my work Blackberry and only carry around a single phone.
The problem with that is that the Exchange application included in the HTC versions of the ROMs are closed source and require the entire HTC framework they put around it. This makes it difficult for it to work without having to replace the entire rom framework for rom cookers.
So there is not an easy way to get the Exchange app into an already working rom without changing a lot of the inner workings of it to fit. Think of it like a square peg into a round hole.
Have you tried checking out one of the many exchange apps available in market?
I'd recommend the Cyanogenized Rogers RoM. Or if you want an app from the market, I recommend either Moxier Mail or Exchange by Touchdown. Both are amazing exchange applications. Around 25$ last time I checked.

Bored? New?

Any of you devs, G1 users ever get bored of the ROMS ran sometimes? I mean yeah I get excited when cyan posts a new rom, etc.. But wouldn't you want to see something NEW? Not hero.. not cupcake, anything? lol any devs thought about making there OWN rom?
I think devs have a handful working off of cupcake and hero roms already but making their own roms? That's basically what they're doing and I'm sure it would be a lot more work =P But maybe someone is brave enough!
I mean make there own ROM.
Like theres
Cupcake
Donut
Hero
Ophone (in dev.)
why not create there own?
Not "Modify/improve"
The problem is, though... any of these new "cool" apps that would set apart one ROM from another would simply get uploaded to the market. What really sets Hero apart from the others is that it is simply a bunch of extra apps pre-installed onto Android 1.5 with a few tweaks here and there to make it work. (The boot screen is the first thing that comes to mind with me. ) If it wasn't designed to be so hardware dependent (and even so, it's not all that hardware dependent other than the needy RAM requirements.), or was more modular (not requiring anything other than it's own code), they could technically have it downloadable via The Market. So really, the ROM development we're seeing is probably gonna be as about as cool as it gets. I'd like to see the devs joining forces and putting out ultra-lightweight, high-speed, highly usable, and feature rich app packages (e.g. the updated launcher minus the development bugs lol) that only those as smart as us would be able to install. That would be cool.
Well they all need a place to build off of and that's where cupcake comes in...You can't create a totally *new* ROM, well you can but the amount of work and time that takes is probably unimaginable.

no offense...but I don't think you understand what you're asking for.
the state of android as it is today is the result of millions of man hours from hundreds (if not thousands) of developers.
if someone created their "own" rom, it wouldn't be android any longer.
further, the linux kernel code is the result of decades of progress

Is it worth

Is it worth me taking a new dream from Tmobile UK and rooting it to get a Hero ROM so I can have the new UI ??
Are there any problems with the ROM ?? that would stop it being used day to day ? also is it worth trading googlemail push for Microsoft Active Sync for Exchange which I used before on my WM device. ??
Hero is a port from a device with higher specs so to run on a g1, there will be a noticeble inherit slowness. I believe you will still have gmail on a hero rom though. For day to day use I would use a cyanogen rom. If you do want to run hero, you will need to partion your sd card into 3 partions, hero also has problems missing text, no bluetooth and no led notiifacations
Thankyou
Sounds pretty much like its not worth it then shame cause i love the dream QWERTy keyboard trying to type emails with on screen keyboard is a nightmare.
are there any screen shots of this ROM you mentioned ? What is good about this ROM ?
I just got the Dream yesterday it was supposed to be a Hero but they sent the wrong phone and offered me line rental discount if i kept it.
I just not sure if I should send it back and get hero.

it depends on how much you want the physical keyboard. personally i wouldn't be able to give it up. the cyanogen rom he mention looks like a stock rom unless you theme. sorry don't know where i can get stock screen shot right now. you can probably google it though.
Go over the devolpment sub-forum and go into cyanogenmod thread, you can see screnshots there, go witht the stable version which is 4.04, basiclly the feel and look of a stock rom but optimize for performance, it is the top rom for speed and stabilty at the moment. You can also download the cm updater from the market to stay on top of updates and a easy way to flash for now on. But make sure you make a nandroid backup for a just in case cause every once in a while you can get a bad download. Highly suggest also flashing cyanogen's pimped out recovery 1.4
Thanks for the info I might just hold off for a while and see how I go with stock ROM although I suspect I need to do something cause i am struggling to find any widgets that I want to use on the phone as standard

im pretty sure you could find a g1/dream on ebay or somewhere fairly cheap so if you can i would get the hero and have the g1 i mean i am buying a practically brand new g1 from a friend that is rooted with the 1.33.2005 spl for $100 maybe i just got really lucky.
You got lucky, I just got mine from t-mobile for 150 with a new 2 year contract, so hopefully my g1 won't be extremely out of date and unsupported by then. At least by then there should be a new android phone with a snapdragon or tegra processor with 500mb ram and a pyshical keyboard which will blow away the g1 and even hero. Who knows by then we might have full graphic support with some cool ass games. Just hope we can get some better battery life by then

actually gridlock is pretty much wrong.
bluetooth doesnt work but i dont need it so i can live without it. LEDs dont fully work. it shines green whenever i get something new,but it doesnt blink.
missing text only exist is some hero roms... in JACs 1.6r2a , sms works fine. there is a slowness when compared to other cupcake builds, but hero runs pretty fast in my opinion. just cyanogens cupcake builds run faster.
i really like the sense ui and included widgets. multitouch is nice. and watching youtube in High quality over a 3g network is wonderful.
i love using the twitter widget. its soo useful. i only use twitter to follow devs, android news, tmonews, and new ROM news. so its easy to keep track of what the devs are doing and releasing
also i enjoy using my phone as a wifi access point, so i can use my laptop anywhere i go.
there is lag at times, but its not like SUPER SLOW. and you cant open the keyboard while at the homescreen. u just cant yet. but in apps u can.
isn't there hero free from tmobile uk with a contract? or was that only for a while back? i remember seeing it when it was released. i would definitely get the hero then just buy a g1 off ebay or something. then just alternate between the 2. also it would take a large discount for me to keep the g1.
don't get me wrong i love my g1 but it would be easier to buy a g1 that it would be to buy a hero, just my opinion.
Ok so how do you figure I am wrong, you just backed up what I said, ok so you get your led to shine but it is still not correctly working, you backed up what I said about it being slower, I was saying hardware wise, and you backed up saying that some hero roms miss texts. Can you run your hero without swap or compchace without having a significant difference, I don't think so. Yes hero roms are getting better but in all reality how was I pretty much wrong when you said the same thing in nicer terms. Just out of curiosity. I think it just comes down to a matter of opinion

"hero also has problems missing text, no bluetooth and no led notiifacations"
jacs hero 1.6r2a has no sms issues. the ones that have sms issues are the one thats older and outdated, or the new hero roms that hasnt been optimized.
LED notifications exist. just not as good as cupcake, but they are there.
its late and i dont feel like arguing with u. hero does have lag compared to cupcakes builds, but its not major
i say get the hero and than get a g1 i got one from craigslist practically new without contract for 130=D
Just been looking down the specs
The Dream and Hero are pratically the same apart from the memory and camera.
Not really to bothered by the camera anyways I got a 12mp camera if i want a photo. The video on the Hero is poor anyways. The only thing id be paying for is widgets at the expense of a full keyboard of the dream.
I suspect the increase in ROM and RAM is only to allow the Hero to run the Sense UI interface.
I think im going to stick with the dream.....

i would trade you a dream rooted with 1.33.2005 spl and like 150 or 200 dollars for the hero lol

Can We Get A MetroPcs Rom

Can We get a metro pcs rom that has mms working? im on cm6 and i cant recieve i would love to and so as others will like to have mms working on metro with a 2.1 or cm6 rom
once gingerbread gets camera working and is stable for daily use I'll probably end up putting one together unless someone else does.
plz cuz the mms would come in handy once in a while to get those late night pics but does ne one know another rom instead of damage control v1
Well it's not looking good for this roms fruition. I just found out virgin mobile is getting an optimus phone I'm going to go with that 25 dollars a month unlimited data plan. Glad they finally got a real android phone (samsungs don't count).

Any new ROMS

Any new ROMS in the works besides what we have on here on the Dev Forum? Ive tried them all i like them all just asking if we have more coming?
Lmao really? Do you even realize how lucky we are to have what we have already for this extremely outdated phone? No we probably wont have any new roms to try. Sorry.

Matt,
Are you ok? Is this the real MattCrystal? I was expecting something a little different from you considering how big of a no-no it is to ask about ETA's. I guess it's not an ETA question though, just a "is anyone going to get off of their lazy butts and create something new for free because I'm bored with all of the choices we do have". You must be taking an anger management class. Let me guess, you were finally able to flash WildHeroc.
I'm really amazed at what we do have considering this is a legacy device and most of the people creating these roms don't even have their heroes activated, they do it out of their love for the hero, technology, and the challenge. We are limited due to our arm6 processor and our low memory. But we have everything but MIUI.
Im very excited and pleased that we have any ROMS for our Hero i was just wondering if anything else is cooking. Im sure there is trust me

Yup its still me and your thoughts were correct. I didn't jump at him because its not eta related. I completely could've though since its a step sister to eta comments but I haven't seen his name here before and noobs need a little break.... (don't tell anyone) but he didnt demand anything so I gave just a little sarcasm in my post.
No WildHeroc is still a no go. The new boot.img flash created wont even install. I have some ideas though but not enough time to type it all out, or have time to try. Kids just started school and busy work life. Plus I don't want noobs to try what I do out of curiosity and mess up their hero. I'm too experienced with mine. Trust me when I move to the 3d forums the good ole times will be back again. Nothing will be like this forum though.
Some of these ROMS are probably only good for wifi google voice voip. Thats all i can do since im in a rural area and have no service but all of Wild Hero updated roms have worked for me no problem. Except the 2.2 su binary update all the time.

What do you mean only good for WiFi, Google Voice, and VoIP?
What i meant by that is all the ROMS ive used seem to work fine including yours. I dont have service since im in a rural area. It just seems those with service sometimes the part of the different roms dont work. I wouldnt know since i dont have service. I have everything including incoming outgoing calls but only thru wifi

But the way you said it "made it seem all these roms are good for"..... see what I mean? Dastin ported the excellent iHero from tazz and its fantastic. Him and jaybob are true heros here keeping up the development. Huge breakthrough was fine tuning the .35 kernel. Been waiting months for an update to it since s0bes departure.
I know. These roms are grt i even got close to flashing a Droid rom that hasnt even been done yet and it starting to upload but it aborted half way in between. I dont think you can really brick these phones that easy. But i am careful i just like to try different things, I appreciate what every dev is doing for us. Im just looking for something different. Plus im new at flashing since June this yr. But its like clockwork now its easy
Easy to brick too man. Especially if your this flash hungry. Just be careful
